It would be nice if EA Sports would sell it as a stand alone release, I would pay $20-30 for it.
Roster updates would be nice as well on the stand alone release. Online play would also be nice but I don’t think it would be necessary.

Update: They do sell it in the PlayStation and Xbox store for $10.
That'd be great. It'll be nice to own and show your kids what games were like back then when we used to play them.
@@jwbogacki there are ways to add NHL 94 to a SNES and or Genesis Classic.
Also they sell systems that play SNES along with Genesis games. An NHL 94 cart is fairly easy to find as well.
I want (1) Online play, (2) Fighting, (3) Difficulty setting, (4) New & Old teams with (5) All-Star rosters...
...Of course, that would probably mean that Gretzky (for example) would play for more than one team.
But heh... I wouldn't mind that... But I would definitely love to play with some Hall of Famers like Bobby Orr, Mario Lemieux, Jaromir Jagr, etc...
...while at the same time, playing with some young kids that will be future Hall of Famers.

Funny how they advertise NOT having features. "We went with the authentic feel of NO online multiplayer.". They did add an "exit' button. Its going to be awesome looking at a ROM HACK. They never intended for this to be anything but a gimmick to trick older players to pay $70 for NHL21.

@@primetime429 From what I saw, you can now by the game if you have NHL 21 or buy it as a bundle.
This is really cool they are bringing back and updating this classic for console players, but not only have people already been updating this game for years, you can actually play it online. Fans not only keep the roaster updated, they've fixed some of the more prevalent bugs in the OG release as well as allow optional enhancements like extra fatigue to players to encourage more line changes during a match. You can even change the rink color, stadium or whatever.
There is also a program that online players can use to easily hack their own rom and create their own players. This release is really just a gimmick, used to sold their main trash. Fuck EA, they have 0 passion for sports fan at all.

EA Sports should just sell a NHL 94 version every year with the current teams and rosters.
People already create versions of NFL 2K5, Tecmo Super Bowl and NBA Jam with updated teams and rosters. Why not make money off an “official version.”
How will they know if you preordered nhl21 before launch date if you bought physical copy? It seems like NHL rewind should be accessible to anyone that has NHL 21 currently

Ya nhlpa 93 was awesome but best on Sega the snes framerate was gittery and bad compared to sega version no idea why they dropped fighting and blood for nhl 94 I mean they should add in fighting and blood in nhl 94 rewind.
@@GOOFYxNEWFIE NHL stripped the license after the first game they didn't want blood or fighting in it but the game had already begun printing so they couldn't change it. thats why the 93 version was called NHLPA 93. it just had the players but no team logos. they got the license back in 94. thats why it doesn't have fights or blood

Ahh the reason I became a Red Wings fan. I chose them in the game because they wore red, like Manchester United!! I used to also really like the "Highlights from other games" that they had in those early games as well.

Did they fix the bug with the player weights? NHL 94 had a bug where the heavier players were easier to knock down compared to the lighter players because there was a bug in the game where the players weightings had an opposite effect, which is why Pavel Bure was indestructible while Eric Lindros would get knocked over from the slightest check.

I feel like the game will have only 94’s features- that means no create a player, no franchise or season mode, no roster moves, and no way to change audio settings.

EA not realasing this game standalone because it would sold much more than its actual new game, nhl 21, which would be very embarassing for them. Also, you cannot release a sport multiplayer game without online features in 2020, that would make no fkn sense.

If there was an online game i could acually love to play and have great fun id buy the console in an instant. I really liked this game back in the days and i would be over the moon for the chance to compete against others online. EA, here is some advice. You belive you woould make some decent money on a stand alone version and online play. How about it? Make som old school gamers happy?

No, unfortunately.
They really need it to be a stand-alone game and be capable of online. Putting it behind a Pre-order is limiting to those who couldn't afford it at the time and we are in COVID, we can't go to people's houses and play like the old days.

Ill put this another way. Its been more and more difficult to justify having a shelf of every year of NHL series. I literally have bought every one. The preorder was very poorly advertised IMO. As a fan of the 94 and 95 games I would have done so instantly, but now because I was unaware I wont get the option to spend more money on EA products? Makes no sense to me. There haven't been enough differences in each of the games of late to justify 79.99 each year. This just may be the reason to walk away from doing so in the future.
They could of made it online. Xband was around in 94 so I'm willing to bet some people at some point did play this game online at the time.

No online? Amazing! I am going to buy this. I hate online games and I especially hate online sports games, which is why the only sports game on my PS4 Platinum list is Madden 11. £7.99 is a bargain too, I loved NHL hockey on the Mega Drive.

NHL genesis era - when going down screen was the best option. Now it's almost unplayable with the skill stick.

No. The previous game did not have the NHL license because of fighting and blood. In order to get the NHL license back for 94, they had to remove those two things. Fighting was not put back in until 96.
Why would you not allow online play? or trades, create player feature, even a season??? wtf!? that is like every retro players dream with this GAME ea sports? No brain'er
NHL 94 did not have those features so it would be sacrilege to have them in. For some reason, exhibition mode was named regular season in the game.
Fuckin right? Even to scratch a franchise. Id love player moves and create a player in NHL 94.
I'll pull out the genesis to play it, half the time I go to 95 simply to create a roster of players and run a season mode
@@dustman820 it wouldn't be sacrilege... it would be a nice addition to expand the game. I'd love to have a traditional season mode or custom roster in the old game. It just wasn't a thing yet, wouldn't be hard for them to add to a 16-bit rom
I was glad they did this but unhappy overall. There was no campaign mode, which would have been soooo easy to add, the only thing you could do is playoffs. There was also no fighting, which I thought I remembered in the old game, but I was really young when it came out so I could be wrong.
That said, I really appreciate them doing this, as EA is one of the worst and most shameless companies of all time, this was a kind gesture. I think it was in 2015 or 2016 that they changed to their new engines in all their sports games and they have just gotten worse and worse every year. I think the best part of their new titles is reading the user reviews, some are very creative in voicing the fact that the company has taken everything down to hell in a hand basket. At least I get comfort in knowing that everyone pretty much feels the same. Glad I kept my Xbox 360 in good shape, so I can play NHL and Fifa 2015, which I believe I will be playing until either there is a massive shake up within EA and they start producing quality content again or by some miracle the company gets purchased or goes under. Because there is no way on earth they will ever give up their exclusive rights, which is really the only thing that matters to them. I got schooled on this recently, and I could go into it all, but considering this is already an off topic comment rant, I'll just stop here by saying we are all screwed for the foreseeable future.
Still I'm glad they did this, as it's a better game than anything they have put out in nearly a decade, which is insane.
Terrible business practices... The game should be free if you buy an version of NHL 21 at ANY TIME. The people who will want to play it will be people who bought (parents bought) a copy and loved it back in the 90's.Not having online multiplayer is also a terrible decision.

Not having online play's excuse is just that. An excuse. Then they say it could be added down the line to deliver false hope to further try and sell the game. And by selling that game we mean having to buy the microtransaction mess that is NHL 21. We need more non licensed hockey games again. Like a Mutant League Hockey.

If you have a Xbox One, the digital store has NHL 21: Rewind bundle on sale for $25.99 which includes NHL 94 Rewind for 4 more days as I type this.
They need to make a retro be a pro for this seeing as they screwed up nhl 21's be a pro so badly which is why i went back to nhl 20's be a pro because at least on that game you wont get stuck in a conversation.

Is it just single games or is there season mode or playoff
The 94 version only had three modes regular season ( pick the CPU then your team)
Playoff mode (single elimination 16 team east - west bracket)
Playoff mode 7-games ( same as above only its a 7 game series)
Shootout mode (5 skaters take turns on each team to attempt a penalty shot but unlike today's NHL rules in 93 when the game was released there was no shootout in the actual NHL so the only rule that is different is that you have to use all 5 skaters)

No roster updates is stupid, at least give us up to date rosters when the new season starts, like come on EA.
The Genesis, Sega CD, and SNES did not have the ability to update rosters when games like NHL 94 was originally released.
