Performed as a soldier along with about 50 other people on “Hell On The Border” with David Gyasi, Ron Perlman, and Frank Grillo. We filmed a camp scene at night in freezing weather for about 10 hours. This scene was cut and we didn’t know it until the premeire. What a disappointment that was. Well it’s going to happen sometime.

i was in this movie called bad cupid that came out in februare of this year. you coudnt really see me because i was a background actor and i was blured out, but im proud to say that i was in a movie and i cant wait to be in more movies. i wanna be an actor really bad. im also in this movie called nightmare alley with bradley cooper in it. im also a background actor in that movie as well. the movie is coming out in december of this year. cant wait for it to come out. yes i did meet bradley cooper lol. was the best thing ever.
It's happened to me with a movie where my scene was cut, but thankfully the other one was kept and turned out great! Also had it happen where I was booked and then was told that there were budget cuts and because of that, 9 actors were cut from doing a commercial including me. You gotta keep trying and submitting. You can't win if you don't try!

I got cut from a Samsung commercial. Still got paid, but of course was disappointed. Then I was accepted for an LG commercial, that I wouldn't have got if I had appeared in the Samsung commercial! (Since they are competitors). Note: I am in South Korea.

So sorry this happened to you but I needed to hear this! It happened to me recently and it is so disappointing! Found out watching the episode. Thankfully I was able to work out why it was cut, made sense, but it’s still soul crushing.

A month ago I did my very first small role with a few semi-improvised lines for a Finnish movie that's supposedly coming in theaters January 2022. I really hope my scene doesn't get cut, but I'm already mentally preparing that it just might get. Thanks for your videos, I've been watching these the past week and have taken a lot of mental notes. I was working BG at the time, so I had no lines...but My scene was cut from Queen of the South. I was all geared-up to watch and when the scene appeared.....Nothing! lol...I'm grateful that happened when I was still just doing background work, so I got a taste of that disappointment early on.

YESSSS this happened to me - soooo rough!!! I was counting on my scene for my demo reel - was my largest booking to-date (a principal role in an ep of a big network show) - and womp womp... Not there. No heads-up for being cut.. literally had a viewing party with friends when it aired, only to find out I was cut (OUCH!!!) It is hard not to question, although in my case I know they loved what I did (they had told me on set), and also they were re-writing other parts of the storyline on the spot on set, so that's just the way it went!!
You just made so many actors feel better.

Thanks for sharing this. I totally identify! The chances of it happening will always be there unless it is ones own production. That footage removed however may resurface later should a release of "the making of" type of programs, outtakes, or in the case of feature films "special cuts where the director may speak of their experiences making the film" and deleted scenes on blueray discs. This happened to me a few times. (which means it's a pain in the ass to bust a BR DVD to get the footage).
It can be soul crushing. I booked six days on "Ghost in the Shell" as four different characters and was always placed by the director next to the lead. In the final cut there is only a glimpse-a flyby appearance for less than a second and a appearance in one of the special features. One scene made the trailer but in the end it was deleted and doesn't appear anywhere. Sigh. However I was paid well. But the let down from the anticipation of being in a world-wide blockbuster... But the thing is, if one conducts oneself professionally and impresses one can be remembered for future productions. This also happened to me. I show up on time, I know my scenes and lines, I do my thing, thank everyone, then leave. As a general rule my actions should make the jobs of all others easier. It's not all about me. This paid off in a future production from a director whom I had previously worked for where I was totally cut out of the movie. I was called by a directors assistant directly asking for my availability and a meeting for a special role in another huge production which called for shooting in two countries. One must fit their vision.
Be positive and just keep doing what ones passion is.

They filmed me in a fantastic scene for Ghostbusters 2016 in which I landed on the windshield of Ecto 1, staring right into the camera, which was in the driver's POV. Slimer was to be driving. My mug would have filled the entire screen. The whole segment was cut. Major bummer. :)
Visa Commercial: " I did alot of football/sports gigs.. and this was a weird situation.. Me and a NFL guy ( Both Same size) was supposed to be walking in 3 stores.. and I had 1 reaction line..So we had to wait until the guy got out of practice..but practice ran late..So when I arrived on set.. they "Cut" my character..but I got changed to a Stand In/Body double.. He literally came straight from practice..it was in season .. still got a nice buyout check for 1 day 🤨

It’s painful though but it’s also better you don’t feel embarrassed when you see your acting. At Least the director knows what they want .but it more painful if everything is cut out

I had this experience recently. I was booked for an Amazon series to play one of the principal character's co-worker. When I got to set, the director said there was some time that needed to be filled off the top of the scene, so they had me improvise a bunch of dialogue to fill that gap. Everyone seemed to really enjoy what I did and thought it was funny. Even my co-actor (who is a very recognizable face in television) was quite complimentary of my work in the scene. I was even bumped up to the next pay grade for all the extra lines! But when I watched it, all of my improv dialogue was cut, as was another one of my lines. So when all was said and done I had one line that actually made it into the episode. Nothing for the reel with that one unfortunately 😕
I mean it's bound to happen anything can happen but getting you're scenes cut has to be rare
Hey Kurt, I know you live in Atlanta but you also book roles in other states. Does your agent submit you for those roles or do they give you an option to just work in the area or state that you live in?
Depends if the casting director in the other state is taking submissions from Atlanta. For example, casting directors in California are probably not taking submissions form Atlanta agents because they have plenty of actors to choose from in their own state. However, a state like North Carolina will probably look to Atlanta agents to find actors because the pool of actors in NC is not as large and the proximity to Georgia makes it a good option.
Congratulations on your upcoming film project! One door closed but another one opened! Am I correct in assuming that they still compensate you for time spent when they cut your scene?
Yep, actors still get paid for the days that they worked. However, if the project pays residuals, then any actor who was cut out of the final edit would not receive residual payments.

"If your performance was bad, they would have addressed that on set."
- Exactly. I have to remind myself this and friends after a shoot that they didn't hate your performance! They would have told you when you were shooting if they needed something else from you! These are big budget productions and they don't have the time or money to waste on bad performances so they'll let the actors know right away if they want an adjustment. If they didn't say anything, assume you gave a good enough performance for them to trust you to be on screen representing their brand.
There was an actress who committed suicide in 1932 by jumping from the letter "H" on the Hollywood sign because her part got cut from a movie. There's people who believe the sign is haunted by her ghost but I've been hiking up to the sign since I was fifteen, sometimes at night even (by myself), I've never seen anything strange. But there's a LOT of "ghost" stories involving Griffith Park, this is just one of them. I still hike up there at night BTW.
I too have had parts cut from TV shows, in one case I had just played a detective on a show called "Public Morals" and they decided it would be a good idea to cut my hair really short. But I was already booked on another show for the following weekend called "Unusual Suspects"; again playing a detective but when I showed up to the set the director took one look at my hair & said he was going to have to re-cast because now I look exactly like the lead actor in the show (with the shorter hair). I was still in that episode (as background) but my scene got cut. Moral of the story: getting a haircut can mean getting a scene cut. Obviously I didn't go jump off the "H" on the Hollywood sign because this is something that happens to every actor at some point in their career. You live, you learn, you grow. I've had much worse things than having scenes cut happen to me.
I've forgotten lines while on stage in front of a live audience, I've been screamed at by a director of a play in which I was the lead actor (but he was kind of an obnoxious douche-bag anyway). I didn't quit the show, I came REAL close but this happened during rehearsal, one day before our opening night and I didn't want to leave my fellow actors to perform with someone else as their lead; someone they hadn't rehearsed with. On opening night the other actors told me they thought I was going to quit - I told them that I almost did and told them that the only reason I didn't was because of them. I don't want to mention the name of the theater but I'll give you a hint - I told the other actors that the director can "Kiss the dark side of my ass" and I made sure he was within earshot when I said it. But I didn't then go jump off the letter "H" the next day. We got a standing ovation a few nights later and there was a producer in the audience who saw the performance and decided that he wanted to cast me in a TV Spec pilot he was producing. So I worked on that next & it never got picked up by the networks but that was the job that made me Sag eligible. You've got to stick around long enough to see how the story ends. If Peg Entwhistle had simply ALLOWED herself to continue living she may have seen and done amazing things which she could have never anticipated.

Can I ask you some questions? How important do you think an acting school is from 1-10? Can you start making movies / TV series without having studied acting? When you have to prepare a scene, do you prepare it with the other actors in order to decide together how to move on the set?
Acting classes are the single most important thing you can do for your career. On a scale of 1-10, acting classes are 11. Can you start making movies / shows without having studied acting? Sure, you can definitely try. But in my opinion, you are going to be in a disadvantage to the people who have the training. As far as scene preparation, you rarely get to work with the other actors beforehand. This is very different from theatre. In theatre, you have weeks or months of rehearsals. For film/tv, rehearsals happen the day of filming.

How do acting schools work? Since in the meantime I would also like to find a job in los angeles, do you have to go to these schools every day for many hours at established times or can you go when you have time?
This just recently happened to me this week; I booked a tv movie entitled Christmas in Harmony, I wasn't notified by my agent. So, finding out with all my friends and family sucked. But is it a way that I can still retrieve the scene for my reel?

Yeah, I was an extra in 'Mrs. Doubtfire' in the older daughter's spelling bee scene. I was one of the parents sitting behind Sally Fields and the kids. Even though I was just an extra I was all excited that I'd be seen (in focus!) so I made the big mistake of telling all of my friends and family.
Of course it was cut for timing purposes.
Jonathan Brandis had his scene cut from Harts War. This led to depression and he was found hanging in his apt less than a year later.
I played one of Edward James Olmos's soldiers in the most recent Predator. It was exciting, because I had liked Olmos (Blade Runner inspired me to work in film) and Thomas Jane for so long. They eventually cut Olmos out of the entire movie, and so I was cut out, as well. Not sure how they were able to cut an entire character from a movie that involved the main characters, but c'est la vie. -- Recently, I worked on a show where they pulled a scene from the afternoon to the morning and the actor was not on his way, yet, to set. They must have called him to tell him to stay home and simply put the showrunner in a costume for a one-liner. I felt this was so wrong, just because they wanted to shoot the scene earlier than scheduled.
The movie I appeared in was shelved. I had quite a major role. Six weeks of filming in Holland and most of my scenes were with a veteran stage/film actor.
Because of another film that had been released at the same time and on roughly the same theme, it was shelved, never to see the light of day.

By the sounds of it 90% of the guest actors got cut from how I met your mother. Most people would have hated auditioning for a short show with so many scenes.

Personally if my scene gets cut I don't put it on my resume or IMDb because if it's cut that means I'm not getting the footage for my reel. I don't like to have anything on my resume if I don't also have the footage to add to my reel & on your LA Casting profile resume you can add short clips to every single entry on your resume - IF you have the footage.
That's why I never add IMDb credits until I've confirmed that I appear in the project. By the time the project is released, typically production has already added me to IMDb. If they haven't, I'll check and make sure I wasn't cut and then add the credit myself. As for resume, you are allowed to keep those credits on your resume even if your scene(s) were cut.

I want to start auditioning and putting myself out there but i don’t have an agent. I take private acting lessons with my acting coach and she said it didn’t matter as I’m with an agency. But you tubers are telling me I need an agent for auditions. So I’m a bit confused. I’m signed up with an agency but i don’t actually have an agent.
An agency is the company. The people that work for the agency are called agents. So if you are with an agency, then the people that work their are your agents.

Submitting for projects: Actors Access, Casting Networks
You certainly do NOT need an agent to get started. Like I said, you can self submit on sites like Actors Access. But eventually, if you wan to be considered for the major movies and tv shows filming in Atlanta, you will need an agent. The vast majority of major productions are not going to be posting their auditions to the public, they are only going through talent agents to find their actors.

That sucks and imagine if you are just appearing in one scene and that one gets cut that means you did not even appear in the movie or tv show
Yeah, it's a normal part of being an actor and we must accept it.
The upside is working actors with a signed contract still get paid.
Hey Kurt I've got a question, where I live doesnt have any school theatre or theatre club etc.. what can I do to practice my acting until I go to the cinema school ?
You can look for private acting teachers that teach classes after school or on the weekends.

Do you practice Meisner technique with a fellow actor friend outside of the classroom or do you only practice in the classroom? I’m asking as it would be easier to practice outside the classroom more regular than in the classroom and certainly wouldn’t cost any money . Is this a good or bad idea ? Perhaps you could make a video about this . As William esper says practicing outside the classroom is as if not more important

If I'm training in India, can I audition for Hollywood?
Depends if the particular Hollywood project is filming in India. It's extremely unlikely that a Hollywood project filing in the US will audition actors from other countries because it's cheaper for them to audition actors that live in the US. Ultimately, it all comes down to money because this is a business.
just a question, are drama schools and acting classes the same thing?
Sort of. Drama schools are usually degree programs through a college or university type environment. Acting classes can be at private acting studios that offer training outside of a university environment. Both are options to learn how to act. Both have their pros and cons. Neither one is necessarily better than the other.
