Congratulations on a successful, safe tow of such a glorious ship. No doubt even with all your experience and planning, it was still quite nerve wracking.
The Iowas was berthed here in Rhode Island in the late 90's and every time I went over the Pell Bridge I would see her next to the Saratoga and Forrestal just wasting away with Seagull droppings covering her.I'm so glad the Iowa has been saved looking pristine. Those who served aboard her must be proud, hats off to those who restored her, transported her and those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in 1989..!
Since the ship obviously has no steam, how were they able to crank up the anchor chain?Does the anchor windless have an electrical backup?I'm assuming most anchors of that size are powered by steam.
The windlass was powered by an auxillary generator brought aboard for the trip down. We tested it a few days before we left to make sure everything was going to work properly.

Thank YOU all..
You'd think there would be a military escort . It a sitting duck at this time.
Sure. For target practice...
