I was an 11B in the Army for 8 years. Anytime we went out into the field, we were taught SLLS Stop, Look, Listen, Smell. Taking your time and being on the lookout for anything unusual is best than trying to be in a hurry.
Some things I’ve learned since I started hunting elk: Movement cannot be understated. Sometimes all it takes is an ear twitch to see something youd have otherwise missed. Learn to look through trees and bushes, and not at them. Speed = noise. Never walk in the open if you’re being serious, always check open areas with your binos before going aound their edges. List goes on. You get the idea. Oh and use your nose. Believe it or not, you can smell things like elk if you know what to look for.
I actually smelled a bull elk before seeing him outside Colorado Spring. I stopped before cresting a hill and thought I was mucking horse stalls. It was so strong. Got over the hill and he saw me. Had just pissed on a tree.

The human eye recognizes a monochrome image then fills in the colors. The rods form the monochrome, the cones, the color. Motion is first recognized in monochrome. That's why we're sensitive to it. (IFF is done in monochrome) Sound also indicates what kinds of things your stepping on and what kind of trail your leaving. If you're breaking lots of twigs you might as well paint a center line too Love the vid!!!!
I always wear natural colors, I couldn't tell you now many people walked up to me unaware I was only a few feet away. Being Native I have darker brown, red skin, helps me naturally blend in as well. When you did the video asking everyone to put their questions in the comments, I asked if you ever had any encounters with the Harry people who live in the forest. I have had the pleasure of quite a few encounters with them. They are masters at moving through the forest without being seen, and quickly disappearing if they are seen. They are also always watching, usually from a hidden position, so it is very hard to go into their territory without being detected. But I have been able to get past them a few times and caught them off guard, getting a sighting. Once one of them knows that you are in their forest, they all know. Great teaching video.
@@GruntProof why would I want to do that? I have no reason to hurt one of these people. Oh yeah, you want proof. If anyone really wants proof, I can take them out to where these forest people live and drop them off for a night or two, pretty sure they will have proof enough. Always a possibility, but unlikely that they will encounter one that thinks he needs to take back a body to his people, to prove that these funny looking, skinny, hairless creatures really do exist. Most of the encounters I have had with these people have been positive, or at least benign.
Bigfoots are smelly and poor. You should pursue leprechauns. If you catch one they must give you their gold by folk law. Just watch out for the bridge trolls. They’ll cut into your leprechaun bucks with bridge tolls.
Yeah Top! I noticed that I could spot a squirrel 🐿 hopping in the woods at 200yds,while a spike buck crept up behind me to 3ft.! without making a sound in the dry leaves! Amazing!
I’m sure that my best efforts will be outmaneuvered. For example, I didn’t realize how noisy certain polypropylene fabrics are, especially with tactical pants. Can’t be stealthy when your thighs are shouting “shoosh, shoosh...”! Also, you need to be able to outmaneuver infrared scanning. Having a wool/Mylar body length suit or bag may be the difference in successful evasion.
I hunted all my life, both with falcons, hot, and Eagles. Also rifles. I can walk very quietly. when I was very young, my dad taught us how to walk very quietly and slowly bringing the surround. I am right now trying to learn to camouflage and pick the correct colors and pattern and try to learn how to face paint. One hunting we always were blaze concerned about.
SOCOM veteran here. I like to look at the entire area I will be operating in, which may also include small villages and towns. Regions have vastly different architectures with different colors, so finding a camo pattern and color that works as a good medium platform to build off of is indispensable. I can touch up in my environment, but if I'm in Eastern Europe for example, going from woods to rubble of a village or military outpost made mainly from concrete ruins is a vastly different palate to work within. Having something that gives you a solid base to move between biomes and customize on the fly, along with gear choice like double-sided light/dark netting, can make all the difference in the world.
If you're trying to hunt on the cheap and don't want to spend a lot on camouflage clothes try clothes that are colored like the area you're in. I tend to wear a woodland camo bandana laid flat over my head so it hangs off my shoulders and secured with a dark brown headband and my clothes are usually dark brown pants and a brown shirt. With that attire I'm able to sneak up on rabbits close enough to grab them. Camo doesn't have to be complicated to be effective.
I saw a fellow talking go another. They were both standing about 10 yards from brush. What totally blew me away was that one of the two was invisible from his waste yo his neck!! I had to really try to focus on his invisible torso. I don' t know if I would have ever seen him, but he must have moved slightly. Amazing! The camo was ASAT. (All season, all terrain)
I was in a predicament one time where I was hiding in the woods and the bad guy was getting closer to my hiding spot. I was in a dried creek bed horizontal to his direction and I had two choices, I could’ve either stayed there and hope he didn’t walk right up on me. Or I could quickly and quietly bent down run down the creek bed to more bushes about 50-100 feet to his left... I ended up doing that, because I didn’t want him close enough to grab me if he saw me. Whether he heard me or not, and wether it was a good decision or not, I escaped. I made it to the bushes and looked back he was just standing there swiveling his head. Like he heard something but wasn’t sure from where. And then he eventually turned back and left... idk what you were supposed to do in an instance like that but what I did possibly saved my life...
The vast majority of people are right-hand. When you said the guy was headed northeast I wanted to scream PREDICTABLE. Don't let your natural tendencies dictate your actions. Deliberate, planned action when possible.
As a photographer who loves wildlife, the MOST important thing in my opinion. Is patience and being quiet. Imagine you're a wolf. Move slowly, be in shadows. And wait. Often cover yourself in leaves and wear similar colors. For example fall? Wear yellow etc.
@lostinthedesert-hp4bw Clearly you have never been through any undergrowth that has well and truely not been entered for years, when you do, you will wish you brought protection for all your soft areas
Depends on the ecology aswell, where i live thorny plants and weeds are what makes up most of the undergrowth, blackberries grow inches a day sometimes...If you have never seen a hawthorn plant, i suggest you look it up and tell me with a straight face that youd crawl up against one without any eyewear, thats just natural selection i suppose...

Might not be too late, doesn't hurt to keep accruing knowledge, america could definitely use your help at the border
@@ChandlerWhite-wk5pp I most certainly agree accruing knowledge 😉.
I would have to declare War on the U.S. Government if I went to our border.
Don’t have that fire 🔥 power.
Our Government has went Communist…
There will be another Civil War hear in America 🇺🇸…
I’ll be in this one for sure.
Until then stay frosty 🥶
When you did the video asking everyone to put their questions in the comments, I asked if you ever had any encounters with the Harry people who live in the forest. I have had the pleasure of quite a few encounters with them. They are masters at moving through the forest without being seen, and quickly disappearing if they are seen. They are also always watching, usually from a hidden position, so it is very hard to go into their territory without being detected. But I have been able to get past them a few times and caught them off guard, getting a sighting. Once one of them knows that you are in their forest, they all know.
Great teaching video.
Awesome!
Bring back a body next time!
Equine excrement.
Yeah Top! I noticed that I could spot a squirrel 🐿 hopping in the woods at 200yds,while a spike buck crept up behind me to 3ft.! without making a sound in the dry leaves! Amazing!
Crazy Top! 🥃🇺🇸
I am using every bit of your information. It is crucial in staying ahead of the game
Great info., Thanks for sharing.
🥃
Awesome information brother. I will be a regular now. Thank you for this valuable info
🥃 thanks brother!
Just found your channel. Great content. I'm subscribed, keep it coming!
very awesome vid, though I do want to say I saw your shoulder's silhouette within the first 2 seconds at 6:00
Great video.! I know some hunters that need to learn these points about concealment..
Hope they find it then! 🥃🇺🇸
Something tells me you did very well in the game
I do what I can 😎
I think the hunter/evader exercise is a good force on force exercise on both sides, and it doesnt even have to involve airsoft or anything.
Cranking out the good stuff Stoker... 👍🏻
Thanks brother!
Excellent educational content.
Ts helps planning on goin hunting for a good month or so wanted to be able to see if maybe solid colors would help keep me camouflage
Useful and straight-forward
Well made and informational material. Thank You!
Sean Kelly & Dave Catenbury have some great experience & greater knowledge in this field & be sure to thank them for their services. God bless
Dave Canterbury is a fraud.
Awesome thanks for the information always appreciate
If you're trying to hunt on the cheap and don't want to spend a lot on camouflage clothes try clothes that are colored like the area you're in.
I tend to wear a woodland camo bandana laid flat over my head so it hangs off my shoulders and secured with a dark brown headband and my clothes are usually dark brown pants and a brown shirt.
With that attire I'm able to sneak up on rabbits close enough to grab them. Camo doesn't have to be complicated to be effective.
Fun topic, hope to learn more.
On its way!
@@STOKERMATIC You're an early bird!
Closing your eyes for several minutes can really help bring out your vision if you have the time.
Loutenant dan!!! Ice creeeaaaam!
Great video! Thanks.
AWESOME 👍👍👍
Thank you for this video!
This guy is like the hardcore hide-and-seek master lol. I guess you're never too old to play in the woods.
Awesome video as always. I wish somebody would hunt me so I could practice some E&E.
🥃
i have always thought that would be a good game
Glad you made it!
Why was the bad guy after u, where was this, and why were u in the woods
He stole the man's wife
Excellent instruction ...thanks!
🙌🥃
Good basics. Thank you.
The vast majority of people are right-hand. When you said the guy was headed northeast I wanted to scream PREDICTABLE. Don't let your natural tendencies dictate your actions. Deliberate, planned action when possible.
Good video
Im learning.
As a photographer who loves wildlife, the MOST important thing in my opinion. Is patience and being quiet. Imagine you're a wolf. Move slowly, be in shadows. And wait. Often cover yourself in leaves and wear similar colors. For example fall? Wear yellow etc.
It's very important to have eye protection while moving through any brush.
Not if you keep your head up and watch your surroundings unless it’s extremely thick brush everywhere
Good this type of information is what we need.
Awesome tips!
This is useful info! Thank you and as always, appreciate your down to earth approach to your teaching.
What were you using for covering at 1:25 in the vid talking about shape?
If you meant what as I draping over my head, it's a sniper veil amzn.to/3izFeWw
@@STOKERMATIC I did and thank you.
Do you think it'll conceal well enough that no one would see you sitting on the couch binging Dexter?
😂🤣
I'm colourblind to the extent that my dream of serving in military couldn't be achieved but I still guessed it right away. 5:35
