Ah, thank you for this! I bought a DJI Osmo, second hand from a friend, but I can't seem to get the Mimo App installed on my phone due to it not being compatible. But it looks like I should have enough functionality using it without the app :-)

I am not an expert regarding the OSMO, but I fly DJI drones with similar 3 axis stabilization.
So, a couple of things:
- before you use it, you need to get the phone somewhat centered in the holder, so the gimbal doesn't have to work too hard keeping the phone horizontal.
- how can you start and stop recording, using the shutter button of the Osmo 3 WITHOUT the Mimo app? Did you use Bluetooth for that?
Thanks for the video! Most importantly I needed to know if the Osmo 3 can be used without the app, just as far as being a camera stabilizer, which you have answered for me with you video.
I ordered one online, on sale, and I'll probably be using it with a GoPro or other DVR.

I know this is late, but having just gotten the gimbal, and watching a bunch of instructional videos, and doing some research, I have discovered that you absolutely cannot use the DJI Osmo 3 without installing the app, which has major security violations where they take as much data as they can from your phone to share with the Chinese government, likely. How are people still promoting this device, I don't know.

When I hit the M button nothing happens to the balance. It's still limp. The lights light up, so I know that the power is on. But it doesn't do anything useful.

@@catherineairdsocialmedia Upon further research I found out that you absolutely CANNOT use the gimbal without using the app. You can delete the app AFTER you've set up the gimbal, and have it work, but there seems to be no way to get the gimble to work without seriously compromising your data security. The app violates all kinds of rules about what data they can access, and apparently the data is accessible by the Chinese government. It's actually shocking that Google and Apple allow the app in their stores, given how crazy this app is.
I only got the gimbal because I saw many people, like you, saying you could use it without the app, but nope. Very disappointed.

Thank you for the excellent video. Just on question - we want to use the gimbal withot the app, because we want to make a video chat via TEAMS (with Teams app). So we only require the stabilization feature, because we also want to show machines during the video chat. Do you think it works?
