Advice for aspiring vTubers:
1. Being a vTuber is hard, but not necessarily harder than being a human. Specifically, it's more expensive, and requires setup beforehand.
2. Actually performing as a vTuber is fun. Therefore, they are usually as genuine, if not more-so than livestreamers. It's harder, if anything, to keep up an appearance.
3. vTubers aren't necessarily prettier or uglier than livestreamers (there are many ugly livestreamers, so no contest there)
However, vTubing gives people who are mute or unable to show their face the chance to perform in front of an audience, so it's popular among introverts.
4. vTubers are usually more of an alter ego than an entirely new person. Again, keeping up an appearance for so long is difficult. Many vTubers will reveal themselves eventually, and people often prefer authentic.
It's mainly because people like reveals and events in general. A successful vTuber will change their appearances and mix up their content to appease their audience. You can engage your audience directly, or you can stream alongside other streamers and vTubers.
It's easiest to become a vTuber when you are already successful, though, a good enough vTuber model or personality can make your success exponentially better. Either way, do it for fun. Don't force it, or expect it to carry you. VTubers aren't as carried as people think. If they are, it's usually VR chat vTubers or PNGtubers. That's probably a good way to test the waters if you're on the fence, something cheap like VR or PNG.

Vtubers first started out in Japan primarily as an industry that caters to male audience. It was popularised by Kizuna AI, which went viral in Japan, then internationally.
It was recently in December 2019 that Hololive, one of the biggest vtuber company out there, was founded.
It was originally planned as an girls idol group. If you didn't know, idols group are big in Japan, and it main audience are mostly lonely males.
Combining fictional anime characters with the parasocial aspect of youtubers and idol culture, AND the pandemic, making people very lonely. Hololive exploded in popularity. Similarly trending with Among Us, as both involve a social aspect.
To answer the questions.
- Vtubers, at least most of the ones in Hololive, are pretty. The reason being that most of their talents intended to get into the idol industry, and rarely do unattractive people desire to get into such an industry. I've seen their faces and some are even model level 9.8 / 10 kind of beautiful. But I can't say the same for independent vtubers.
- vtubers are not less genuine than youtubers or streamers. I can guarantee you they're a lot better than a lot of minecraft youtubers. Some things may not be genuine like their voices, and some may have a unique way of speaking like certain Anime characters.
- Do you enjoy seeing cute girls doing cute things? Then you may be interested in vtubers. Other than that, if you like Anime and enjoy watching streamers, then there are more comedian types of vtubers.
Nice to see ya trying out being a vtuber. As a vtuber for over a year now, I can say that yes it’s way harder to be a vtuber versus be a real life character. And no not all vtubers are ugly behind the model. Tbh a lot of vtubers have social aniexty and depression.
