Thanks for tips! My old deceased mom showed me how to do an old fashioned “peel n stick” that works great! We had to cover hideous kitchen wallpaper in rental! I bought inexpensive unbleached muslin material and Procion cold fabric dye and dyed it a nice dusty blue in washing machine. Ironed it. Got big bowl of fabric starch and dipped each piece in it and slapped it on the wall and smoothed and cut around it and let it dry!!! Looked great and lasted 3 years even with cooking steam. We moved and peeled each piece off!!! Then i used water and mopped walls and starch residue came right off!!! Deposit fully returned!!!
I used to use the wet paper towel hack for my cutting boards, but I found that I was wasting so much paper. Then one day, I bought a silicone baking mat and put it under the board. I have been using that instead ever since, and it works like a charm. No waste, no fuss.
Thanks for some great hacks. Here are a couple of things to try: * For the scissors hack at 37:50, instead of using aluminum foil to sharpen scissors, wash, dry, and save the little foil lids that come on single-serve apple sauce, coffee, and other foods. Then, when it's time to sharpen some scissors, cut one of them up and drop it into the recycle bin. * For removing labels from jars, fill the jar with hot water and then use hot water or your favorite method on the outside to remove the label while the hot water is still in the jar. Heat is glue's enemy.
I keep the used dryer sheets and use them to clean with. They wipe up dried washing powder liquid so easily, remove dust off of anything and yes have used them on baseboards, wet a little and clean off tennis shoes, etc. Great way to recycle and get extra uses out of them.
WOW!!!! I've been doing some of these things the hard way. Thank you so very much. I have lower back and hip pain, so I appreciate whatever shortcut you guys can help me with. Thanks everyone!!
Hi, I haven't seen the back pain one yet but I shall wait now to view. I was a Chiropractor and commonest problem is that overused muscles on one side hook the pelvic crest up making it look as if opposite side is down. Hence lumbar vertebrae nerves get irritated where weight bearing. (Very simple explanation) One or two sessions with gentle, not too expensive Chiro should realign everything. Trying to realign only with muscles can be long winded. But don't get taken for a ride by paying loads money for unnecessary treatments. Good luck.
I see a Chiropractor and love them(husband&wife team). And, they don’t charge per body part!! I have been seeing Chiropractor’s/Osteopath’s since the early 1980’s and if they tell you they charge X for extremities and Y for upper body, Z for neck & head: Run away as fast as you can!! I encountered this in Illinois! Happily back in CA with honest practitioners now. @victoryforever1915 there have been a lot of studies done lately regarding lower back/hip pain tied to estrogen loss post-menopause. Something to think about.
Family owned restaurant 85 years , I think ever trick in the book has been tried from goggles to a burnt match. Nope, nothing worked, lol My eyes still swell up
I learned the paper towel hack after sweeping over 50 years ago from my grandmother. I remember seeing her do this when I was a little girl. I used to help her. Lol I do that til this day. 😊
Using a damp/wet paper towel is a great way to pick up small pieces of broken glass. Just carefully wipe the area with the wet towel. You can place a dust pan or broom over the paper towel to avoid damage to your hand. ..... Maybe a wet sheet on your Swiffer will work also.
I used the draw-strings bags to house all the Dollar Tree items we put in the bag for a Blessing Bag for the homeless. We used the large zip lock bags to hold socks, 1 towel, 1 wash cloth, gloves, toboggan, hair scrunchies, etc. I used the zipper makeup bags placed feminine napkins, and tampons, feminine wipes, baby wipes, they're are so many other ways I used items as hacks to finish adding items to the bags to keep items together and not allow liquid items to leak into the bags. The bags were such a huge hit we're going to make small blessing bags to keep in your vehicle and hand them to homeless quickly when you see someone. They're so very appreciative when they receive them.
God bless you sweetie... As a Catholic studying to be a Christian minister (because for Catholics, it is a for women to speak in church)...I also used to be homeless and your wanting to help us comes from a pure heart...I thank you.
Retired Chef, here..I Like the toothbrush holder/lge flower -vase trick. It’s best to keep your onions in the fridge to preserve them perfectly and they will NEVER make you cry! Great tips all throughout this video. We got “Less chitty chat More quick tips!!” Also, vinegar destroys mold spores, so Ease-Up on the vinegar and use more water (you’re overkilling the hack unnecessarily) shake garlic cloves in a jar and they’ll lose their skins, quickly!
Love your handle! and tips! Did you mean to say that the vinegar is good because it kills mold spores but just use less? In the past I would use a Tbsp Clorox with a sinkfull of water, soak 5-10 mins rinse well, rubbing fruits, dry & refrigerate. Now I do the same except with 1/2-1cp standard kitchen white vinegar depending on fruit/veggies. Is that overkill?
An extra little hack with onions is when your hands have onion stink on them, or other stink, stank, stunk on them is to wash your hands with salt!! Takes away the pungent odor...
@@doylejodi7502how is it rude?? It was a sensible opinion, expressed quite politely. You're silly. And very sheltered. Or maybe that's your 1st day on TH-cam, or even on Internet, if you consider THIS rude 😂
I use my blow dryer on the high heat setting to remove labels. It works great. Just put the blower close to the label for about 30 seconds and it warms up the glue and then you can peel off the label. 😊
My Late Hubby used to work for the city police dept. When patrol cars and other fleet were going to be auctioned off, they used handheld hairdryers to apply heat to loosen the adhesive of the decals, then remove the decals and detail the vehicles for sale
Goo gone never fails me in taking off labels. When there is leftover stickiness/little bit of label left on the jar, I use the scrubby side of a two-sided sponge and Dawn dish detergent. As a side note regarding using peanut butter to remove labels, if it really worked, then get a cheap jar somewhere because I would not waste my good peanut butter on anything like that! 😁
Really enjoyed your "hacks" -- very simple but effective ways to make our lives a little easier and creative! As a further note to your frozen pancake mix, I don't freeze the batter. i make the pancakes (cook them ) and then wrap them individually before freezing. then I just pop them in the toaster when I want to eat them. (Stole that idea from eggos and pop tarts). Thanks for sharing your tips - will look up more of your videos now that I have seen this one.
Wonderful! The “string jar” can be done with an empty Parmesan container. The lid will also fit a mason jar. The holes work well with drinking straws. Blessings!
Very useful info. However, if you have a dust pan, use that and save the trees needed to turn out more and more paper towels. Thanks for all the great tips!
I rinse berries off, as usual, pat with paper towel, as usual, and put in a jar (Mason, old pasta, old pickle). Bought large container of blackberries as test, dated lid, and when I used them it had been 6 weeks and no mold. I did rinse and pat again. I loved some of these 👍
Wet paper towels are also great to pick up pieces of broken glass, especially tiny pieces. I always save my plastic coffee containers and tops and put the broken pieces in the container. Broken glasses seem to happen quite a bit with children and a husband ... haha. That keeps folks from getting cut when pushing garbage down to make room and cutting the garbage bag. Discard the covered coffee container into garbage bag or save to "add to".
Those fleece gloves are great for dusting everywhere. You can pick up your ornaments and Decima and put them back down and go along the bookshelf or wherever you’re picking them up from. I love that.
I knew about not mixing bananas with apples but only learned 4 years ago to wrap the tops of the bananas at the stalk where they are connected with a self sticking plastic wrap. This prevents the enzyme in that end from spreading down the fruit and ripening the fruit. I've found my bananas last at least twice as long by doing this as soon as I get them home from the store.😊 Thank you for some great hacks Liz!
@@helenswain6507because banana's emit gas that causes other fruits to ripen faster, especially apples and you can wrap the tops with plastic, a piece of tin foil or even paper towel as long as it prevents stem from being exposed to air which is why they go bad faster.
@@helenswain6507 According to my daughter, the enviro Scientist, when apples are picked they release a gas that signals they are dying which causes any fruits they are commingled with to excelente their rate of decomposition. 1 Bad Apple CAN spoil the whole bunch😊 And, oh the things we can learn from our children. Also Hot water breaks down the Chemical bonds in Bleach much quicker than cold water. Who knew? It is never printed on the labels. Cold water & less bleach do the trick for bleaching and sanitizing.
I use ice cube trays for keeping earrings separated. They go into a drawer with silver cloth over them (because most are silver). If you need smaller trays, get the ones made for mini fridges.
My favorite hack is the muffin tin ice cream hack! Wish I had know about that when I was teaching before retiring. Then serve all at once and equal servings!
Tip - Mason jar string holder: put the nail through on the inside of the lid. The “scooped” hole will go in the direction of the string, preventing snags.
Loved this! I have found that taking labels off are easy if you wet a paper towel with alcohol and lay across it and walk away a couple minutes. Works great!
Im 63 and if my parents had a very dusty job, they would use wet newspaper which works the best and paper towels as an alternative - the last 10 newspapers are harder to find. You can use old mail sheets, old homework sheets that kids just love to get rid of. Thought I share older hacks.
Great hacks, Liz! I prefer the yellow gloves for cleaning the blinds, using the comb to put a nail in the wall, using toothbrush holders to space out floral arrangements, and, pre-wetting an onion to cut with no tears. TFS!
You are so right about some glues not sticking when cold. I used to work for a major airline many years ago. One winter the entire system got new bag tags, you know the ones the agent puts on your bag handle when you check your bag? The new tags also had a new and "improved" glue on them. It was in the dead of winter and every flight that was landing in a city that had snow or was freezing (think Chicago in Feb.) landed with ALL of the tags missing from ALL of the bags because the new glue didnt stick! It was a logistical nightmare and took several days to reunite passengers with their bags in those cold cities!
Label removing: before trying themessy stuff, try freezing the container. Some adhesives don’t hold well in cold temperatures, and if they release, they will pop right off with no mess. Might not work on everything, but it’s a good one to try first. Steam from a kettle will take off some too.
Another great hack for fresh fruit and melons is to put an overripe banana in a paper bag with your melons when you buy them and leave tightly closed for a couple of days. The banana will ripen the melon just in the event it is not completely ripe. Melon will also be sweeter! This also works for peaches.
I make a compound butter with gahlik and cheffanade basil, pressed into heart shaped silicone candy molds. Great for an Italian wedding 💒 served with crusty warm bread 🍞 big hit!
BLIND CLEANING HACK … I use a standard tube sock. Put it on my hand, wet it in soapy water and clean away! It’s also “handy” 😉 that when it gets dirty I can swish it in the soapy water bucket to clean and clamp my fist to wring out easily.
The toothbrush holder you used for the floral arrangement actually mimics what they called frog glass vases used in the 60s. The frog vases however were very short in hieght. Many people see these in Goodwill or antique stores and don't know what they are. The toothbrush holder is also good for small makeup brushes.
Can you do a parenting edition? Like hacks to make taking care of children/toddlers/infants easier in different scenarios (home, traveling, daycare or preschool prep, social gatherings, etc.)?
I've used the Goo Gone GEL.... for yrs for removing labels an other clean up, love Mr Clean magic erasers for cleaning up things such as small kitchen appliances, my white leather sneakers, plastic lunch boxes more
The dollar bill measuring hack is great. Other measuring hacks: Measure parts of your body and put that info in a note on your phone. For example, measure the length and width of your hand, the distance from your wrist to the inside of your elbow, the length of your foot wearing a shoe, find a finger where the distance between joints is an inch, or measure the span between your thumb and little finger with your hand stretched out (mine is about 8 inches.) Find a small retractable tape measure at a hardware store and attach it to your key chain. You can make a foot or yard-long tape from paper, ribbon, string, or fabric, use a marker to add inches, and use a tiny binder clip to keep it folded or rolled in your purse. A credit card is about 3 1/2 x 2 1/8 inches. I’m actually pretty good at estimating sizes just by looking at something, but having a way to confirm my guesses helps.
J's sister here leaving a comment... I was going to suggest almost the same. I use a combination of methods, partly because not all glue types are the same. Heat is great, hot water inside and out by microwave. Most of the outer layer of paper comes off. Then a thin layer of greasy stuff, butter, peanut butter, hand lotion, mixture of lotion and hand sanitizer... put it back in the microwave then maybe with a few layers of paper towel so you don"t burn your hand shake and rub with Wheat Flour, rice flour, or baking soda
Also u can check the tape line before u make the holes in the wall by using a level across the top of the tape line 😊 this way u won't find out the tape line was hung slightly crooked afterwards .. Always measure twice / cut once (😅 or in this case holes once)
Great hacks!!! I have a couple tips: I sold adhesives....water is any adhesive's enemy. (we had expensive specialty adhesives for wet/outdoor use, obviously your pickle jar isn't going to use an expensive super sticky adhesive) Just submerge your jar in the sink in warm or hot water for 15-20 minutes and it'll usually fall off. If it's not all the way off, try resubmerging for another 15 minutes or try boiling water. Also the berries, I will totally try the vinegar hack! However the key to fresh berries is to keep them dry-don't put them in the container wet after washing like shown here.....dry them with a paper towel as much as you can and also a fresh dry paper towel on top of them before putting the lid on really helps keep them fresh. Same goes for lettuce, as the days go by, use a paper towel to re-dry it and also a fresh dry paper towel in the container before you put it away helps it from getting mushy or slimy!
Onion Hack: I started putting my onions in the fridge probably 30 years ago. If you don't have room for lots of onions like I have, then put a couple in your crisper, replacing with fresh ones when you use them. I never cry anymore since I started doing this. 😂😊
Never store in the Refrigerator: Onion, Garlic, Ginger, Cucumbers, Colored Peppers, uncooked Potatoes, Rice & Coffee. Moisture causes mold growth. Starch turns to sugar….
@@TRiUMPhant2024This is true as far as I know & also using left over onion days later is apparently not recommended ~ heard it on a cooking show😂 🧅 It all must be true then.lol😅😆
Loved many of the tips, but I really thought the straw/ neckless tip, the knife in rice and toothbrush holder in a vase were brilliant also paint name in light switch cover were great
I used the pool noodle for putting in water into my washing machine it is portable, and the hose did not fit right to my sink. But the pool noodle worked, and you can make it shorter. Now, I bought a larger one that is still portable one but I no longer have to add water for each cycle. I dropped the old one to goodwill and left the pool noodle in it with a note so they could use it.
I have used the gloves for blinds before, but I put each finger between four blinds and slide them sideways, cleaning four at a time. At the end, just a quick wipe down from top to bottom to get and bits left behind. Love your hacks!
I loved putting the mason jar into the larger vase for an arrangement. That is so simple! Also, with terra cotta pots, in order to avoid the moisture loss, I have spray painted with a clear spray paint and it seals up the clay so that I don't have to water the plant as often, and still maintain the terra cotta look I was going for.
19:45 or write the paint color on masking tape & put it in a binder with other info on your home. You can also put the masking or clear tape behind the switch plate & that way if you change colors you can peel the old piece of tape & replace it with a new one. If keeping a qt or gal of paint for touch ups be sure there's a sample on the lid and also write the paint brand, formulation & color on the lid as those mfgr labels fade and come off the cans easily. (Dont forget to shake the can once in a while. If it separates when you need to use it you can bring it to a hardware store and ask them to pit the can on their paint mixer. 20:33 limes on the way out can be peeled after using them to clean the sink. Put peels in a jar of white vinegar. Soak at least a few weeks. Discard peels into your compost pile or food scrap waste. The vinegar can be used to clean sinks, stoves, glass, anything that can handle vinegar.
I luv Diane she is epitome of a perfect mother and wife ! Carrying a huge load and continuing on. Life is unpredictable and change inevitable! But what we do in response to these changes is a true measure of a person's constitution and legacy! She will always be the strong one and Jon is also a vital part of Diane's well being! They are a great couple supporting ea other. I luv their show and watch it often ! Keep going both of you! You are an inspiration.
I do the same for chip clips, but I also keep some intact and place between my knees and use the other clip to hold yarn, sting or whatever I'm needing a third hand for to get started on projects ❤
I like your idea using a parmesan cheese shaker bottle to be a string holder and separator over the Mason jar to do that. No need to locate Mason jars, to glue the ring to the lid, or to make holes in a Mason lid. Also non breakable. The parmesan cheese lid comes snapped on the container already.
@@cass77788 This is about hacks to make life easier. It's not a frugal tips site. What if you don't have a cheese container??? Well, what if you don't have a Mason jar? Or a hammer? Nails? Tape? WTF.
For jar labels I put the hot water IN the jar, let it sit for a few minutes to soften the glue of the label, then peel the label off (sometimes I use a plastic hand scraper for this step) and then Lime essential oil on a paper towel removes the leftover adhesive. This is a toxin free way to remove labels from jars & containers I want to repurpose.
I do exactly the same to take the label off before I clean the jar and put it in the recycling bin. Because they want to recycle the glass jar. Not the jam all around the top.😂🇬🇧
For the Sharpie it’s nail polish remover not alcohol (to fast drying). Also store used Brillo in terra cotta saucer prevents rusting. To remover labels warm water spray with Dawn power spray sit 3 mins. Rewet, light spray label comes off instantly (can drip fingers in water as removing
Love your hacks. I've always burned the bottom of my candles and let the wax drip into the holder and then stick the candle in. Yours is much faster lol ❤
I find many of these hacks very useful. Thanks! Also....I love your kitchen! 😍 Put a paper towel in the bottom of you berries after you clean them. I grow my own blackberries. I put them in a bowl with a little apple cider vinegar, them put them in the container with a paper towel.
Great stuff. Definitely going to pass this on. As for the jars, set all of them in a sink of hot water for awhile. At least 15 min. Most labels come off that way. The residue can be removed with a spray lubricant (WD-40). Also recently I watch a friend remove a tape residue with rubbing alcohol!. ALL of these need to be allowed to set and give time to dissolve the adhesive. The last thing I’d recommend to help with removal is one of those plastic pot or bowl scrapers. They’re usually a free giveaway and stiff but won’t hurt your hands or damage your container. I’ve done this stuff ALOT!!
I use hydrogen peroxide to remove blood from clothing. And alcohol to dissolve inks on clothing. 😊 the alcohol swabs removes ink and dirt from plastics, n porcelain as well. 😊
The WD-40 makes the stainless sinks look like new. I use mineral oil on my cutting boards because natural oils like olive oil go rancid. I loved the herbs suggestion 😊
Another jar label release hack is to put the jar in the dishwasher with labels on, run the cycle, with a regular load so you don’t waste energy, when you’re cycle is finished, and you don’t need to hurry, take the jar out and your label will peel off as if it was a post it note. Just slowly go from one end to the other. Voila’! Thanks for sharing all your tips. 👍
Love these! For removing labels and sticky residue, I use mayonnaise. Goop a bit on the area, let it sit ‘till it discolors and use something like a brown, square Pampered Chef scraper to remove it. I'm a painter and I even used this hack on side light windows that have old glue that had seeped down over the years. Uses some elbow grease, but it worked! They had tried things in the past and none of it worked, so they were thrilled!
To get stubborn labels off jars you just soak them in hot soapy water (dawn dishwashing soap) overnight. For the remaining stubborn glue (if any), use a steel scratch pad to remove, then place that steel pad in a baggie and label it as "jar goo" so you don't accidently use it on pans for stovetop cooking as some of the transparent goo can get on inside of a skillet. Not much but I am sure even a little bit won't taste great with your morning eggs etc.
I use the same soaking method with Dawn (not over night (good idea), but a few hours at minimum). Some labels come off if I just drape a really wet dish rag on it for a couple of hours.
A great hack I learned when working as a Midwife in a hospital. Often the ink pens we had to use for note-writing would leak onto uniforms pockets. The best way to remove the inkstain was to rub with 70-95% hand cleanser. Removing paint from clothes and fabrics works well this way too. Old, set stains will be reduced but not removed.
My grandma taught me to use regular old bar soap and rub the material together with itself. It works awesome. For a harder stains, you can use a little bit of baking soda with the bar soap. Or you could just forget all that and buy a pocket protector lol do they even still sell those things? That was before my time, but they were popular in my Mom and dad’s era.
Thank you!! My closet hanger hacks lead to The closet hangers- you can use them for chip clips, if you have any magnets that have been broken take the magnets off and hot glue the magnet to of the clip. NOW YOU HAVE A MAGNETIC CLIP. Closet light up photo clips !! Take 3 long pant hangers and remove the metal piece by twisting off. If it's plastic, CAREFULLY, REMOVE the plastic hanger leaving the DBL clips connected. Take your DBL ended plastic piece, again, do not break the clips off just remove the arch that hangs. Pick your favorite paint colors 1-3 colors and begin painting each one allow to dry Or Take yarn of your choice and as you wrap the plastic between each clip you'll use hot glue to keep the yarn in place. Now, everything should be dried. Once so, you will take 2 of your 3 hanger clips and you'll creat an X!! THE THIRD ONE YOU WILL ADD ACROSS THE X, giving a fan like shape!!! Decide where it is going. Why?! If it is a family room, you can take a beautiful wallet- 3x7 picture of your choice and place it in the middle. The take 6 fun pics, memory clippings, ECT and clip those to the ends of each clip!!! Take a sting and make a u shape and hang!! If a kids room, use a toy for middle, or class photos !! REMEMBER BE CREATIVE, BE YOU YOU, THEY'LL ADJUST! 🎉
Here is two hacks for you. Sometimes the peanut butter will not blend together if you turn it upside down so what you can do is use the hand blender or scoop it all out and put it into any other kind of blender for a minute or less and then put it back in the jar it is worth the trouble and it stays together forever. Another one is if you want your food to last longer use glass containers for storage they will last at least three times longer and lots of times more than if you put it in plastic containers.
I love most of the "Hacks"! Warm or hot water for removing labels is what my mom taught me. As far as the residue, she used baby oil. The plus side is that your hands will be soft. You may have rewash the jars, but personally, it's worth it. ❤😊 P.S. I'm team chopsticks.
Also for the Onion hack. If you leave the ROOT on the onion while cutting it or cut from the root you won’t tear up. You can still cut whatever size onion needed leaving the root on. I saw this on a Gordon Ramsey TH-cam video. It works great.
I put scented oil on my vacuum filter and it holds the scent for a while. When the filter needs to be cleaned, I just take it out, wash it and add more oil. Works really well.
😊 I'm going to try the banana tip today . I'm finding that with the central heating on the bananas ripen so quickly . My mother-in-law used to cut the ends of the stalk off, leaving just a small amount, and that worked 😮
I love the candle hack with the elastics, I was using mini-doilies as they are attractive sticking out of the candlestick, but not handy for using real flame.. thanks so much for all the great ways to do things that I never thought of before.
Great hacks! To keep the blueberries even longer, put a paper towel piece below the blueberries after you wash them with the vinegar! (Soaks up extra water, which keeps them fresh). Works for all berries
OK so far my favorite hack and I know I’ve seen you do it before but you just reminded me of something I need to go to HomeGoods for lol the olive oil and the herbs frozen and put them in bags so that you can use them later because I struggle with that doesn’t matter how little I buy always manage wasting it so thanks for the reminder! What did you do with that lime after you scrub the sink? You have a disposal. Tell me you put that down in the disposal to refresh the smell and your disposal! I what are you doing again? Word of the day “ hacks” So for your last tech, yes, I would use boiling water and maybe maybe a little Dawn dishwashing soap maybe! But then after you peel it off if you still have sticky on, it takes him rubbing alcohol, and it’ll removed adhesive!
I put my lettuce in a zip lock and add paper towels inside with it and my lettuce lasts forever, I change out the paper towels as they get to damp and the lettuce stays crisp for week's
In Australia we use Eucalyptus Oil to take labels off glass jars. Works exceptionally well. I am not sure how available this is in other countries. Thank you for so many interesting hacks.
Thank you for sharing your secrets! Also- to keep necklaces from tangling- (also- ear-bud cords) I loosely wrap a chenille stem (OG pipe-cleaner) around the fussy sections. Works for travel, or storage. And with corded earbuds, I leave the pipe-cleaner(s) there. HUGE hiss fit prevention. 😅
I have a hack for the leftover wax in a candle jar. I LOVE the bath and body candles…small and large. When there is a tiny bit of wax in the bottom, I put it in the freezer overnight. Remove it from the freezer and lay it upside down on your counter. As the jar thaws the leftover wax will pop out. If you live the candle jar..like I love them…(the pretty ones I cannot throw away’, wash the jar in dawn dishwater by hand to remove any leftover wax and remove the label on the bottom of the jar. Sometimes, I use the jars ( especially the ones with lids) for candy. If the jar is holiday themed, I use holiday candies. You can use the jars for several things and they always look pretty around your home.
Thanks for great hacks. I like your herb bombs idea. Will definitely try it. When I have fresh herbs such as dill or parsley, I chop them and put into a small jar which I keep in the freezer. When I need some fresh dill on my cooked potatoes, I scoop some of it from the jar on the buds and voila, I have a tasty garnish for my dish.
To get your candles to stand straight simply heat the end slightly so it begins to melt. Stick it back in the holder straight and let the wax cool. It will stick to the holder so the candle no longer moves.
You shouldn't wash your blueberries before you put them in the fridge. The trick to making blueberries last longer is to put them in a mason jar with a folded paper towel on top. Only wash the berries as you intend to use them.
I wash my berries in white vinegar and water. Dry completely on paper towels, and then put in refrigerator in a container with air holes. They last a LONG time without molding.
I used to use the clips too for chips . You can also use them on a clothes line. It works, and also glue a magnet on the back and works for a reminder clip on the fridge.
Thanks for tips! My old deceased mom showed me how to do an old fashioned “peel n stick” that works great! We had to cover hideous kitchen wallpaper in rental!
That’s wild
Wow, that sounds like a great hack to try🙂
I used to use the wet paper towel hack for my cutting boards, but I found that I was wasting so much paper. Then one day, I bought a silicone baking mat and put it under the board. I have been using that instead ever since, and it works like a charm. No waste, no fuss.
Whoa. You've just changed my life! Thanks.
Thank you 😊
Use a towel under cutting board, it works just as good.
I also use thin silicone mats for cutting boards. Makes it so easy.
I use a dish towel, don't need anything else....
Thanks for some great hacks. Here are a couple of things to try:
* For the scissors hack at 37:50, instead of using aluminum foil to sharpen scissors, wash, dry, and save the little foil lids that come on single-serve apple sauce, coffee, and other foods. Then, when it's time to sharpen some scissors, cut one of them up and drop it into the recycle bin.
* For removing labels from jars, fill the jar with hot water and then use hot water or your favorite method on the outside to remove the label while the hot water is still in the jar. Heat is glue's enemy.
Great tips!!! Out of curiosity, does the rice trick work for stainless steel knives?
I just soak the glass jar in water for a few days, label comes off, and I scrape the residue easily with plastic brillo
I keep the used dryer sheets and use them to clean with. They wipe up dried washing powder liquid so easily, remove dust off of anything and yes have used them on baseboards, wet a little and clean off tennis shoes, etc. Great way to recycle and get extra uses out of them.
Husband’s clothing is always full of saw dust from work so I wouldn’t do that. Little bits of wood are sometimes embedded.
I save mine as well, but use them to clean out my ashtray. It's just abrasive enough and leaves it with a fresher scent 😊
Yes ur right about them picking up dust.....also shaving cream and or alcohol works great for cleaning windows no streaks
Place the sharpies upside down in a container to keep the ink in the pointer end.
I use them to remove soap scum from the sink and shower. Works great and is easier.

Thank you so much
Cut any onion without tears by just keeping your mouth closed as you cut. Learned while working in a restaurant kitchen. Amazing
Chew gum, same principle.
Wet dish cloth does same.
Thank you.
Also, wear a pair of sunglasses. Don’t know how but it does work!!
Or stand an electrical fan while you're cutting the onion, and that blows the fumes away.😂🇬🇧
Family owned restaurant 85 years , I think ever trick in the book has been tried from goggles to a burnt match. Nope, nothing worked, lol
My eyes still swell up
For the wobbly candles, if you burn the end a bit, the melted wax will keep the candle steady once you place it back in the holder.
I used to do that but it doesn’t always work great.
No, I know, but I always try anyway in case. @@doylejodi7502
This hardly ever works and I don’t always want my tapers burned down
Then don't do it. Jeez!@@D_Parks

I learned the paper towel hack after sweeping over 50 years ago from my grandmother. I remember seeing her do this when I was a little girl. I used to help her. Lol I do that til this day. 😊
I do, too!
Have been doing this for years.
Less chitty chatty? Rude.
For flowers I use a container that gel air freshener balls with the vented grid lid inside a large vase. I also use them for a paintbrush holder
I use my blow dryer on the high heat setting to remove labels. It works great. Just put the blower close to the label for about 30 seconds and it warms up the glue and then you can peel off the label. 😊
Thanks great idea
WD40 works well on labels after soaking in hot water
My Late Hubby used to work for the city police dept. When patrol cars and other fleet were going to be auctioned off, they used handheld hairdryers to apply heat to loosen the adhesive of the decals, then remove the decals and detail the vehicles for sale
I use baby oil to remove labels.
Iso alcohol removes the excess glue instead of scrubbing it off!
Your delivery is friendly, succinct and to the point. One of the best home hacks I've seen on here.
I agree! ❤
I put the jars with labels in 47:25 my soapy dish water and the labels soak off and I use Goo Gone to remove the little bit of glue left.
When you have Pompous grass you can spray it with hairspray to prevent shedding. Love you and all you do! 🙏💜

I like how you are willing to try out suggestions and give an honest opinion. Also, you get right to the point!🏆
Yes, and x50! I do love her presentation ✔️ snappy & happy 😃
Wonderful! The “string jar” can be done with an empty Parmesan container. The lid will also fit a mason jar. The holes work well with drinking straws. Blessings!
Wow! I didn't know a parm lid fitted a Mason jar! Cool to know 😎
I put flour in a small mason jar with the parm lid and use it to dust the counter before rolling dough, or to make gravy.
Very useful info. However, if you have a dust pan, use that and save the trees needed to turn out more and more paper towels. Thanks for all the great tips!
I have used a wooden clothespin for holding a nail while pounding it. Works good too.

I was sold by the butter hack👍 you're awesome keep them coming.
That is my favorite hack here
I knew about not mixing bananas with apples but only learned 4 years ago to wrap the tops of the bananas at the stalk where they are connected with a self sticking plastic wrap. This prevents the enzyme in that end from spreading down the fruit and ripening the fruit. I've found my bananas last at least twice as long by doing this as soon as I get them home from the store.😊 Thank you for some great hacks Liz!
Why can apples and bananas not be kept together... I've heard about the tape on the banana stalk, does it really work?
I noticed the last few times I bought bananas at Krogers, stems were wrapped with plastic wrap!
@helenswain6507 bananas give off a gas which quickly ripens other fruits
I use ice cube trays for keeping earrings separated. They go into a drawer with silver cloth over them (because most are silver). If you need smaller trays, get the ones made for mini fridges.

Soaking the jars in hot, soapy water has typically worked for me. Loved all the hacks. GREAT!
Tip - Mason jar string holder: put the nail through on the inside of the lid. The “scooped” hole will go in the direction of the string, preventing snags.
Sharp edges. Just sayin.

HACKS
Fantastic Ideas esp. the pillowcase for cleaning the ceiling fan !! Also the “Towel Rack” could serve to dry plastic freezer bags after washing !
Coconut oil with baking soda mixed in a paste removes labels like a charm.

Another great hack for fresh fruit and melons is to put an overripe banana in a paper bag with your melons when you buy them and leave tightly closed for a couple of days. The banana will ripen the melon just in the event it is not completely ripe. Melon will also be sweeter! This also works for peaches.
Putting a banana in a paper bag with tomato will make the tomato turn redder. It doesn't have to be an overripe banana, can be any banana.

LOVE the toothbrush holder as an artificial flower arrangement tool!
The toothbrush holder you used for the floral arrangement actually mimics what they called frog glass vases used in the 60s. The frog vases however were very short in hieght. Many people see these in Goodwill or antique stores and don't know what they are. The toothbrush holder is also good for small makeup brushes.
When I was little my mom told me they were frogs and I didn't believe her lol 😆

I've used the Goo Gone GEL.... for yrs for removing labels an other clean up, love Mr Clean magic erasers for cleaning up things such as small kitchen appliances, my white leather sneakers, plastic lunch boxes more
The dollar bill measuring hack is great. Other measuring hacks:
Measure parts of your body and put that info in a note on your phone.
Gloves look easier to get to the dust and get in-between the strings too. Love your videos ❤
Love your tips. As for removing labels from jars, applying heat from a blow dryer directly to the label for a few seconds works best for me.
Use Eucalyptus oil to remove the residue. 🙂
Lemon essential oil removes goop from labels beautifully
Merry Christmas, enjoy this beautiful season with your family.

Thanks Liz. Love all the great hacks. Can’t wait to try the painters tape to hang pictures.
Also u can check the tape line before u make the holes in the wall by using a level across the top of the tape line 😊 this way u won't find out the tape line was hung slightly crooked afterwards ..
Always measure twice / cut once (😅 or in this case holes once)
The ice in the foil pan is great for keeping peel-and-eat shrimp at a safe temperature during a party!
I always keep my onions in the frig and sometimes they make you cry and other times they don't. Do you know why they make you cry and other not?
Lighting a candle and having it burn very near to where you're cutting the onion will stop the tears most of the time.
Never store in the Refrigerator:
Onion, Garlic, Ginger, Cucumbers, Colored Peppers, uncooked Potatoes, Rice & Coffee. Moisture causes mold growth. Starch turns to sugar….
@@TRiUMPhant2024This is true as far as I know & also using left over onion days later is apparently not recommended ~ heard it on a cooking show😂 🧅 It all must be true then.lol😅😆
The onion juice smell is what makes your eyes water. Keeping it cold makes the juice less runny so it shouldn't get to your eyes.
What a thoughtful thing to do!😄
I have used the gloves for blinds before, but I put each finger between four blinds and slide them sideways, cleaning four at a time.
Great video. Here's a hack, do not wear white red yellow bathing suits because they attract the sharks.
Look it up.😮
I spray painted inside. 👍
Terracotta pots are good for cacti and succulents.

Love the herb flavor bomb idea, and definitely agree with the gloves being more effective for cleaning blinds.
WD40 is great for removing glue goo!
Spray sticky label with all purpose cleaner. Cover with plastic wrap. Let sit for 3 hours to overnight. Wipes right off.
Straight rubbing alcohol is best!
Wash in cold water
My grandma taught me to use regular old bar soap and rub the material together with itself. It works awesome. For a harder stains, you can use a little bit of baking soda with the bar soap. Or you could just forget all that and buy a pocket protector lol do they even still sell those things? That was before my time, but they were popular in my Mom and dad’s era.
They do still sell them

The closet hangers- you can use them for chip clips, if you have any magnets that have been broken take the magnets off and hot glue the magnet to of the clip.
Pick your favorite paint colors 1-3 colors and begin painting each one allow to dry
Or
Take yarn of your choice and as you wrap the plastic between each clip you'll use hot glue to keep the yarn in place.

Word of the day “ hacks”
So for your last tech, yes, I would use boiling water and maybe maybe a little Dawn dishwashing soap maybe! But then after you peel it off if you still have sticky on, it takes him rubbing alcohol, and it’ll removed adhesive!
Banana's last longer is you break them away from the stock holding them together I heard but haven't yet tried it.
I was going to say that too about also putting a paper towel in the bottom
I put my lettuce in a zip lock and add paper towels inside with it and my lettuce lasts forever, I change out the paper towels as they get to damp and the lettuce stays crisp for week's
In Australia we use Eucalyptus Oil to take labels off glass jars. Works exceptionally well. I am not sure how available this is in other countries. Thank you for so many interesting hacks.
Best way to take off lables

Lemon oil or juice also works
Yes we do! Eucalyptus oil is the best plus it smells great!
Thank you for sharing your secrets!
Also- to keep necklaces from tangling-
(also- ear-bud cords) I loosely wrap a chenille stem (OG pipe-cleaner) around the fussy sections.
Thanks for that one. I will definitely use for my parsley plant I have growing.
Thank you so much
To get your candles to stand straight simply heat the end slightly so it begins to melt.
Paper towel on top of blueberries does work to keep them fresh longer.
The hack she used is really fir blackberries and raspberries!

I've been doing the hanger hack for chip bags for years works great!
