- Rhys Ifans: 'Never enough opportunities' to Welsh
Actor Rhys Ifans says "there are never enough opportunities" for the Welsh language in the theater and movie world.
"As long as the Welsh language is the question, more and more, please," he said.
He also said that there was a need for more investment in the creative industry.
He was speaking at Ysgol Plasmawr in Cardiff where 200 pupils from different schools had the opportunity to hear about his career and question him.
The Into Film Cymru charity - offering children and young people the opportunity to enjoy the media - who organized the event.
According to the well-known actor, a film as a medium is "an instructional tool so powerful for the reason being something that is watched in a group, family or class".

I will always associate Welsh with Tolkein and so imagine it to be the language of aureate beings. Truly a beautiful language, much maligned by small-minded fools.

Welsh sounds like a mix of French and Arabic
Very similar sounds to Arabic, and Latin had some effect on the Welsh language which is where the French connection may come in!
@@LonesomePrarieIt doesn't really have a French connection what so ever. Welsh is a celtic language. Their is a little bit of connection to Latin due to a roman settlement but it's not huge. The closest language to Welsh is Irish as they are also celtic but otherwise is a unique language only spoken by Welsh descendants. A version is also spoken in Argentina due to a Welsh colony and also in the Congo.
Why the Welsh subtitles, he speaks Welsh? Why not English, so we, who do not speak Welsh could also understand what he is saying. I mean, is it only for the Welsh, this video?

How funny you are! The only difference is that English a lingua franca and Welsh is not. Most people speak English, which is not true about Welsh.
@@42kellys I commented that to stop myself from spending ages on a longer explanation so you'll have to forgive me if I sound annoying and preachy. Quite simply put, this is a Welsh-language video for Welsh speakers, and as some Welsh speakers are hard of hearing, there are Welsh subtitles on the video. While I'm sure you didn't intend it that way, this idea that the Welsh language MUST be explained or made understandable to non-speakers is indicative of a wider unconscious bias against the language and has been used as a tool to diminish its status. It implies that a Welsh language video can't exist *only* for Welsh speakers because the language is not widespread nor important enough to warrant a whole video just for Welsh speakers. And while I can see where you're coming from in terms of accessibility, the tone of this comment does accidentally imply that Welsh is a second-rate language. Again - sorry if that sounded preachy, after all that banging on about tone!!
