  • In the market for an electric car for your family? Considering whether the Kia EV6 might be the right EV for your needs? You need to watch this.
    In this family review, Emily Agar spent a week with the fully electric (BEV) Kia EV6 GT-Line AWD, which is the current top-spec sporty version of the range.
    It is a larger car than most, with a huge back seat and decent boot space, good practicality and a properly good real-world electric driving range.
    It worked for her family of three - will it be suitable for your family? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

    I bought one, and love it. I feel a little guilty that I’m not using the big rear seats, which are heated or cooled. This car has everything. Really, really fun to drive! One feature of EVs that I hadn’t known was that, when driving down steep hills, there’s no need to brake, because it doesn’t freewheel downhill (because your foot has to be on the accelerator to keep moving). Living in a very hilly area with lots of curves, that’s nice. I plug mine in to my household current, but there are fast chargers not far from me, along I-81. I just charge at home overnight; sometimes I plug it in whenever I get home and just leave it until I need it, but I’ve set it to charge to 90%. It was easy to connect my phone to the car, and I just lay it on the charging plate while I drive.

    Great review! Having been for a test drive in one, can concur with all your observations. One of my fav EVs.

    Could be a sweet car to drive but it's sad that Kia can only allocate a few hundred per year to Oz. Hopefully production can ramp up more and Australia can become a more inviting country for EV makers to send their cars to. Teslas are excellent but we definitely need variety and good competition. Ones more than a handful of people can buy.

    In the U.S., I paid $52,000 after negotiating, because Kia gave me the $7500 discount that is available in the U.S., but not to EVs made outside the U.S.

    Still waiting for ours since march. Official Kia car calculator says $96 209 drive away ...... and dealer will probably charge you more on top. There has also been an increase of $4k in last couple of months sadly.

    • @Fechual

      El where can I get access to the Kia Car Calculator? That price seems insanely high for the EV6 GT. Not sure how they can justify $96K+ for this car? If you are going to drop that much, there sure are a lot of other EV's to take a hard look at.

      @@Fechual It is on official Kia Australia calculator - build/order. I know, pricing of EVs in Australia is ridiculous. We are thinking about cancelling the order and getting our deposit back.

    3:20 you say it’s easy to charge …. You barely used the car by your own account. How many different charging stations did you go to?
    An issue in America is how often the stations just don’t work. This is hard to anticipate and it further frustrates the experience.
    I’m not a fan of Tesla, but their charging network is fantastic.

    • @claudiocorleone7856
      @claudiocorleone7856 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you charge at charging stations you defeat the purpose of these cars. I am buying one to save money at the pump and tired of being hostage to big oil. It costs me 400$ a month in gas. I don’t plan to spend 400$ in charging stations as I will be charging overnight at home. This car is great for city driving and I wouldn’t take long distance drives .

    • @zero11010
      @zero11010 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@claudiocorleone7856 no. It doesn’t defeat the purpose of the cars. Seems like you should look into people’s experiences as electric car owners.
      The car needs to function on longer car trips as well as basic around town driving.
      I’m not sure if you’re familiar with public charging stations … they’re everywhere. They’re everywhere because they’re needed. They’re needed because people cannot only charge at home.
      The time to charge. The distance people can travel on a charge. The state of public charging stations …. These things are all huge issues for electric car owners.

  • @zero11010
    @zero11010 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    2:50 so, you drove some distance out of a city. And that plus a week in driving was a total of about 130 miles of range? A lot of people do that in a single day. It doesn’t seem like you really explored the car much in a week. That’s unfortunate and it makes me question your opinion of the car if it amounts to about 2 hours of total time behind the wheel.

    Handles like a large SUV i.e badly, except its not a large car, and the realistic range in real life usage was under 400kms, in summer even, when I demoed it. Anybody over 6ft, your head will touch the sun roof, and you can't see the dashboard i.e speed through the steering wheel.
    At 1.4 times the cost of a Tiguen R or Kodiaq VRS or even the top Kia Sorento, nope.

    • @HotYogaDoctor
      @HotYogaDoctor ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't agree! 1. Handles superbly. 2. Range is between 450 and 480 and likely to drop with airco use over summer to 430. 3. Have had far taller people than 6 foot comfortably occupy any seat. 4. Adjust the steering wheel slightly to keep the essentials visible for tall and short drivers. We found a very happy medium where dash and head up are optimally placed for all drivers.

      They expect upto 30% degradation of the battery at 7 years.

    • @HotYogaDoctor
      @HotYogaDoctor ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HatlessChimp1that's not strictly correct. The figure you appear to quote is where most manufacturers allow their guarantee to kick in. Only IF the battery degrades by 30% will they replace the battery at their expense. The expectation therefore is that it will degrade (and there will be some degradation) that would under normal circumstances not even approach that figure. It's a commercial calculation that minimises their exposure (and allows for extraordinary circumstance). It is not an admission or a confession of battery life.
