One time my dad bought a big bundle of computer stuff in the 90's from goodwill and we found a floppy that said "do not put me in" so naturally we proceeded to put it in a drive and a screen popped up saying "deleting hard drive in 10 seconds click cancel to abort deletion". When we tried to click on the button it MOVED AWAY FROM THE MOUSE CURSOR! So when it got to about 3 seconds left my dad yelled "PULL THE POWER CORD!!" And that absolutely made us poo a little. But we built a little computer out of the parts we had and put the floppy in the unimportant computer that was clean and let it count down and the screen just flashed "Haha made you shit your pants, love Steve" in a ms spray paint can style font.

I did something very much alike to my dad, only in an ms-dos .bat file.
It was just a list of texts asking for confirmation to wipe the drive, and all of them "advanced" and asked for confirmation again.
The joke went a bit short, my dad saw the first one and switched the power off! I realized that I hadn't cover all possibilities :P
I might have been better with computers, but he was smarter than his teenage son ;)

Ah, you found one of the first virusses, friendly virusses. In the 80's, McAffee saw this in in his office and got a plan: (speak with dark voice) "Let's make real evil virusses and I develop a tool to be able to remove them, $$$$$, WHOWHAHAHAHA!" :-D ;-)

Those types of jokes were very popular in the late 90s / early 2000s, there were entire websites dedicated to them.

2.0 MB is the unformatted capacity of a 1.44 MB diskette. 2.88 MB diskettes have an unformatted capacity of 4.0 MB and also have the "ED" logo on them, for "Extended Density". However, IBM's floppy drives do not have a media sensor, so you can stick in an ordinary 1.44 MB diskette and format it as 2.88 MB without any problems -- although the data integrity may not be as good as if you used a real 2.88 MB disk. And the 8515 monitor can actually display 1024x768, so it is an XGA monitor, not just plain VGA.

Lazy Game Reviews Last Friday I just threw out 3 of those exact same monitors that have been sitting in my house 20 - 25 years. Well taken to my local recycling center. They weren't touch screen either. I've got so much old computer garbage around here. I think it yellows because of a flame retardant material in it. I learned that back with Legos and then the SNES.

Lazy Game Reviews The 2.88 MB Drive needs 4 MB Floppies to format a full 2.88 MB, they are not useless in the least however, they generally can recover data from floppies that have been badly kept or that have aged poorly, as you have a few extras maybe you could connect one to the imaging controller for floppies, should cut down on time spent and increase accuracy of the images. I want to see more of the Tubes of RAM btw, I soo need tubes of RAM!

My first Windows computer was an IBM PS/2, but it was different than all of those you had. It actually had a push button power switch instead of the more common flip toggle. It came with a 3.5" and 5.25" floppy drive. The 5.25" was hidden behind a pop open panel which had an additional bay that we later added a SB16 CD drive to when we got our sound card. The monitor was different too, it had black peg knobs behind a flip down panel for brightness and contrast. Oddest thing of all... Even though it was a 486 PS/2, it came with a bunch of PS/1 software. We were the first owner of it, so it wasn't a case of getting the wrong stuff from the seller. We bought it from Radio Shack in the Jackson, MS mall back in 1993.

The Hitachi screen at 6:10 was a common thing on Wall Street for displaying market data. Cannot tell if there are two coax connectors on the back but I see a switch for 75 ohm termination. They would have taken RS170 (composite video) over coax from some sort of market data service. With two coax connectors it was possible to daisy chain them and display NYSE ticker on them all over the office. Assuming you had permission from NYSE that is. The last screen in the chain would have the 75 ohm termination switch set and the rest not. Their value is that they were stackable. The hard part was that the New York City building/fire/electrical code prohibits power strips that are not permanently mounted and connected to mains with conduit, so a power user might have a lot of PlugMold attached to his immovable trading desk.

    15:47 -- Holy nostalgia, Batman!
I remember my dad had a Zenith Z-Note laptop back in 1995, and it didn't have a CD-ROM drive, so he bought the floppy disk version of Windows 95. After he installed it on his laptop, he installed it on my computer (at about 7 or 8 at night) and it took until midnight to complete! I was so excited, I couldn't go to sleep but I had to because I had school that morning. :P

That entire haul is awesome, but a registered copy of WinZip might be the modern Holy Grail. I've heard whispers of its existence over the years, but I always laughed it off. "Who would register WinZip?", I always said. "That would be like actively seeking out and using an AOL trial disk."

Very cool and interesting stuff you got there. Brings back memories of my early days of computing. I've always liked how the IBM's systems looked back then. My first computer (stand alone/and on my own) was a Radio Shack TRS 80 model 16 with two 10 inch floppys , built in display, And 10 megabyte external hard drive. 512 or 640 megabits of ram and running Unix/Zenex . I got this system for free from family member and remember hearing it was 16 thousand dollars when purchased new. I also tinkered/programmed with the Commodore pet until I got frustrated running out of system ram. But my favorites when even younger was the Texas Instruments Ti 99 4a with voice synthesizer box, tape drive, And external floppy drive all hooked up using a tv . I also Used cartridges and I had the extended basic one as well. Loved the games for that system. Also loved the Apple 2: C, D, GS models. I remember in computer lab seeing an apple 1 made from wood mostly. Great times back then. Thanks for putting this video out there :)
