i can recommend changing the projectile of the Meteor Staff in particular - it uses multiple ids too, so you can end up firing a few different projectiles with it, but falling from the sky which is fun! i liked putting in the falling silver coins block projectile because it makes it rain silver, gold, and platinum coins
I think I may have an explaination for what happens with the finch staff. The finch staff probably checks for "IF finch doesn't exist THEN place finch on players head". With the finch staff never spawning the finch with this projectile mod, it creates an infinite loop of trying to create a finch, but creating something different instead. Edit: This might happen because, (I got this from the wiki) "Unlike other summoning weapons, a Baby Finch is summoned when the player spawns without needing to use the staff if it is in the inventory.". Also, as another person pointed out in the replies, it also might be because projectiles despawn if they are too far away from the player. (A simple recreation of this ingame is equipping a pet and then travelling very fast, in a minecart for example. The pet will chase you but eventually despawn and respawn at the player)
The interaction with Purification Powder actually reminds me of how Vile Powder used to work in the earlier versions of Terraria - instead of spreading corruption, it would act as a throwable weapon with the powder cloud multi-hitting enemies as shown in the video; it was actually fairly effective against the Eater of Worlds and the Goblin Invasion as well

this is probably bc the minions is in the body of the dragon and not the head or tail, bc when you summon multiple it ads another body segment and only ever has one head or tail. so it would make sense its not a minion but just a projectile

Spent a good chunk of time toying with it, and found a lot of cool combinations. Anything with spread/multi-shot tends to make quite the spectacle!

What would happen if you use the Stardust Dragon rod to summon the largest possible projectile id? I'm guessing a game crash from trying to access an invalid id but it'd be interesting to test out.
It wouldn't do anything This can be seen with transmutation If you have the item as an id that doesn't have an item assigned the door will just become nothing The door is still there but it's not going to give any item when you break it and there won't be an icon
An idea I had is using the chain gun with projectile 305, which is the healing beams that the vampire knives shoot when you hit an enemy. So, it just heals you. And due to the fast speed of the chain gun, it would heal you incredibly quickly
Would the sanguine bat staff work the same as the finch staff? I believe they do the same thing of sitting above the player but the sanguine bat staff has a good bit higher damage.
1:52 Piercing isn't glitchy Projectiles loses their damage when comes through some amount of enemies. In this case 1 damage goes to 0 so projectile pierces through enemies but does not damage them
The Twins' summon shooting different projectiles would be so funny! imagine a full summon build with like 15 twin summons all shooting arrows or... terrablade projectiles haahha
There should be a mod that randomizes all projectiles for weapons and monsters. Of course making the projectiles the player fires good and the monster projectiles bad.

Not quite the same, but something like that happened to me back in 1.2 mobile, when my pistol, which I had a hard time acquiring, just randomly stopped firing projectiles and it's tooltip said "40% fishing power"
I have done this a lot with other mod (item modifier wich is only 1.3 sadly) and my favorite thing to do is make my own weapons, idk it is just way too much fun making weapons ur self and seeing if it ia good or not and so on.
Does this kind of content would hurt the game in vanilla if they allowed us at endgame or smth? Would be very cool to customize our weapons in damage, projectile and appearance. Would be very useful especially for adventure maps

If you use a projectile id of -1 on any weapon, it'll make your hotbar, health & mana and basically everything invisible whenever you hold it.

Pew Matic shoots only one certain projectile iirc, so it doesn’t work the same way as Stardust.
