I don't know if I've missed this, but is your problem only with the loot crates which give advantages etc, or also the loot crates in games like overwatch where its entirely cosmetic? I agree though.
Wrong, your grandparents elected trump. They have been ruining the country for about 60 years now. Or have you not noticed that most people over 60 are both spineless and completely incompetent. MOST, not all.
DAMN I love your rants! There are just so few people these days with an actual spine, saying what they actually think. And I'm sick of all the platitudes and the "But before I say ANYTHING even slightly critical let me just reassure you guys how much I love this game/developer/publisher and how much I support them at least 5 more times, because I'm terrified of negative comments". Your honesty is very welcome and refreshing.
Single player, linear games telling a story are no longer allowed due to market trends showing that it's easier to make a multiplayer game with micro-transactions that will keep retards coming back and spending money over a long period of time. FUCK that art of game making, FUCK telling a story and FUCK making a good game!
Well fecking said Mack! I stood up and gave my screen a standing ovation to you sir... One is also slightly pished from a good bevy but keep speaking the truth my honorary Jock Gamer friend!
Great video. Absolutely love the way you're speaking on this. I'm pretty sure, sadly, that this is going to be a circle that won't be broken anytime soon. Loot boxes boil down to exploiting the young and the gullible to highly addictive gambling. Sad stuff, man.
It's really sad that you don't have 146 MIL viewers instead of thousand, so the message could be spread even wider. I shared it but I believe most of my friends and so on already have your back on this! Love you and what you do! Keep up the good work Mack!
Well, if I'm anything to go by, the crash should have been here by now... I'm not buying this kind of crap and never, ever used microtransactions! More people should be like me! [half joking, but not about not buying this crap]
interesting thought, the gaming bubble of 20XX xD well its either this or the mobile gaming problems will soon be gaming problems just in general. aaand i'm gonna need a new hobby
there is no crash coming, the gaming industry is making more money then hollywood each year.. and that amount of money is rising each year aswell. Dont kid yourself, people want to be in that dream no matter how much it costs as we've, as a people.. as humanity, created a world people dont really want to live in anymore. Thats what i think lays at the very basis of all of this.
sounds about right. they have to be making mad cash with those newfangled business models, for them to be in every bigger game. in the end money talks and as long as it's talking, more and more of this bowel movement of a concept finds its way into all types of games. people who dont partake and pay up, will be along for the ride or shift focus on other things. it's cool that people like mack and jim sterling are speaking up. but honestly, history shows that predatory tactics like whats happening right now with microtransactions in games, just work in the context of a company. and somewhere, people seem to vote for that shit with their wallets. or so they make it seem at least
Mac i get that we shouldn't buy these games to support them, but we still want to play games. You still get to play every game (yeah i know its your job too play games) . I'm a big gamer but none of my friends are. They buy all the big AAA games and don't even realize that they are getting fucked over. They just see the good graphics and pew pew X ray vision. AND THEY LOVE IT! That's why nothings going to change. Most of the AAA crowd don't look up reviews and if they do its by IGN or some big company. Edit: The SWBF 2 trailer has 42k likes and 1k dislikes.... yeah nothings changing anytime soon...
Hack Miyer want to play games? There are loads of awesome indie games, or buy big games on steam sales so they get paid shit. Or best of all, pirate the fuckers
While not buying the microtransactions is great and all; even just buying the game only is still supporting the companies putting this crap in the games.
The same happens to me, my friends think assasins creed and fifa are the best games out there. The cant get past superficial aspects nor do they want to. Ignorance majes people happy i guess
Woupsme problem is that vast majority of people who bought it were clueless parents buying a game for their kids who wouldn't shut up until they get the new call of pewpew
In many years people that have grown with all this loot boxes, MTs and shite games will look back and say: "Remember when games were good?, we had loot boxes, skill progression, xray vision, skins, we could even pay to beat the game faster....now it costs $20 dollars to upgrade your graphics from medium to high and $40 to ultra + shadows with the "High Octane Graphics Elite DLC". "
You can blame "Whales" for this. They are only the 1%-10% of the audience but provide over 50% of the company's income. Thus games are designed around these "Whales" which include adding more micro-transactions, quantity over quality and gambling instead of appealing to the masses. Unfortunately this minority will always exist and we cannot do anything about it.
I have literally not spent a single penny on EA, Activision or Ubisoft in I cant even count how many years it's been. Most of my purchases are indie and retro games. There is still such a gigantic library of old undiscovered gems I'm satisfied to play these while the industry goes under. I've got my life boat ready.
it's pretty funny but for a "gamer" this is the first year i've ever bought a current generation videocard. i normally refuse to buy new AAA games (after so so so many disappointments), so i'm a good 3-4 years behind the curve anyways!
LongHaired Yeti // There's only a handful of modern games that I find decent, but to me gaming began to die from about 2009-2010. Now I mostly get older games I missed out on for my PC and I've gotten in to collecting retro games and consoles.
Obviously the gaming industry is in a very bad place now, and a crash would be good. But the sheer amount of sheep and gamers who just dont know how good games can be, or just don't care is easily enough to make the investors happy for years to come. I haven't seen a decline in profits for AAA games, so it's nice wanting a crash but I don't see it happening. I think we'll need to be content with the smaller games that do have a genuine goal to be good games.
Alex Gambrel yeah sadly alot of people suffer from instant gratification and think the game is great when they only play it with friends. play it by urself and u will see its pretty meh. not bad but not amazing.
I don't think the people that defend this kind of stuff in games are idiots at all. I think they don't have much else going for them, I think they don't know known any better and I think they love the thing that they are defending. I don't even think of them as Fan Boys, I think of them as Sad Boys. If you are, for example, a 12 year old who's only been gaming for two years, you wake up, go to school for 6 hours, get bullied, come home, eat dinner, listen to your parents scream at each other, go to bed, repeat, repeat, repeat, and the one thing you have to look forward to in your year is a single game, and you get that game, and the one thing you've looked forward to for your whole year, through all the bullshit and mundanity of your life, is a game that people left and right are tearing down, how can you as that 12 year old even begin to let that happen without defending the one thing you have left? Fair enough, that isn't the case for everyone, but I'm willing to bet a vast majority of the people defending this kind of stuff aren't in the best of situations, or they wouldn't be so invested in a single game. You're absolutely right in saying that the current system that is running rampant among games is corrupt, twisted and deprived of any love or care whatsoever. But I just worry that people will continue to fund these systems if they feel attacked. All in all though, great video and you did a great job in explaining how things could be better.
This is a very thoughtful comment that has a lot of truth in it. Typically people who are extremely invested into a game generally have something unfortunate going on in their life and that emotional energy is being redirected to a game as a defense mechanism. People who don't have much cling to what they do for shear life. It's unfortunate that a good portion of them never got to see some of the greats. My favorite was battlefield 1942 and it went on for years until they finally shutdown the servers. If some of these fanboys grew up on stuff like that they would have a better perspective on what is worth defending. Boycott is a practical method though it is difficult to do when you have a cult following fan base. A great method is to motivate someone who is independently wealthy to come into the market and begin to release solid, modern, yet old-school quality of games. By doing this they will achieve considerable market share and some of the big guys will start to re-figure their methods if they are consistently getting blown out by this new guy's group. A medium group of people who could build off passion and dedication could do it too but it is hard to get enough people together that aren't enslaved by money. Imagine someone like Elon Musk put his mind toward developing the next Call of Duty. Thankfully he's busy trying to get us to other planets before we nuke ourselves. Hell with Mack's dedication of supporters I wouldn't be surprised if he could somehow spinoff a little gaming development company. With his attention to detail and the commitment of his patreons I bet in 5-10 years time with consistent effort he could have a system of producing games.
I can testify as a former addict that video games were my one real escapism when I was a young kid. They were what I looked forward to at the end of the day and whenever my Dad took them away because that was his asshole method of disciplining me I remember becoming almost physically sick with depression because it felt like games were all I had. I couldn't imagine being a kid today and having these sorts of games to look forward to, the thought is depressing.
It is conditioning in the sense that it makes it easier to produce games since the expectation has been eroded. I liken it to lies by omission. If you were raised only being shown 50% of something then that is all that exists for you. For those folks they can't escape the matrix unless someone shows them clearly how good games can be. The idea with proof in a format that is accessible and in a way that they can understand. Until then it is a foreign concept. With the schoolyard talking about the latest hogwash it makes it more difficult for someone to talk up some previous game that may be better but just isn't current.
+Mcfakename Sir lol it's funny how you talk about fanboy, conditioning, lie by omission, only being shown "50%",widely accessible proof and the "matrix" before talking about your melon musk and Mars mission+nuke...What a fucking meme.0/10! If you are interested,go check eyespy channel,he have video where he show the CGI.It's quite a meme indeed. i recommend this one for instance ; th-cam.com/video/EdovKMcYCqo/w-d-xo.html
i agree with you mac, and ive been not falling for this bullshit for about a year now. No add ons, no dlc, no season pass no loot crates at all, now ive even stopped buyin triple a games altogether. tired of buying crap games. love ya mac.
Mack, most movies/games spend 2-3x the production budget on advertising. Not saying that it should be that way, or that its right, but it's how they all do it.
AAA industry now is in bubble. Every games are homogenized, they're copying each other. Soon everyone will be playing multiplayer and GaaS type of games such as destiny. And there will be no market left for new game
What a glorious goddamned video. I know you feel like it falls on deaf ears, and a lot of the time you're right, but I truly believe that even reaching one person, two, a handful, etc.. can really make a difference, especially when it comes to very young gamers that are likely the target of this level of manipulation. That's how you have to fight against bloated corruption like this with billions of dollars and a massive mouthpiece - little by little. Keep on, Mack. You are hands-down my favorite reviewer and personality on the Youboob and one of the truly honest voices out there. I'm a bit older like yourself, and your integrity reminds me of reading PC Gamer in the 90's and enjoying the quality of journalism and games we used to have. You are a precious relic from a sadly bygone era, but we can still fight to bring it back.
remember a big reason why ptw has got so bad it's cus they target kids that don't understand how shady it is , it's been going on so long now that a lot of those kids are now adults and just seem to accept it..
Mack you speak my mind everytime, I am 32 years old and I want to cry too about how fucking stupid the people who live in the world right now, so much ignorance, I feel depressed.
These are Casual players. And there is a lot of them, I'm pretty sure more than us, gaming connoisseurs, so to speak. They don't have much time for gaming, but they do have money. Money to buy any hw they want, money to buy any game they want. But they don't have much time. So they're actually glad there is pay-to-win mechanics, meaning that they can launch a game and get all the pretty stuff they want for cash (which they have enough of).
Always a pleasure to have my opinions voiced by you Mack. Please keep providing us with such relief and don't worry too much about reviews vids, your pace is very good as is already.
During BC2 DIE gave out free DLC constantly (new maps) while saying they would never charge players for new maps. Well we saw how that turned out with their next game, BF3.
I've been out off Star Wars battlefront by the supposed crap play in the first game and the loot boxes in the second game. I was put off the lord of the rings game for the loot boxes too. put comments on developers videos marketing games telling them loot crates etc have stopped you buying them. put pressure on games reviewers and journalists to ask more difficult questions and call them out when apparently take bribes for reviews.
Honestly, the budgets for big triple a games do not make sense anyway. A lot and I do mean a LOT of money is wasted. Not just on marketing, but more so on actual development. Quite a lot of games now use Hollywood actors for voice-overs and they often aren't even that great (read: literally phoned in and edited in post-production). Yet... it does account for hundreds of thousands of dollars wasted.
I mostly agree with the DLC. But one game comes to mind when I think of worthwhile DLC, and that's the Borderlands franchise. Pretty much every DLC (especially Tiny Tina's assault on dragon keep and claptastic voyage) was awesome.
"Ima Call Of Duty fanboy! Gonna buy me some loot crates to see if get me mums arm!" You are the funniest TH-camr I've met! I agree wholeheartedly with your comments/arguments.
Bang on the money again Mack. Fucking greed has been killing this PC games market more and more each year. The price of PC games was always a pro over the consoles because you could get the same game for 29.99 tops but 45 - 50 quid for the consoles. NOW regular PC games have equalled console rip off prices. I have a new Steam voucher in my inbox offering me 50% off of Civ VI digital deluxe. IT'S 70 fucking quid for a PC game? They are offering it to me now for 35 quid which is still over the top as the reviews are all shit. 70£. I love Civ, but I wont be touching this title EVER. Fuck the shareholders, I won't even get it for 20 quid. They can fuck off. Civ was once the top selling PC game. Then they started releasing on the XBOX and turned it into a cartoon of a game, but it was console price AND since arriving on that platform, Firaxis prices have rocketed. fuck 'em. Thing is so many PC players now have come over from the toy machines and they gladly pay console title prices for PC titles. I'm fucked off with it all. If no-ne buys the shit, then the prices will come down, and they'll get the message that we're fed up with paying for only portions of the game that has been stripped. All the games are at it now.
The key is to buy things like prey. Seriously. It's everything that should fail in today's market and it's fucking amazing. Breath of the wild is too. Vote with your wallet. The more games like battlefront that flop the better off we will be.
Mack.....I am the choir and will spread the word of a wise man to all I know in all the lands! You get it! You get it! You get it! By the way, April is not my name, I use my wife's google account on TH-cam. My name is Steven and you are a true clear voice of reason in the gaming industry today. Please keep the education of the masses up!!!!
its the younger generation that i think to blame i think the reason behind it is they got into gaming by playing those shitty free to play games on their phones and ipads and start buying micro-transactions using their parents cards, and now its moved into our commercial AAA games its sad they weren't around when you paid for a game and you got the full game but now that online is out developers dont need to get testers in and fix the bugs they just use these "Betas" where the game comes out in like a month or even just a few days there the testers and the devs know that they can just fix the bugs that get reported and just patch it in, 15 years ago that wasn't the case they needed to make sure the game was pretty much bug free because they couldn't patch it in later as most people didnt have online back then, one of the many cons of online gaming.
Absolutely spot on Mack! I've never Pre-Ordered a game and I've never bought a Loot crate in my life. Yet my gaming experience is still rich and full of memories. Its the Snack back wearing, Monster energy drinking millennial bellwhiffs who steal their mothers credit cards that we have to blame
Really appreciate your honesty Mack. I don't think there's an another reviewer as honest as you, and you're right. This whole gaming scene sucks, it wasn't like that in the 90s during the LAN parties. People knew what was good, they had criteria. Nowadays, they either don't know or don't give a shit anymore.
My problem is that I just really want a good Star Wars game with a single player campaign. I'd pay, say $100, for my perfect Star Wars game - great many hour single player campaign with cannon story, perfect starships with great controls, and some awesome multiplayer. I don't think I'm alone in this. Something like this would make the shareholders a lot of money, make a great game, and even set a precedent for more expensive games. Why can't this happen?
I have played the original Battlefronts, and the two KOTOR games, and the Old Republic MMO, and the Jedi Academy/Outcast games. Oh, and the two Force Unleashed games which weren't very good. I'm just saying I don't think it's the money that fans are upset about I'm saying it's the quality of the games.
It's because of Konami. They were the first to discover that digitalized gambling is the next big thing and that not only does it maximize profit margins but it actually supercedes all of the revenue that gaming would accrue annually and it requires far less time and effort on their part. All of the current publishers now want to follow their example and are moving closer and closer to establishing fully realized extortionate virtual casinos.
I totally agree. The unfortunate thing is, even though the corporations are just greedy business men who only want money, I blame the consumers for getting lazy and not doing research or thinking for themselves. It is their fault that the industry and many other industries are in the state they are in and even I am guilty of helping create this monster. But we can still change it if we just for once, talk with our wallets.
Personally I thinks we have two option when it comes to this. One is if we pirate the games of these studios that might make investors feel they is not enough return on investment, but this might really hurt the industry instead of chasing away the investors and the other is if we put money in the indie game scene, maybe invest in engines that will help indie developers better or a engine that will give them the tools to make make triple A like games but with little to no effort from the indie develops. Cause what I have seen is that if you are a indie developer you have a lot of costs that you have to deal with in order to make a good game which in turn makes indie developers take cost cuts that hurt their games.
Mack, I just wanted to say thank you so much for doing what you do, and please keep doing it! Believe it or not I know the struggle Mack, because I've literally lost friends over this topic. I've literally had a few people get so angry at my dislike for triple A title business practices and refusal to play the flavor of the month money grab garbage a few people have stopped talking to me over it. It's downright fucking awful, people have no principles and this is sadly where capitalism has failed in our modern era, because the consumer is so stupid he will shell out his money for garbage, and then even defend it! They are so brainwashed they will call their friends names and "haters" for not liking the flavor of the month shovelware. Please keep spreading the word Mack, please never change, I couldn't be happier to find a person who reviews games that has integrity. I respect you more than you know Mack. I wish I could have a few beers with you and talk games my man!
AH I love your work!! Don't stop making videos please. Best reviewer ever & that bell breaks me up :P. It's nice to hear an honest perspective for a change.
Knife Guy Gamer just want to see his thoughts I bought WAW and man it's campaign is fricken amazing and so immersive you felt as if you did everything zombies was good and so was the multiplayer they actually had flank routes designated spawn points and recoil if he reviews it after cod ww2 comes out he would probably get mad at cod ww2 after seeing how fun the old ones were
"People will do anything for money now, money talks" Mack "Moneytalks! BS walks! Come on, come on, love me for the money! Come on, come on, listen to the money talk!" AC/DC
I dont care how passionate they are or how great the Publisher is, Zelda was straight up boring for me. I actually legit fell asleep twice trying to play it. I genuinely don't understand the praise for it. Each to thier own and all that jazz though. I'll disagree about the "good games are rare these days" though. I seem to have no issues finding and playing good games.
AGREED console gamers dont even understand the power of a mouse with more than 3 buttons. They dont even rebind their console controls to better fit their individual dexterity limits. Fucking trend following scumbags.
Neophysis the loot boxes came from MMOs first Mobile games took it to the extreme And its just not not console gamer are to blame PC gamers have just as much blame
Mack I have not bought AAA at full price in over 10 years. COD MW was probably my last AAA game bought at full price (minus Blizzard AAA overwatch and D3) The games do not interest me same shit different day. Never bought a DLC. Never bought a lootbox...
Excellent rant. We do need a crash, but we have a long way to go. The Battlefront II trailer has 145K upvotes compared to 4K down. Everyone with a care for the future of the gaming industry, I encourage you to explain how boycotting AAA titles can bring some good.
I used to play COD and Battlefront. I will NEVER EVER EVER buy those games again until they stop the DLC BULLSHIT you have to pay for. YOU PAY FOR A GAME ONCE, NOT 4 TIMES A YEAR THEN GET THE NEXT ONE AND IT BEGINS ALL OVER AGAIN. FUCK THAT!!! I will vote with my money...
In the 80's 90's and mostly trough 2000 we had great games with even less computing power. Imagine what greatness could they achieve now with current computing power and a 60 million budget...
I fully agree with what you're saying about loot boxes Mack, I believe that casual gamers are the ones who will put more money into loot boxes and unfortunately they're the harder ones to reach! Also, gameplay of the single player campaign has been released
I actually agree with this. Growing up I loved games and dreamed of being able to work on my favorite games! But now that I'm okder I have also rwalised how corrupt the gaming industry is and I want absolutely no part of it. I find this sad that something I wanted to do as a child is no longer a tangible idea. Unless I start making my own games.. That's always an idea.
Most people born after around 1990 wouldn't recognise a decent game if their life depended on it. Us “oldies” born in the 70s and 80s have grown up with (mostly) good games and undoubtedly ground-breaking games. It's a crying shame that the console generation literally don't have a scooby about the genesis of great games. They've grown up in world that dictates that great graphics equates to a great game. None gamers and what I would term “new” gamers (ie. those mentioned above) think that graphics are everything. They aren't. Graphics are simply the icing on the cake of a good idea. Without a good idea, great graphics mean zilch; the game is the literal be all and end all. A crap game with great graphics is still a crap game. A great game with crap graphics is still a great game. Keep up the great work Mac. For those of us who are old enough to really understand games, to fully understand their origins and who have been there from the beginning, to see this modern day miracle descend into a cesspool of corporate greed and mediocrity, I salute you for calling it out. I only wish more would do so. When discussing these things, I am often reminded of a quote from the late, great, Sir Terry Pratchett, he of the Discworld novels: “Young men think that old men are fools; however, old men know that young men are fools.”. Never a truer word was spoken.
WELL SAID Mac, totally agree, I've been gaming for 38 Years and have seen it all just like you have . I compare the Gaming Industry to where the Music industry was 10 years ago and headed the same way, the Music industry has been destroyed by Corporate Wankers and now people create their own labels and release their own material reaping all the rewards
A fanboy on twitter was defending loot chests in Shadow of War, I told him I would not be buying until a deep, deep sale because loot chests have no place in a full price game. Much less one with multiple price tiers and a season pass. He defended it by saying, "They are perfectly acceptable because they are in all the biggest titles!" This kind of shit makes me want to vomit. Enjoy your work Mack! 👍
I agree with your argument, unfortunately its a business model that works extremely well, and therefore it will continue and grow. Fortunately for those investors and shareholders (who as you rightly say don t care about the consumer as long as the money keeps on flowing into their bank accounts ) there is a perpetual flow of new players.
You finally got it Mack; the thing that has ruined big budget video gaming for a long time now. They use half or probably more often 3/4 of the development "costs" on BS that has NUFFIN to do with the actual video game. Then, in order to get it all back, they gouge the ever living fuck out of the games. It's no wonder a game can sell MILLIONS of copies at 60$ each with 30$ season passes and STILL be viewed as a failure. They've over bloated the budgets to such a massive scale that no amount of sales will ever get it back, but rather than fix the source the problem, they just double down on it all and gouge as much as possible to cover it. "Our plan is to waste more money on more hype to get more sales to cover the money wasted getting the hype. If that's not enough... we'll just add loot boxes."
As always you tell the truth Mack, it is a sorry time we're living in as gamers. It's to the point where i can't get excited for a good majority of games coming out, none from the big names anyway. It's alright though since there are still the little guys out there who care about making solid titles first and foremost, currently I'm playing Divinity Original Sin 2 and thoroughly enjoying it. You're also right about the apologists, heck I remember my times just shaking my head in disgust at the ones who hang out on the GTA 5 steam forums, defending shark card sales. Don't get me wrong, what a person does with their money is their business, but when they open their mouth and defend the practice with the delusion that "it's needed to pay for future game content!" I just want to vomit.
Thanks for this rant. You reminded me of Winston Churchill, which reminded me of Commandoes, and now I've found the 4 Commandoes games on steam for £11. Friggin chuffed.... only the steam store isn't working. (Woop)
I was once hyped for COD, by two TH-camrs. This was my first official COD game, I thought it would be cool, due to that hype I spent $100 on SP+MP content(Converting to regional pricing, it was very high for me), only to find that it sucked. The hype was a lie. I didn't feel worth it, and then I realized this was all false marketing, the trailers ... nothing happens like that in the game. I felt really bad, and now I think twice before even purchasing a game. I will never again support such games, which charge money for something that should already be in the game, and not lies. Some idiots say it is to support the devs, but its actually not (Just like how EA spends twice on marketing than development). Worst thing is, good games get shadowed, games that provide good content, who can't spend a lot on marketing.
Great point, but your request is like asking drug dealers to stop selling drugs to bring drug use numbers down. Let alone parents nowadays will buy little Tommy, 12 years old, MA rated games and the children ruin it because they act like their favorite troll player from TH-cam or Twitch. I've been a gamer for about the last 30 years and the games, especially multiplayer games, have gone down the crapper because of issues like this.
I made these arguments when Destiny 1 dropped (even though those RNG boxes were free) with regards to one person having an advantage over another. Too many people supported the game, saying it was fair and balanced...now the slippery slope has taken it a step further by making it cost money rather than a ton of time and luck.
I fucking love your videos, you are so right on the pay to win bullshit it's a joke, and I am sooo fucking sick of loot boxes in every game it's just makes me want to throw up 🤢 and then drown someone in that shit. Keep up the good work man for real thanks for not being fake like the rest of them.
This video is absolutely spot-funking-on! I'm only 29 but even I can't relate to today's gaming industry or modern protectionist gamers. I don't consider myself a gamer anymore. Why? Because I'm lucky to find two games a year worth my time and money. And those bullshit cinematic trailers! You're sat there watching pre-rendered, meaningless CGI cutscenes for 2-3 minutes thinking "Yep. Okay. Great. Uh-huh... Okay. Where's the gameplay? Okay. Yep... more CGI stuff. Okay. Oh, it's finished. Look, preorder bonuses!" They're usually the first red flag. Don't even get me started on the DLC, loot box, micro-transaction, multiple deluxe/special/gold/super editions culture! It's absolutely disgusting. It's all been said before by more eloquent people than me, so I'm just going to say the ONLY time I'm ever felt a DLC purchase was done right and justifiable was the Whistleblower DLC for Outlast. It gives you hours of NEW gameplay, adds to the story and only cost me about £5.00
And this is why I love this channel
Drue Bloem I think his keyboard broke.
Back to the reviews after this video guys, I just needed to get these things off my chest :)
Off your "Loot Chest" Har har
Interesting to hear your thoughts Mack 🕵
I don't know if I've missed this, but is your problem only with the loot crates which give advantages etc, or also the loot crates in games like overwatch where its entirely cosmetic? I agree though.
Wrong, your grandparents elected trump. They have been ruining the country for about 60 years now. Or have you not noticed that most people over 60 are both spineless and completely incompetent. MOST, not all.
Sadly, it ain't just games. But hey at least the singularity will come soon!
Last time I was this early, Visceral Studios was still making a single-player Star Wars game...
MrPeterGoldman this made me sad
too soon... man
Single player, linear games telling a story are no longer allowed due to market trends showing that it's easier to make a multiplayer game with micro-transactions that will keep retards coming back and spending money over a long period of time.
FUCK that art of game making, FUCK telling a story and FUCK making a good game!
Miss Dead Space :(
Well fecking said Mack! I stood up and gave my screen a standing ovation to you sir... One is also slightly pished from a good bevy but keep speaking the truth my honorary Jock Gamer friend!
It's funny because in Futurama when Fry says "shut up and take my money" it's a joke about people buying into bullshit because of hype.
Well said Mack, I think a crash is coming!
Well, if I'm anything to go by, the crash should have been here by now...
I'm not buying this kind of crap and never, ever used microtransactions! More people should be like me!
[half joking, but not about not buying this crap]
Nicholas Dragonborn telling you, youtubers and wanna be streamers are the ones buying this shit.
interesting thought, the gaming bubble of 20XX xD
well its either this or the mobile gaming problems will soon be gaming problems just in general. aaand i'm gonna need a new hobby
there is no crash coming, the gaming industry is making more money then hollywood each year.. and that amount of money is rising each year aswell.
You don't have to buy the loot crates and DLC's though
Same, I have thousands of good old games, hundreds I still never played, I am so good!
And you haven't had hours of brainwashing to recover from either! These kids are going to need years of therapy.
Anyone else finding themselves playing older and retro games?
LongHaired Yeti // There's only a handful of modern games that I find decent, but to me gaming began to die from about 2009-2010. Now I mostly get older games I missed out on for my PC and I've gotten in to collecting retro games and consoles.
I still jam c&c 95
Obviously the gaming industry is in a very bad place now, and a crash would be good.
But the sheer amount of sheep and gamers who just dont know how good games can be, or just don't care is easily enough to make the investors happy for years to come.
I haven't seen a decline in profits for AAA games, so it's nice wanting a crash but I don't see it happening.
I think we'll need to be content with the smaller games that do have a genuine goal to be good games.
Finally a game critic that doesn't fall for the "games are too expensive to make" bullshit. Thumb up for Mack
Battlefront 2 looks designed by a focus group rather than someone who wants a fun game
Have you played it at all, or read any comments about it online? People seem to love it.
Alex Gambrel
yeah sadly alot of people suffer from instant gratification and think the game is great when they only play it with friends.
play it by urself and u will see its pretty meh. not bad but not amazing.
Worst game I've ever played as well. And to compare it to BF3 wtf is your damage?
You speak the truth Mack! Too many games are focused on money making nowadays, not the gamers!
Been let down with so many games recently, it's poor.
"In my pub, the town vicar was pissed as a fart on the bandit" < most memorable and English thing I've ever heard from Mack
Mack new queen of dragons breaking the wheel
*mother of dragons
mother of guys, guys
i agree with you mac, and ive been not falling for this bullshit for about a year now. No add ons, no dlc, no season pass no loot crates at all, now ive even stopped buyin triple a games altogether. tired of buying crap games. love ya mac.
If only the rest of the world did this, problem solved.
Mack, most movies/games spend 2-3x the production budget on advertising. Not saying that it should be that way, or that its right, but it's how they all do it.
That explains why entertainment resembles a huge pile of bantha dung.
And thus we get a lot of shitty cookie cutter movies. It's the same damn problem. Investors wanting high returns.
The bell wasn't abused nearly hard enough this time.
remember a big reason why ptw has got so bad it's cus they target kids that don't understand how shady it is , it's been going on so long now that a lot of those kids are now adults and just seem to accept it..
Mack you speak my mind everytime, I am 32 years old and I want to cry too about how fucking stupid the people who live in the world right now, so much ignorance, I feel depressed.
Whether you know it or not, you're a Kekistani, so rejoice. Shadilay, my dude.
Try being 41...
I wish all gamers could be red pilled by Mac
Always a pleasure to have my opinions voiced by you Mack. Please keep providing us with such relief and don't worry too much about reviews vids, your pace is very good as is already.
imo, there last great game was Bad Company 2! If... no when they make BC3, I'll be so sad if they fill it up with DLC, season passes and Loot crates!
I really liked BF3 but I hate the "premium" thing EA has been doing ever since that game (Or maybe before but that's when I first heard of it)
Love bc 2 still a massive community playing it still on PC
During BC2 DIE gave out free DLC constantly (new maps) while saying they would never charge players for new maps. Well we saw how that turned out with their next game, BF3.
5:43 LoL What was that? Pissed as a fart? This is why I love watching Mack's videos. So much entertainment! Nice!
Gaming continues to evolve. Crates, season passes and dlc are where we are right now. I wish it wasn’t so.
I am with you Mack. Are you going to be the leader of the #BoycottBattlefront2 movement?
#SayNoToHashtags
I cant tell you how happy I am when I see one of your videos in my sub feed. Love the vid btw.
I don't get how people can't understand how to vote with their wallet.
This game is pay to win... i get it you can earn lootboxes but it will take you over 2000 hours gameplay to get there.
what a brilliant video. Sums up the modern gaming industry. From an old school gamer in his 40's
I mostly agree with the DLC. But one game comes to mind when I think of worthwhile DLC, and that's the Borderlands franchise. Pretty much every DLC (especially Tiny Tina's assault on dragon keep and claptastic voyage) was awesome.
Not all dlc is bad but why don't developers save those great stories and ideas for the sequel instead of selling us bits of games.
"Ima Call Of Duty fanboy! Gonna buy me some loot crates to see if get me mums arm!" You are the funniest TH-camr I've met! I agree wholeheartedly with your comments/arguments.
Cant even remember the last time I gave EA some money... so so long ago
hope you make a million subs soon. we need this voice out there
Bang on the money again Mack.
Yes! Taking power back into our own hands ! IT FEELS GOOD!
Everything has a price... these are dark times.
The key is to buy things like prey. Seriously. It's everything that should fail in today's market and it's fucking amazing. Breath of the wild is too. Vote with your wallet. The more games like battlefront that flop the better off we will be.
no,they killed the real prey ( and nearly killed humanhead studio) for this garbage.
Mack: The gaming anarchist! "Down with the big corporations! Revolt! Boycott their games!" I love it Mack. Preach it pal!
Pissed as a fart on the bandit - mack
The nice calm music are the end of these vids fits in really well
We need a crash!
Under Grounder Viva la revolución!... Of gaming.
I bet the crash will come with Star Citizen, they are selling fucking $400 dollars ships already, years before the game is released
I agree. WOAH!
And games' companies aren't too big to fail!
Are you referring to the gaming industry or the capitalist world? I hear isis is recruiting
Harry Hunt good point..fuck mobile gaming
Absolutely spot on Mack! I've never Pre-Ordered a game and I've never bought a Loot crate in my life. Yet my gaming experience is still rich and full of memories. Its the Snack back wearing, Monster energy drinking millennial bellwhiffs who steal their mothers credit cards that we have to blame
Quote from fallout 4 why do all the hard work when you can take what you want at gun point gaming raiders
Kelr Play the original fucking Battlefront
Star Wars is overhyped.
It's all because of console gamers!
Not really its because of kids who do mostly play on consoles but there are some on PC.
I wish I could have a few beers with you and talk games my man!
people need to u tube "BILL HICKS on Marketing" follow his advice.. just planting seeds...
AH I love your work!! Don't stop making videos please. Best reviewer ever & that bell breaks me up :P. It's nice to hear an honest perspective for a change.
Can you retro WAB COD MW and WAW
The Wise Bread they're not retro yet. Also mack has said cod was good until mw2. So you got your answer.
Knife Guy Gamer just want to see his thoughts I bought WAW and man it's campaign is fricken amazing and so immersive you felt as if you did everything zombies was good and so was the multiplayer they actually had flank routes designated spawn points and recoil if he reviews it after cod ww2 comes out he would probably get mad at cod ww2 after seeing how fun the old ones were
"People will do anything for money now, money talks" Mack
"Moneytalks! BS walks! Come on, come on, love me for the money! Come on, come on, listen to the money talk!" AC/DC
The only good game I've played this year is the legend of Zelda breath of the wild
Really? Thats some weird standards. Zelda was boring as fuck, I'd rather watch grass grow.
Valkyriez 😗
zelda is made by passionate developers and a great publisher on top of it. its rare to see good games these days
Try prey Man. Engaging and spooky. Straight out of the 0451 pedigree. On par with bioshock infinite or deus ex (original) in terms of an experience.
Honestly this is the most accurate video of the gaming industry ever !
Consoles are a scourge to gaming
Eddie Salgado no gamers are we are the ones who decide what they do with our wallets
AGREED console gamers dont even understand the power of a mouse with more than 3 buttons. They dont even rebind their console controls to better fit their individual dexterity limits. Fucking trend following scumbags.
funny how lootcrates, microtransactions and shit first came to pc games
Neophysis
the loot boxes came from MMOs first Mobile games took it to the extreme
And its just not not console gamer are to blame PC gamers have just as much blame
Mack I have not bought AAA at full price in over 10 years. COD MW was probably my last AAA game bought at full price (minus Blizzard AAA overwatch and D3) The games do not interest me same shit different day. Never bought a DLC. Never bought a lootbox...
I WROTE THIS COMMENT WITHOUT WATCHING THE VIDEO AS SOON AS IT WAS UPLOADED LOL
Druss [Happy Bunny] That's great.
YOU ALSO TRIGGERED SOME PEOPLE IN THE COMMENT SECTION LOL
IT'S A MEME YOU DIPS LMAOOOOOO
Your avatar clearly is used to depict your level of intelligence
Richard Dale and you're clearly a mong
This garbage is why I don't really care for any AAA releases at the moment. Also, you deserve more subs.
Excellent rant. We do need a crash, but we have a long way to go. The Battlefront II trailer has 145K upvotes compared to 4K down. Everyone with a care for the future of the gaming industry, I encourage you to explain how boycotting AAA titles can bring some good.
Once again your one of a very small group of people who constantly hit the nail on the head!
Good work.....
Mack, we love you! The tide is turning thanks to guys like you, nice one!
Thank god for this channel, it's one of the only "Real" ones left.
Cracking analogy with the pissed up vicar on the bandit haha
WELL SAID Mac, totally agree, I've been gaming for 38 Years and have seen it all just like you have . I compare the Gaming Industry to where the Music industry was 10 years ago and headed the same way, the Music industry has been destroyed by Corporate Wankers and now people create their own labels and release their own material reaping all the rewards
Nintendo is the only company saying up yours to the shareholders.
I cant wait for the day where I dont have to cross games off my want list because of microtransactions.
4:48 absolutely priceless. Give this man a Producer role on a gamedev studio.
Cannot remember a single game I've bought that I've been disappointed with, because I watch Macks videos first. Seriously.
Keep up the awesome work.
Out of control greed ruining everything in all areas of life. Support indie and mid-tier games.
Love these types of videos. Thank you for being our voice. Keep your chin up no matter how hard life gets take care Mack
Your impressions of the deaf ears is spot on! Hilarious! mehh ruhh raaa maeuhhaahhhh
