My preference is 6'6" or 6'8". I have alot of 7' but unless I am on a boat or pier the lil smaller is better, I fish kayak more than anything else. As far as reels, if I am targeting aggressive fish like big reds, drum, jumbo lady fish I something w some torque, a 4000. Okuma seems to run small, a 4k is still only 10oz. 2500 is just really too small for bigger salt water. I fish alot of 3000's also. Trout are easy but hard fighters like Macks or blues will wear your stuff out. Then there are baitcaster options..... If I am running and gunning for schooling fish that move I like my baitcaster (on non windy days). I have literally 40 rods and reels loaded and ready to go w others stashed in tubes and a couple 5 gall buckets w spare reels. I enjoy mixing and matching depending on the target. As long as you have quality stuff there's not a whole lot of wrong options.

Depends on how you are fishing. If you’re throwing cut bait you can beef it up some and use a slower tip. You’re throwing lures then this set up is fine for medium sized fish if you’re going for giants then you should beef it up.
Some would say a one piece rod is much better because it's a little stronger. But if you're not fighting 30lbs groupers everyday then it wouldnt make much difference. I just prefer two piece rods because its easier to take it to places.
Not any more, two piece rods are fantastic now and you will barely tell the difference. Even my 4 piece hiking rod you can barely notice that it isn't a one piece.
Hi, my name is Kim and I'm new to fishing. I have to say I've taken quite a liking to it, but I'm not sure what I need as far as rod and reel setups are concerned. I'm interested in doing some pier, bridges, and jetty fishing around a lot of structure. I want a rod that's very strong but lightweight as not to hurt my arms after a day of fishing as well as a long butt to assist me with pulling up the fish. What do you recommend?
The overall principle is to use the thinnest line possible to get maximized casting performance and feel of strikes. And then I beef up the business end (~2 ft next to the fish) because that's the section of line that is most likely going to get roughed up when fighting a fish. Another thing to know is that braid will generally have a much higher actual breaking strength relative to its listed strength compared to mono/fluoro. For example, my 10 lb powerpro typically breaks at 20 lbs when tied to a 20/30 lb leader. And that is actually higher than my loop knot on 20 lb leader so my 10 lb braid rarely ever breaks when using 20 lb leader.
I fish inshore and beach and piers I have a 3000 penn pursuit combo a 4500 slammer on a 12-20ib 1/2-2oz star rod and a battle 3 5000 ona a 15-30ib prevail 2 heavy
Recently I broke the tips of 3 medium action rods, using 30 pd braid and popping the rod for popping cork action. I don’t want to break anymore rods, what can I change to prevent this from happening?
Breaking Rod tips is almost always related to mishandling. Either holding the rod vertically while landing or the Rod being damaged during storage/transit witch creates small cracks that cause a break-off while fishing. I’d keep a Rod sock on them while not in use and if I have to hold the rod vertically to land a fish then I back way off on the drag before doing so.

If i may ask, how do you find the carbon shield rods? Looking for a 7ft6 mh and a 7ft m for inshore fishing with a 3000 and 2500 penn battle 3 respectively... Rods felt amazing but heard the tips are sensitive to breaking? Any opinions?
I find a good quality bait caster is better for me in the kayak. Lighter and I can cast much quicker and more accurately. I do carry both types of reels but find myself using the bait caster much more than the spinner.
@@frostizz2072 baitcasters designed for salt are few and north of $200 usually. Any quality freshwater reel will do fine. The only difference really between fresh and salt baitcasters is corrosion resistant bearings (notice I didn’t say corrosion proof). Either one will need regular cleaning and will provide long service if it was a quality reel to begin with.
@@frostizz2072 I would stick w Shimano or Daiwa. Having said that I have 1/2 a dozen Lews too. I prefer mag + cent anti backlash together. Magnetic only isn't all that effective. Some of the BPS baitcasters have both cent and magnetic and have been some of the best casting reels I have. I personally stick w lower gear ratios for torque when reeling lures w alot of resistance or heavier fish. Too high gear ratios have alot of break downs and stripped gears.

What Size/Weight Spinning Rod do You Recommend for a Quantum Cabo 40???
Depends on the species you'll be targeting and what types of lures/baits you'll be using.
