The tachometer is an hour meter too. It shows hours when the motor is off. No need to by the hour meter. When the tachometer works as an hour meter too.
Perfect timing, Sir. I have a new 9.8 Tohatsu I'm installing, and want to do the break-in correctly. This is exactly what I needed to know for the hours/rpm monitoring. Thank you.
Thank very much for your important piece. Nice mounting position. Great idea on side note recording hours. Your recording and brief interpretation was perfect!
I got the same hour meter last spring. Works great. I am ordering that tach gauge for this year. You sent me the link a while back for it. I have the same motor but not the tiller.
I still need to do a video on this one. I’ve always liked the idea of having setback for my boat engines and have used various Jack plates over the years to accomplish this, that’s one big benefit to a jack plate. Too much to type here but if you have any specific questions I can try to answer them otherwise I think I’ll work on doing that video next. 👍🏻
Off topic, but important question: Does the prop on the Tohatsu rotate clockwise or counterclockwise (looking from the transom toward the bow)? Odd question, but it is relevant to which side (starboard or port) I mount my transducer before I have my motor here to see how it rotates. The transducer engineer says mount it on the starboard side if the prop rotates clockwise and the port side if it rotates counterclockwise. Thank you.
@@commonsensesolutions6662 OK, clockwise. Thanks. Yes, I thought that was interesting also. Apparently, it does affect the performance of the fish finder.
@@shannonyork5300 I think that might be standard rotation for most small outboards because both of my jon boats I’ve had there is a transducer mount on the starboard side already. Perhaps if anyone reading this has a small outboard that rotates the opposite direction I would be curious to know what make it is just for reference. 👍🏻
@@commonsensesolutions6662 Yes, I guess that must be why most small boats that come with transducer mounts already attached to the hull are on the starboard side.
Hi there. I've installed the combo meter on my Tohatsu outboard. It was showing a zero. I ran the motor for 12 minutes and it showed 0.2 - perfect. I've been out for a few hours and now it's blank????? Any idea why it failed?
The combo unit has a battery in the back. Try installing a brand new battery. If that doesn’t work return it for a replacement. These things are made in China so maybe you got a bad one. Good luck! Let me know what you find.
@@commonsensesolutions6662 Hi there. I opened it up and can get it working if I push the battery down. Dicky connection. Hahahaha. Thanks for your prompt reply though.
I just do a search online and get them from whoever has the best price with shipping. A few of them I bought directly from the Tohatsu distributor that ended up being cheaper than the online prices. The 12 pitch is a Solas and probably the brand of props I will buy for this going forward. They are built really well. equal to or better than Factory in my opinion. I did buy one of another brand and it caused a lot of vibration, so factory or Solas seems to be the way to go for my motor.

You are welcome!
Tacho does hour metering as well. So only need one gauge.

Thanks for your video. I just bought a tohatsu 60 and was wanting to see rpm’s and hours. I will order one Thanks
Thank God ! Really helpful & clearly explained.
Many thanks.......all the way from London.

Excellent Nigel! I’m curious how long these hour meters will work since they are sealed units, time will tell! Keep a log!
Just got a Tohatsu 20 HP mounted on my 14’ Lund. Ordered the parts from Amazon so this will be next weekend’s project. Thanks for the video.
I have been wanting to do this for years on both my 2 stroke Yamaha. Thanks
Hi Joseph, you will be glad you did! Take care!
Is your tohatsu a 2 stroke or a 4 stroke? I have seen the installation calls for wrapping the coil instead of the wire for 4 strokes.
Thank you for the video, can you tell me about your jack plate and installation of it

So would you recommend just getting combo? Instead of two separate ones?
When battery dies on tachometer, does it saves all the data? Or does it resets?

That’s interesting. Looking to bow it rotates CW.

Where did you buy your props for the 20 hp
