Check the roof line just above the windshield and make sure there's no bondo filler up there. If there is then the hood has blown up and that's probably what collapsed the cowl like that.
The 1965 Mercury Montclair with that roll down back window was call a breeze way as it was an option. My grandparents on my mom's side had the none breezeway version and it was like the biggest car they ever had. The Lincoln "emblem" as you called it on the Town Car that is on a spring is called a hood ornament. The Town Cars are nice as I have a stock 96, a 69 F100 Ranger with Explorer package B and 03 Ranger extended cab.
I recommend not bashing the cars apart to get what you need, karma always bites you when you end up needing that part next week that you smashed to kingdom come. I did it to myself many times
That shit is literally garbage brah Sun warped and shrunken trust me it would not look good slapped on another fox those are best bought new from a reputable company (the more expensive ones)
Ill be the bad guy here, but I hate it when people tear shit up to get what they want. Then when the next guy comes and needs what you tore up, he's SOL.
The gold wheels look like American Racing Gold nuggets is what they were called back in the day. We had a Custom Van and 4 wheel drive shop and installed many of them.
I have nothing but fond memories of my '89 notch and '91 hatch. As reliable as any car I've ever owned and that was with me constantly wrenching on them to make it faster and prettier. The aftermarket for these cars is phenomenal. It is arguably the perfect blank canvas car. From mild to wild, my Foxbodys always put a smile on my face.
I was watching this with my wife and I said "I love junkyards! It's like a treasure hunt!". And she says "it just kind of seems like you're walking through a really sad car show...".
If you even have the time to read these comments then my hats off to you as you are loaded with more work than a full time garage. Its not a bad thing but its a nuisance to you for getting anyone project finished. It won't be me that jacks on you as your work is real quality work and that says quite a bit for someone who is a school full time student. I used to see those gold center wheels on all the broncos back in the eighties. Should be a ton of them that are rusty but clean ones like in the yard are hard to find. I don't know why as I just didn't like the fox when new but it grew on me later in life. Wondering if a person could cut the cowl out with something and spot weld it back in one again.... just a idea and no more. I like the lope on the engine but a little higher rpm for oil pressure to stay up would seem to make sense. If your happy then ignore that statement
The cowl is a huge job on these. 1st take a deflated football and blow it up and see how much it pops the dent back out if it not bad it usually works. But yeah just sawzall a good one from the junk yard out and then start de spot welding the old one . Junk yard dawgz on you tube has a how to on the cowl. You should grabbed the 5 lug swap from the junk yard front 94-95 spenders and brakes and rear axles from a square body ranger and for areo star vans. Grab 3:73 and 4:10 gears out for explores .
The Fox body cars were notorious for panels not lining up the best even when new. Just keep that in mind when you do the body/prep work. Just don’t stress out trying for perfection, lol
“Replacing the cowl “ Pulling the dash, heater Box,windshield, wiper motor and drill all the spot welds . I pulled the motor also so I could drill the spot welds on lip on the firewall and weld back in. And the Gold nugget wheels right up there with the Keystone Classics 👍
1) The hood latch failed in the past, and the hood popped open at speed. Very common aero foxbody failure with aftermarket hoods. Keep the latch adjusted and lubricated at all times. 2) someone jacked it up by the pinch weld under the fender, a hammer and a block of wood will fold it back in and the fender should line back up. 3) the Mercury Pent Roof valve covers are very desirable, $100-150 as they are there. 4) Lower switch under the headlight switch is for fog lights on the GT. 5) The gold center steel wheels - we used to call them Pep Boys modulars back in the '80s. They were made by American Racing and several other companies. 6) The door trim on the LX convertible is what you need for your car, the GT trim is different. 7) Keep in mind that the '87-'90 fenders are different than '91-'93, which have bigger wheel openings for the 16 wheels. The front lower trim panels are different to match the fenders. Thanks for allowing me to share my trove of largely worthless Ford knowledge.
Great video. You look like a kid in a candy store. Go for it. If you don't do it now, you will regret it in the future. Look forward to all the videos on the FOX.
Left bezel switch is for fog lights on bottom but only GTs had fogs. 4cyl AC condenser is the same as 8cyl. Also 90-93 fenders have different wheel openings than 87-89
Either LMR, 5.0Resto, or Scott Rod Fab makes a whole replacement cowl. And also, a trick for that cowl, stick a deflated football under it and then Inflate it and it should pop up back into place 👌
Hey Craig, this may not be a huge help for used parts but if you check into Late Model Restoration they have a plethora of new parts that are upgrades for the fox bodies. Things like seat extension brackets, to move the seat back, and also a center console that has a big cup holder on it. They do a lot of interior refinish panels, and their stuff is really quite affordable. They have a good channel on youtube for some installation and how to of the items as well. I'm pretty sure you will find some stuff there that will help you refurb and help modernize your fox body.
Please don't get rid of the 5.0 badges, those are stock anyways. Hey I would recommend running a 94-95 (96-04 had different suspension geometry) front spindle for your 5 lug swap. because when I did mine i had mounting issues with the wheels, cuz the fox hub sticks out farther, then you can run any 94-04 wheel no issues. For paint I think you should go for a red or maroon with the body molding in black
so glad to see another person that hates cowl hoods. no way i would put one on anything i own. the exception may be something like the teardrop fords of the 60s. i still prefer a flat hood.
I’m not at all opposed to this new upload schedule! You must be out of school! I love that you’re keeping us fresh material but don’t get too wrapped up in it! Spend time with your family, girlfriend n friends too! I love seeing your dad pitch in on your projects! I’m jealous seeing your girl at the shows, my wife n I have 5 kids, shows are rare! The guys at PowerNation built an awesome fox body not too long ago! I think it was on Detroit Muscle…came out awesome. So much potential with these. I was always a fan of the t-tops!
Heyo! I believe those wheels are EMPI wheels. If something in the junkyard isn't broken it should stay unbroken. Do the foureye swap it looks really cool! The front clip should swap right over.
Those gold center wheels are original American Racing Wheels. I bought a set for my 56 Chevy project in 1985. Then they were discontinued when American went broke a few years later. I needed two more & it took me 10 years to find two more. There was a company that bought all the old inventory… try EBay. They are original Americans.
I’m new to your channel and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE YOUR CONTENT BUDDY🙏🏼😇🌅😎 I’ve been owning and driving fox bodies since 1997. Great choice for a project. Keep up The Great Work My Friend💪😎👊🏻
looks like the hood wasn't latched and it flew up bending the cowl, but it looks like they replaced the plastic piece and decided to bondo it after they realized, like you did that the cowl doesn't unbolt.
I myself actually I think I prefer the 94-96 body mustang and Ford Thunderbird cars, but as far as the fox body cars the mercury Capri are the ones I'd prefer because of the dash and I like the back end hatch and taillights more than the other ones.. the wheels are American racing outlaw, usually refered to as the chrome and golden nugget wheels.. had a unilug set of 14x7 golden nugget wheels for my 84 Oldsmobile Cutlass supreme brougham..
Shove a deflated football in the cowl and then pump it up to remove most of the dent. Most of the time the hood flips up while driving and damages the cowl.
That black hood aint lookin half bad btw.Black is suiting the car.Either that or paint it white.(Not standing out in the open air with dust around)!Start with mechanicals then go over to the aesthetics....
Yep. My friend in high school had the same wheels on his 65 Galaxee. American Racing was the brand of his. His were dark grey in the middle with the chrome rivets. Nice looking, cheap old school style wheels IMO.
american racing modular wheels they came in black insert, gold insert and chrome similar to the wheels you had on the white galaxie except for the round holes.
I would leave the hood a cowl induction. It's designed to pull air under the hood.. edit. :::: you can get those gold rims online. I think they were from modern, or American racing, or ultra. They are from the 90s
I think the wheels on that truck were called golden nuggets. They’re an American racing outlaw wheel I think? We have a set on one of our foxes. And good luck with the fox cowl, chances are the hood flew up on your car while driving and that’s what damaged it.
It is going to be real nice. Wheels are modulars mods for short were made by American racing. I Had black ones on my 82 TA US Wheel makes them now black chrome and white no gold.
I replaced the cowl on mine because the previous owner hacked it up to fit an intercooler. I've done paint and body most of my life and would never want to tackle another one. Try desperately to repair it first.
You know I am not a big fan of mustang's but it's way better than the focus. I paint it Ford blue or orange. The wheels are called sandel rims my dad had a set on a 79 GMC sierra. 2500
Dude they did the samething to me. I bought interior trim pieces. When I checked out they gave me warranty on all of it and didn't ask. Live and learn I guess
That cowl is welded in and the reason its bent is because the hood flew open at one time and bent the hell out of it. It seems to be a common problem on foxbodys they must of had issues with latches
Hey bro those Wheels you were asking about on that pickup truck in the junkyard back in the day they were called Western Wheels don't think they make that kind anymore but I'm sure they can make them just not by Western not sure that was back in the '80s '90s stay safe
Bumper peeling? Possibly bad prep, and/or wrong kind of paint. They make a type of paint for just this application. Hope you take it back to original paint color, but use "modern" paint. (base coat, clear coat) And fix the A/C. I can't even guess how hot that car will get without it!
And honestly if it wasn't for the fact I had 3 running fairly solid gbody cars 2 86 Oldsmobile 307 v8 Buick Regal sport coupes, and a 85;gold 3.8 231v6 Oldsmobile cutlass supreme brougham all three cars were around 135, miles the titled 86 was my daily driver and was medium gm grey metallic had 139, miles other 86 Buick regal sport coupe had a salvage title so no title and had almost perfect interior except the top of the rear seat, and great sounding drivetrain and my fairly clean faded red with black pinstripe 82 Chevy k20 Silverado 6.2 litre vin Z 4speed longbed farm truck I'd have bought the 93 235, miles 4cyl 5speed Calypso green metallic mustang I have mentioned when my best friend got a new car.. cowl panel correct me if I am wrong guys, but most cut the top of the cowl panel off and reweld a new one in, but required completely removing the windshield and hood..
Yea lkq is doing that now if you don't say you don't want a extended warranty they Charge you for it lol I asked the same thing why do I need a extended warranty on a damn sun visor and headliner I made them give me my money back
I think fords best mustang styles were the 60s sn95 new edge sn197 and the s500 . I never like the mustang 2s or the fox body cars. Not knocking you man. Your fox body does look pretty good. Cant wait to see what you have planned for it
I despise people who destroy cars .someone could have been needing that part.!!!!
Check the roof line just above the windshield and make sure there's no bondo filler up there. If there is then the hood has blown up and that's probably what collapsed the cowl like that.

I was going to give a thumbs up until they tore up hundreds of dollars of parts to get there parts. selfish
Respect for him definitely went down seeing that. This is probably why there’s no pick and pulls near me.

Hood flew up is what got that cowl. Buddy did the same thing in 87 with his foxbody. He put a glass hood on and forgot to put pins in
looks like the hood wasn't latched and it flew up bending the cowl, but it looks like they replaced the plastic piece and decided to bondo it after they realized, like you did that the cowl doesn't unbolt.

I believe the other switch under the head light is for the fog lights on the gt
Look up revstoration on TH-cam Craig,he has a older Mercury Montclair and a 68 Ford f100 with a 289, and a 62 Ford falcon.
american racing modular wheels they came in black insert, gold insert and chrome similar to the wheels you had on the white galaxie except for the round holes.
I had those mufflers on my 79 el camino. Yes they are rather loud, but the sound itself is nice.

@13:27. Modular Gold Nugget wheels.
Back in the day we called those "gold nugget wheels". I had an '87 S10 Blazer with a set on it.
Exactly right. They are American Racing gold nugget wheels. My cousin had them on a 70 skylark.
Hey bro those Wheels you were asking about on that pickup truck in the junkyard back in the day they were called Western Wheels don't think they make that kind anymore but I'm sure they can make them just not by Western not sure that was back in the '80s '90s stay safe
I have a feeling the hood flew up with someone in the past. Thus the cowl damage. I think LMR sells them to replace
Outlaw wheels tons made for Ford rangers the fx4 lvl2 has Alcoa wheels which was a factory attempt at the outlaw design I think
The Mercury that you saw at the junkyard can you get a emblem of the front of the car. I need the C off of the front.
U should lead up that cowl u can get it pretty smooth and also its for life
You've never done a cowl in mustang then. You will have to basically weld channels from post to post. Big job.
Bumper peeling? Possibly bad prep, and/or wrong kind of paint. They make a type of paint for just this application. Hope you take it back to original paint color, but use "modern" paint. (base coat, clear coat) And fix the A/C. I can't even guess how hot that car will get without it!
Yes another video I was hoping for one
The closest wheel I know is the creger series 320 quick trick wheels. That's what i got on my f100 but it doesn't have the bronze center.
