Interesting, Christopher. I understand that sea run brown fishing is a bit exotic in the US. In my neck of the woodb (Denmark), it's the national sport. Cheers, Michael :0)
@@MichaelJensensAngling I think they are Seeforellen Brown Trout that were imported from Europe and stocked. You have to fish long and hard late winter/early spring to have a chance for one. I love fishing rivers that have no dams as you can catch so many different species of fish. I mainly use light spinning gear with small jigs. Simple and effective. Cool that a European fisherman uses Texas rigged style baits by the way.
Hi Michael , I also have Falkus's book, and a postcard from him in reply to a letter I'd sent him. I thought that I was unique in tying a medicine with the body stuck to varnish. I've caught very many sea trout on it. Great video.
Just realised that I've been tying this fly for over 50 years. I have the slim first edition of Falkus's book 'Sea Trout Fishing' on my shelf and it remains an inspiration to me. Falkus was a bit of a grumpy old bugger and lost several friends through drunken truculence. He provided the English commentary voiceover for many/most of 'The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau' documentaries.
Hi Anthony. Yeah, Falkus was in all colorful personality, and he lived a remarkable life. His flies and thoughts on sea trout will continue to inspire. Cheers, Michael :0)
Nice one Michael! I really need to tie up some colorful flies to brighten up my deary earth- tone boxes :) The old books are really treasures of information eh? Most of my library (Bates, Bergman, Flick, LaFontaine, Schwiebert and others) are from that time period. Recent additions, Popovics "Fleye Design" is an excellent book for anyone who ties bucktails and "Barr Flies" is good to have as well. I still want to add your book on Boobie flies. ...Had to smile at the mylar tinsel, I like it and use it but most of my streamers are still tied with metal tinsel. Yeah, I'm dating myself LOL! Cheers!
Thanks Hank. A bit of color can brighten up the day for sure, but those earthtones are great - especially in clear water. During spring runoff I often reach for the more colorful stuff (or black). Yes, books are important to me also. Best way to go back to the original flies or fishing techniques, to check if all the "truth" told on the internet is actually trustworthy ;0) I am old enough to use metal tinsel now and then myself;0) but seldom on flies, that might be used for saltwater fishing. Cheers, Michael :0)
Yeah, no problem. A lot of jig tyers use synthetics a lot. I don't - but that's just a personal preference ;0) If you use relavitely soft synthetic hair, it will work just fine. Cheers, Michael :0)
Thanks for your concern my friend. We are both ok. We haven't been fishing and filming much the last weeks. My dad died in april, and that gave us a lot of practical and emotional challenges to deal with. Things are looking brighter, though - and we will be back with more videos soon. Hope your and your family are safe and sound. Cheers, Michael :0)
I am sorry for your loss Michael. I have lost both of my parents. Mom in 2003 and dad in 2011 and yes it is a very emotional time and it changed me. I miss them dearly each and every day and holidays such as Christmas just aren't the same. Everyone always says it's part of life but it doesn't make it any easier. I pray that the good Lord gives you comfort and strength to get through this difficult time. May peace be with you Michael. I wasn't trying to pry in your personal life its just I have enjoyed what you and your wife have done with your channel and I was concerned. Live each day doing what you dream of doing and enjoy the memories.
@@alexACR3167 Thanks a lot my friend. Loosing a loved family member is always a rough path. Thanks so much for your concern. All the best wishes for a nice summer to you and your family. Cheers, Michael :0)
Thanks Shoja. Everything ok here. Will be back this fall with new stuff for the channel. Hope you are safe and sound as well my friend. Cheers, Michael :0)
Another winner Michael. That's an eye catching tie. Glad to hear he brushed out the folded wing, I've read in the past a salmon tier did the same with his multi fiber (married) wings. For me folded wings were easier and more economical :o) You mentioned a second fly by Falkus but I didn't understand the name, what was it? Thanks buddy.Have a great weekend. It was 70*F here yesterday, snow and ice almost gone! Cheers :o)
Thanks Joe. Yeah the brushed out wing. Falkus was a practical angler. The other fly I mentioned was the Sunk Lure, a large kingfisher/silver tandem fly, much in style with the New England trolling flies. I will get to that eventually... on the channel and blog. Temperatures in the 70 degree F. Whoa, it's still damn cold around here. Just above freezing during the day, and below during the night. Cheers, Michael :0)
@@MichaelJensensAngling Yeah I'd say he was a practical angler too, as well as an accomplished man. I looked him up and your Hugh Tube came up and caught my eye so I went to THE BLOG :o) No moss grows under Google ;o) I also went back to the Blue Dun Soft Hackle and commented on it's resemblance to the Tups. It's been a fun week for patterns and history. Yup 70* F, almost 60* today. Don't worry, colder temps and snow / rain in the near forecast locally. Have a good one Michael. Cheers! (:o)
Hi again Michael, thanks for the e-mail :o) I attached a pic of the "3 Grey Beards", hope you got my reply. Also I was reading your blog and the T.... Twister pattern flashed by. I laughed so hard I choked! When I read the piece and it's reference to the Rodriguez / Tarantino film I burst out again! Awesome job my man! Thanks!

I occasionally catch sea run brown trout in the USA. In the state of Connecticut.

This pattern works equally well with grey squirrel tail fibres as a wing.
Beautifull and relatively simple. Thanks for sharing 👍👍🇩🇰
