    I like to understand the more the distinction on when you need what grade of eye glass aka welding , tinted , or none...etc. I used welding masks when working with gas welding but this is more propane or mapp so not so sure the luminous intensity corrosponds to what eye glass quality. I like to be safe so i hold off on doing large applications until i am sure of getting proper glass. Anyway other then not explaining enough on the safety /glass part the skill / technique you presented pretty well ...Great video great looking beads.

    It would have been nice to see a close up of the beads at the end == but very clever thank you :)

    I'm not sure how these videos started showing up in my TH-cam recommendations. TH-cam keeps trying to find more hobbies for me than I have time for. Jewelry and glass beads aren't quite my cup of tea, but I do find it interesting to see how they're made. And I do like many of the patterns in the beads themselves. There's something about working with fire. I took an intro to blacksmithing class a few years ago. I think I went home with about a half pound of coal dust in my hair by the end of the class. I also have an interest in glass in general, and have almost gotten started with stained glass. I might have to explore other things one can make with lampwork besides beads.

      I almost forgot to add that this is the first lampwork video I've seen where a didymium filter was used so viewers can see the glass as the lampworker is seeing it. Thank you for that. I hope other lampwork videographers start following your example.

    What are the list of items , I need to make glass beads and to make necklaces? Where do you get Glass to make it? Do glass come in different colors? I wish there was a class here in Ludington Michigan.

    Very informative! Do you not have to anneal these beads in a kiln?

      She uses a bucket of vermiculite to finish cooling them off, no kiln.

      @islandgal500 Not really. Hands-on with an IN PERSON instructor is better for some people. 😊

    I'm confuse about the twisties, is that the way to prepare for making a multi color base for a bead? How much long of cool a down for two times bigger than that bead that she made? Wouldn't you need more of a shield for safety than those goggles? Maybe for specifically small details that you need to be closer to place right.

    i am just started and i'm having trouble with my bead release, and i'm wondering what i'm doing wrong. my bead doesnt stick and then slides and then i have a section of bead release on my glob of glass. second is where can i buy the type of vermiculite that you use.

    Thank you for the nice video, I really liked it...Some bead making videos talk about annealing, but there was no mention of it here. Is it not required or did I miss that part?

      We anneal the beads is a bucket of vermiculite. After a minute, so slightly cooled and no longer sticky, we bury the beads in the vermiculite and allow them to cool slowly to room temperature.

    Curious , I am wondering what types of eye glass your using i think i am over killing it with welding glass i can't really see anything out of them . Your eye glass seem more just sun glass. So for safety purpose what eye glass do you guys uses is it just tinted . Because its hard for me to know what source of light require welding glass as opposed to just sun glass or no glass at all?

      2:35 Better late than never I guess. Didymium glasses. Mine are darker and are not sunglasses. 20 years ago mine cost $60 but now can cost hundreds depending on the quality. They are needed to protect your eyes from UV radiation and sodium flare. Welder's glasses are much darker.

    You don’t put it in the kiln ?

    • @islandgal500
      @islandgal500 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Beads just need to cool slowly, 30 minutes is often enough, and I use a special insulated pad 'blanket' meant for this, but vermiculite can also be used (houseplant stores or places that sell supplies to grow houseplants). There are also small annealing ovens that will cool down itmes.
