    I'm not an Ultra runner, but a pretty serious marathon runner and love my Apple Watch Ultra 1. To have the option to listen to music, call for assistance if needed and stay in touch even on my 30K+ runs is amazing - and big bright display and great GPS accuracy. Would love them to implement the running maps more serious though

      So do you recommend me to use ultra more than Garmin 965? I just started training for marathons but I don’t know too much about watches. As I understand, with apple I can answer my phone calls but I need internet and garmin can’t correct?

    • @UltraTrailSteven

      @@williamrietveldt5477 both watches would be fine for training for a marathon. With Apple Watch Ultra 2, as long as it is connected to your iPhone, you can answer calls and text while running. That has been so nice when running in the cold with gloves on. I can raise my wrist and ask Siri to text my wife during an activity. I love it!

    Def getting the new ultra watch 2. Just ran the Chicago Marathon this past weekend and my Apple Watch 7 died at mile 25 and some change. Just has the gps and Spotify play list and not having my jams at the tail end just sucked! Plus I didn’t get my Strava Marathon credit lol. Still, got a 3:06 so stoked none the less

    Just purchased this watch, my third Apple Watch, wanted this one due to longer battery life, I watch your video on the fitness app, and downloaded workoutdoors app, , but didn’t know how to stop it , when done running, watched your video several times, and thought you showed to stop workout was to push both buttons at the same time, didn’t work , by just pushing everything then discovered , pinch the screen did the trick , so frustrating, but finally got it to stop , loved the info it provided

    • @UltraTrailSteven
      @UltraTrailSteven  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting. For me I push both the Action button and Side button simultaneously pauses the activity for me. Then I have to hold down my finger on the screen for 2 seconds and I can select end workout.

    That battery life is the one thing that gets me. I have one of almost everything Apple makes aside from the watch. Once they have competitive battery life though I think it will be a watch to rule them all.

    • @UltraTrailSteven
      @UltraTrailSteven  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I agree. If they put out an Ultra 3 or whatever with 40 hours of workout battery life, then it will take over the GPS running watch market.

    Spot on review, Steven. I loved my COROS watch - but being a busy father/business professional, the smartwatch features Apple offers are so helpful....hard to pass it up. I have been a runner for 15 years and greatly miss having a running focused watch too. For some reason, the Apple Watch just doesn't cut it in this department (for the reasons you stated). I don't like adding on apps to cover these areas myself, but there are workarounds of course. I've tried to have two watches, but I just can't hang. Also frustrating that the only POD that works with Apple Watch is Stryd (which is quite pricy). I'd love to gain some accuracy on the treadmill without having to drop close to $300. Thanks man - keep up the great work!

    I have it for 6 month and I like it.
    Two apps are must IMO for using this watch as a runner
    WorkOutDoor and Athylitic.
    The first for the workouts and maps and the second for recovery and metrics calculations on your overall wellbeing.
    Battery is no issue for me we all take a Shower 20-30 minutes once in a day or 2 its all what needed.
    It’s a nice to have cellular capabilities without having to carry the phone for short runs and such.

    Nice review! It's always fun to go over the gadgetry that we use while running.
    I think Apple purposefully holds back features to try not to Sherlock the entire app industry, but you are right, its a bit frustrating to not have these things out of the box.
    Will be interesting to see how it handles No Business in low power mode.
    Happy Running this weekend.

    I do Ironman and the battery lasts perfectly (I'm not a pro who does them in less than 10 hours).
    I've also seen people do UTMB with the AWU2, so yes, it's a watch perfectly capable of long distances.

    I’ve had a few Apple Watches in the past I didn’t keep them long until the series 5 came out and from that point on I was hooked I skipped the 6 and got the 7 which was fantastic unfortunately I had to get rid of it and I got a ultra 2 about a month ago very great watch I recently tested the dive and waypoints they are spot on and help so much it makes you feel like you a a top secret gadget

    I’m deep in the Apple ecosystem and have had many Apple Watches over time. Most recently tried the original AWU and the now the second generation for a few weeks.
    Ultimately went back to Garmin. Maybe different than most, it wasn’t for battery life, rather the ergonomics of buttons on the Garmin lineup. The single action button on the AWU just isn’t enough.

    • @UltraTrailSteven

      I am deep within the Apple ecosystem too, and have had an Apple watch in the past. My Fenix 7X 51mm Sapphire (when I bought mine, the Epix Pro 51mm was not available) was the first foray into the Garmin range.
      I was really hopeful about what the Ultra-2 would come up with, purely from a battery life improvement perspective.......and Apple did not fail to disappoint. Even if there was a week of battery life with the Ultra-2, I would have been sold. I am now seriously looking at the Epix Pro 51mm Sapphire.

    • @JasonRaneses
      @JasonRaneses ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OBrandt-i5c I had an Epix 2 (non pro) for a while and liked it quite a bit. That 47mm size is the closest parallel to the Ultra if you are looking to go smaller this time around.
      And unless you are heavily using mapping, 47mm is subjectively an easier everyday wear, plus the added benefits of something with less of a footprint during sleep tracking.
      On my end, I decided to go with a MiP this time around, currently rocking a Fenix 7 Pro Sapphire Solar 47mm.

    • @NealMcQuaid
      @NealMcQuaid ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@UltraTrailStevenApple focuses on the masses, not the niche. Hence 30m diving limit, and setting battery life to meet the mainstream so that battery life works for most. Having said that, it does sound like they have more optimisations to come to the ultra-low-power mode (that 100 hour battery life mode with 3-minute GPS recording: make that every 15-30-45-60 second options and you suddenly have a very interesting capability of 20-80 hours…. And as their mapping gets better, the snap-to-route would cover the gaps).
      Personally, I’d love a ‘widescreen' Apple Watch - bigger battery, more screen estate for maps and metrics, etc. but this wouldn't also sell to the masses so there's no chance they'll do it 🙂
