Hi, I'm looking at increasing my skill set, getting into pcb repair... micro soldering like you did here and what ever else I can learn along the way. If you are willing and have the time, could you maybe put together a list of what you see as absolutely essential equipment needed to get going with it? Or maybe some good resources to point me towards. I've only ever soldered plumbing and regular wire, so I'm not familiar with the terminology of the equipment to even begin searching for the specific machines and tools for this particular trade. I have a good set up glass replacement and whatnot but not for circuit board component replacement. In this video, after you tinned the contacts on the new charging port itself, you used another tool I didn't recognize that I'm not sure what you used it for. What was that?

Couple questions. I have soldered PCBs but am new to microsoldering. When you made a pillow for the contact pads it looks like you just put down flux and then flooded the solder but it only stuck to the contact pads. Was that b/c of the flux? I bought some flux for this repair but my solder is rosin core so I typically do not need it for my applications. And with my PCB soldering you normally would not flood b/c you do not want the solder to connect 2 contact pads. So does the flux cause the solder to only stick to the pads? Also, I only have a 1500w heat gun that goes to 700 degrees on low (1,000 on high). Am I alright to (carefully) use this on low to do the same thing?

What liquid material is added while heating the board with a soldering tool to loosen the port?
