Disabling the annoying reverse beep takes 2 minutes: Step 1:Turn the car on by pushing the "Power" button. It should be in either "IG-ON" or "Ready" mode. Step 2: Push the trip/odometer button until the dashboard displays "ODO" rather than "Trip A" or "Trip B." Step 3: Turn off the car. Step 4: Hold down the brake and turn the car back on. Wait for the "Ready" light to illuminate. Within 6 seconds, push and hold the trip/odometer button for at least 10 seconds. Step 5: Continue depressing the trip/odometer button while you shift from "park" to "reverse" and back to "park." Release the trip/odometer button. Step 6: Confirm that the trip/odometer displays "b on." Press the trip/odometer button until the display shows "b off." The display "b on" means "beep on," and the display "b off" means "beep off." Step 7: Press the power button to turn off the car. Turn the car back on and put it in reverse to confirm that the reverse beep is actually disabled.
Couple things: The switch from engine/hybrid to EV is rarely instant. If you ever go into power mode or even just leave EV, it’ll keep the engine running. The main button for switching between modes is the HV/EV button in the middle. The right most EV button is there so the car is actively switching between hybrid and EV depending on your acceleration. So if you ever want to go back to EV, simply hit the middle HV/EV button, when the display reads EV MODE, give it a couple minutes, keep driving, and the car will eventually shut the engine off. I found that the car likes shutting off quicker when the car is idle at a red light or just in park. TIP: 5 days ago I discovered the charging mode. Hold down the middle HV/EV button for a couple seconds until the display reads CHG MODE. When you’re out of EV juice, activate this and the engine will passively charge the battery as you drive. I’ve seen people say that the conversion is about 1.5 miles of gasoline to 1 mile of EV, I have the older 2017 model so maybe my charge mode is weaker, but nevertheless it is a great feature and I use it daily.
When switching into power mode and switch back into EV, and the engine will start and run through its warm up cycle, and you will have to wait about 2 minutes and it will shutoff automatically. This is by design if the engine is cold.
Yep, can confirm it. I live in Israel, so even in the morning, the temp is hot, so no warm up cycle needed, for the power mode. I just hit the EV, switch to PWR and off it goes.
somehow I think it can be useful to make a clear distinction between going forward and backward. Imagine a context it's set on backward but you assume it's forward and start accelerating but just rush on the car or wall behind.
A gen 2 is currently helping me get through college and I love it. I look forward to upgrading to the newer Prius! What a fantastically over-engineered machine.
Okay I am going to address all 10 of your concerns, I have a 2018 Advanced. 1) The Backup beep can only be changed at the dealer, and pretty sure you're going to have to pay for it. 2) The Navigation volume works just like any other car I have had so its not a Prius Prime issue. 3) You didn't buy the higher level car trim (which was called the "Limited" for 2020) to get the garage door button and other buttons on the rear view mirror. 4) I will agree the rear hatch does raise up pretty high. 5) Just because the traction battery cooling asks if you want to turn it on depends on a few things. It will only work if the hybrid battery (Traction battery) temp is hot if it isn't hot it won't turn on and it will only run for 30 minutes max. If there is only a small charge on the battery left even if you do say Yes turn on, it won't. 6) Black Paint - well I mean they never offered Black, its only Midnight Black Metallic...duh 7) My favorite one you hate: First you hitting every button imaginable is funny to watch. But there is absolutely no reason to turn the car off to get it back to Electric. (I got 25,000 miles on my car never had to do that) You started out in in EV and then went to Hybrid just Engine and selected Power Mode indicated by the screen being red. However you then went to EV/Auto to go back to electric which is the wrong button to press, you should have depressed the middle button to go back to electric. BUT, it does not work instantaneously it might take 5 to 10 minutes to revert back to Electric, give it time. Auto/EV is for driving in hilly areas the engine will come on going up the hill and it will revert to Electric going down the hill, great with Intelligent cruise control on as well. I have gone 80miles before my battery went to zero. 8) Entune, Yeah it it sucks but you will not get all the features unless you have the higher version Prius Prime, like finding your car, checking on the charge state, and even remotely starting the heat or AC for 10 minutes prior to getting into the car..comes in handy. 9) Horn? seriously? I got no issue. I am not driving a Semi truck. 10) Never had that issue at a Valet, must be because your in Southern Cal.... See I never said your were an imbecile even once... But Good Grief RTFM!...Cheers Buddy.
I stuck a garage opener under the dash, above the phone charger tray. This is on Amazon too. Brandmotion 1110-2520 Frameless Manual Dim Rear View Mirror with Universal Remote Control www.amazon.com/dp/B07CH2YHBL/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_snTeEbE2KAAX2
I know the answer to your question on “how to get back to electric mode after power mode kicks in the Gas engine?”. The answer is, it automatically does after few minutes. Whenever gas engine kicks in, it’s programmed to run until it warms up, so it stays healthy (go figure why!), but you just keep driving and after 5 - 10 minutes, the car will go back to EV mode.
Darko Tumbl while everything you say is completely true, the Prius prime is a hybrid with plug-in EV battery. It’s much bigger than the battery in regular Prius’. It’s designed to give you the option to drive hybrid or EV until the charge runs out then it goes into hybrid. And of course driving habit and conditions effect the range, power, etc.
Concerning power mode, it won't turn the motor on if there's battery left. You can toggle the drive mode between eco/normal/power without turning on the motor. However, if you hit the HV/EV button (like you did in the video) it will immediately go into hybrid mode and the motor turns on. Once that happens, the motor will keep running until it warms up (for emissions reasons). You won't be able to switch back to EV mode for a few minutes until the motor is warm, or by forcing the motor off by shutting the car off. So basically just don't touch the HV/EV button or EV auto button (middle and right button) unless you don't mind running the motor for a few minutes. But you can toggle through the drive mode (button on the left) without forcing the motor on.
I have a Ford Fusion plug-in and the behavior is the same with the engine-on business. The engine wants to stay on for a minute or two after it was needed for a warm-up. On the Ford there's no different mode, you just push the accelerator pedal hard and it automatically engages the gasoline engine for extra oomph. Love the whole plug-in concept. I do my daily commute on electric only, road trips are gasoline-powered. No range anxiety nor Tesla price tag.
I just traded in my 2020 Prius Prime for a 2022 Toyota Camry.. What I disliked about the Prius Prime..in no particular order. 1. the heat seat buttons, the style and location would always get turned on even in the heat of summer! 2. The A/C and Heater took forever to cool or heat! 3. The car had no pick up unless you put it into sport. 4. the view in the rearview mirror was horrible! 5. No power driver seat 6. the heater location in the front bottom would always burn or freeze my left leg! 7. the lane keep assist would not activate until you went over the line (I turned it off, but for those that need it).. 8. the Trunk space was tiny! 9. I hated plugging it in, especially when I had to climb the snowbank in winter! 10. when you go through a carwash it NEVER cleaned the bottom half of the tailgate due to the design. 11. Yes, the back up beeper was ANNOYING AS HELL! I LOVE MY NEW CAMRY!
Truth!! We’re on our second prime and have never had soo many ppl mad dog us on the road. Doesn’t matter if you’re going 20mph over they still think you’re going slow!
i ve developed thick skin- accelerate within the blue lines. go til 2 mph below posted speed limit and ultra coast to a stop or red light. have gotten good with my deep breathing and my finger greetings laffing all the way to gas tanks
Read the manual. That can help with some issues, like the AC. Unfortunately, it must be activated from the fob. Also it cannot be activated until the doors have been shut for 4 minutes. (Why Toyota?) And then it will only run for 10 minutes before shutting off (again, Why Toyota?) It is nice in the driveway before you leave on cold mornings. But you have to remember to set the temperature before you get out. The horn is whimpy, but whatever. The beeping on reverse can save you. It's too easy to forget you are in reverse and jam on the pedal otherwise. How long are you staying in reverse? Unplug the phone from cable when you update. Otherwise Carplay will keep it from working. POWER MODE is an ILLUSION. It does NOTHING to add power. All it does is make the pedal have a different control curve. In eco mode you have to press further, in power mode you press less for same acceleration. But both are the same if you jam the pedal to the floor. Once the engine comes on for any reason, it will stay on for a few minutes until it warms up. Then it goes off and you are back to normal. Here's another complaint. If you turn on the defrost the engine comes on whether you have battery or not. Toyota is terrible with any software of any kind. But the Prius Prime is a great car.
This was actually super informative about little things I wouldve have known about in any other video. These aren't deal breakers for me but the trunk thing gave me a chuckle
I don't know if this is what is going on with your car's unwillingness to switch back to EV mode, but with mine (17 Advanced), once it is using the gas engine it insists on using it for a little while. I tend to switch to gas when I get on the highway, and occasionally there will be a traffic jam, forcing me to slow down, and prompting me to switch back to EV. It often takes a while for the car to switch back to EV, and I read in the owner's manual that it does try to use the engine wisely. Very occasionally it will start using the engine even when I'm cruising along in EV Auto mode.
Susan Avery - As with any Prius, as soon as the engine comes on, the computer will not allow it to go back to EV mode until the engine has fully warmed up. It is for emissions, and also for general health of the engine. I am sure that is what is happening here.
Hi I have that Prius 2021 same inside ,mine goes back to ev by switching drive mode back to eco (blue) first ! some tips I’ve found are holding down the middle button (he/ev)to charge the car WHILE driving , because it’s good to stay at 50% at all times. An use the score tracking while driving to ensure you’re driving as you should be . Regular maintenance an it’s a great financial choice ! I plan to get the new rav 4 as a second vehicle soon 🎉 great video ❤
Auto-dimming mirror with Homelink Garage Door Opener, available standard on the Prius Prime Limited, can also be added as an aftermarket add-on for about $500 dealer-installed.
Just saw your video where you modded your own horn. So here's the link to buy the part yourself. I'm sure you can handle the install :) www.amazon.com/GENTEX-GENK40A-Auto-Dimming-Mirror/dp/B002Z600DY
Absolutely fantastic video. I pick up my new 2020 PPP Limited tomorrow in Portland OR. I think i will have the dealer turn off the reverse beeping. Thanks!!!!!
The beeping in reverse is an adjustable setting that the dealership has to do. It’s like on page 834 or something like that in the owners manual. I took it to Huntington Beach Toyota where I got it and the dealer changed it from the constant beeping to just a quick single beep. Took them all of 20 minutes to do.
roadrunner6903 dude! I’m all over this. I’ll be at the dealer very soon to kill this stupid beep. I’m tired of explaining to everyone I’m on the phone with what that is. Lol
Oh it’s life changing. The beeping was like nails on a chalkboard. Also, what did you use to plug to the front license plate holes? Been trying to figure out a solution but for now just have the ugly holes the dealer drilled.
The garage door buttons on the mirror is only available on the highest trim which is the limited for 2020 or Advanced for previous years. Not sure if that can be an OEM modification change on the lower trims after you purchased the vehicle. Also in regards with the engine coming on and staying on, if you press the HV/EV button, the engine will come on. Whenever the engine comes on by your actions or the cars own actions, the engine will continue to run until it is warmed up to operating temperature. That is for the purpose of emissions, efficiency, and longevity of the engine. When the car asks you if you want to A/C on while charging, select yes and then lock the doors before plugging in the car. If you plugin first before locking or don't lock at all, it won't work. As others have said, you can have the reverse beep turned off at the dealer or get a scan tool, like Carista, and turn it off yourself. With the scanning tool, you can adjust all kinds of other things like the seatbelt beep, the number of turn signal flashes for a quick turn signal, the volume of your lock and unlock beeps, etc.
@@ocmotivator See my comment above. The auto-dimming mirror with homelink is available on the Prius Prime Limited, but you can get it dealer-installed for about $500, or you can buy it here and do the install yourself: www.amazon.com/GENTEX-GENK40A-Auto-Dimming-Mirror/dp/B002Z600DY
the beeping - if you have an android phone, buy a ODB2 to Bluetooth adapter. The use toyota Assist and it has the option to turn it off. It can also read all the trouble codes on any new car. 1998 and newer. Bought a new prius and before I pulled off the lot, I turned it off.
Several things I like about my 2011 Nissan Leaf. It's cheap (~3cents/mile with no solar on house). Extremely low maintenance costs (over nearly 9 years a grand total under $500, incl. a flat tire and accessory battery replacement). Bought it when the Fed and State gave me $12500 to buy it and free charging station in my garage. Like all electrics it's quiet. Range is no issue since over 98% of my driving is short trips (long trips I take my Harley).
The annoying thing about the reverse beep, which CAN be turned off (it will still beep once), is the fact that it is INSIDE the car, not outside. *I* know I am in reverse, it is the people outside that need to be warned. Our 2020 Leaf has the reverse beep OUTSIDE where it should be. With regard to turning off the reverse beep, there was a really stupid "dance" to do it yourself in the 2004-2009. In the Prime it can be done with a cheap ODBC reader and free app if you don't want to go to the dealer. Given all the computer screens in every Prius ever made, there SHOULD be a "reverse beep" on/off button on some screen. AND there SHOULD be one to register the TPMS sensors. Those of us who live in snow country swap summer/winter tires and then it is a trip to the dealer or mechanic to register the sensors. This should not be needed, waste of time and money. By the way, nice tour through Newport Beach, I noticed the Balboa Island ferry near the end.
Once the engines started it can’t just shut off in mid drive that damage the engine and transmission that’s why you gotta stop put it in park so the engine can shut off safely
Ryan S that seems logical but it does that all the time. Turns on the engine then flips to electric and back all the time. It just won’t go back to only electric ⚡️
I just wanted to say thank you really briefly.I appreciate you for making this video.I'm thinking about buying a two thousand and twenty prius instead of buying a two thousand and twenty four
Nice sunglasses 😎 !!! I have silver PP looks chubbier than your black colour. Glad you are one of Prius fans like us! Love your humorous. Your black PP looks stunning!
I think that the main problem of this car is your No11. The trunk. NOt only it's awfully small now but you you can easily drop things out of it when the trunk is open since the cushion is above the bumper surface.
Richard Mousseau definitely true! Stuff rolls out all the time. Definitely a flaw but I chose that over the 2019 where the battery cut the rear seats down to 2 vs 3. I carry the fam and kids places and businesspeople at times so chose the 2020.
I hate having to pay the 100 dollar license plate tax for driving a hybrid. I've got a 2018 Prius 4 with the Comma AI self driving system....well worth the 1200 bucks...I use it about 98% of the time.....great for highway runs. I have a 2019 Corvette.....I am probably going to keep it for midnight 180 MPH runs down the local highway. Lots of fun but don't like driving it for regular driving needs....the Prius is just so much better for that.
technologie pack has the home link, you cheaped out by 3 grand! missed the HUD, all around sensors and home link for garage door and automatic night mode mirror. 10 speakers etc.... great investment for 3 grand! i love it!
The backup beep is SO annoying. I had my local Toyota dealer shut mine off within 2 days of owning my car 😂 id recommend trying your local dealership. I actually just made a video on 5 things I hate about my Prius 🤙🏼
My Dad would have said the same thing you did: If this is worst problems you have, then you are in pretty good shape. Sounds like a nice car. I still use the backward beep as a personal joke: I am so huge that when I walk backwards my sound is beep , beep etc. Here is my question: were you able to get a tax credit from Calif tax along with your federal tax credit of 4500? Thanks in advance. This is the first time I was a first time commenter..Merry Christmas or Happy Hanakkah or Happy hollidays!
Things I hate. Used Scout twice and it got me lost twice by a lot. I have to take the key out to unlock another door other than the drivers. I never had to take my key out on the Sonata hybrid. No trunk popper so I have to get the key out to access the trunk. In the winter, I only get 33km on a full charge but 42km in the summer. Not as happy as I thought I would be.
if you want to get rid of the reversing beeping, buy this and you will be able to do changes to your Prius prime: Carista OBD2 Bluetooth Adapter and App: Diagnose, Customize and Service Your Audi, BMW, Lexus, Mini, Scion, Toyota or VW with Dealer Level Technology I did it
Have a 2020 Prius Prime Limited and: #3 - Mine (Limited) has the garage opening bottoms in mirror. Of course and as you say, it should be an additional $20 but the difference I paid for Limited were probably $3-4K or more. 7:49 Hah hah... My other car is a Hummer H2! (Yes, I get it & no tomatos please) but I get that laugh anytime I drive Prius, with or without horning... Reverse anytime I drive H2, even without asking guesture, always I seem to get the right of the way! Go tell them Size doesn't matter! #10 - Uber thing is real. But I love it. I never get annoying approach by the wallet guy and seriously I know how to park my car in selfservice area! Another number you didn't mentioned and I really hate is the Navigation in this car (And I have the top of the top options). It simply suckes. I always use my cellphone instead. The worst, unfriendly GPS in the market to put an address or point of interst where it askes for State, then City (Where in heel I have that knowledge in LA county where it has some 100 cities or so), then the other detail and you have no way to get around it. Even Ole Garmine had simple 2 street crossing names as a destination or simply applying a single telephone number of the location without going through a long list of pre and post population must to give you a destination... Really Toyota? Is this best you can do? Then the hatchback cargo area in night is very dark. Toyota couldn't install a decent LED when they have all the gizmos in fornt headlights? Try to get your groceries out blindly only to wonder next day what is the smell in the car! Car is too close to ground. OK I get the aerodynamic properties. But watch out. The Shifter is totally wrongly oriented. You push forward to go backwards and back to go forwards. HEY TOYOTA ENGINEERS... is this how you drive in Japan or something? and couldn't you make it in a more sensible way for avarage American mind? On a Tesla you can get to your car at work, say in mid day, enjoy AC and good music and your lunch. In a Prius you do that with a 100 percent fully charged plugged in batteries and car will go dead when you start! Seriously Toyota and why couldn't you make it Priority driving energy from plug in batteries rather than small 12 V car's battery all time! List continues but I don't think YT will show my comment if I continue any more. So, so long and thanks for puting this together. Hope some responsible Japanes Toyota related personel sees this! (And does not act American by turning the head the other way! Towards TESLA!!!)!
My rear view mirror has the garage door opener buttons on the rear of the frameless mirror. You can't see them but you can feel them on the bottom left.
This is just for anyone else having the same issue about the EV mode 'not working', in this case the EV mode got canceled because of the sudden acceleration: From the Prius Prime Manual: Gasoline engine operation in EV/EV auto mode Even if there is a sufficient amount of electricity remaining in the hybrid battery (traction battery) and EV driving range (P. 214, 230, 237, 254) is being displayed on the multi-information display etc., EV driving (driving using only the electric motor) may be canceled and both gasoline engine and electric motor are used depending on the situation (EV driving will be returned to automatically after EV driving becomes possible again). EV driving may be canceled automatically in the following circumstances: ●When vehicle speed is more than approximately 84 mph (135 km/h). ●When power is needed temporarily, for example when the accelerator pedal is depressed firmly or when accelerating suddenly.* ●When the temperature of the hybrid system is high. The vehicle has been left in the sun, driven on a hill, driven at high speeds, etc. ●When the temperature of the hybrid system is low. ●When the heater is switched on when the outside temperature is below about 14°F (-10°C). ●When the windshield defogger switch is pressed. (P. 515, 527) ●When the system determines that the gasoline engine needs to be started. The gasoline engine may also operate in circumstances other than those listed above, depending on conditions. *: When traveling in the EV auto mode only
My problem is the plug in cord. When sitting in the garage, it doesn't reach the outlet. I have to use an extension cord. Toyota doesn't want you to use an extension cord.
I have the 1st gen Prius plug-in 2013 and have 115K trouble free miles. For Toyoya, I would not worry about extended warranty if you want to save money.
@@KhmerVideoLive Agree. Toyota. No ext warranty. I have a 2013 Prius II and just this week had to take it in for a "problem." In the 8 years I've owned it, that's the first time. I take it in regularly for maintenance - very quick and very little cost.
Great video... with useful information.. The Prius are great. reliable.. and not as slow as people think. They are not fast.. but decent enough. I think you can disable the beep with an OBD2 dongle, and Dr Prius.. not sure if it remembers that setting. Or the dealer can disable it also. The Car Car Nut TH-cam channel .. he is a Toyota master tech.. has his own garage also. Just did a video on a 2019 Prius Prime.. with 341,000 miles on it. Still on the original brakes.. mostly highway and owner almost lives in it, as a long haul courier. Pretty amazing.
Same issue here. I ended up totaling my 2011 in a very slow-speed rearend accident, great excuse to run out and get a 2017 Prius Prime Advanced -- I had to search all of New England high and low to find one with just 27 K miles on it. I love it. Except for the software quirks.
Help! My 2019 Prime with just 2500 miles has a loud engine issue. The engine makes a rattling/hesitation/vibration sound when the car has not been driven using the Hybrid Mode for some time. The loud engine noise subsides a couple of seconds after initial startup. I have taken it to the dealer and was told everything is normal.
i know the gen 2 has a way to turn off the reverse beeping through maintenance mode and brake pumping a number of times. i'm sure this car has that too.
You mean besides the indicator on the dash, the fact that the rear view camera is on, and that the car is moving in reverse? Literally no other car does this because it is insultingly stupid.
My #1 gripe with my 2019 Prius Prime: no spare tire. I've had two flats, and had to call a tow truck because of this lack. Unacceptable, Toyota! #2 gripe: Can't run the a/c while the car is charging. The Rav4 Prime does let you run the a/c while charging, why not the Prius Prime? #3: The stereo has no mode to play "folders" of music on a thumb drive. It scans all the music on the drive and you can browse the whole list, but a 32gB thumb drive might have THOUSANDS of songs on it! Not being able to select and play them in separated-by-folder order is just plain sloppy software engineering. The 11.4 gallon gas tank is too small; if you drive in mountainous terrain, the fuel economy isn't all that great, about 35 mpg, and that's only 385 miles range. I'd be happier with the car if it had a 16 gallon tank. BUT, I also live in California - the land of $4.50 gas - and every time I plug into it into the EV charger, I'm good for another 35 miles and I'm damn glad to have this car. A full charge at home costs 85¢ if I do it between midnight and 06:00am. It costs about 2.5¢/mile to run it on electricity, 6.5¢/mile on gasoline. In 100,000 miles, if you ran it only on gasoline (55 mpg), you'ld burn $8182 worth of gas. On electricity, it would take $1,890 worth of electricity. So it costs 4 times more to run on gas than on electricity with the current price for gas, and that's a powerful incentive to ignore the little irritations like not being able to run the a/c while it's charging.
After POWER mode come back to ECO mode then you need to press the button in the middle not the one in the right and yo have to wait a minute before comeback to electric mode
Ot oh, should've read this before yesterday when I purchased my Prius Prime plug-in. Ah, probably would've bought it anyway. However, my last car was a Camry. Camry was more spacious/comfortable - lots more trunk space even with space under the trunk for a spare tire. Hopefully, I'll get used to the car because I'm not planning to buy another soon. Enjoyed the video.
One issue for me is I activate the air conditioning remotely, the car starts to cool down fine but then when I open the car door to get in and drive the air conditioning turns off and then has to turn back on again. It takes the air conditioning 2 minutes to cycle off then on again and and in the Phoenix summer it is really annoying. Absolutely love the car though. I was able to turn off the rear beeping option with the Carista ODB2 module which also let me turn off annoying beeis annoying beeps like the seatbelt warning for the driver or the passenger seats.
I have a 2017. All the dealer has to do is change a setting on the scan tool and I get just one beep when I switch into reverse; they did mine gratis after I forgot to ask for it on the 30K service. I drive in EV mode a lot (but I have a house and a garage with 240 VAC service) and I get a LOT better mileage than you do. Agreed, the weirdness in plugs at Type 2 charging station is a bit annoying, but it is what it is. Air horns ... GREAT IDEA! Entune ... I'm with ya. What has Toyota got against Androids, anyway? And a question for you: did you get a ceramic coat for your paint? Thanks! I'm a 44+ year IT guy, and I have just *one* niggly observation: The Japanese create *fantastic* devices, including the Prius. But they write *LOUSY software* ... absolutely unintuitive, the next screen (or how to get back to the last one) makes me pay attention to that stupid 11.7" screen instead of the road. ARGH!!!!
I had no idea that people not only hate Prius’s but hate on the driver.. I just bought one btw ..... so will you keep the car for the long haul or are you going to ditch it ?
I’m pretty sure I’ll keep the car forever since they last so long. It’s always nice to have a reliable spare car and everyone tells me this thing will go well past 100k miles without issues.
@@ocmotivator I have a 2011 Prius with 112k miles on it and it's never had any kind of issues. No mechanical or electronic breakdown of any kind whatsoever. I'm trading it in for a 2020 Prius Prime this week because I want the latest toys. But I'm sure this thing would last forever if I kept it.
Probably one of the most hilarious TH-cam Prius owners. Question though: how come you don't hate the shifter? You went out of your way to change the horn, but don't mind that idiotic shifter?
Toyota always leave something in Prius to make us wondering. My 2010 prius when you shut down, just for a minute, never will shut off engine after restart for mile or so. Why??? I was thinking to upgrade it for prime, but my bike will not fit inside without removing front wheel. Probably have to go with regular Prius even though Prime is much better looking. Thanks for the video
@@Orisman9 I don’t have the car anymore. But they fit right behind the grill in the open area where the existing horns are. You may have to remove one of the old horns to fit it right
Avoid the XLE / high-end model. Get the low-end model with the simple display, CD player and physical vent controls. It is a lot better thought out than yours.
The only dumb decision Toyota made for the base model is not to include the keyless pad sensor to open the trunk. So every time you come with your groceries in your hands, you have to go tap the driver's side handle and then go to the trunk unless you want to take the key out of your pocket and press a button.
2 years later, as a person looking into buying a prius prime, I am grateful for this video! Great video!
Disabling the annoying reverse beep takes 2 minutes:
Step 1:Turn the car on by pushing the "Power" button. It should be in either "IG-ON" or "Ready" mode.
Step 2: Push the trip/odometer button until the dashboard displays "ODO" rather than "Trip A" or "Trip B."
Step 3: Turn off the car.
Step 6: Confirm that the trip/odometer displays "b on." Press the trip/odometer button until the display shows "b off." The display "b on" means "beep on," and the display "b off" means "beep off."
Step 7: Press the power button to turn off the car. Turn the car back on and put it in reverse to confirm that the reverse beep is actually disabled.
Is that all!!
This does not work for Prius prime. Maybe for the regular Prius. For prime you need either an OBD dongle and an app or have dealer deactivate.
@SA it's not for everybody. I leave mine on.
This comment is why TH-cam is a man’s best friend!
Switch that beep off in the Android Dr Prius app using a odb2 dongel.
Thanks amigo
Yep, can confirm it. I live in Israel, so even in the morning, the temp is hot, so no warm up cycle needed, for the power mode. I just hit the EV, switch to PWR and off it goes.
I find the backup beeping helpful because it reminds me of which way I'm going. It's great for people with ADHD.
Another way to know which way you're going is to use your eyes to see which way you're going. Also, if the backup camera is on, you're in reverse.
@@sozijlt it stopped my from having an accident . Not hearing the beeping tells me more than anything else that I’m in drive rather than reverse

Dealership turned off the reverse beeping for free. All you have to do is ask them to.

@@nickiemcnichols5397 You can do it yourself for $8 or Free, with an ODBII adapter and free software.
You can also get Carista app and OBD plug and turn off ALL the beeps in the car. So nice and quiet now.
They refused to do it for my Mirai
somehow I think it can be useful to make a clear distinction between going forward and backward.
6) Black Paint - well I mean they never offered Black, its only Midnight Black Metallic...duh
7) My favorite one you hate: First you hitting every button imaginable is funny to watch.
To add to the comment on #7, it is really very simple. If the engine starts running it will run until it gets up to full operating temperature.
I do think it’s a SoCal thing ... no offense but all that bling and stuff is big deal there ... can I say shallow 😊

Makes sense,
thanks!
So if you live 5-10 minutes from work.... it won't run EV?
dom themom yes as long as you have a enough charge on the electric battery
Awesome. Thanks! 👍🏼
I think the way the AC will work is by using the remote (key fob)
Click lock and then hold the AC button on your fob...
“They will assume you’re an Uber.” 🤣😂🤣
Great video.
“I bought a sparkly colored car “ 😂 love that for you
I just traded in my 2020 Prius Prime for a 2022 Toyota Camry..
The draw back to owning a prius is the haters on the road and there incessantly bad behavior.
Truth!! We’re on our second prime and have never had soo many ppl mad dog us on the road. Doesn’t matter if you’re going 20mph over they still think you’re going slow!
@@brianhundley833 I agree but I don't care because if I'm first at the lights I leave them all for dust, except a Tesla, of course.
i ve developed thick skin- accelerate within the blue lines. go til 2 mph below posted speed limit and ultra coast to a stop or red light. have gotten good with my deep breathing and my finger greetings laffing all the way to gas tanks
Heat pump is not enough below certain temperatures or to run the defrost. So, yes, the engine will turn on. Otherwise the heat pump is very efficient.
This was actually super informative about little things I wouldve have known about in any other video. These aren't deal breakers for me but the trunk thing gave me a chuckle
Great video and very helpful! Also, you are hilarious 😅.
The prime’s trunk space is also significantly reduced due to the battery pack.
So I haven’t plugged them yet. They weren’t super big so they just blended in with all the other commotion going on in the front of the car. Lol.
Great info. Thanks! I’m getting that beep turned off ASAP before I lose my mind.

This is just for anyone else having the same issue about the EV mode 'not working', in this case the EV mode got canceled because of the sudden acceleration:
From the Prius Prime Manual:
Gasoline engine operation in EV/EV auto mode
Even if there is a sufficient amount of electricity remaining in the hybrid battery (traction battery) and EV driving range (P. 214, 230, 237, 254) is being
displayed on the multi-information display etc., EV driving (driving using only
the electric motor) may be canceled and both gasoline engine and electric
motor are used depending on the situation (EV driving will be returned to
automatically after EV driving becomes possible again).
EV driving may be canceled automatically in the following circumstances:
●When vehicle speed is more than approximately 84 mph (135 km/h).
●When power is needed temporarily, for example when the accelerator pedal
is depressed firmly or when accelerating suddenly.*
●When the temperature of the hybrid system is high.
The vehicle has been left in the sun, driven on a hill, driven at high speeds,
etc.
●When the temperature of the hybrid system is low.
●When the heater is switched on when the outside temperature is below
about 14°F (-10°C).
●When the windshield defogger switch is pressed. (P. 515, 527)
●When the system determines that the gasoline engine needs to be started.
The gasoline engine may also operate in circumstances other than those
listed above, depending on conditions.
*: When traveling in the EV auto mode only
Entune is absolute trash, you are 100% right. Toyota should have this right by now !!!
My problem is the plug in cord. When sitting in the garage, it doesn't reach the outlet. I have to use an extension cord. Toyota doesn't want you to use an extension cord.
No spare tire is my biggest complaint, on the 2021 Prius anyway.
It has a flat proof tire, meaning you can go a really long distance for a flat, but you are supposed to check your tires everyday in the morning
Excellent video😀😀
Quick question. I’m buying one hopefully in about a month or so. Do you recommend buying the extended warranty? Thank you 😀

This is so helpful! I have a 2011 Prius and love it but it’s been driven hard. Time to upgrade 👍🏼
Same issue here. I ended up totaling my 2011 in a very slow-speed rearend accident, great excuse to run out and get a 2017 Prius Prime Advanced -- I had to search all of New England high and low to find one with just 27 K miles on it. I love it. Except for the software quirks.
take it out of power and put it back in normal - When you power off the car, it comes up with the blue background for normal mode.
Hmmm I think running AC during charging. Is for cooling the batteries while they charge.
CA CD uuum it’s still under warranty at 2500 miles take it into the dealership instead of asking random people on YT
i know the gen 2 has a way to turn off the reverse beeping through maintenance mode and brake pumping a number of times. i'm sure this car has that too.
Beeping while in reverse makes sense IMO as you won’t be able to tell that the car is in reverse without it short of the rear view camera being on
You mean besides the indicator on the dash, the fact that the rear view camera is on, and that the car is moving in reverse?
Garage door opener on the advanced trim.
After POWER mode come back to ECO mode then you need to press the button in the middle not the one in the right and yo have to wait a minute before comeback to electric mode
I there a button to lower the volume or even eliminate the music after each paragraph?
ARGH!!!!
This is hilarious. Great video. Thank you.
Is there a button to explode Prius? And beach owners too pls
Joshua Goldberg wow that is awesome! You’ll love the new one! Just make them shut off the reverse beep! Lol
I have a 2008 Prius with 189,000 miles only replaced the small battery at 150k great little car
you have no battery left to go full battery from power
Probably one of the most hilarious TH-cam Prius owners. Question though: how come you don't hate the shifter? You went out of your way to change the horn, but don't mind that idiotic shifter?
It also will help you get back in to the mode you want to be in
My wife also got her beep turned off at dealer, no charge.
Man I literally made it through this entire video, before I realized you're the Lambo/mopar guy.
The background music comes up way too loud after every commentary on the car. Appreciate the info though.
Why dont you go back to Eco mode before go full EV?
Toyota always leave something in Prius to make us wondering. My 2010 prius when you shut down, just for a minute, never will shut off engine after restart for mile or so. Why??? I was thinking to upgrade it for prime, but my bike will not fit inside without removing front wheel. Probably have to go with regular Prius even though Prime is much better looking. Thanks for the video
One thing I hate about the Prius Prime is it's not for sale in Australia.
New prius brother subscriber. Great video.
I understand your frustration but couldn’t the dealer help you with some of this?
Ev mode is turned on by pushing the middle of button twice. Not ev auto or drive mode.
You need to toggle the hv/ev mode. If you hold this button down for 2 or more seconds you also trigger the charge mode
Did you try press and holding the ev button?
You mentioned about the alternative car horn, can you tell us which one on Amazon please.

I see the horns are pretty long, can you show a picture where you placed them?
@@Orisman9 I don’t have the car anymore. But they fit right behind the grill in the open area where the existing horns are. You may have to remove one of the old horns to fit it right
@@Orisman9 and I did another video on this horn install. Not too detailed but should show some of it.

Thanks for this video!
#8- I gave up on entune after day 2. Really wish they could update with CarPlay
Avoid the XLE / high-end model. Get the low-end model with the simple display, CD player and physical vent controls. It is a lot better thought out than yours.
Actually I love my high end model and it came with the garage door opener built into the mirror and apple play
The only dumb decision Toyota made for the base model is not to include the keyless pad sensor to open the trunk. So every time you come with your groceries in your hands, you have to go tap the driver's side handle and then go to the trunk unless you want to take the key out of your pocket and press a button.
I turned off the reverse beep (2017 prime)
can the trunk height be adjusted when opening?
I don’t think so. Would be cool if it could be.
