  • I went on a cross-country ski adventure extravaganza! I just started cross-country skiing, and it's become my favorite winter sport, but I think it's still pretty underrated! So I busted out the nordic skis and hit the cross-country trails with my dog and crew.

    To begin with - You are just lovely. I love your goofiness if you don’t mind me saying. I admire the editing (big up film editor!). I’m in love with the videos from my head to toes. The videos are of course very informative (a lot of good hints, thank you!), but the gosh darn is just… I’m dumbfounded.
    About skiing (cross country skiing is basically called just skiing here in Finland) - You did good. I guess you haven’t done it too much, but you did really good. Hint: You could use your midriff / abdominal muscles a bit more, and maybe have longer kicks, further back. Consider also bringing your hands closer to your body. All who wonder if they could do it, just go out and do it. It’s fun. You’ll fall couple of times in the beginning, but it’s snow, it won’t hurt. There’s a point when you get the idea of smooth synchronized movement of hands and the feet combined with the midriff and then you’re going forward in a pretty fast pace. And no, I’m not a skiing teacher either; I’m just a Finn who has learnt the skill when I was a kid.
    If you and your crew ever consider taking your show abroad, consider Finland. It’s a lot like Washington or Canada, but there’s a lot less harm of the bears. We have a lot of reindeers though, in Lapland, they won’t try to steal your food. And Santa Claus, he doesn’t either. And not too much covid-19 - we’ve been lucky. Try to imagine a goofier country than any of your videos - that’s us. The midnight sun is just around the corner, a lot of summer trekking to do.

      The diagonal stride becomes second nature after a while and the swing of the back leg, off the snow in the air drives your next kick. Getting proper lessons is crucial or bad habit will become ingrained and the efficiency of XC skiing becomes lost in that case. Here in South East Australia we have XC skiing but the XC ski season is quite short and unreliable at times. XC skiing amongst ancient Eucalyptus Pauciflora trees is unique to Australia.

    looks like a nice groomed trail One must place their hand through the straps so as to have more effort from the wrists instead of gripping the poles tightly and expending energy on gripping the poles a more relaxed grip

    • @sacura605
      @sacura605 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought u weren't suppose to ski with hands through the straps.

    • @DominiqueB
      @DominiqueB 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sacura605 _Downhill_ and backcountry skiers often take their hands off the straps, to avoid injury to their wrists/shoulders if a pole tip gets caught under a tree/rock in the snow when skiing in close quarters and wrenches the arm back, or if they crash at high speed, and the pole stays connected to the arm and twerks it around. On the other hand (ahahah), when cross-country skiing (or snowshoeing, or hiking with poles), you should slip your hands through the straps from the bottom before you grip the pole, trapping the straps between the hand and the grip, so that you can push against the strap when pushing back, without even holding on to the grip, which is a huge relief for your forearms.
      It also lets you push waaaaaaay back when you're not holding the grip, to full extension of your arm, which adds a lot of power to each push.

Good times! Thanks, Miranda! :)
