Matt & Tipper, Spring is just around the corner & planting season & working together is here.. its wonderful that being productive is second nature to you both. You're truly blessed to have each other & I heartily agree with the writing on Matt's shirt. I Love Celebrating Appalachia & Especially Love Y'all. TY for sharing.
My husband is a logger in Oregon, we’ve heard all the negative things about loggers, trees can become a crop just like hay, vegetables, for every tree they cut away they reforest by planting. 3 more trees and rotate the crops , I love trees , and we need what trees supply
I agree. I'm upin Marion County and my husband worked for a saw mill in Damascus Oregon. Perspective over the industry has changed so much. Remember Saw Bucks? The dollar bills stamped with a fir tree on it?
Now they’re buying the carbon credits attached to trees so they can keep polluting the environment. So sad. Our trees and managing them are so important for our environment. Bless our forests.❤
Matt is so funny - he reminds me of my brother - saying he's about to faint. Love your family. With all the bad things going on in the world it is peaceful to observe your happy family living their best lives. You are inspirational. Thank you.
Me and daddy used to love parsnips, I roasted them with all kinds of root vegies. My grannie used to run her beans up the corn, she would put her little children on a quilt and make the dogs watch them, if one of the babies crawled off the quilt, the dogs would get ahold of their clothes and put them back on the quilt. You two make for good watching. God bless.
Hello Tipper and Matt. I love watching Matt build the garden beds .. Him using the old tin. What a fantastic idea. I sure hope your corn will be a bumper crop..Love your channel.. I pray for both girls for easy labor and delivery .. God Bless..❤️🙏
That corn is going to be so good this summer. I call them junk trees, we took out a bunch two years in a row; last year during a storm we had a 70’ tree fall-it just missed the propane tank. Trees need to be maintained and/or removed, otherwise they can become a liability and dangerous. Love the saying on Matt’s shirt!
Hey Tipper, thanx for the post. Don't worry about the Haters on TH-cam, they are usually very ignorant about the subject matter. You and Matt own and work the property the way that is best for Your Family. God bless. 😃
The video at 13:40 Tipper said that some of the commenters didn't like the fact that they had the trees cut. These type of comments are Toxic to good TH-cam channels and I recognize the source behind those types of comments. Thanx for asking Kim, God bless You. 😃@@KimOpperman
@@kevinknight470 Thank you. What some people refer to as the tree huggers. I don’t think they realize how one-sided and impractical their position is. God gave us dominion over the Earth and the animals. He expected us to use common sense in our caregiving duties. Once upon a time when the Earth was perfect in the garden of Eden, those philosophies might’ve been applicable. But when sin entered the world man had to work much harder to care for the land. The Bible makes references in quite a few places about having to prune things in order to make them more productive and bear fruit. A good caregiver knows this.
Living in Florida, I really understand it when you speak of fighting back nature. We are constantly working to keep it at bay. BTW, the cattle panels are so dang versatile!
You are the best conservationist. If everyone appreciated and managed their land the way you do our myriad of environmental and hunger needs would be met! Beautiful family with comments sense... in that, just dang inspirational! Thank you for sharing your hard work and your family. There is NOTHING that you show us that is not inspiring us all to live a life governed by love and good common sense!
This is very true. They very obviously love the landscape, and are great stewards of the land. Whoever's complaining about a few trees must have forgotten that there were probably once trees wherever they live right now.
Spring is my favorite season and Easter is my favorite holiday. Nothing thrills me more than to see the little flowers peeking through and the bushes and trees starting to bud and bloom. My husband always enjoyed the gardening. He was a carpenter and Matt reminds me so much of him. He passed away unexpectedly 20 years ago. I love the hot chocolate talks. Soon you will find out that you have a place in your heart that was being saved for those grandbabies. I never thought I could ever love anyone as much as my kids and then came the grandbabies. Oh how special and fun. Bless your sweet family.
Down here in the Piedmont near Winston-Salem, all my daffodils are in full bloom and my crocuses are up and beginning to bloom. Cold mornings keeping the daffys bloom and not falling over yet.
It's always nice just listening to you and Matt planning out the gardens. I love how Matt loves to eat. You need to make Tshirts that say "Man thats Good Mighty Good".
I just watching y'all!! I'm in Appalachia as well. I'm in the foothills. Not to far from you, in Salem SC. Thank you to all of you. I'm along most of the time and y'all feel like family. Which you might just be. My great grandmother was a Wilson. I pray for all of you and ask that you pray for me as well. I lost my only child to Type 1 Diabetes in 2017 she was 19. So watching the your girls is like watching what might be happening in Ellie's life right now. She would be a year younger that them. Thank you for just being you.
Oh Pamela, I can’t begin to imagine how you’re feeling. I’m so sorry for the loss of your sweet daughter. God has a reason for every loss we live through and we have to trust in him to have his reasons. God bless you, Pam.
Pam I am so very sorry. I just can't imagine. I will pray for you!! I'm glad we feel like family and I bet we are related some where in the Wilson line. Thank you for the kind words. I'll be praying for you!!
The trees Matt mentioned that were twisted and so, we had to cut ours too. We call them "sucker" trees. Leave the good ones like Oaks, Hickory, etc. I am excited for you guys. The garden will be so wonderful. Thanks for sharing Tipper!
You 2 are some hard working people. I'm excited for your corn garden. People always got something to say about something. To get that garden to grow you got to have sun light.
I love it when you guys have worked yourselves to death, then you sit down, have chocolate, coffee or a popcicle, and talk over matters at hand. Thats called reasoning together, talking over whats next.🙏❤️🙂
I do hope you can get corn AND peaches, that would be really nice. Granny letting the silly little girl's mess with the Beans I thought was funny!! Another beautiful raised bed made by Matt is just as beautiful as all the others. I look forward to when all this spring and summer's gardening gets underway it's wonderful to see the bounty of nature take over. Have a beautiful week Matt and Tipper❤
Well I’m praying for Corie as well. Katies labor and delivery is going to be a significant experience for her, especially being twins. Katie and Corie are much closer than siblings are.
I did not discover parsnips till about 10 years ago. My favorite way of fixing them is to cut them in large planks or quarters, and braise them in butter slowly. If it has a very large core, you can cut that out but I normally do not. You can turn up the heat at the very end just to brown them off a little bit. They are the best. Sweeter than sweet potatoes or carrots.
Hi Tipper and Matt...You both work so hard in the garden, it's hard to believe you're behind...I'm with Granny, I look forward to fresh new potatoes and green beans along with the tomatoes...nothing tastes berrer to me...Best Wishes for Katie and her delivery...God Bless y'all 🙏🙏🙏
Everything is looking really Good Tipper. Matt is such a Gem to have so much Knowledge with so many things. So Nice to work Together as a Team. Looks Wonderful. Those Grand Babies r going to having a Good Time on the Mountains with his Grandparents. Keep Up the Great Work U Guys.
Given that you just started prepping the big garden space, you’ve gotten a lot done. I’m looking forward to seeing that corn come up! Won’t be long before your first grandchild will be welcomed to the world. You guys must be so excited! Thank you Tipper and Matt for sharing your space with us!🙏❤️🇨🇦
Those garden beds look great! I was happy to see Granny at her birthday party and I'm still praying for her. Your daughters are such a blessing. I watch their you tube channel also. I pray Corie & Austin can sell their house and soon move in right near you. Tipper, I was wondering where I could find those pottery mug's. I like them a lot!
We have to cut down the 2 trees in our yard that the grands have their swings in. We have sat under those trees for over 40 years watching our kids, nieces, nephews, and grands play. They have provided a cool breeze on hot summer days, and a dirt pile under their shade for the kids to run their trucks in. I will miss them so much, but hoping to get one more summer before they have to come down in the fall. We'll plant more and hopefully generations of great grands I won't see will have fun under them. ...Prayers for our sweet Katie and Little Bit. ❤🙏Patsy
I enjoy growing corn. Have a small patch in my garden. Best advice I have seen anywhere for getting good full ears is when the silks come on take the tassel, break it off and rub on the silks. Each strand of silk is a kernel. We had uneven ears until last year when we tried it. Every ear that my husband did this to had perfect full ears!! The ones he missed were spotty kernels. We will be doing it this year!! Doesn't take long and only need a few tassels to do all the corn. I have my seed potatoes to plant this week. You can also get organic potatoes from the grocery store and use them. Much cheaper than ordering them.
I remember my relatives calling the beans that are in the green beans “Shellies”. You can’t beat southern green beans cooked like granny cooks them. Give me southern cooking any day!! Best food in the world!!!!!
Love your chats, my dad always used “gallivanting”, mom made us take muddy clothes off in the garage also. Noticed Matt’s hat has my family name on it 😊I’m sure I’ll go searching for one. I can hardly wait for the day little bit meets you all, God bless!!🥰
I love watching the little tendrils of cucumbers latch onto a fence to climb up. Burpees burpless cucumbers are the only cucumbers I want to make Old South cucumber sweet pickles. Friends beg me for these pickles. Try sprinkling Cavenders Greek seasoning on your buttered corn on the cob or whole kernel corn. It’s so good!
I have to wait a little bit more for my daffodils. It was so nice seeing yours. Giving me spring fever. Here in Connecticut we get a few nice days then it gets cold & rainy. Now that we turn the clocks forward our days will be longer. Love that! Always nice to visit with you folks! 😊❤
Strawberries are work, many strawberry farms down here in Piedmont and they tell me it is iffy, hope to go picking in April depending on frost days, 32 degrees this morning on TUESDAY, March 2 down here.
I love new potatoes and white half runners and peanut beans and peaches and cream corn 🌽. My lettuce and onions are growing fast I’m hoping to plant them in the ground maybe the last of March. I’m still hoping the new baby boy tomorrow March 11 on my Birthday. Praying for a safe delivery and healthy baby and Momma 💙❤️🎉
This time of the year is very exciting for sure! Here in northeast Alabama, we are under a freeze warning tonight! We try to wait until April 15th to set plants out! We do seed crops sometimes earlier but around Easter it is always cold! We lost all our peaches and apples last year do to freeze in April! Hope we don’t experience that this year!
Now I know Matt could give 2 hoots about those radishes, but I'm excited about'em. I appreciate y'alls work ethics. Everything is looking good. It's time for my supper, and I think green beans are on the menu. Continued prayers and love for y'alls whole family.
So wonderful to see all flowers popping up in nature. Usually is see them planted in very, very manicured lawns around trees and these look so beautiful surrounded by wood pieces, rocks and pine trees. 😊 I can see who the worker was today Matt. 😅
Curtain climbers 😅 Your videos are uplifting in so many ways. Blessings, smiles, and laughter, it's so good for my soul ☺️ Y'all have a wonderful evening. Praying and Blessed! 🤗🙏💕🍀
Parsnips have escaped my plate too; I will purchase some this coming season, I like so many vegetable varieties! 🍓🍉🍉My sweet wishes for your garden efforts!
Hey Miss Tipper! Don't feel bad, we've never had any luck with peaches either and we're a good deal farther West. My great grandma had two peach trees that had peaches on them one or two times but they took Way more work than they were worth. She had to spray them and fertilize them and baby those dang trees. In the end, some kind of worm got in them that looked like someone spread some kind of jelly on the limbs. You should look into pear trees. They are pretty hardy and you can do a lot with pears . My great grandma had two OLD pear trees in her yard that had been there many years before she and granddaddy moved into their house, it was built in the 1920's. Love from Memphis~
We bought our seed potatoes this week. Too early for us to plant yet, but it won't be long before they can go out. I just started my tomato and pepper plants this week, but we don't plant those out until late May. Best wishes for Katie and her baby. It is an exciting time for all of you.
After listening to you talk about the new garden beds, I’m starting to get really excited to start gardening. Unfortunately, in Northern Alberta it’s still 2 months away. 😢
Nature does tend to take over. In the field next to my house, the first row of crop is now yards away from the fence. On a happy note, the ground squirrels have transplanted black raspberries down through there!😊
It’s amazing to me how good a garden y’all grow in the area you live in. My Dad iwas from the Ozarks of Missouri. The clay soil you have reminds of the clay in the Ozarks. I doubt if many people realize how much work you’ve put in to get your garden plot in such good condition. We’re tickled that y’all have the new spot to grow corn
We had a bunch of old hackberry trees at the back of our property with Chinese privet and other invasive stuff that had grown over 20 years or so...and we got it cut about 2 years ago and it made things so much better! I hated to cut trees, too, but it's sometimes just absolutely necessary. Now we don't have the risk of them falling on our out buildings and backyard in general and it's drove away snakes and other undesirable critters. Glad to see ya'll are making good progress!
It looks like y’all are really getting a lot done with your garden spots. We’ve turned one of our spots with the tractor and going to turn one more then wait a month and turn them again before planting. I’m praying for Gods blessings for your garden. God bless y’all.
There's no end to the uses for cattle panels! We've built two poly tunnels using them and we use them as trellis in the garden as well. I'm so happy to be able to start planting a few things, although we're still pretty cool and even had a skiff of snow this weekend in WV. We planted some greens in a small poly tunnel last week, snow peas in a raised bed, and 400 onion slips last Friday. My Mom passed on Christmas Eve and it's been a long, hard winter emotionally. I am hoping the time change, a bit more warmth and sunshine, and being outside will help my family feel a bit better. Love seeing your videos. God bless! Hope your growing season is very successful!
I’m having shoulder surgery this Friday so I’m looking forward to growing another small garden next year. My first garden was about 80% successful. Apparently tomatoes 🍅 are my best crop and they were so delicious. We ate each and every one of them!
We are getting a freeze up on Straight Mountain tonight, I'm hoping it's the last one of the season,God bless you and your family honey 🧡 thank you for sharing your family and stories with us 🩷☮️🌻☮️
I don't know if you know about the Sustainable Mountain Agriculture Center, in Gatesville-they sell seeds. It was started by Bill Best, who wrote books on seeds in Appalachia. I seem to remember from reading his 2 books that the strings in the beans are connected to the flavour. He said varieties like Blue Lake and others were developed for commercial growing and so they could be picked by machine, the "toughness" gene, where they get tough if the beans get big unlike the more old timey varieties. Anyway, I might be telling you things you already know, but that's why I'm sticking to the real old varieties for my first garden this year (Rattlesnake, the Non-Tough Half Runner from him, and maybe Doyce Chambers Greasy, but mostly Rattlesnake).
Y’all have to do what needs to be done, so don’t worry about what others say. Besides, y’all paid for it, not them. Matt has done such a fine job on them raised beds! They look beautiful! One would never know it was just scrap roofing. They look high dollar!
I love watching your videos you make me feel like family. This year I will be able to have a garden this year God has blessed us with land . Your knowledge about gardening is awesome.

Just think two future helpers coming.
Loved seeing your garden ? Love the way you have it laid out. And nothing showing in the beds. Thank you for sharing.
Good evening Tipper & Matt. Enjoyed watching & listening to your chat.🙂🙋 God's blessings on everyone. ✝️🙏
Thank You 🙏✝️🙏
Happy Sunday!🎉 prayers for the new mamas to be!❤ Blessings
Curtain climbers 😅 Your videos are uplifting in so many ways. Blessings, smiles, and laughter, it's so good for my soul ☺️ Y'all have a wonderful evening. Praying and Blessed! 🤗🙏💕🍀
We always called children Rugrats and curtain climbers
Nice update❤❤ Poor Matt unfed and over a hour late for Dinner!
That is such a great view through the trees over to the mountains.
Parsnips have escaped my plate too; I will purchase some this coming season, I like so many vegetable varieties! 🍓🍉🍉My sweet wishes for your garden efforts!
Thanks for sharing! I love green beans and new potatoes!
Those beds look fantastic!
Nature does tend to take over. In the field next to my house, the first row of crop is now yards away from the fence. On a happy note, the ground squirrels have transplanted black raspberries down through there!😊
Your raised garden beds look really nice! Matt is really talented!
Thanks so much!
My daddy called us 3 kids "crumb snatchers"! LOL!! And curtain climbers! We sure were!!
Another interesting, relaxing and fun video! Love Matt’s T -Shirt! Tipper’s is good too.
That is great! Hope y’all are well 😊
@@CelebratingAppalachia yes ma’am, we are doing good. We are blessed
Everything is looking wonderful Tipper! Thank you for sharing Tipper and Matt. I hope you have more corn than you know what to do with.
I hope so too!
I’m so sorry you lost her!! Your gardening sounds great!!
The daffodils are so pretty.
I’m having shoulder surgery this Friday so I’m looking forward to growing another small garden next year. My first garden was about 80% successful. Apparently tomatoes 🍅 are my best crop and they were so delicious. We ate each and every one of them!
Praying your surgery goes well and for a quick recovery 😊
We are getting a freeze up on Straight Mountain tonight, I'm hoping it's the last one of the season,God bless you and your family honey 🧡 thank you for sharing your family and stories with us 🩷☮️🌻☮️
The cold has certainly come back 😊 Hope you have a great week!
Thank you!
y'all have it looking so nice.
Good job matt ❤
Y’all have to do what needs to be done, so don’t worry about what others say. Besides, y’all paid for it, not them. Matt has done such a fine job on them raised beds! They look beautiful! One would never know it was just scrap roofing. They look high dollar!
I love green beans and new potatoes cooked together. Oh my gosh that's good! Mom use to cook some fat back . loved that too.
I love watching your videos you make me feel like family. This year I will be able to have a garden this year God has blessed us with land . Your knowledge about gardening is awesome.
So jealous, we still have snow. Cant wait to get in the dirt!
I love Matt's T-shirt!!!
Yall getting so much done, you will be eating fine!
