Very helpful video. I changed my oil and filter today following this and it was pretty straightforward. I did manage to spill about 2 litres of old oil all over the road outside my house, as I forgot to remove the cap that allows air into my oil storage container, so it very quickly started pouring everywhere. Thankfully I had some sand that I was able to throw down on it when I was done.
Thanks for this video mate! I have a similar Bandit (my first bike) and I successfully changed the oil and filter after watching this excellent tutorial. Cheers!
Hey Dave those oil filter tools are a revelation I have a small collection going they just make life easier for a small cost...great video mate take care ..🖒
I used a genuine Suzuki oil filter for my 2006 GSF 650 a couple of weeks ago, and the instructions said to tighten it 2 full turns after the seal had made initial contact.
@@MotoMirius That’s fair enough, but the Haynes manual for these bikes also says 2 full turns, which I must say surprised me. It’s tighter than any other oil filter I’ve ever changed.
When I bought my B12 from a dealership I tried to change the oil and couldn't get the sump plug off - so I took it to my mates garage and they had to use an airgun to release it! Overtightened or what!
Good one mate. One of the basics of life !! I'm about to show my 17 year old daughter and her friend how to change the oil on their first cars. Maybe I'll do a video on it for laughs, although they will both probably tell me to, "bugger off with the camera." Ha ha ha !!
Hi David, great tutorial, the last plug, oil filter, air filter and oil change I did I really struggled to remove the oil filter as the previous owner had over tightened it. It tore like a tin can trying to get it off and I was very lucky to get it off. I also replaced it with the high flow filter, they also make them with a hex head on it so it can be easily removed in the future. All of the plugs oil filter k&n air filter came from Weemoto along with a new magnetic sump nut. I'm currently on motul oil at the moment, what do you prefer to use?
Thanks for that, much appreciated 👍. Filters can make your life a misery, especially when they are hard to get to. You can even rip off the hex head if over tightened. I’ve been using Rock oil for a while but Motul is one of the better ones. Magnetic sump plugs are great. There is an American oil I’d like to use but no UK stockists yet! Skäl. David
Thank you so much for this! I did my first oil service to my GSF650 Bandit and i’m really happy for safe money and did a better job. After lot of miles the bike still go perfect, thats it mean i did a good job :)
Hi. Do you know what car oil filter will be compatible? Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki can be compatible with Hyundai, Kia, Toyota car oil filter. I think Suzuki also has the same.
Thanks for that Mark 👍. Take your time and be careful with the oil drain bolt - it’s common for people to tighten it instead of loosening it and that can cause issues. Good luck. Skäl. David
honestly if it so stuck and youve got a new one, get a long flat head and just hammer into the oil fitler and try it upwards do it all the time, so much better and don't have to pay for that shitty tool
Yes, so long as you choose the right grade and a good quality oil. Most oil manufacturer websites will recommend the right oil for your bike. Skäl David
And here's what it looks like when it goes pear shape, 90mins+ just to get the old filter off that felt like it was welded on a Bandit. twitter.com/buck34_7/status/1055091383499976704?s=19
Ha. That’s not bad, the filter cartridge is still attached to the base. But it does make you wonder doesn’t it? Nice job to get that sorted 👍. Skäl. David

Glad it helped! And yes, I think we have all been there at some point!

Great job. Well done 👍
Thanks for these videos:)
I just bought a 2007 bandit650 with only 11,000 miles and in mint condition(it literally looks new)... Love this bike!
Thanks. It's a great all round bike and will do anything you ask of it. Good luck with it. Skäl David
Thanks, managed to change the oil and filter on my bandit. Thumbs up from me. I need to change the air filter and spark plugs next 😅
Good luck with those. Spark plugs can be a bit fiddly to get to but shouldn't be too much of an issue!

springy 2112 thanks for that. Certainly better than ramming a screwdriver though!
Mirius's Shed
ah yeah erm about the screwdriver thing...about 30 years ago .................lesson learned !!!!😭
Great tutorial Dave, Easy when you know how!
Cotti cheers. Well that's the point isn't it? It is easy and leaving it till you can afford a dealer to do it just damages your engine.
Thank you Dave, just needed this :)
You are very welcome Radovan! Skäl David

My videos are based on the Suzuki 2006 GSF 650 service manual. The risk with these is always over tightening.

@@catleugh Two full turns is the Suzuki default, but you have to use your own judgement as to whether you follow that.

Tip for next time put tinfoil around the pipes to stop the oil hitting them 😉
Now where is the fun in that? 🤣

Great video, could you tell me what size oil filter socket you used please?
Thanks, sorry for the slow reply, its a 68mm Skäl David

It sounds like you are looking for this www.oilfilter-crossreference.com/convert/HIFLO/HF138
What about the oil in the cooler? There is still old oil there now
There will always be some old oil left in the engine. If you check the oil cooler pipes they feed to the oil filter
Thnx for the tips
