      Why are they getting rid of it?! It's my favorite ride!

    • @AMagicProduction
      @AMagicProduction 7 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      JuicyTaz201 because bob iger doesn't know what a classic attraction is and rather push IP's down everyone's throat.
      (To answer your question, the ride is getting replaced by a Mickey Mouse dark ride)

    • @crabpeople7542
      @crabpeople7542 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      AMagicProduction you have to admit though that all of those property's were very outdated. I know it's a classic but it needed to be updated. That being said not looking forward to crackhead goofy. If they do a Mickey ride use the classically drawn characters

    • @AMagicProduction
      @AMagicProduction 7 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Brian Woulfe no I agree, this ride should have been updated at least every 5-10 years to keep it relevant.
      And I agree 100% the new Mickey cartoons are frightening, if Mickey's gonna get his own ride at least make him look presentable and give him his classic look. Once again just proves Disney doesn't know what they're doing right now

    • @MrParkFan

      AMagicProduction what is "IP" ?

  • @falconflight28

    What a huge mistake by Disney. One of the best attractions they've ever created.

      falconflight28 IKR! 😭

    • @AMagicProduction
      @AMagicProduction 7 ปีที่แล้ว +44

      falconflight28 We can say a lot about Eisner and his whole era... but at least he gave us new and exciting attractions (let alone brand new parks) Iger is simply trying to push IP's down everyone's throats to make the stockholders happy. We need new leadership already !!

    • @falconflight28
      @falconflight28 7 ปีที่แล้ว +46

      AMagicProduction I agree. I'm not really a fan of these new-age 3D shows/attractions where they simulate what you're doing on a screen. Nothing beats a good ole fashion attraction where you actually move forward, for example The Great Movie Ride. I really hope Disney doesn't go in this direction and keeps attractions such as Winnie The Pooh, Peter Pan, etc. where you move. But with removing The Great Movie Ride, they need to change their name. This park has quickly lost its "Hollywood" feel and is basically just "Disney's Not Sure Anymore" park.

    • @Cargo_Bay
      @Cargo_Bay 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      FalconFlight pretty sure the new Mickey ride will be a carbon copy of the mechanics of GMR. Large capacity vehicles moving between screens and set pieces

    @mattmatarante6272 7 ปีที่แล้ว +245

    Yup. Just keep taking things away from hollywood studios because there is so much to do there already.
    Oh wait.. There isn't. This park is basically dead until next year. They should have waited to close this.

    • @lessofamess9298
      @lessofamess9298 7 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      They want Mickey's first major attraction to open in time for the park's 50th anniversary. Better they close it now and start construction soon than wait until next year and build a lower quality ride with less time.

    • @TheMinerZ3
      @TheMinerZ3 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Matt Matarante they haven't closed that many rides isn't it just this, the Indiana Jones show, and the studio tour? They still have toy story, rock'n roller coaster, tower of terror, star tours, and the Muppet show. Which are the night more popular attractions.

    • @mattmatarante6272
      @mattmatarante6272 7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Keem they also got rid of the stunt show and the kid play area. Basically they have 4 Rides and like 4 shows. There is stuff to do but i mean compared to the other parks it just doesn't do justice. Don't get me wrong, i love hollywood studios. Its just that it is all happening at once.

    • @0giraffe0
      @0giraffe0 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Matt Matarante there's only like 4 rides at all the parks except the Magical Kingdom, which are all geared towards the youngest visitors. Hollywood Studios still has the best rides and really the only ones worth riding if you're over a certain age.

    • @the_hoagie5463
      @the_hoagie5463 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      giraffe I wouldn't say that all of Magic Kingdom's rides are geared for little kids. A lot are, but rides like space mountain aren't, and that isn't the only one, either. There's star tours and splash Moutan and many more. Most of the rides are for young kids, but not all

  • @skatealex1
    @skatealex1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +96

    It sucks to see this ride go. Hopefully the new Mickey Mouse ride will be quality. I also hope they keep other classic rides like the older dark rides and Spaceship Earth in Epcot.

    • @AppleGaming4Real

    • @nigeldreiner
      @nigeldreiner 7 ปีที่แล้ว +46

      That's because it's not a roller coaster and so many guests today have no attention span and no interest in anything made before the year they were born. This was one of the best rides - education and entertainment, which was Walt's vision for his parks.

    • @AppleGaming4Real
      @AppleGaming4Real 7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      It's actually very simple to why they closed it.
      1. It's not popular
      2. It's outdated.
      3. They had to get a lot of rights for it.
      It was a great ride, but we have to look for the future.

    • @Cargo_Bay

      Yeah I was there on a Saturday in summer and walked on... people who aren't actually Disney Park fans don't care enough about the ride to justify keeping it open. Obviously we all love it but most people are bored of it by now.

    Disney back at it again removing precious rides that have brought joy to many all around the world. First it was the Nordic ride which is now Frozen, then it was Tower of terror in California, and now Universe of Energy and The Great Movie Ride? Why Disney, don't do this to us.

    • @drx630

    • @Ultrabalor
      @Ultrabalor 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In all fairness, Maelstrom wasn't really a big deal, it just blended in the background with other attractions in EPCOT. The Tower of Terror in Disney World is the better than the California version. Universe of Energy, renamed Ellen's Energy Crisis/Adventure wasn't praised by theme park fans. The Great Movie Ride came at a time when the Disney Studios didn't have any hit movies. Replacing attractions is what the Disney theme parks have been doing since they opened.

    Oh, I’m so happy that I found this! My late husband Tom E. Fitzgerald was the Imagineer who designed the Show Sets, the track layout and even the neon designs. He even personally spent hours taking measurements and sketches at the real Grauman’s Chinese Theater in order to draw up the plans to build the replica that housed The Great Movie Ride. He was so incredibly proud of the work he did for the Munchkin village and the rest of the section for The Wizard.Of Oz. Apparently getting things the way they needed to be for the Wicked Witch’s appearance was pretty intense, but he was so excited to be able to access the original Set Design plans from MGM to refer to. I’m sad this show is gone. I’m sad when any of Tom’s projects gets reworked, like the original ride in the Norway Pavilion at EPCOT called Maelstrom. Now it’s a Frozen ride. I did hear that they kept his track design…

    So... I'm definitely in the camp of those who will miss this ride, but the outcry and mud slinging at Disney has me surprised because up until the point where things started closing down at DHS for the new upgrades, every time I went, this was a walk-on ride because no one seemed to care much about it (unless it was raining). So why are people so indignant that Disney is replacing a ride that really wasn't that popular? Am I missing something?

    I'm so glad our family got to see this ride back in May on our first WDW vacation before its closing. It was such a great ride and I am very sad it has closed. For me, it was the heart of Hollywood Studios. I feel now that Hollywood Studios is losing its identity in its current theme. I won't be surprised if the name of the park changes at some point in the near future with all the changes that are coming.

      Depending on what car you were in you either got stopped at the gangster scene or the western scene. If you got stopped at the gangster scene you just kept moving past the western shootout.

    I've always been in love with films & storytelling and ever since I was little, I was always so fascinated with this ride and would be going along guessing which scene was from where. This ride actually introduced me to so many of the classics I'm so glad I have now seen. I should've known then that I would end up a film student pursuing filmmaking myself... And now here I am, studying these films and thinking back to how this ride played a part in inspiring me to create films myself which makes seeing this ride go ten times as heartbreaking. And now that I'm older, I see how truly stunning the animatronics and their movements are. When I was younger, they just freaked me out hahaha... I'll never be able to fully watch Alien because of this ride but I'm okay with that. It's one of those rides that my parents took me to so I could see the films they loved and one that I wanted to eventually take my own kids to so they could see the magic of films they may not even hear about. But now that's not a possibility...

    i appreciate The great Movie Ride as much as the next person. I will say this is probably the actual last ever ride on it because of the cast members taking a bow at the end. That seems to make it the most legitimate last ride. The over saturation of "last ride ever" videos on youtube is getting out of hand. Not everyone was on the "last ride ever" for the great movie ride. I rode it twice in the last 2 weeks it was open and recorded it for my memories. The face people are posting and claiming it as the last ride ever just to boost their own egos is annoying. No ones ride is better then anyone else. We all have special moments on that ride that we enjoy and it will be a ride that will be missed

    The Great Movie Ride was the first ride my family and I rode on our very first visit to Hollywood Studios back in 1990. Of course then it was called Disney MGM Studios. Very sad day indeed. I thought it would be a staple at Disney forever.

    Wow this is sad! They shouldn't had got rid of this ride. It was a classic. I remember i used to go to Disney every year with my family since I was 10years, and always loved going on this ride. Now I am 34, and went 4 years ago with my wife, saying this was always my favorite ride. When ever I went on this ride, it felt like going back in time for a little bit, and feeling like a kid.
