My Favorite Sonic game is Frontiers I thought the game was good the story was nice the graphics were great the boss fights were Awesome but The game was a 10/10 for me
Just to give some context. Sonic: Night of the Werehog is a short CGI animation that was created to promote Sonic Unleashed (the game). And the little guy that follows Sonic is called Light Gaia, but Sonic calls him “Chip”.
FUN FACT - taking flash photos was used as a gameplay mechanic in sonic unleashed! at night time, some NPCs would become possessed and behave strangely. sonic could perform exorcisms on the townfolk by taking photos of them and defeating the dark gaia expelled from them!
This short was made by the same studio who made the Opening CGI for the game (Marza Animation Planet, a studio created and owned by SEGA themselves, Marza also made a good majority of the CGI cutscenes from many Sonic games, 06, Unleashed, Secret Rings, Black Knight, Colors, Generations, Lost World, Forces, Frontiers, etc. As well as working on the Live Action Sonic Movies universe too) And the purpose of the animation is to promote the game itself, it was a short released a short while before the game (which was released in 2008) for marketing As for where it takes place, this short takes place during the events of Sonic Unleashed, after the beginning of the game but before the end of it, since in the game Sonic explores the whole world alongside Chip (the purple little fella), at the start of the game Sonic gets his new Werehog form with the power of Dark Gaia's energy thanks to Eggman cracking the planet with the power of the 7 Chaos Emeralds, and at the end of the game he loses it with Dark Gaia absorving his energy back from Sonic and becoming complete, and then the form does not return in future games, we can assume Night of the Werehog takes place somewhere during the adventure of Sonic Unleashed while Sonic and Chip were exploring around the whole world
As a Fun Fact, Ghosts in Sonic has always been a thing since Sonic 3. They only realized the potential on them in Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Unleashed. Althought in both of those games don't have nothing to aport to the plot but they're there in Pumpkin Hill in SA2 and this promotional short and a secondary mission in Unleashed lol-
This animation actually has a sequel of sorts that was made VERY recently, called Ghost Tale I believe. It's done by the studio Marza Animation Planet and is on their TH-cam channel, they're the studio that made the original as well back in 2008. They do a lot of CGI cutscene work for the Sonic series, including 2008's Sonic Unleashed, which is the game whose intro you saw before (also animated by Marza) and the game for which this was made as a little fun promo tie-in movie. Ghost Tale doesn't have Sonic in it anymore but it does still star these same ghost characters.
15:33 No offense to the person in chat who said this but The “it’s just a bunch of cartoon characters why do they take it so seriously” opinion has always been a very close minded way of viewing things Because not only could you make that criticism about any serious series if you dumb it down enough Your also just cutting yourself off from meaningful and fun experiences you could have had with those stories just because the character designs put you off a bit In other words push your boundaries try new things And you’ll find even more movies games and series to love
Bassically, these shorts are small glimpes of what Sonic and chips adventures were like after Eggman Bassically shatter the planet apart in the opening of unleahsed like you saw. Theyre currently traveling all around the world to fix it
react to more sonic, i love the reactions, i believe night of the werehog was just a promo animation for the game sonic unleashed, the little guy with sonic is the companion from sonic unleashed and those ghost characters show up in a side quest. The game came out 2008, so the animation probably did too.
This made my night! Awesome reaction! Also because u asked, this is just a short film they did for fun to tie in with sonic unleashed. Sometimes sonic does these things where they release animations to tie into the games like: "sonic mania adventures" "chao in space" "sonic frontiers prolog: divergence" "team sonic racing: overdrive" and probably others I can't remember. This one was just a Halloween special which is perfect for this month.
Sonic unleashed has some fantastic animated cutscenes wether you watch the end cinematic or the in-game cutscenes unleashed is definitely peak with its story especially if you don't let the werehog concept bug you
Please react to more Sonic films. More specifically, I’d really appreciate it if you reacted to the Sonic Frontiers prologue animation: Divergence, and Sonic X Shadow Generations: Dark Beginnings. Both of which are extremely underrated and represent the best promotional material the industry has to offer; and no, that is not hyperbole.
I'm almost pretty sure it is canon, I mean, they treat those traits of the characters shown here are canon, mention it in other places, the animation got a sequel after 10+ years, the ghosts appear in the game, and even have a small cameo in the Sonic IDW Comics What we can assume is that at the end after the girl take a selfie with Sonic she returns to the house and they let Chip go, maybe Sonic turns back to normal and she loses interest on keep going with him

Uh... spoiler alert? lol 😅
@@SaiyanNinja99 Ah, yes, I suppose the info about “chip” was a spoiler alert. I’m sorry.
Chip is adorable 🥰

Oh I didnt know it was to promote I thought it was after unleashed released for some reason

In the beginning, on the ghost girl's pin board, you can see a Werewolf picture. Hinting she has a crush on werewolves.

the amazing design of the mansion is something that has always stuck in my mind since this first came out

You should react to Dark Begininngs for the upcoming Sonic x Shadow Generations game
YES HE REALLY SHOULD
Agreed, the best promo short we have for sonic v.v
Sonic Unleashed was truly an underrated game that got unfairly panned because it was cool to hate Sonic.
Looking back this would've been a nice DLC for Sonic Unleashed.

there's also a sequel to this animation that came out recently if i'm not mistaken

Ah yes.. I /knew/ the list didn't quite feel complete!
Btw those ghosts taking pictures for kisses they appear in the game inside extra missions that u unlocked talking to some npcs in post game completion

The events in the short aren't canon. The flying guy is Chip. Ghosts are real in Sonic's world.
The ghosts do show up in a mission in unleashed tho
@@astrovalleyzone7140
I'll rephrase that in an edit.

not anything to suggest it isn't canon
YESSSSSS
The little pixie guy is actually Gaia from (whatever game it was). Sonic becomes a werehog in that one too
