You have some clear paths in your brain that other people don't...this is the most creative concept I've heard in a long time. I could listen to these all day. Glad to see your subscribers going up...
I didn't realize what I had clicked on, listening in the background. Then I was like, damn, this drummer is really playing well with these crazy rhythms on his backing track! Then, I looked and realized it was Alastair Taylor, and it all made sense.
I'm new to your channel. I found it through the Matt garstka video you did. I forgot what your channel did until I got about 75% through this video and was like, how does this drummer remember all these patterns so well lol. You are So seamless with your edit and composition. Cheers from New Brunswick Canada.
Am i anywhere near the mark thinking your jams are 'Fusion'? I'd love to find more music in a similar vein, but only have random Jazz albums that I've haphazardly stumbled across from when I started exploring music as a young lad. Some of your stuff makes me think of what little Allan Holdsworth I've heard and the Dave Weckl band.
Yeah I guess so. Depends on each solo, I like to have a bit of everything but there all kinda somewhere between jazz and progressive rock?? Anyway some cool albums to listen to: Dawn Of Time - Virgil Donati Quantum - Planet X Llyria - Nie Bartsch's Ronin Handmade Cities - Plini The Madness Of Many. - Animals as Leaders Leucocyte - Esbjorn Swensson Trio Have Fun :)
Ah, man. Thanks for the recommendations. I'll have a look for these once I'm back home. I hope you don't mind, but I ripped your tracks last night so I could listen to them while I make furniture at work! Looking forward to the next one. Cheers!
Glad you liked it dude. The first thing I do is go through the track and automate a click track. Then split the song up into different sections with markers, to give me an idea of how to structure the piece. This one was nice as it gradually calmer and quieter towards the end which was nice to work with. Then I just try stuff out from there. I try and pick up bass drum pattens, small themes on the cymbals etc. to get started. :)
No I've not transcribed any of the solos. I play all the electric guitar and bass. The horns and synths are software instruments. But yes, everything is recorded by myself. :)
Oh man this one might be my new favorite next to the Chris Coleman track. Dang I wish I was a good enough drummer to get blessed by your tunes! :) So good SO GOOD
yeah when I get done with this crappy head cold and get my recording gear working together correctly again I'm definitely going to hit you up in the next couple weeks :)
hah thanks - it's more about getting my gear to be not-dumb-all-of-a-sudden than it is burning out this stupid cold BUT, i think after screwing around today, I have a slightly more cogent idea of a 3-minute soiree' to throw your way. I haven't been this psyched up to do a drum thing in a good couple of years.
Wow. Have any of the drummers you've done this for seen and got in touch? You absolutely have to do the Grebster! he's quite active on social media too so he'll be onto that!
Matt Garstka, Robert Sput Searight and Marco Minneman have all been in touch and shown their appreciation, and really enjoyed what I did. Which is really nice! Yes, there's a couple of Benny Greb solos that I would love to write music to. I've got them on my list haha. :)
Alastair Taylor great to hear that they enjoyed it! Bennys older solo on his first DVD is one of my favourites when he slows the tempo towards the end and gets a puuuure groove on. Think it’s on the drummer world you tube. Got yourself a new sub anyway!
Holy crap he's good. He's got dynamic control up the wazoo. Plays incredibly fast heel down bass drum with a single pedal. He's clearly spent a lot of time getting a handle on all this.
Funny, I have seen the original video a couple of times and this was nothing like the music I had in my head. Good job though, just very unexpected music.
Thank you. Yeah, I think with this solo especially there's plenty of ways you could go with it. I'd really love to see some other people's takes on it.
You have such a gift for composition. Give glory to your maker for such gift. tks for sending the other track the other day. In everything you do give Him honor. Bless you. This sounds like it was meant for your music.... amazing. One day I wanna share a solo of mine with you. where can I send it? email?
@@AlastairTaylor77 1:34 fill with your music has to be the dankest lick I ever heard man. Two years later and I still get the chills with this shizz, hope you're doing well and still rocking on bro, you're a legend
You're an absolute legend my man. Absolutely outstanding composition on every level 👊
Thanks again mate :)
I seriously don’t understand how this is possible, and to be so outstandingly astonishing, much love
Thanks so much mate for the kind words, I appreciate it :)
Never get tired of this man. Unreal..
Cheers :)

it's amazing how you manage to make every video sound like the drummer is doing session work for you. absolutely unreal stuff, man. more!!
Haha thanks mate, glad you're enjoying the vids. I'll keep 'em coming :)
That guitar solo :D This elevates anything Mark did to new heights. I hope the drummers you write to are seeing this. It's incredible, in my opinion.
Thanks so much man :)
Dude you pump these out so quick and they all sound SOLID. Seriously, props man.
Thank you man, much appreciated. So glad you're enjoying the vids. :)
I just can't believe how much I liked this. Brother you are world class.

Thank you man, I appreciate it. Glad you're enjoying the videos :)

Impossible type of music created; So now we know that it is possible for geniuses. Bravo!

25 seconds in, and I could already tell that you nailed the electro-experimental-ism of Guliana's solo work. Great job.
Thanks so much dude :)
You made this solo make sense!!! Friggin beautiful!

I love these videos! Please, do not ever stop making these!

was crazy man. As we say on Brasil: Caray, cachorro!
Great stuff man.....you are really showing what some of these drummers might actually be thinking in their head! Love watching these....
Cheers mate :)
This is absolutely incredible! The best thing I have seen or heard in a while!
ever fighting for the purest dynamics
Yesss, he's a master of dynamics :)
This might be my favorite drum solo ever. So much finesse in your playing, and you have such control over the power and flow. Really tight man!
this is my favorite so far! Amazing music.
I listen to this once or ten times a day. DAILY. A day, every day.
Haha, so glad you like it mate. This one is one of my favourite solos for sure :)

insaneeeeee dude... keep it going..!!!
This guy is insane.
I love marks tshirt by the way
Nice coltrane tshirt
with the music composited, made me reallized that Mark nailed the timing perfectly. no even sloppy wtf. Did he implant metronome inside his body??
Yeah I don't know how he does it haha :)
Alastair Taylor anyway, forgot to tell your composition was brilliant too, love it
Amazing
Thanks :)
Awesome
Awesome. All your videos are fiery. But what happened tо the Chris Coleman video?
Thanks man. Sorry I was asked to take it down unfortunately :)
Such greedy people :( Really sorry the track was so cool.
Holy crap he's good. He's got dynamic control up the wazoo. Plays incredibly fast heel down bass drum with a single pedal. He's clearly spent a lot of time getting a handle on all this.
It seems that Mark was playing drum thinking about your possible composition
Haha thank you :)
Totally Amazing on so many levels! What about a Keith Carlock solos.... ?
Thanks dude! I've actually got my eye on his performance spotlight. But might be a while before I get chance to do it :)
freakin neat
Cheers :)
Whoa, got yourself a new fan. Sweet music dude :)
Scientism has infected music for years. One of the most intriguing musicians to emerge in some time
Do gretsch drums have deeper rims/hoops?

The bit starting at 1:24 slaps me in the face every time I watch it.
Hahaha, glad to hear it man :)
Fu.... crazy!
Thanks man, glad you like it :)
Well done. Btw, what is he doing with his feet at 2:50? Is he just enjoying the groove or does it have a musical purpose?
My guess is he is just counting time in some fashion
That makes sense, thanks
yeah its like tapping your foot on the hats but you doesn't want to have that sound so you just move your foot.
thanks for making his abstract shit palateable
Hahaha, thanks man :)
I think my ears just sqxxxted.
1:25 hardest stankface of my life
Sounds like hes doing a drum cover of your cover to his drum solo😂
Hahaha XD
Inspiring

shit. try playing this right now. you can't. i'm surprised anyone can learn it and replicate it. ten times harder than the black page.

You literally turned a boring nonsense drum solo into a cool tune.
What the fuck am I watching. And what's with the constant crappy backing tracks.
stupid style
