- The classic ghillie suit is an old technology, which still has got it's place in the modern world. But new technology like the Ghost-Hoodie by GHOSTHOOD is something, that replaces a ghillie suit in some scenarios and performs even better.
Advantages of a Ghillie Suit:
- Durable
- A lot of vegetation can be added
- highly breathable (if build correct)
- padding and reinforcements on the front, elbows and knees for better performance in prone

Not sure about the fabrics you use, but something you missed that is a Ghost-Hood advantage; it is positive IR reflective. Meaning it doesnt change colour under night vision. Most civilian camo you buy, including Amazon ghillie suits, will make you obvious, some will turn you into a glow stick.
You can hand wash your clothing in Hunter's UV killer laundry soap that will take care of the problem I think

A ghillie suit matched to it’s environment, by being made of the environment, will always be more IRR compliant. Being made of what’s in the environment, will always blend into environment better, under any kind of light.

The Ghillie definitely has it's uses, but I'd take the Ghost hoodie almost every time for utility and ease of use. A "good enough" in many scenarios beats "flawless" in one, to me.
that clip of him walking out of the pine tree in the ghost hoodie elicited an audible "oh shit" from me. I went back and rewatched it and he was STILL hard to see even with prior knowledge of the location. Now.. the Ghillie in prone was literally invisible in every example. but for something as simple as a shawl with some dangly bits, holy shit that thing put in work
I fully agree with regarding weight saving and versatility of kits like this. More emphasis should probably be placed on this with individual kits
I have the smaller pncho and the gaiters. they take up as much space and weigh less than 2 pair of socks. I keep them in my "ever since 2020" edc bag.

I agree. I tripped once and snapped my bipod leg right off. It made target acquisition a bit more challenging for sure.

My urge to sneak up and yell 'OOOGA BOOGA BOOGAAA!' At people is simply too strong for me to ever do this.
Looks pretty useful for a bugout situation where you are making your way to a cache and you want something light weight and versatile that doesn't require a lot of prep to make it effective.

I have multiple ghost hoodies. Where I am at, I can go from hardwood forest to conifer to beach to rocky terrain all within 2 km. And of course, there are the 4 seasons to deal with. I don't have to worry about snowfall, but the vegetation coloration changes are a consideration. Good, quick snapshot video on the ghost hoodies and ghillie though. Well done sir.
Something interesting I noticed about the hoodie, is that the very light fabric waves quite unnaturally in the wind and it caught my eye often.
I think you could have done some prone shots of the ghost hoodie. But looks like a decent packable bit of kit, matched with a proper ghillie hood should be great.
Can imagine it getting tangled quite easily though.
The company sells all the bits and bobs you need create the effect. They even sell a 6x4 drop cloth
@@mikeemmons1079 yeah I've had a look, in the UK it seems like you have to buy from them directly. But have found similar cloth on Amazon that's at a reasonable price

I use a poncho made of camo netting with one inch wide, various length strips of different bdu fabrics . I make sure it is covered in ground debris and dirt and stained from the environment. Worn over a multicam top and atacs woodland pants , I krept to within 15 feet of a doe and 3 fawns munching on early fall blueberries. No vegetation used. I moved when the wind blew. I stopped when the wind stopped many years later and my knees still hate me for crouching that long.
If I can get that close to multiple deer , adding vegetation In an observant Manner would get me very close to a people undetected .
Good idea. The mk2 should have a split down the center with a generous overlap that can be fastened using small magnets. This allows you to quickly access your kit, deploy your weapon from behind the poncho, and you can flip it over your shoulders and low crawl if you need. The arms are not necessary, nor are the gloves. A simple veil would be superior to a mesh window, especially if you're throwing it over a helmet. The fabric is good for weight, but could be easily snagged on brush, and will move in the wind.
Ghillie suite is far better for snipers, however for hidden infantry especially for woods and forests because of ease of use definitely the ghosthoody this is a fantastic piece of equipment.

And it fluttered. Not many things in nature flutter. Most things sway and wave.
The light weight has its uses for sure but if you are going through thick bush, that would be a nightmare having it on as it would get caught on everything.
One of the biggest issues in a non-urban setting is my rifle. Please do a video specifically for covering your rifle in your position. And when say covering please keep in mind that you still need to be able to see your target area through the optic. Thank you!
just warp the netting around the rifle and put fine color matching mesh on front lens of scope to prevent glare and spotting obvious non natural elements ;) . painting your rifle into more "nature like" colors helps too. Coyote brown is far superior to black in nature, but shades of green or smth works even better.
@@ApocGuy I know you are correct. It's just the idea of painting something that I have a years worth of savings invested in causes me a bit of physical pain. I mean the scope alone took almost a year and a half to save up for. I just worry I'll mess something up.
@Kelly Collier All the SpecOps guys paint their rifles so don't worry about it. Also it is paint, if you mess up just paint over a mistake. Worst case scenario you can bathe the rifle in special chems to strip the paint, but like I said I wouldn't even bother with that. Once you paint it the only time you will want to change it is if you are in a vastly different environment.
@@kellycollier2026 If you are worried about painting the scope, that is fair. Garand Thumb shows how you can use a textured camo tape on it.
@@kellycollier2026 as Bigfoot said, camo tape or "make a ghillie suit" for your scope. Use open mesh to block lens reflections, mesh disappears when you are focused far out. And then typical ghillie instruction for the sides. Take care on the open action side of course.

Would the ghost hood catch and snag really easily on twigs and foliage if you had to crawl or more slightly also if having to move quickly would it be clumsy and get in the way with getting up with it being so baggy and loose fitting?? I don't know im just asking your advice, it does look like it would work well over a water proof camo poncho if you can attach it securely then you would be protected from moisture from the ground and from above (rain,fog,humid mornings or evenings)
All good fine information, But I prefer my Camo attachments. Ghillie attachments are great for size and ease of carry. 1 for my head to waist and the 2nd part from waist to knees. This allows for ease of movement and less to carry, plus can carry addons for changing settings. The camo hood you show I have used similar for base camp hide and caches.
In the Australian Army we were taught NOT to use natural vegetation as part of your suit as the unnatural motion actually catches the eye. We would use strips of scrim & hessian as they have no distinctive shape.

I used a poncho or ghost goodie for when I was cold or wet. Even made a small fire in between my legs under my poncho once. Its was super warm and drying. And you couldn't see the light from the fire. Just a little smoke coming out of the neck hole. 😆 but if we were moving in the woods, it had to be a ghillie suit. Cause the ghost hoodie would be shredded and torn apart fast when your low cralling in the woods.
That was super interesting. I know it has serious application for most people. Whereas for me it is simply interest & enjoyment and perhaps playing around in the bush with friends, and maybe see if they or the dog can find me. Thank you for the information and demonstration.

They both have their time and place. I think the ghost hood is probably more appropriate for average people in general since the ghillie suit is a much more deliberate in its use case.

Wow the last videos really show that if you have the ghost hoodie with almost any type of vegetation in front of it, it’s almost invisible. Even by itself it performs better than I thought it would 😳
But yeah probably only useful if you’re not crawling in it
Viper hood with proper camo is a way to really easily beat the eye. Afterall it is the gun/optics and then head/shoulders that are the most visible.
I've noticed that even just wearing plain green, brown and gray works surprisingly well. You'd think that atleast camo pattern would be required, but in reality as long as you don't stand out, people don't really notice unless directly looking at you. Bright colors and exposed skin is what gives you out most often. Even black is a bad choice for clothing.
When knowing to look for you in the ghost hoodie some of the hidingspots seem so obvius, but if i wasnt looking for you i guess it woul've worked realy well

6:59 holy cow. the ghost hoodie looks great near trees. i heard you started walking but i thought you were behind the camere (as a joke) to show us that the ghost hoodie cant really camoflauge you well (as seen in previous clips). especially in the wind, when the branches are moving.

Do you have a ghillie design for still hunting with a bow? Most factory produced 3D leafy suits are very loud compared to my thick burlap. But the burlaps snags and catches and pulls out over time as i move through or around thicker brush.
You should also target turkey hunters in your marketing! Not sure if you have turkey hunting where you're at, but turkeys have incredible eyesight, so really good camo is extremely important for this type of hunting, especially since you are on the ground with the turkeys, as opposed to being in a tree stand. Currently, a lot of turkey hunters wear leaf suits, rarely a few wear ghillie suits. Turkey hunting involves a good bit of walking around to get close, then you pick a hide spot, sit down, call a few times and wait for them to come within about 20M to 50M for shotgun, and about 10M to 20M with a bow. The season is in the spring and in some places in the fall too. I'm sure some turkey hunters already use some of your products, but it seems like a good market that you haven't tapped into yet. Keep up the good work!
If you had to pick one ghosthood, would you pick Brown or green? How well would the Brown work in the summer? How well would the green work in fall?
The sun is the issue having brown in green summer and green in brown fall. In the shade, not an issue. In bright sun, it'll stick out like a sore thumb.
I guess the current tier S is halo screen, some of the stuff we can get here in EU is amazing, Sprinter Custom Ghillie, Le Covert Sartorialist, these guys, make rly lightweight ghillies wich are amazing

Nice comparison - I opt for advanced woodland outfit or other patterns to match seasonal surroundings, then add a mesh faced boonie with shell stitching to quickly adapt to local foliage wherever you set down. Whatever is best for visual, audible, and other stealth you need. Less can be best.

Hey brotha man I do have some recommendations for your ghillie suit you need to break up your silhouette and make holes in your hoodie so light can pass through or else you will get a black spot as we say not too bad love the color and those other mesh I would not use them because I picked you up quickly because of a man shape in the woods and dark spots just a few tips overall not bad but I don't recommend the soft mesh I recommend modifying a military uniform and make it a throw over with clips to secure it much better way to hide and use a boonies cap with netting helps a lot

I would think the poncho look would be great unless it's windy. The rippling of the loose fabric would look odd especially if you're trying to blend into rocks. Like why is that rock waving in the wind like a flag?

Braking up the head and shoulder outline is the only thing that you need for camo !

Hab die Ghosthoodies schon länger im Auge. Concamo finde ich ein wirklich sehr effektives Muster. Kommt im mitteileuropäischen Wald wahrscheinlich nur Flecktarn Ran, nachdem was ich bisher gesehen habe.
Haupteinsatz wird bei mir jagdlich sein daher zwei Fragen in die Richtung: Wie ist der Ghosthoodie bei Bewegung vom Geräusch (wahrscheinlich relativ laut wie eine Kunstfaserjacke)? Einsatz in Feld & Wald möglichst das ganze Jahr nutzbar (klar Schnee fällt weg 😂), würdest du Concamo green oder brown nehmen?

Servus. Ich hab einen Poncho und kann sagen dass der völlig geräuschlos ist. Der grüne ist vielseitiger. Sobald nur etwas grün in der Umgebung ist funktioniert der hervorragend. Also die Tarnung ist wirklich genial.

The two problems I see is that
1. It doesnt break up the silhouette
2. It blocks PC access
And it flutters. Things don't flutter in nature.
Given the cost of these things...I will stick to making Bush Rags.

I was curious. Pardon my poor texting but with infrared for everybody's using now. Is a ghillie suit practical? Or does it serve a purpose? Cause your body will show up red if they are using infrared. I think I'm spelling that right. Kind of makes a ghillie suit obsolete, don't it cuz it shows your body heat
If there a wind how can you stop parts of the suit from flying and giving signals?
You want some of the fabric moving with the wind or it'll stick out when vegitation is moving

hmm it has advantages in being easy to pack etc but the ghosthoodie seems to light up a bit in its surroundings, might be the fabric or maybe its how the camera picks up the light but iam not that impressed vs for instance the fjelduken (might be misspelling it) in M05 or just a dpm rain poncho even.
Maybe it works better in real life.
