  • It's been hecka long but hello -- my Grandma is back with ANOTHER TRADITIONAL CHINESE VIDEO!!! This time, CHINESE TAMALE!
My grandma had two ingredients/steps that were not shown in the video because is the SECRET INGREDIANT! The red/black herbs that got rubbed onto the pork belly and how the leaves were prepped before hand. The leaf prepping can be found online but unfortunately those black herbs were brought back from China and grown on my Grandma's balcony.

Hearing your grandmother speaking brought tears to my eyes. It reminded me so much of both my grandmothers. I never got the chance to learn how to make these.
    Thank you for sharing.

Omg watching this video reminds me so much of my popo, down to the dialect and the mannerisms and the kindness in her voice. And yes, our family uses those black herbs too! This is the first video that I've seen where someone uses them as well. Thanks so much for sharing!

I don’t know if it’s because it’s 4am but it brought me to tears. I rarely leave comment on here, but you’re very fortunate to have a grandma to teach you this, it made me miss my grandma. Thank you for sharing this wonderful video.

My mom just passed away and these look just like hers. I regret that I never asked her to teach me how to make these. Thank you for posting this, I will give it a shot.

Miss these as no love ones around anymore who can make them - I went to Chinatown to buy some but unfortunately they cheap it out using either only peanuts or red beans as the filling. :(

Thank you very much for sharing! Fantastic video. What are the ‘leaves’ called added in the joong at the 3:20min mark? Where can you find them usually? Would love to try this out.

SM W. I have no idea! My grandma grows it herself and they are very unique to her recipe. I would try the recipe out regardless, it will still taste amazing!
