    As an abused child who was led to believe it was my fault....I always believed that God couldn't possibly love me in spite of a religious fervour in the Catholic Church. I Always felt that even though I was going through the motions, God would see me as a fake. Thomas Merton has changed all of this for me, profoundly. I am trying so hard to cultivate the immense love Merton had for God. Having always believed that I was unliveable it is so difficult for me but I listen to these talks over and over. I've read many of his books as well. All I have to do is be myself! Stop trying so hard.This is so life changing for me. Merton is now my mentor and I'm so incredibly grateful.

    What comes across to me as a common thread in Thomas Merton's writings and prayers is his extraordinary deep, profound thirst for God. Its by the grace of God moving through him. Very inspiring!

    Wow he speaks to me when I feel all he says .. it resigns and has come to me at a time of self doubt following my path . My family have stunned me and I have had to choose to walk away . However hard that has been for me I believe it is for the greater good in sone crazy way … Thomas Merton has answered how I feel . Please lord guide me into your divine love and light always . Let me be the lighthouse for all weathers I face . My intention is to follow you always and if I faulted please help me go on …
    Your blessed child Maria xxx

    Unconditional love covers everything.it becomes easy once you are filled with compassion and understanding as people do have different perceptions and behaviour and in some they would not be able to see and rectify as wisdom is lacking.

    When All is Said and Done - then what? What if (and I think it is) it's nothing. Is that such a bad thing? It makes now much more important. How many ways we can waste this. Let me count the ways. What fools we mortals be.

    Why should 'hate' be an advice for us?
    'Hate' really screams to me: 'I do not understand'..
    ..inwardly..
    not my 'understanding' of what you have learned to be..or suppose to be..
    but my attention with what I see you, as what you are..
    thanks for reading it, thanks for the moment :-)

      @theophilus41 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If there is hate for someone or something perceived in the outer world, find that hate within you and let is dissolve within. The message is, "as within, so without". It is not a directive to hate.

    Why aren't you saying the whole Merton prayer ? "i hope that i will never do anything apart from that desier .And I know that if i do this You will lead me by the right road though i may know nothing about it . Therefore will i trust YOU always though i may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death .I will not fear for you are ever with me, and will never leav me to face my perils alone.

      @@kkay3784 A character named Owen in the movie paraphrased Merton from his writing, 'New Seeds of Contemplation' while discussing the death of another character's mother, “Once we get past consciousness, and identity, and all the things that occupy the front of our brains, you reach a transcendence, an infinitely abundant source".

    In the OT the Jewish people only considered the person living next door to them to be their neighbor and of course at that time the people living next to them were other Jews. This was another reason why Jesus introduced his "Good Samaritan Parable" when he did. If on your browser you look up Thomas Merton on the Good Samaritan, he has written a lovely heartfelt essay on this. (John 20:19)

    Perhaps I misunderstanding, but I don’t think so concerned to see him use the word hate in an active way with regards to not hating people, but hating the appetite and disorders in our own self, that word hate is really strong and it’s a confusing message for one looking to expand out of the energy of hate
