Man this was unfair for the thing.
    - its main ability taken away (lets be real, makes no sense for it to not be able to assimilate xenos. Xeno facehuggers (silicon) infect human hosts (carbon) and make them produce xeno drones (silicon). No way the thing wouldnt be able to use its carbon body to produce silicon bodies/organs once it gets xeno dna).
    - faced with impossible numbers of xenos
    - 0 time to adapt
I still think the thing would stand a better chance than this.
    The xenos are just animals.
The thing is 2000 iq at least.
From making flamethrowers, explozives, etc to turning to near liquid form to hide from the xenos until they leave, it would find a way to at the least escape.

Yeah the main issue was the thing couldn't assimilate silicone. But what is never said about the thing is that we don't know if it can or can't assimilate silicone.

Taking away the things assimilation is like taking away Xenos acid blood. That's ridiculous, even when the AI scripted it in the first fight where it COULD assimilate, the thing won. It's really not even the thing if I can't assimilate, this is such a silly premise.

Well, neither one of them like the flamethrower. And the thing was totally destroyed by it.

I see a lot of disagreements among the two fan bases. Some swear by the xenomorph and others argue that The Thing should be able to assimilate even them.
By the lore established by the respective franchises, it is easy to see that the xenomorph poses more than a threat to The Thing. There are parts of the xenomorph that The Thing can definitely assimilate. The xenomorph was made by a synthetic person named David (according to Alien: Covenant), through experimentation with The Black Goo and the DNA of Elizabeth Shaw. The Black Goo isn't just some random oil slick, it's actually itself very similar to The Thing and yet very different from what The Thing can normally assimilate.
The Black Goo will mutate anything it comes in contact with, and it was only through much experimentation that David managed to create the xenomorph. But the keyword here was DNA. Yes! The xenomorph was created with DNA and that's what The Thing CAN assimilate. There are fleshy bits to the xenomorphs that The Thing can assimilate. But there are also silicon based parts to the xenomorph that it can not assimilate.
The Thing can NOT assimilate the acidic compound of xenomorph blood, because it's not blood. It's acid. But it CAN assimilate the exterior hard shell of the xenomorph and the claws. This gives it an exterior protection against the acid. But the interior of The Thing would still be vulnerable to the acid.
The Thing can still win by brute force if it only manages to assimilate one of the xenomorphs. But it would have to be very resilient it would be a long and drawn out fight.

The Thing is conscious on a cellular level. You can drop the Thing in a meat grinder and it'll just form itself back together. Guessing the only way the Aliens could truly beat the Thing is if they ate it.

THE THING VS THE FLOOD(halo)! both carbon based shapeshifters would be epic!

    • @Kanerudo
      @Kanerudo 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

As long as The Things creates a form with a nervous system, the Flood can win. However, without a nervous system, the Flood could only turn the Thing into biomass
The Thing on the other hand seems to be able to absorb anything with DNA.
So I'd say if there is no gravemind or proto-gravemind (and of course no way to use fire), the Thing would win the fight while the whole area (planet or moon) is still infected with Flood Super Cells (FSC). IF the Thing is able to mimic microscopic organisms like the FSC, it would also infect those making the whole area deady with Thing Super Cells (TSC) or collecting all TSC into one Thing form
Otherwise it'd coulb a draw with the Thing as the hunter and the FSC ruling the air and waiting for new victims to infect.
If there would be a proto-gravemind or even a gravemind, the Flood might be able to trap and kill the Thing

The xenomorphs didn't sterilise the deck plates. The thing still lives. 🤔
Edit: also, certain forms of litchen can break down silicates in rocks for sustenance, certain archae can metaboliss acid, so even if the thing can't assimilate the xeno's, it could infect and consume them as a more conventional food source on the cellular level.
That's the thing about "the thing" it doesn't end with its monsterous macro-forms.
It's entirely possible that in the weeks following the fight, the hive suffered total collapse due to illness from a myriad of infections caused by the thing.

Meaning that acid blood would NOT prevent it from consuming, assimilating and replicating it. AND…. Let’s take into account and absolute consideration that The Thing can divide itself. Meaning that once it can replicate the Xenomorph… it can become a horde of Xenomorphs.

There is also one thing further to consider! At what point in the life of this thing, was it a simulation of other creatures? If it had only assimilated rabbits and squirrels, for example it wouldn’t be a threat we know what to expect from the alien. It is a constant, but the saying is dependent on what the simulates which puts it as an unknown potential Victor. Finally, I don’t recall in either one of the movies that the thing has the ability to assimilate, intelligent or memories.

You mean from the Wishmaster horror movies? I posted on another thread that the Wishmaster loses to most really clever magical opponents because his glaring weakness is that he technically still has to give you what you request and he is defeated if a very clever person who really has a good command of language very carefully phrases a wish in such a way that it cannot be "ruined" by him. He was defeated in the 1st movie when the protagonist wished that the person who accidentally freed him had not had any alcohol to drink that day (he was drunk and clumsy while operating a fork lift) and the Genie ended up ruined from that wish.
Seems like any very clever magical being could pull something similar off if a regular human with maybe above average intelligence like the main character of the first movie filmed about 30 years ago could.

They could self sacrifice themselves while climbing/hanging from above to be killed and have their acid destroy the Thing. HOWEVER, how would the Xenomorphs know about doing this? The most likely outcome is the result of the first one. The biggest question is could the acid from the Blob overcome the Thing? OR does digesting the Thing allow the cells from it to copy the Blob?

I did some digging. Silicon is known to be required by chicks and rats for growth and skeletal development. Silicate, or silicic acid (H4SiO4), is an important nutrient in the ocean. Humans use silicon, too.
Silicon is in the same group as carbon and has a lot of the same properties when it comes to bonding with other atoms. However, the potential bonds available for silicon are more limited, which is why on Earth it tends to form rocks rather than organic chemistry. Carbon-silicon bonds are absent in biology, however enzymes have been used to artificially create carbon-silicon bonds in living microbes.
I see no reason why the thing could not assimilate organic chemistry based on silicon. It even might already have some level of resistance to the acid somewhere in it's genetic library if it has ingested the bacteria thriving in acidic conditions. It could likely even imitate organisms that were based on ammonia instead of water.
If I were the thing, I would just let a face hugger attack me and assimilate the egg, or kill a Xenomorph under water to dilute the acid. Silicon sea food.

After late night watching John Carpenter's "The Thing" movie many years ago I couldn't sleep. It was the only time I was totally freaked out after watching a horror movie. Since then this monster is the only thing that cause the shivers go down my spine whenever I see the movie title in a TV programme schedule or on a website article. But this scenario gave me some kind of relief, soothe my fear of The Thing... haha :) I was imaging scared The Thing monster, while listening your story, being unable to assimilate its opponent, effectively fight back and eventually escaping from it made me smile for the rest of the day. I wish I saw some animation or a short video just to see The Thing's attempt to escape in fear from an opponent it can't defeat, to see its fright and panic, to see it being beated as painfully as possible, to hear its screams until it is reduced to a bloody mass of flesh and broken bones. And let's not forget to incinerate its remains :)
My thoughts about the possible encounter - I watched both videos, read many comments and started thinking.
Xen's acidic blood is a serious barrier for TT. If TT would be able to grow resistanse to it by itself TT will need a lot of time and probably a couple attempts to improve it. But Xens don't give a break to their pray and would shower TT with their acid spits.
Does being a silicon-based life form automaticaly make it immune to TT's assimilation ?? We don't know what elements build TT's cells. And we don't know what life forms TT had assimilated before it crashed on Earth. Have you ever heard about arsenic biomolecules in bacteria where a phosphorus atom is replaced with arsenic ?? :) I think If TT would be able to assimilate Xen's body it would take much longer than consuming traditional carbon-based organism. But, again, Xens are always in rush and would destroy TT body before the assimilation process starts. OR TT's flesh's remains will slowly take over unwashed Xens' bodies , gradually accelerating assimilation due to TT's adaptive capabilities.
    That's all for now.

That twisted, mangled mess of flesh and bone can reform itself and then rush off to the spaceship.
The humans had a poor showing, simply walking up to the thing one by one to be absorbed. They should have had weapons (that the thing could use against some of the xenomorphs), and if one of them was attacked by the thing the others could rush back to their spaceship and leave the thing to fight the xenomorphs with one or two guns. The thing should have quickly found out that it could not assimilate a xenomorph and then used its escape option (if the humans didn't take the ship).

Hmm Not sure after watching both videos if there is data to call a fight between both, the thing with increased intelligence attacks a hive of xenomorph's and where did all the hordes of drones come from if the thing had already been assimilating human lives, plus does the thing stay in one form or make many forms with more genetic materials? does it grow in size? in the first video it takes on more then xenomorphs dna or cells with the other life forms on the Icy moon, the factors keep changing and why do we now know it can't assimilate silicon life forms? maybe I have to much time on my hands to think about this, great video series and love the artwork is crazy good maybe start a shop for prints of artwork.

Let’s have a tiebreak when “Scripted by machines” is up for it. I don’t mind The Thing’s being able to assimilate an alien (silicon vs carbon be damned) and develop an immunity to the acid blood. That’s fine. But a “Thing” alien would still be susceptible to “blunt force trauma” (as demonstrated in the 1982 movie) and so it becomes a question of whether the alien hordes could inflict enough blunt force trauma damage on The thing before it assimilated the hive. I vote for a rubber match.

  • @pavelslama5543
    @pavelslama5543 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

The problem with this is that the xenomorphs cannot be a fully silicon-based life form. Why? There is not enough silicon for that. Humans are carbon based, all the plants and animals are carbon based, and unless the xenomorphs relentlessly hunt for all the semiconductors, glass panels and similar, they have little chance of getting enough silicon. And that doesn´t even take into account that practically all forms of silicon are in a stable form, meaning that no organism no matter its biology just cannot get any energy by digesting it. To the contrary. Eating a glass panel or a silicon semiconductor would cost a lot of energy to morph into anything useful.
And considering that the xenomorph begins its life by growing inside carbon based organisms, they cannot be anything else than a carbon based organism (that is, unless they have fusion reactor in their body).

Seems like a much more plausible ending. The thing was never shown to be able to absorb inorganic objects just like in the movies. The alien drones are made of silicone and theoretically cannot be consumed. Even in the movies; the Thing was unable to absorb non-carbon based objects like teeth cavity fillings, metal, and such. This should had been the true ending.

I don't buy it. The Thing wouldn't have to imitate a xenomorph to develop a resistance to the acid. There are carbon based forms that can do that. Plus, the xenomorphs would have to destroy every cell, with "acidic saliva", which I've never heard of them having.

Honestly this rematch sucked. This isn’t towards this channel or anything. But the people who don’t believe that the thing would get into the hive because of the acid blood. It would still be able to take on some of its DNA which would make it immune. You’re thinking the blood would destroy it all but you’re forgetting every cell of the thing acts on its own. Meaning a part of it will be hit with the acid but another would get ahold of its outter layer (AvP as reference). Think of it this way, you can literally get your ID from a finger nail. You don’t think that the thing could use that from the xeno? Any piece of it outter layers and use it? Come on

Even in this scenario where Thing couldn't win against them, it still wouldn't be killed by them. It would be impossible for them actually. The thing needs to be destroyed completely down to the atomic level for it to truly be dead. It takes only one cell or so for it to keep going. Those flamethrowers Mac used probably didn't even fully do the trick, just rendered them inert.
What is established in the prequel is that it can't replicate inorganic material.
Not a biologist but is Xenomorphs merely Silicon based or made of silicon? (if there is a difference in that)
Because the latter would definitely be inorganic, at least as I understand it. If it is only silicon-based, they may still have organic traits. Plus they do implant chestbursters in carbon based life and they do take traits, So any part of them that is organic would be assimilated.

The thing could assimilate silicone in the first match but cannot in the rematch? What? Why? Simply to appease alien fans? If there was something the thing could not assimilate (metal) it would've been part of the John Carpenter film, for instance: metal.
Silicone is pretty close to carbon on the chart is it not? Why is it that silicone cannot be assimilated by the thing? I would think even an alien fan would be disappointed by this newly added plot twist just to make it all even-Steven.
