What's the joke
The best thing for me was to watch a game with Zidane. I just admired the way he played and how he thought about the game. Even though im from Sweden i followed the French team as often as i could aswell as his clubteams. A wonderful player.

Probably the only player more clutch than CR7. At the big moment he was there.
As a Brazil fan seeing him demolish Brazil twice right infront of my eyes (98 and 06) was heartbreaking. Those were stacked out squads as well that could have easily won the WC.

Lillian Thuram has to be the most underrated French Legend ever. Every young defender should watch that man play. From a right back to a lockdown centerback. He was GREAT at both Positions.
Thuram was nothing short of legendary. His goal against Croatia in the 1998 semifinals speaks volumes.

Every elite footballer were world class when they retired. But Henry is the best French player. Zidane played with a lot of elite players.

Zidane at 34 was ripping it up in the World Cup final. Titi (as infinitely incredible as he is) was playing for NY Red Bulls
Henry played at the highest level at 19. Zizou was already in his 20s. I would imagine it helped to be older still at the top. Also one is a striker with pace as big quality, the other one was middlefield in a time where it was not really an obligation to defend as we ask 11 players to do nowadays. I would also mention that time Henry actually came back on lawn to Arsenal and still put goals against English teams.

The 2006 Brazil team was a total mess. If Parreira had played the team that won the 2005 Confed Cup, the game would have probably looked different. But he reinstalled all the old guys, the 2006 team had way too many artists, some of them not in good shape at all (R9 was already obese then), and way too few workers. The Zizou game is a bit overrated these days I feel.

i ll never forget Raul saying that when they were playing a match and things felt rough and difficult during the "Galacticos" era, they would simply give the ball to Zidane and he'd know what to do to make things easier. That right there is why i think he is the best player in history. He was not only the best among the best players in the world, he was also a leader, the way that neither Messi nor CR7 were.
Proper greats will never name themselves, but rather the people that inspired them to be great, or even peers that they admired when they were also at the height of their career.
