There are a lot of people who complain and want to pick at every little detail in a video. Let them have their opinions, I know you mean well and so do you. Enjoy your times out there and make the best of it man you’re killing it!!! Hope you have a killer season!
Happy to see you out there having some success after a rough end to 2024! Im interested to hear what tippet/fluoro/lb test line you use cause it looks like you were really giving them the business there. Best of luck in the weeks to come!
@thegavinbradley1 It doesn't cast easy. But I use a straight piece of 15 pound test Trout Hunter fluorocarbon. Stuff is unbreakable, you'll bend your hooks out first. I use their 'Big Game' .285 mm stuff
Never apologize for gatekeeping when it comes to protecting spots. It benefits literally everyone when we do this. It's better for the river, the banks, the fish, the serious anglers, and even the noobs. Half the battle of becoming an experienced angler is learning the hard way by yourself. Exploring and fishing the wrong water is part of the game. This is true for all fishing, but winter steelhead above almost all the rest.
agreed, fishing is like the one aspect of life ive never been mad at people gatekeeping for. Get out there and explore and find spots for yourself, it's genuinely a huge part of the fun. That being said, a little tip for the noobs sometimes aint always a bad thing either.
@@Max-hf3ku , I know right! Ordinarily, gatekeeping is something I rail on. It's always about subjects related to academic elitism, propaganda, censorship, etc... the gatekeepers that hate uncomfortable or inconvenient truths.
@@realityobservationalist7290 was not expecting to find such a based take in the comments of this fishing video but i love to see it lmao. you’re spot on
@ , Yeah man... I think our world has a dangerous shortage of objectivity, accountability, and personal responsibility. Whatever way I can hopefully encourage that, the better in my view. Anyway, have a great year on the water friend!
Wow this is actually a good conversation guys, thank you. I have personally had some bad experiences with gatekeeping in fly fishing, particularly around steelheading, and that's why I included that voice over. That said, I agree with not giving away spots. Putting in the hard work is the right way, and the only way, to truly learn. And certainly putting in hard hours is how I've learned. Fishing wouldn't be rewarding if it was too easy. That said, I have complex and conflicting thoughts about it. For example, if you have money, you can just pay a guide to unlock the gate for you. I don't think it's as simple as do or don't gatekeep. But I appreciate this conversation, and I'm onboard with not giving up spots.
Lord I know. My problem is that I move so much that anything bigger than this is really cumbersome. It has to be something that can be on my body at all times. I'm just tailing them now.
@Fisher_Munro I have a 4 ft Beckman steelhead net and I just push the handle up and collapse it then it goes right on the side of my bag in the rod holder pocket and then when I get to the spot I'm gonna fish I just extend the net out so it's ready if I need it but also if you wanna just stick with a smaller hand held net look into the frabil trout series in the biggest hoop size I think it's like a 25x19 hoop on it so basically same foot print as your net but it's deeper and there also very reasonably priced
Two things. One, you need to focus LESS on all the hero shots and MORE on releasing those WILD fish as as QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE-ESPECIALLY if you are wanting to start guiding. If I had a guide handle fish the way you do, I would never hire them again. Two, if you are going to use a bead, why not just use a spinning rod with a float? You can fish way more water and actually have much better control of your presentation.
@thedudeabides1443 I think your kinda right. Every fish I've caught since these two I've just tailed and let go without getting in front of the camera. It is faster and better for the fish. That's pretty much the plan moving forward. Certainly I am learning a lot. That said, I don't totally agree. These fish are well handled. Fast fight. In the water almost the whole time. Held gently. The only problem I see here is the set up time. I don't think the fish handling here is some kind of travesty.
@largewoollybugger nit picky my guy. That's like 1 second. But also I'm doing a little research, and I think I was misinformed? I'm not seeing that as a rule anywhere. Although it is best practice.

"Legally, you have to keep wild fishes head in the water", then proceeds to take the entire fish out of the water to turn around and it let go 🙄

There is no law regarding ur comment. Have u seen how they recycle these fish....get a grip.
That fish was never out of the water for more than it would be in a jump
@ Have I seen how they "recycle" wild fish? What?
@@largewoollybuggeroh zip it
You might have better luck if you hadn't used the Lord's name in vain
Or maybe he only caught those fish because he did ? Keep your religion to yourself please.
