In response to Katrina Taylor's comment, I would like to add to this Ms. Mojo list Aunt Sponge and Aunt Spiker from James and the Giant Peach. Only the Devil himself would love these wicked yuckers of Aunts. They both went deep deep deep under MY skin so badly that I would've loved to have seen them killed as brutally as possible after they were wrapped up in spider string!
It speaks volumes for an actor to play a character so well that they are truly hated! I remember when Titanic came out, Billy Zane had to shave his head and constantly hide his identity because people hated HIM so much for how well he was despised in the movie!!!
Billy Zane honest looks attractive with a shaved head, & that perfomance is reason enough for him to play Lex Luthor at some point in a future “Superman” movie or show.
I love Zane's performances as a villain. He's so damn good at it that he literally plays a powerful demon in Demon Knight. "Fuckin Ho-dunk Po-dunk, well then there MOTHERFUCKERS!"

Donald Sutherland did a great job of playing President Cornelius Snow in the Hunger Games series. But I hate President Alma Coin from Hunger Games: Mockingjay even more. At least Snow was honest the whole time and showed he was always an asshole. But Coin was two-faced who used and backstabbed many people, including the hero of the Hunger Game series, Katniss Everdeen. Hey, what's wrong with Princess Atta? She was a pretty good lovable character. Everyone else also had their own character development throughout the movie too. :(
I personally think judging by Lotso’s backstory, the filmmakers want us to feel bad for him and what motivates him to do these terrible, unforgiving deeds. The Riveras may be unlikable at first because they refuse to let Miguel play music, but it’s Ernesto de la Cruz who caused the events of the movie in the first place.
If you hate Ming Lee, you completely misunderstood Turning Red. Yes, she’s an overprotective helicopter mom. A lot of Asian moms are. But she has a lot of character growth (literally) by the end of the movie.
I just recently watched the Lorax for the first time in a while, and I completely forgot how annoying the Once-ler’s family was. They laugh at him for being a failure, he makes a thneed and they demand him to make more (they even helped him cut down all the trees), and then get mad at him for cutting them all down.
Didn't she win a best supporting for the role? Her face so pretty, her demeanor, so wicked, her performance so captivating. Catch her in the comedy 'The Cheap Detective' for the contrast of characters she's played.
Eve Harrington, "All About Eve". Regina Giddens, "The Little Foxes" Mr. Potter, "It's A Wonderful Life" Harry Ellis, "Die Hard" Coach Kilmer, "Varsity Blues" Jim, "Edward Scissorhands" Captain Bligh, "Mutiny on the Bounty" Stanley Kowalski, "A Streetcar Named Desire"
Samson’s unloving father from The Wild. I don’t think he ever really loved his son, he’s an impatient perfectionist who forces his own son to roar like a lion but the cub was too young to do so.
Emma Thompson also did a good job at playing the villainous principal in the movie musical. I’d give points to both Ferris and Thompson, so it’s a tie.
I remember watching Happy Gilmore for the first time in 9th grade physical science class with my friends in our COVID-19 days. Shooter was so tempting to ruin Happy's ego as a golfer in public, but he got underestimated and got what he deserved in a sweet taste of sour revenge. I still despise his character since he tried to do it in public *IN A LIVE GAME.* 😑
I actually hated president coin in the Hunger games more than president snow. I love how katniss recognized that she could be as evil or even worst than snow and killed her instead.
I’ll never forgive him for what he did to Rocket’s friends and his creations. He never learned the consequences of playing the role of God from either Victor Frankenstein or John Hammond.
To be fair, Denathor was done dirty in the movies. They had to cut out his backstory because the movie was already long enough. He was a just & noble man, driven to insanity by Sauron through his use of a palantir.
What's really insane is that the majority of the actors who play these despised characters are the total opposite in real life. Pretty much all of them are actually down to earth sweethearts. It's crazy that it would usually take one movie role for them to be universally hated and feared by the masses. But remember, hate the character, not the actor playing them. It just shows how good they play the part.
Donald Sutherland did such an excellent job portraying President Snow’s cunning and callous nature. Can’t wait to see how he came to be that way in the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes
A few honorable or dishonorable mentions: Terry silver - karate kid franchise General hux - star wars franchise Ivan Drago - Rocky franchise Peter creedy - v for vendetta Regina george - mean girls Lord Cutler Beckett - pirates of the caribbean franchise
Kept waiting for Umbridge to be in the list, was so glad she is #1 🤣 Imelda Staunton is incredible at being unlikable. I've had teachers that genuinely hate children and their job and she nails that personality in her performance.
Carl Denham from 1933's King Kong. There's a line where he talks about having "taken some of the fight out of him (Kong)" when the poor bugger is hogtied in a metal restraint. He doubles down on the villainy in Son of Kong by not only going after the eponymous Son of Kong but refusing to accept the responsibility for the damage to New York and the fatalities of Kong's escape attempt.
-Emperor Commodus(Gladiator) -John Kreese(The Karate Kid) -Bella Swan(Twilight) -Warden Norton(The Shawshank Redemption) -Jenny (Forrest Gump) -the stepfather(sucker punch) -Ernesto de la Cruz (coco) -Ivan Drago (Rocky) -Grandmother (Flowers in the Attic) -Peter creedy (v for vendetta) -White Goodman(Dodgeball) -Robert Dixon (In the Name of the Father)
Paulie from Rocky (though not an antagonist) is not very likable. He can be a grumpy, pessimistic, argumentative jerk who takes advantage of his sister’s kind nature. However, he still supports Rocky. He’s just a little misunderstood that’s all.
I've always had the theory that Rose"s mother pimped out Rose to Cal, meaning, she procured them to have sex before marriage which in those times meant Rose either married Cal or she'd be shunned by everyone. But to Rose's mother that was guarantee. That's why Cal acts even more as he owns Rose, because in a way, he does. I'm also pretty sure Rose takes Jack's virginity
The interesting thing about mayor Vaughn in the movie Jaws if you have to read the book to understand why he was the way he was. The mob was involved and it forced him actually leaving the town toward the end of the book
You also have to remember that Spielberg and the screenwriters actually wind up using the character of Vaughn to bring some nuance to the movie's characterizations: "Martin, my kids were on that beach too."
Percy was on the list (at #7). Otherwise, good choices. Though I think John Malkovich's performance as Cyrus in Con Air was so (purposefully) over the top that the character feels more comical than hateful. He's almost like a Bond villain.
2:44 its actually pretty ironic because now in Taxi Driver, Kim Eui-Sung (who played the hated Yonsook in Train to Busan) is playing one of the BELOVED characters in the series, CEO and Do-Ki's "best father" Jang Sung Chul and much like Seok-Woo, he is also very protective of his adoptive kids too.
While perhaps not a “character,” because he was a portrayal of an actual person, Amon Goethe in Schindler’s List (played by Ralph Fiennes) was easily the most detestable for me.
How about Amon Goeth from Shindlers List? Interestingly, Spielberg played down the real life Goeth in the movie, because the audience might not have believed a man could be that evil.
Both Walter Peck from "Ghostbusters" and Richard Thornburg along with Dwayne T. Robinson from "DIE HARD" are my most hated characters as I dislike them very much.
I’m glad Mayor Vaughn was on this list. I actually made that same parallel that they did because the mayor was obviously an inspiration… Come to think of it, Biff Tannen is an homage to the same person.
Pretty much in Get Out, I just hate the mother. Cause she uses vulnerability as a weapon. When he slaps that tea cup to the ground it got the BIGGEST reaction out of me.
Such a coincidence that I saw Train to Busan yesterday and was thinking how hateful Yon-Suk is. Heck, even after dead he ruins the happy ending of the protagonists
The bully in Back To The Future. There was a guy just like him at my high school, and he’d hurt and taunt me nearly every day with his friends. So I’ve always held extra hate towards him
Obadiah Stane/Iron Monger - Iron Man, Lord Cutler Beckett - Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, Harry Ellis - Die Hard, Dylan Gould - Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Howard Saint - The Punisher and Commodus - Gladiator.
Here are some of mine (I’ll add more if I can think of any): Mary Jane Watson (Spider-Man franchise), Warden Norton (Shawshank Redemption), Wild Bill (The Green Mile), pretty much every character in Twilight, Amanda Young (Saw), Captain Marvel
#20: Mayor Larry Vaughn (Jaws) #19: Shooter McGavin (Happy Gilmore) #18: Yon-Suk (Train to Busan) #17: Walter Peck (Ghostbusters) #16: Margaret White (Carrie) #15: Terence Fletcher (Whiplash) #14: Cal Hockley (Titanic) #13: The Armitage Family (Get Out) #12: Bill Lumbergh (Office Space) #11: Carter Burke (Aliens) #10: Biff Tannen (“Back to the Future” franchise) #9: Matilda’s Family & Miss Agatha Trunchbull (Matilda) #8: Denethor (The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King) #7: Percy Wetmore (The Green Mile) #6: President Coriolanus Snow (“The Hunger Games” franchise) #5: Mrs. Carmody (The Mist) #4: Nurse Ratched (One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest) #3: Captain Vidal (Pan’s Labyrinth) #2: Calvin J. Candie (Django Unchained) #1: Dolores Umbridge (“Harry Potter” franchise)
The Wormwood family were such jerks towards Matilda, but Miss Trunchbull was just a complete psychopath (“Matilda”). And speaking of psychopathic school faculties, Terence Fletcher (“Whiplash”) was vicious towards those poor students to the point where he makes them cry or when he drives them to suicide. So much for abusive parents and psychopathic principals and teachers.
Here are some more suggestions for honorable mentions: Tom (Paul Bettany) - Dogville Mr Perry (Kurtwood Smith) - Dead Poets Society Karen (Diane Franklin) - The Last American Virgin Dick Jones (Ronny Cox) - Robocop Frank (Henry Fonda) - Once Upon a Time in the West Noah Cross (John Huston) - Chinatown Roger Simmons (Richard Chamberlain) - The Towering Inferno Pete Isherwell - Don't Look Up
The thing about Umbridge vs. Voldemort is that Voldemort, while undoubtably cruel, evil, vile, and hated, he is clearly a fairy tale like villain. However, everyone knows an Umbridge in real life. Thats what makes her so terribly worse then Voldemort. Whether it be a former teacher, a boss, administration, a politician, we ALL have come across an Umbridge, she is a real world villain.
Jonathan Noble does SUCH a good job making Denethor a POS... granted it's explained in the books that he's literally driven insane by Sauron through the Palantir
Don’t forget Johnny Friendly played by Lee J. Cobb in On The Waterfront. A loathsome villain in a time when characters were portrayed without the F word or other such language.
Amon Goeth from Schindlers list takes the cake for me. Not sure how he isn't on this list. Also I'd add Lotso from Toy Story 3. He was a real bastard as well even if he was a teddy bear.
As you can tell I love this list 😂: Another point… I hate Steven more than Candie in Django. Of course we hate Candie… that’s easy. But Samuel L Jackson arguably gave the best performance of his career with Steven. And it’s because I HATE THAT MAN SO MUCH. How can you make someone so odious so watchable!!!!!
My daughter was so traumatized by Agatha that I had to look for the actress on the internet to show her what a nice lady she seemed to be. Even like that, she didn't believe it was the same person. But now, ten years later, she's an actress too. I think discovering that you could be someone completely different for a film was an epiphany in some way for her.
I hate Walter Peck cause not just what was mentioned, but also putting the blame of the explosion on the Ghostbusters in the Mayor's office, he even makes up a story that they're using some kind of nerve gas to make people think their seeing ghosts. Chris Hargensen should've also been listed with Margaret White together. Dolores Umbridge, I don't love to hate her, I fully hate her. She infuriates me big time with flames 🔥.
I hate Walter Peck as well and I honestly wish he had been killed off in the film. It would’ve been satisfying if he got crushed by Stay Puft’s foot during his rampage in New York City and the Ghostbusters captured and contained his ghost in their ghost trap.
No, cause she said and I quote that they were only counting characters that we were SUPPOSE to hate, not the ones that ended up bring hated because of either bad writing or performances. And since Jar Jar and BvS Luthor only ended up hated due to the latter, they do not count
Jar Jar is hilarious. No wonder people hate him so much. However, I see that Jesse Eisenburg was unfit to play Lex Luthor and should’ve brought Kevin Spacy to reprise his role (if he hadn’t been accused of sexual misconduct) or maybe cast Mark Strong because he’s good at playing sinister villains.
If there’s a character you hate and hate that they didn’t make our list, release your anger in the comments - nicely.

I just recently watched the Lorax for the first time in a while, and I completely forgot how annoying the Once-ler’s family was. They laugh at him for being a failure, he makes a thneed and they demand him to make more (they even helped him cut down all the trees), and then get mad at him for cutting them all down.
I’m surprised Anthony Michael Hall’s character “Jim” from Edward Scissorhands wasn’t on the list.
I just had that exact same thought. Thanks for mentioning it. Jim CLEARLY belongs on a list like this one here!
Tim Burton’s Beauty and the Beast
Nurse Ratched from the Oscar-winning movie ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.’
She is on the list....I believe number 5 or 4
Didn't she win a best supporting for the role? Her face so pretty, her demeanor, so wicked, her performance so captivating. Catch her in the comedy 'The Cheap Detective' for the contrast of characters she's played.
R.I.P. Louise Fletcher.
Eve Harrington, "All About Eve".
Regina Giddens, "The Little Foxes"
Mr. Potter, "It's A Wonderful Life"
Harry Ellis, "Die Hard"
Coach Kilmer, "Varsity Blues"
Jim, "Edward Scissorhands"
Captain Bligh, "Mutiny on the Bounty"
Stanley Kowalski, "A Streetcar Named Desire"
Samson’s unloving father from The Wild. I don’t think he ever really loved his son, he’s an impatient perfectionist who forces his own son to roar like a lion but the cub was too young to do so.
A movie is measured by the quality of the villain and Pam Ferris clearly had an absolute blast playing Trunchball and she played her brilliantly!
COVID , 9th grade? Still in school? Happy Gilmore came out 20 years ago
@@bradleyrobillard6917 Yep still in school, just got 10th grade ended. Also, please don't call me out just because I was born in the late 2000s
I actually hated president coin in the Hunger games more than president snow. I love how katniss recognized that she could be as evil or even worst than snow and killed her instead.
I think The High Evolutionary from Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 should have been this list. And if you have seen the movie, then you know why!
I’ll never forgive him for what he did to Rocket’s friends and his creations. He never learned the consequences of playing the role of God from either Victor Frankenstein or John Hammond.
As well as Ego, StarLord's father, who fathered children across the Galaxy to get one with his abilities..and kills all those who don't have them.
damn. i nearly cried when he killed rockets friends. that guy is cold AF
To be fair, Denathor was done dirty in the movies. They had to cut out his backstory because the movie was already long enough. He was a just & noble man, driven to insanity by Sauron through his use of a palantir.
I didn't know that. I tried to read the books, but I got bored two chapters in. It just failed to grasp my attention.
And he’s Kiefer’s dad. What a legendary father and son!

A few honorable or dishonorable mentions:
Terry silver - karate kid franchise
General hux - star wars franchise
Ivan Drago - Rocky franchise
Peter creedy - v for vendetta
Regina george - mean girls
Lord Cutler Beckett - pirates of the caribbean franchise
I’d say John Kreese and Terry Silver are both unlikable because they’re both corrupt karate senseis who take delight in bullying Daniel Larruso.
@@brycecarroll9665 John kreese isn't all that corrupt in Cobra it's reveal he was a war hero, who could hate that?
That’s true. He did fight in a war. That commander/sergeant, whatever, hardened his heart to become like him.
Hell no Ivan Drago was cool. Replace him with George Washington Duke. I don't think anybody likes him.
@@superstarthomas Ivan Drago killed Apollo Creed in cold blood and showed no remorse what so ever
Kept waiting for Umbridge to be in the list, was so glad she is #1 🤣 Imelda Staunton is incredible at being unlikable. I've had teachers that genuinely hate children and their job and she nails that personality in her performance.
I have met a couple of teachers and a female 'manager as Umbridge.
I would add as an honorable mention Ralph Fiennes’s character “Amon Goeth” from “Schindler’s List”
That fact that Hans Landa from Inglourious Basterds wasn't on this list is beyond me....
Who can hate on Landa?
Shooter McGavin is probably one of the best and most hysterical antagonists.
What about Monique in precious. Her acting was so good I hated her as a person too😂
-Emperor Commodus(Gladiator)
-John Kreese(The Karate Kid)
-Bella Swan(Twilight)
-Warden Norton(The Shawshank Redemption)
-Jenny (Forrest Gump)
-the stepfather(sucker punch)
-Ernesto de la Cruz (coco)
-Ivan Drago (Rocky)
-Grandmother (Flowers in the Attic)
-Peter creedy (v for vendetta)
-White Goodman(Dodgeball)
-Robert Dixon (In the Name of the Father)
Isn't there a line that Cal speaks where he says something to Rose about her 'being his wife if not in name'? or something similar?
@@laurellane1721 yeah, that's why I think they've had sex on the regular before marriage

Honorable Mentions:
* Commodus - "Gladiator" (2000)
* Cyrus "The Virus" Grissom - "Con Air" (1997)
* Marla Grayson - "I Care A Lot" (2020)
* Archibald Cunningham - "Rob Roy" (1995)
* Percy Wetmore - "The Green Mile" (1999)
Percy was on the list (at #7). Otherwise, good choices. Though I think John Malkovich's performance as Cyrus in Con Air was so (purposefully) over the top that the character feels more comical than hateful. He's almost like a Bond villain.
I feel like Benny from The Mummy should be somewhere on this list
Warden Norton from Shawshank Redemption and Commodus from Gladiator absolutely deserve spots on this list.
The guy that runs wherever Hannibal is in silence of the lambs
You yell shark we got a panic on our hands on the 4th of July. Dunno why but I love that line.
Carrie should've SERIOUSLY thought about getting adopted by her gym teacher Miss Collins.
To be fair , after the war , Umbridge was brought to justice and ended up in Azkaban for life for her crimes . 😊❤🎉
And was... Umm..."taken away" by centaurs. She got what she deserved over and over.
The John Wick franchise has done a great job creating smug, hate-able villains.
I can't believe you left out David Thewlis's Einon from Dragonheart and Tim Roth's Cunningham from Rob Roy
The vile English colonel from The Patriot.
I would've CHOPPED Einon inta little & buried them ALL OVER THE GODDAMN KINGDOM Just so Draco could live!!!!!
Thank you for the update, WatchMojo..!! While watching, I was wondering about Dolores Umbridge. 🤣
Good list!! You guys nailed this one😂
If Jenny (Forrest Gump) isn't #1 I'm gonna need a do over 🤘
I’m glad Mayor Vaughn was on this list.
I’d include Mary from Precious. Calling her an abusive parent is putting it very lightly, devastating to know people like her really exist
I definitely agree with you!! She let´s her husband 4bus3 her own daughter and then blames her for that! Oh, I hate that character so much!
«I'm sorry, professor. I must not tell lies.»
Thank you for Snow! I genuinely don’t understand how these new hunger games fans think Gale is worse than him
Tom Wilson (Biff from BTtF) is a hilarious comedian. I wish he got more famous than he did in real life.
The bully in Back To The Future. There was a guy just like him at my high school, and he’d hurt and taunt me nearly every day with his friends. So I’ve always held extra hate towards him

I was like, if number one isn't Nurse Ratched or Dolores Umbridge, this list is wrong. Glad you didn't disappoint.
Obadiah Stane/Iron Monger - Iron Man,
Lord Cutler Beckett - Pirates of the Caribbean franchise,
Harry Ellis - Die Hard,
Dylan Gould - Transformers: Dark of the Moon,
Howard Saint - The Punisher
and Commodus - Gladiator.

Good call. Buzz was very unlikable. But Frank was already an adult and middle aged.
Y'all don't go back quite far enough. I thought of one you missed. The Captain from Cool Hand Luke. OMG!! He's on par with Ratched!!
Don't forget George Kennedy from same movie. Couldn't believe he snitched on Luke.
#20: Mayor Larry Vaughn (Jaws)
#19: Shooter McGavin (Happy Gilmore)
#18: Yon-Suk (Train to Busan)
#17: Walter Peck (Ghostbusters)
#16: Margaret White (Carrie)
#15: Terence Fletcher (Whiplash)
#14: Cal Hockley (Titanic)
#13: The Armitage Family (Get Out)
#12: Bill Lumbergh (Office Space)
#11: Carter Burke (Aliens)
#10: Biff Tannen (“Back to the Future” franchise)
#9: Matilda’s Family & Miss Agatha Trunchbull (Matilda)
#8: Denethor (The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King)
#7: Percy Wetmore (The Green Mile)
#6: President Coriolanus Snow (“The Hunger Games” franchise)
#5: Mrs. Carmody (The Mist)
#4: Nurse Ratched (One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest)
#3: Captain Vidal (Pan’s Labyrinth)
#2: Calvin J. Candie (Django Unchained)
#1: Dolores Umbridge (“Harry Potter” franchise)
The Wormwood family were such jerks towards Matilda, but Miss Trunchbull was just a complete psychopath (“Matilda”). And speaking of psychopathic school faculties, Terence Fletcher (“Whiplash”) was vicious towards those poor students to the point where he makes them cry or when he drives them to suicide. So much for abusive parents and psychopathic principals and teachers.
Here are some more suggestions for honorable mentions:
Tom (Paul Bettany) - Dogville
Mr Perry (Kurtwood Smith) - Dead Poets Society
Karen (Diane Franklin) - The Last American Virgin
Dick Jones (Ronny Cox) - Robocop
Frank (Henry Fonda) - Once Upon a Time in the West
Noah Cross (John Huston) - Chinatown
Roger Simmons (Richard Chamberlain) - The Towering Inferno
Pete Isherwell - Don't Look Up
Sharon Stone as Ginger from Casino should be on this list
Haha I just commented the same thing. Absolutely.
Funny thing is she's just my type.
Jenny from forrest gump will always be number 1 in most of
Our hearts.
In conclusion, the best way to write a hated character, is to write a stupid or bad person, who has an unfair advantage over the protagonist
good point
The thing about Umbridge vs. Voldemort is that Voldemort, while undoubtably cruel, evil, vile, and hated, he is clearly a fairy tale like villain. However, everyone knows an Umbridge in real life. Thats what makes her so terribly worse then Voldemort. Whether it be a former teacher, a boss, administration, a politician, we ALL have come across an Umbridge, she is a real world villain.
Hilly Holbrook in The Help. Abilene was on the money when she told her that she was Godless.
The behind the scene's story with Wilson, DeVito, and Perlman in a way, almost make the characters the two play, harder to hate.
Billy Zane even appeared twice on the list:
Once in "Titanic" and once when he was still quite young as a member of Biff Tannen's gang.😎
Very good list! I would also add the journalist Richard Thornburg in Die Hard 1 and 2… totally insufferable!
Jonathan Noble does SUCH a good job making Denethor a POS... granted it's explained in the books that he's literally driven insane by Sauron through the Palantir
Love your lists!😊😊❤❤
Props to Umbridge, though. She caused an entire generation to reject the color pink.
Don’t forget Johnny Friendly played by Lee J. Cobb in On The Waterfront. A loathsome villain in a time when characters were portrayed without the F word or other such language.
205: I see Agatha Trunchball from Matilda and President Snow from The Hunger Games, I clicked.
Amon Goeth from Schindlers list takes the cake for me. Not sure how he isn't on this list. Also I'd add Lotso from Toy Story 3. He was a real bastard as well even if he was a teddy bear.
Lotso would likely be fit for a list of most despised Disney characters.
Ben Stiller's character in Happy Gilmore was even more worthy of hatred. What's worse, he never got what was coming to him.
He got thrown off the second floor balcony in a deleted scene, lol

As you can tell I love this list 😂:
Another point… I hate Steven more than Candie in Django. Of course we hate Candie… that’s easy. But Samuel L Jackson arguably gave the best performance of his career with Steven. And it’s because I HATE THAT MAN SO MUCH. How can you make someone so odious so watchable!!!!!
I would add Glenn Talbot and David Banner from Ang Lee’s Hulk.
Honestly I think Steven is a much more despicable character then Calvin
I can't fathom how Mr. Potter from It's a Wonderful Life didn't make (let alone lead) the list!
Walter Peck had a valid point; he just went about things all wrong. Venkman's heckling though didn't help matters either.
You should have kept Jar Jar and Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg).
