That actually happened to me. I bricked hard and I only placed a Magical Cylinder because it was the only card I placed. 10 minutes of special summons, fusions and xyz summons and I get faced with a card that dealt over 8000 damage. All it took was the Magic Cylinder and I won.

I feel like Tag Duels don't really work in this format. It would just be even more waiting, there's a good chance by the time the turn gets to you the game is more or less decided and combo pieces are so specific, that you can't really play off someone else's board unless you deckbuild together.
I lost it and giggled so hard just like you did after the Compulsory. The look of that person's face after doing all that and dying to a old school deck would of been priceless. Old school for the win! Lost interest in YGO around that time, and felt nostalgia that I could identify and know exactly what each of your cards did. All the modern stuff, I just can't keep track of and kept me away from even bothering a revisit. If they do ever release a old era theme format for nostalgia sake, even I may be tempted to try it out again.

Imagine bringing out your boss monster after going through 6-10 other monsters, only for it to get sent back to the extra deck and you can't do anything about it and they summon a monster for 2000 attack and rinse and repeat the entire duel. That's basically this video and its so funny, I love it
It does bring a smile to my face seeing a oldschool deck beating modern decks. its that extra bit of salt in the wound when they realize that the lost to a old non meta deck that makes it feel enjoyable. (It reminds me of that one guy who destroys meta decks with a toxic kuriboh deck and I love that video)
Older formats would be incredible. Like we just need 1 for like GX or 5D era and so many more people would want to play. I know none of my friends want to play now because of the 5 minute combo turns and coinflips basically deciding a lot of duels. Just cut the power creep a bit and Konami would make a lot of money
I still think it would be so cool if master duel added something to where you can test out decks that you've built even if you dont the all cards made just tp see if you liked the deck you've made ot something, kinda like how dragon ball legends lets you test play the banner units of characters

@@Honest_Mids_Masher Jaden's deck is 2nd best despite how bad it is. And it doesn't even have multiple poly's & searchers like King of the Swamp. Yusei's is just awful. Only one time have I seen anyone get multiple synchro's going. It was just sad. Meanwhile, the XYZ deck is awful too, but because it has some bigger body's & all the ZW equip stuff it actually is the best given the godawful decks it's going against.
I've been playing master duel from the beginning and honestly there's only 4 things I would love in the game, a draft mode, Tag duels, minimum 10 gems for a lose and 20 for a win to keep people motivated and a search feature when deck building that has cards categories like draw cards.
You know how Yugioh has stars for each monsters? Make a troll mode to where, Yugioh plays like Hearthstone or Shadowverse, where you gain 1 mana per turn and monster's mana cost = their star level. Also artificially give mana cost to spells, traps and hand trap effects.
compulsory evacuation device was my favorite card back then, and i ran 3 in my deck. You spend all that time summoning that special monster, and i just bounced it back. The faces they make back then was priceless. lol
My favorite retro format is 2014 nawcq with dragon rulers. It's a great sweet spot that combo and control players can both enjoy and all combo, midrange and control are playable

One idea I think could be cool would be to try something like this with seereax. Where one of you plays a deck with older cards only but can play 3 copies of any card (pot of greed, graceful charity, etc). And the other uses a modern deck and follow the banlist in master duel. Maybe you would have to impose other restrictions on the modern deck though.
I agree with the different formats or eras things. It would be amazing indeed. I loved it when you had to carefully pick each card to build a unique over all strat.... Nowadays you just go with the meta and some tweaks.
The question of whether old decks can win against today's meta kinda depends on if we're using the banlist from back then. I mean, there have been so many FTKs througout the history of Yu-Gi-Oh! You just need one that doesn't immediately die to Ash or Imperm.
Yes you definitely should count the first win, that was dinosaurs, a really long combo deck and without the two spaces in the board it was imposoble for him to complete the combo and end with a complete board
Lol its not boring if you enjoy classic style. It makes it sometimes rewarding to wait for the perfect cancels or negates instead of just having a field of all negates. When i said new ideas or strats i meant a way to use old cards to try to compete against the new, i have a deck where i know when i always draw im good and another where nothing from newer generations and feel like having to get the perfect draw in that moment and if i dont well its tough.
They should have certain online modes with requirements like no links, pendulums ect. so we can just have a good nostalgic battle lol. Links are cool and I'm down to win or lose in some turns but I like the long sweaty battles man.
Took me a few weeks to get all the cards but this is my new deck to main in the game unironically. It actually wins about half the time, partly because of how many people scoop when I play Ground Collapse.

BLS is still the coolest boss monster, and Primal Seed is still the craziest legal spell, imo. So many silly combos. When Union Carrier was legal, that Primal Seed loop was disgustingly consistent to get rolling on MD. Still pretty easy in Blue-Eyes Chaos, with all the draws, searches, and summons, it's just a little more work now than simply having any two monsters on the field. It's a great way to play solitaire, just not so great for an interesting back-and-forth match, usually
It's funny, there's actually modern analogies to a bunch of old school strategies by this point. A lot of the old school traps to make a Control heavy build work do really well in Labrynth, Thunder Dragon has its own full blown archetype to mess around with classic and modern Chaos staples in, and Warrior Toolbox is now this strange amalgamation of modern archetypes(with Gouki, Infernoble and Sky Striker having the most consistent starters to work with) that's just waiting for RotA to go back to 2 or higher to pop off(or you could be a memer and try to make War Rock work but good luck with that).
Makes sense for Neos to be a plain monster on its own since its strength comes from Contact Fusing with other Neo Spacians. It's interesting how each one can dramatically change his looks. Mediocre on its own, stronger with others.
I feel like a great idea would be to use like a list from a structure deck and win with it in ranked. For example, using the Shadoll Structure Deck List from real life and putting it into master duel form.
I recreated old chaos. I use reasoning/monster gate to dig through the deck evenly for board wipes and hand traps to replace old staples. Faith Dmoc basically abuse monster reborn reincarnation to get parshath and chaos duo out. Spirit repaer + there can only be one are a monster soft lock. If i wipe out the field i start ripping cards from yand with reaper. I also tech exchange to take out theyr wipeout and steal hand traps.
This is so trippy because in my casual ass mind I always understood metas being as they are a natural thing in everything competitive but my instincts always rebelled on some but why cant I use old cards to be a boss!? Yes imma lose alot but damnit theirs probably some fire card combos from goat format to go against metas in today's time. I absolutely appreciate this vid, even though it doesn't win alot it's still dope to see haha
I’m sort of the opposite, I do enjoy some of the meta decks like branded, though I had already been playing that deck on master Duel even before branded fusion dropped. But time thieves will always be my precious baby

I used to love playing with really unique and hard to execute decks like perfect giant moth deck 😂 using nightmare wheel, spell binding circle, swords of binding light, Robbin zombie/goblin combo with man eater bugs and skull mark ladybug etc to tie them up and grind them down while you set up for 10 turns 😂😂

I think the key to different formats again is pre errata cards, the pain and agony of Chaos Emperor Dragon into Yata, I lived through it, it was my Nam.
I had a lot of fun with cipher soldier, dna Operation and gravity bind in casual. Once played about 2h and over 45 turns against a full power zombie deck. He just couldn't out gravity bind very good and had to wait many turns to destroy a single one. It was hilarious and I felt very bad for my enemy. 😂
I unironically play Necrofear with denstiny board in ranked, surprisingly doesnt do horrible, had to add judgment of anubis because of the lightning storms and harpies on my back row
Im old school still dont know much beyond the new maiden blue eyes deck but to see you get pushed back like yugi and believe in your cards and get the dub was fire! Staged or not like yugioh it was like yugi vs seto. Fav cards vs best cards.
Duel Link allows you to play in the different era but problem with Duel Link is the game set up. Mean unlike your traditional five card zone and 40 card deck limit. Duel Links has a 20-40 card deck limit and a three card zone. The only two good thing about Duel Link is that gems are easier to get and you get to play as the characters with there skills.
It doesnt matter in goat, but in modern format I would block different zones for ground collapse. Probably the two under the extra monster zones? It ATLEAST blocks out transcode if nothing else.
I just realized, with the effect of Thunder Dragon, wouldn't it be better to activate it two times with different cards to get two of them in the GY and only one in the hand? since you have more cards that interact with the GY instead of the hand
Masterduel can become an incredible game if they would include area deck restrictions. A none ranked game mode with the cards and banlist limitations of the specific area that include only the available cards of that area.

Duel Link allows you to play in the different era but problem with Duel Link is the game set up. Mean unlike your traditional five card zone and 40 card deck limit. Duel Links has a 20-40 card deck limit and a three card zone. The only two good thing about Duel Link is that gems are easier to get and you get to play as the characters with there skills.
It doesnt matter in goat, but in modern format I would block different zones for ground collapse. Probably the two under the extra monster zones? It ATLEAST blocks out transcode if nothing else.

I just realized, with the effect of Thunder Dragon, wouldn't it be better to activate it two times with different cards to get two of them in the GY and only one in the hand? since you have more cards that interact with the GY instead of the hand

A none ranked game mode with the cards and banlist limitations of the specific area that include only the available cards of that area.
They have this. They do monthly events with exclusive rules and most of them have been pretty fun.

NGL 1 deck that comes to mind that old decks that can win in today's era is most likely hero's
I've been using pretty much nothing but theme decks since I've started MD and I've been doing great against meta decks lol
