This song was my very first introduction to the world of Midlake - in 2006 when I first heard this played regularly in French radio station France Inter, and I didn't know who it was, thinking it was Radiohead! And of course after that I bought their first couple of albums and the Van Occupanther masterpiece which I still think is their peak as sadly I wasn't that big a fan of the later albums. The Radiohead/Grandaddy influences are writ large on their first EP (Milkmaid Grand Army) and their first full LP (Bamnan and Slivercork) - both of them are amazing recordings and have a such a truly unique sound and charm of their own.
Such a gorgeous piece of music. I'm going to big up the bass line ... and highlight the emotional power of Maj7 chords. Oh and the Manzarekian keyboard solo was pretty neat.
Tim is going to be missed as he was very distinctive. I actually didn't like the last Tim album (Courage Of Others) much as I found it too forgettable (no really memorable songs) after the masterpiece that was Trials Of V.O...... it was a hard act to follow I guess, which may or may not explain why he decided to quit. Mind you the first two Midlake records - Milkmaid Grand Army EP from 2001 and Bamnan And Slivercork from 2004 are brilliant too.
From this great album "The Trials Of Van Occupanther", a masterpiece on his own !!!
My absolute favorite song since I discovered it some years ago. One of those bands that sound even better live!
The original singer has left in 2012, bu the band still make some good music!

I'm happy for you (5 years later), but this song makes me sad AF.
I think I have watched every Midlake video on TH-cam.

I just wish Tim would release some of that harp already
I would love to see them play, I love Midlake!
It's good to hear music every now and then.

I hope these guys do some more gigs sometime when gigs happen again
I’m seeing them in November! Ft. Worth & Austin TX!
Great band, great album
Brilliant
😊
My Honeymoon song xxx
Great band
Ripper drum beat.
Yeah that drum pattern in the verses is kind of tough to play with the floor tom and high hat instead of just the bass drum and hi hat
I'm surprised I like the live rendition as much as I do.
Fuck. Things done changed. God damn it.
My favorite from Panther Album
I didn’t expect all the synth action
I love this music, their best but this introduction was over the top
We want Tim!
It's just not the same! I want to cry for a whole new reason hearing it this way.
I'm loving it this way

It's not the same without Tim. Tim, we miss you!
This version sounds like Grizzly Bear
