I just got a Keylight Mini to go with my original Keylight. Very nice. The edge-lit light panels in these produce softer light as-is than my more expensive Amran, Phottix and Neewer gear (of course you can add soft boxes and all sorts of gear but it becomes clunky)
One detail you were missing (or I missed it?), which might be a thing for one or the other: Power consumption. I assume those have their own power supplies? Would be interesting to know how their power consumption compares to the more professional lights for example, especially in situations like this where you said there might be very small difference. While not necessarily too excessive, differences there might indeed make a difference, especially for smaller streamers who'd like break even on their hobby. Most generic power meters for wall sockets should be fine, no complex analysis or anything, just a few average numbers. :)
It would be interesting to see how you have positioned your lights (especially the Elgato Key Lights). I have just bought these lights myself and I am thinking about how to place them.
Thanks for a proper review. ALl other reviews I checked out just showed over-exposed horrible results. But I think you just made me look at camera set up too. Thank you again!
Hey Blunty, How would these work in a small studio space? Or does their design only benefit sitting approx a meter away on a desk? Seeing as you mentioned the light drop off at a distance. Thanks in advance :)
That's part of the whole idea. These lights try to disperse light and light up your environment equally without being like a spotlight in your face. It's not that different from having a white window on your desktop with maxed out screen brightness. Overall it's certainly not magic, it's just a ready to use and complete solution if you don't want to fiddle around. The more classic approach would be having a light bulb reflected by a white umbrella like screen.
Elgato's key light software for Mac and Android are not great. I bought 2 key lights but was only able to pair one with my Android, and neither with my Mac (it couldn't even detect my network, let alone connect to it).
Dude awesome review!! by far my fav. Does anyone know if buying an extra elgato key light for a rim light is over kill? i have my 50$ ring light that wont be of use when I get the Elgato Key Light. Im debating using that as my "rim light"
What are those blue and purple lights you use for contrast? Would love a link to the little purple one especially. Would you consider doing two of them (blue, both sides of face) :)
Love to watch a fellow Aussie get straight to the point and say it like it is. Nice work mate

Great video !
Thanks for the tips !
How do you play games and things with big lights pointed at your face all the time? I feel like that would be super distracting
