I'd worry you'd come over and give me a holler-in at my place but I just have to keep a look out for a Penske truck (or similar) transporting your vaunted Aston Martin due to heating issues traversing Texas. No but seriously this was all sarcasm dude, meant it all in jest. I just didn't want to put something cancerous like FIRST or whatever.

    Dude, componentry is absolutely a word :D
    "componentry

    the parts of a machine or vehicle considered collectively.
    "while the styling is retro, the componentry is from the 21st century" "

    Hey, just an FYI, AC pump clutch wouldn't engage if the refrigerant is low (so that it won't burn the AC pump). It's a built in safety mechanism.

  • @vmmubvi730
    @vmmubvi730 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Maybe useless, but may give you insight. Try placing an Ohmmeter from the fuse terminal to ground to see the resistance, you may be able to see if the new coil system had any effect on the change of resistance. Check the resistance on both sides of the fuse and record the data, as you do not know which side is connected to the A/C system.

    • @vmmubvi730
      @vmmubvi730 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Here is a schematic of a DB9 AC system for reference: en.aston-martin-club.com/graphics/msgboard/223/full/314_ac-wiring.jpg

    • @vmmubvi730
      @vmmubvi730 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am going to assume the resistance should normally be 12v/10A= ~1.2ohms or greater for normal conditions. And you may be read .6ohms or less, causing the fuse to open. Maybe better yet, check the resistance on the old and new AC compressor coil to the see the difference. Hope this info helps, I love your channel!

    The refrigerant lubricates the compressor. Most cars have a safety switch that will keep not allow the compressor to kick on if you are too low in refrigerant. Also, the safety switch itself can also go bad.

      If your AC clutch fuse blew it will blow again and again. The reason is because the coil inside your compressor clutch is overheating and shorting causing the fuse to blow. Replace the clutch, coil and pulley and the compressor will be fine.. ASK ME HOW I KNOW THIS> LMAO.

      D Johnson now that I think about it this is probably correct. I work on refrigeration equipment and dirty coils cause more power draw. I had a brain fart car compressors don't draw power from electricity. I wonder if a dirty coil could have cause the compressor to over heat the solenoid coil though. I would at least look at it.

    if it is burning the fuse constantly, is not necessarily that the clutch that is bad... the electric wire of the clutch could be shorted out somewhere. Remove the ac fuse, and disconnect the clutch. The take a multi-meter and use it in continuity mode, placing one of the leads in the connector in the fuse that belongs to the wire that goes to the clutch (you can know which one of the fuse terminal is the one by testing with a test lead. if the bulb doesn't go on, that's your terminal), and placing the other lead on a metal non-painted part of the engine. If there is continuity the wire that goes to the clutch is shorted. Most of the times is just the insulation of the cable that breaks.

    • @tavarish
      @tavarish  7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The wiring seems to be fine, as it's only doing it after a while, but I can certainly test it tomorrow. Thanks!

  • @moneymac2864

    Yo listen to this Tavarish, this was the case in my brothers 99 Honda civic but instead of checking the fuse box first, we swapped out the A.C compressor from a wreck yard still no luck. Then we checked the fuse box to find a blown fuse. Changed out the fuse and it kept blowing several fuses till a friend looked at the car and found the source of the problem:......a stuck fan behind the A.C condensor. Once the fan was pulled out bam!!! A working ice- cold A.C. Hope this help you out incase if you're running into the same situation as ours.

    the clutch is prolly going out and drawing too much current when its too hot. Also change the relay or try swapping the relay and see if it still happens. Putting a 15A fuse will possibly cause a fire!!! Check power and ground going to the clutch. There is whats called a voltage drop test. check for 12v at power and less than 0.1V at ground when under load. Could even be a corroded wire or connector

  • @Dougie085

    No, you don't put in a larger fuse than what the system is rated for. The wire gauge of that circuit often are not designed to handle a current higher than the fuse on the line. So if you put in a larger fuse you run the risk of actually causing wiring damage.
    Fuses, as you've found, don't often just blow on their own sadly.
    Even more advanced A/C work can be done DIY if you're smart and have access to things like a manifold gauge set and sometimes a vacuum pump. Also if you lack the tools to recover the refrigerant take it somewhere to get that part done before you work on it if you need to open the system (like replacing an evaporator, compressor, etc).

    if it wouldn't of been the fuse you check the low pressure switch, you short out the plug on the connector to see if the ac clutch kicks in. then it means low pressure. so it had leaked out a little. i then check and see how much pressure is in the system. if it's a little low then i normally add a can of stop leak. If it has no pressure then there is a major leak.

    Me with new cars: "Yeah that's an engine." Truthfully, I had trouble finding the wiper fluid reservoir in a newer vehicle i'm borrowing from a family member until my seats are done. I doubt I could do this, but good on you for DIYing it. It's cheaper and more fun.

    Pls check if there is an open circuit in the wiring system, any open circuit touching a metal part would lead to fuse getting blown again and again. I had a similar issue with my head light fuse getting blown.

    I think componentry is a word, I may be wrong though, but I do know I've heard it used before.

    Tavarish: I have a 2002 ES300. passenger side a/c blows cold air, but the driver side blows medium to hot air. I've changed the blend door actuator twice, but the problem still persists. I also changed the fuse and relay. What could be the problem.?

    Thanks for doing the update. I was caught one time with a luxury car and no money 😆 so I kept a shit load of fuses. I learned very quick! But thanks for explaining after the fuse popped again! Love your videos as always and your fix it yourself instead of running to the dealer attitude is the best. Because even if you have money why give it to the dealer? Keep up the good work bro!!!

    Perfect example of what NOT to do on any vehicle. When a fuse is blown it is because you have an electrical issue, not because it is hot outside and the system overload. Any good mechanic/technician knows that. When a fuse is blown is because you have a higher amp on the system cause by a faulty electrical part and that cause to blown the fuse to protect the integrity of the wire harness and prevent a electrical fire. Second you can have a broken cable shorting to ground that can cause the fuse to blown. You just don't replace parts to see if that is the one that is bad and crossing your finger to see if you nail it or not. You need to do a proper diagnostic and see what its really wrong.
    Because you own a lift on your garage and a bunch of cheap tools doesn't make it a real mechanic or technician. People learn from this example and just don't replace a fuse and call it fixed or much left replace it with a bigger amp fuse to prevent the constant blown, that will just cause the electrical fire in your vehicle. If you want to watch a proper diagnostic from a real professional check South Main Auto or Pine Hollow auto diagnostic. Eric and Ivan are professionals on that.
