My husband and I are in our mid-seventies and we have found if we don't get our garden work done before noon, it doesn't get done. Then we just sit on our patio with our dogs. Good times.
I look forward to watching all of your videos. It keeps me Motivated. I and my husband are retired. We can’t take the heat anymore like we used to. So we we try to get done what we can in the morning. Today here in Arkansas the high was 94 and it’s still May …
My Grandma fixed me fried okra whenever I went to her house. It was DELICIOUS! My Grandpa made the best lemonade. We would go to church with our big family. After one of my uncles preached we would have dinner on the grounds. There was a huge Oak tree and they set up sawhorses with plywood tops. The ladies covered the plywood with sheets and put their food on the “table” before we went on for preaching. After that we would gather under that tree and eat the best food! My very best memories are of those Sundays.
The secret to good lemonade is a fourth tsp salt per half gallon. Makes it taste so mellow and blended. Also adding some salt to it replenishes sodium you lose sweating.
O my goodness, Matt looks 10 years younger since he shaved. He said it’s going to be so hot he might have to do like an old dog and go lay in the creek. He says some funny things. lol I was watching another channel and got a notice you were on and turned as fast as I could , never want to miss you. Love you , God bless you
You two work so hard that it’s normal to Peter out once in a while. I am in my early 70’s and I can’t handle this heat and humidity in middle Georgia. Even getting in the garden early in the morning still causes me to break out in a sweat and get really weak, or Peter out as Tipper says. I hate it but am thankful I can still have my little garden every year.
When my brothers and I were kids, we had window air conditioners that were used only on the hottest days. We also had a huge attic fan. On hot summer nights, we’d open all the windows, shove shoes under the doors to keep them open, and then fire up the first switch and then the second one. So much blessed wind. We’d sleep like babies and even get slightly cold. Great memory!
Your talking about tractors reminds me of my grandpa breaking out his tractor to repair his long driveway after a heavy rain. Thank you-I had forgotten about that memory.
I really enjoyed listening today. It brings back precious memories of my childhood in upper South Carolina. My grandfather and grandmother always had a huge garden. Their ministry was to provide fresh produce from the garden to all the widow ladies in the community. They wanted to ensure the ladies would have enough groceries through the winter season. I remember riding in their old truck to deliver the food. All my life I have worked at non-profits and educational institutions and truly believe I get my caring and helping the less fortunate from my grandparents. Just like you, we lived next door to my maternal grandparents. Oh such precious memories that I cherish. So many of your recipes and vocabulary reminds me of my childhood. Thank you!!! I’ve even recently took back up with canning. I guess it true. The older you get you return to your childhood! 😂
Get some rest you two. My Mom use to say I'm feeling my age today. I remember not having air conditioning but it's like you said Tipper we were used to it. I sure am glad I have it now. 😊 Love & God Bless
Wish I lived closer so I could have some of those flowers you pulled up. I didn’t have an air conditioner until I was well grown. It just seems like it is hotter now than it was back then.
That fatigue may be a delayed reaction from the recent stresses...it all catches up. I know you love your garden, but you have accomplisheda lot. The heat can also be debilitating. Take time to sit in the shade and look at the clouds. If the heat disagrees with Matt, pay attention. That's your body talking. You want to be healthy and well to enjoy the garden's abundance. You'll have more than enough come harvest. Stay well.
Slammed my hand in truck door. Thought I was going to fall out, and had the weak trembles! That was a long time ago, but I still remember that feeling.
I can relate. I tripped and sprained my ankle. The pain was so bad initially I broke out in a cold sweat, started shaking and thought I would pass out.
Weak trembles! Finally, I have the right words/expression now when I need to express when feeling rank. I’m 70 now. Occasionally, the weak trembles for several reasons, do overcome me. I grew up in Las Vegas and still here. My family and I were born in New Orleans. So many old time expressions/meanings, too. I purely love learning about all y’all Appalachian lifestyle. I’m fascinated of your way of life and all its surrounding beauty. Looking forward to your blooms and harvest.
Sounds like you two had a day like i have sometime when I'm trying to get something in particular done. Something else needs doing, then something else. Finally when i get back to the original chore i realize I've had a serious case of the "but first". I'll do this, but first then another but first comes along.
I've heard fall out for fainting or passing out. I have been a fainter, starting with my pregnancy, but now I recognize it coming on and sit down to put it off. Come to find out I have low blood pressure and it can be what they call postural, the dr word for standing up too fast, or standing up too long in one position. Weak trembles is new, but I knew right away what you meant. Feeling like that means I need water or food, and working outside in summer, it's mostly water. Matt made me laugh, lack of fishing. Green beans and potatoes is also a favorite of mine, and I made them for supper tonight with enough left over for tomorrow. I have eaten them all my life, my grandmother made them and showed me how.
Tipper and Matt, you two have been going full steam ahead for months with the garden and caring for family. I think a vacation should be in your near future. Just the two of you. How about Florida?
I'm late watching this video, Tipper, so another commenter may have mentioned this. I couldn't help but think of the electrolyte drink that you gave us Katie and Corie's recipe for not long ago. The "weak trembles" you experienced sound like dehydration or the need for an energy drink. Sometimes in the hot weather, I forget I have that bottle of Gatorade in the frig. Just a reminder, and no need to answer. You have so many comments to read and reply. May God bless your gardening efforts, and I hope Granny takes great pleasure in hers and feels like checking on it from time to time.
My husband and I do our work in the outdoors in the morning. We are 76 abd 77, and our energy level is the highest then, and the temperature is the coolest. As you get older heat and work affects you more. My family called those "weak spells" and would drink water and eat some spoonfuls of peanut butter and they would go away. Stay safe and don't overdo. We enjoy your channel so much and never miss a video.❤
Weak trembles is related to a drop in your blood sugar. It happens when you are doing heavy work/ being more active. It does not mean you are diabetic, just that you need to replenish the energy to keep going. Sugar will work too, but protein stays with you longer. I am a nurse, I know things.....haha. I enjoy watching your content so much. Good luck with the garden.🙂
Yes, Matt needs to go fishing! 🤣 I don’t like hot weather either. It just drains me. Always love seeing your garden. Praying your family has a wonderful weekend! God bless y’all! 😀❤️🙏🏻
Today is Sunday night while I am watching this. I love you and Matt eating popsicles and chatting after your hard work! Everything is looking beautiful! Share a picture of the corn with us. I have the best memories of my Pop Pop's garden. Corie has been on my mind all day. Praying for a smooth and beautiful delivery. Much love to you all from Selma, Al.
Matt may have had a heat injury (heat exhaustion or heat stroke) when he was younger. It is quite common for that to happen and kids to bounce back pretty well compared to adults. The issue is that once that happens, you are more susceptible to heat and heat injuries in the future since your body's cooling system gets a diminished capacity. I know this because I had a hospitalization for heat injury when I first started out as a fireman at 19 years old and now have to be pretty careful in my old age with the heat. When we are young we think we are so invulnerable, then have to pay the price later in life. At any rate, thanks for another great video and you guys keep hydrated.
We never had air conditioning growing up. There’s a saying that “you never miss what you’ve never had.” Once we got air conditioning when we were adults, then we couldn’t live without it. I don’t know how we made it through those very hot, humid summers!! I remember waking up lathered in sweat, and running to stand in front of a window fan, we had in the living room window.
Love watching you and Matt garden. It all looks wonderful and excited to see the harvest. Continued prayers for you and your family. Thanks for sharing.
I"m with Matt I have the weak trimbles and hate the heat, my doctor said I was hypoglycemic which is low blood sugar or the modern day version of weak trimbles. I so look forward to the videos ya"ll put out each week and am so grateful for time ya"ll put in them. Although we have never met I will always know ya"ll as my brothers and sisters in Christ.
I'm the same as Matt, I cannot handle the heat, now I am in that wonderful phase of hot flashes that make it even more fun 🙄 I remember my grandmother saying she was feeling swimmy headed at times and sit and rest
Don't forget to fertilize your corn after it gets up good. Corn requires a lot of fertilizer. Also we always grew pinto beans for green beans. You pick them like green beans instead of letting them dry. They taste better than green beans. Just a suggestion. If you want to learn as one on corn try watching True Grit Appalachian Way on tube. I think y'all would like that one. Can't wait to see y'all's garden this year. It is very satisfying to this old dude that can't get out there any more. Good luck and keep these shows coming. ❤
God Bless you all . I get a strong feeling you have another grandson on the way very soon. You are such a Blessed family. I hunt and fish like the mat and your men foke do . I play country gospel on my 12 string and bluegrass. And I make up songs for the kids. I garden with my wife. Our family is a lot like yours. I'm 73 now my wife of 50 years is with me we live in the deep north woods of Maine right on the Canadian border. In the crown 👑 of ME. Mat I see moose 🫎 and deer 🦌 almost every day sometimes even Buffalo 🦬 you can catch 5 pound native trout right in my back yard I live on the river . We love your channel.. we love your family we love your cooking and your music. If I could send videos your way you would see how much alike we are.. Keep up the great channel.. forgive my gramer and spelling mistakes I've suffered a stroke and it has affect me a bit. God Bless you the grand kids must b the best excitement ever tell the lady's they only stay baby's a short while . Our children are all grown up and have given us 5 grand children .. and 2 of them are married great grandchildren next for us..
I was so happy to see a fellow Mainer write such a beautiful email to Tipper! I love Maine as much as Tipper loves her Appalachia, and I always feel so proud when a tourist or a “transplant “ tells me how much they love it here too. When our family was young, we lived in northern Maine two different times, and to me it’s the most special part of our beautiful state. The people and the way of life made living there a joy! Some of our dearest friends and dearest memories were made while living in Aroostook County. Thank you, Richard, for expressing exactly how I feel about Tipper and her entire family! God bless you! Keep enjoying those northern Maine woods! Blessings, Jackie🪷
Y'all not soft. Y'all have gotten older. It will not get easier as the years fly by. You'll be falling out more and as we say "got the vapors". Happy gardening 👩🌾
I was about 55 before we had air conditioning in our house. We had a ceiling fan in every room. What made me finally put it in is I had a dog with Addison's disease, and the heat was hard on him. I loved that dog. He was a rescue from the streets in Va when we adopted him. He was an adult rescue and I had him for 12 healthy years, because I had a great mentor teaching me how to handle his illness and his meds. Anyway. Yeah. I feel like we got soft, as you say :)
Both of you work so hard sometimes you just need a break. Also Outshine should sponsor your channel. I finally tried them and so far my favorite is peach and watermelon. Coconut is ok and lemon is like frozen lemonade on a stick. Still looking to try some other flavors.
I so remember the smell of summer in my home town, it kinda felt like security of what I knew, its all grown up now oh how things change, makes me long for the old days❤
I fully understand how y’all feel, 40 years ago I’d be outside all day whether it was 10 degrees or 100 degrees and it didn’t bother me. Now when summer comes I can’t hold out like I used to, that heat and humidity does something to me. I tell Brandi all the time that I wished it was October and November year round. I hope you have a wonderful day, God bless you.
Hey there! I have days where I feel puney. The heat really can drain you. Try pine needles around your squash plants to discourage the squash bugs, they don't like pine needles. I put it in my grow bags and around them. I am just starting may channel if I ever get time to work on it. Love watching you all!
We are all soon enough going to have to go back to the old ways it's a great knowledge to have . Love watching y'all it reminds me of my grandparents and my dad garding and working there tail off but the reward is so worth it .
I live in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Love your videos! I planted corn for the first time this year. It's up and doing ok so far. Good luck with yours this year. Cant wait to watch a corn update!
Hi Tipper and Matt, I'm a diabetic and when my sugar is low I get it weak trembles and have to eat something to get it back up. I can also see how it relates to anxiety as you'll be shakey and light headed in both areas. I'm glad your finally getting to the raised beds on the bank and even though they are not done Y'all did alot for it being so hot out and even helped Corie so Please don't be so hard on Yourselves cause you still got alot Accomplished. I hope Y'all have a Good Memorial Day and just enjoy family time together.😊❤🙏🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅
My mom and dad would always say that my blood sugar was getting to low when I felt like that and that we needed to eat something and rest out of the sun for a bit. It always worked for me. Matt, time for a fishing video. Thanks for the video.
Watching all the way from the Philippines in Southeast Asia. Been here since May 17th. Can’t wait to get back home to Georgia this coming Friday night!!!! I’m so ready and miss my home. I’m here visiting with a friend/family I’m friends with. The friend is originally from here but has been in Georgia for 30years. Was asked to come and visit when they did. Makes me realize how much I love my country home.
One year, I planted corn, and boy, was it beautiful. The tassles had just started turning, so I was going to wait a couple of days to pick. Went to pick, and the dad blasted crows had stripped it. I was so mad! 😂😂😂
Us vhs tapes take the film out and run it across where you plant your corn, the wind makes it move and crows and animals stay away works for my Dad and he has a great harvest of corn.
Since I’ve gotten older the heat really hurts me, wasn’t that bad when I was younger. Dill pickle juice is good for you in the heat. I buy it by the gallon at Walmart. Pickles are handed out on party fishing boats to fight the nausea from sea sickness. The potassium and electrolytes help with cramps, just ask any high school football player in Texas (prior to Gatorade). Along with lots of water you have to add the electrolytes and salt back to your system, a shot of pickle juice does it without all the sugars you get in Gatorade.
I still haven’t turned on my air conditioner. Been a couple days , I’ve wanted to. Im going to see how far into the middle to end of June I can get this year. The story about the masked bandit was funny. Granny has a great sense of humor. Im behind on videos, can’t wait to see your new garden.
Loved the story about granny and the produce stand and the raccoon story. Our garden is planted but we are getting so much rain the bean vines are turning yellow. We keep the crows out of our corn by stringing twine up every row. A very old gentleman in the neighborhood told my husband that trick and it works for us. He said the crows were afraid to lite among the string because if a predator came through they might get tangled in the string. Once it comes up about 8-10 inches high we take the string down.
We don’t have air conditioning. These days have been specially hot here in San Jose, Costa Rica. The tops being 81. Too much for me. But rainy season is starting and it will get cool very soon. I enjoy so much talking to you in your videos although I do all the listening. Grateful Granny is doing much much better. Give her my love.
Y’all are so real and lovely. I love watching you two together and hearing your stories and how you work together like a well oiled machine. I am so happy I found your channel and your girls.
Matt's been looking tuckered.. I know planting season has you busier than you'd like but maybe a day or two of R & R for everyone. Getting caught up is rewarding but can take a toil. Love Y'All.
Tipper/Matt, do you remember early last Fall when someone sent you some bandana type things in the mail? I was the one who sent them and if you didn't know what they were, you soak one of them in a ziplock baggie with a few inches of water and put them in the fridge about an hour before you go outside when it's hot. Then right before you go out you take it out and tie one around your neck and it will swell with the water and will remain cool and help cool you off when you're working outside in the heat. I believe I sent you several of them, so pull those out and use them when it warms up. Stay safe hun.
It´s happened where I got the weak trembles, felt faintified, & about to fall out because my blood sugar dropped. Fortunately I was at the grocery store, so grabbed the first thing I saw, a package of pecan sandies cookies, sat down on the floor, ripped open the bag, shaking. No fun, but the cookies tasted good. The cashier understood. 😀Y´all sure do work hard, if it´s warm & humid, that alone will cause petering out. Things are looking good from all your hard work. Thanks for showing us these popsicle chats. 😊
I know I'm always behind but I catch up. I too get the shakes / weak. Never fainted. But your bodies are / freaking a bit of excitement of the baby coming probably & don't even know it . I think personally we all do it esp. if a hard worker all your life ❤️ Like you said no rhyme or reason ❤😂 Our bodies are so complicated at times . Have a blessed day everyone 💕❤️🙏❤️ OH the deer got my sisters peas a while back. 😢 But we laughed they loved them. Dang they feed them lol 😂 Not to mention the squirrel 🐿️ ❤
That tractor sure is a big help, I am glad y'all have that. LOL, "have to be like an old dog and go lay in the creek". My mother, and her sister and my Grandma too, would sometimes say she felt "swimmy-headed" but that was when she felt dizzy. Love the story about Granny and the masked critter eating from her scrap pile, that's a funny story!
So glad you and Mr. Matt are enjoying your new tractor! I get the weak trembles too, but it's from anemia. I have to get I.V. iron and blood every couple of months. Might want to take a vitamin that's got a little more iron in it or a slow release iron supplement just to be sure yours is okay. So glad to hear Granny is feeling better! You know when they get their hair done that they're on the right track! Corie's in our thoughts, she and little bit will be just fine, but I bet y'all are ready to see him. Sending y'all love from Memphis!~

Your best life is what its all about ❤
My favorite saying that I've learned from you and Matt is "You've come unfed."
I sure hope for Father's Day that Matt can go fishing for a day!! Yall work so hard. I pray yall have the best harvest ever!!
Thanks so much 😊
Great for Granny getting her hair fixed - I’m sure that did make her feel better. She looked really good in her crocheted sweater in Korie’s video❤
This is Todd from Buford my mom passed last night very peaceful she's knot sick no more thanks for all the prayers from all y'all.
Sorry for your loss. Prayers from Texas🙏🏻
I’m so sorry. I will be praying for you.
So sorry
May your sweet mother rest in peace. 🙏💙
Praying for your comfort, Todd. So sweet for you to share with us. ❤

If America went back to Old School America would be a great place.

Green beans, and tomatoes remind me of Grandma & Grandpa.
Picking a juicy tomato of the vine, and biting into it - Yummy.
It is fun to see the two very different styles of popsicle-eating technique that you and Matt have.

"True Grit Appalachian Ways" is a lovely channel with lovely people, Megan and Andy. Live in a Mountains Homestead. You will love them.
Yes, I just love them!
👍
I'll check it out!
They are so down to earth and do a great job teaching their children the old ways❤
I love watching you’uns.

Throw some bandanas in a cooler with some ice, add water, and some Florida water. Keeps the bandanas so cool.
I’m with Matt! I absolutely cannot handle the heat…then add the humidity…no, thank you! Hope you’ve all had a good holiday weekend! 🇺🇸💙😉
I love your popsicle sessions! Great stories. You guys are all so pure and great folks. Hello from central Iowa

Really enjoyed listening to you and Matt both. Y'all be careful in this heat. Glad your corn is up.
I was watching Matt clearing the brush, it looks like a daunting task! As always, thank you for sharing your space with us!❤️🙏🇨🇦

Thank you so much!
Two popsicle gardening day. Good Job. 😊
We love True Grit Appalachian Way. Good folks, just like here. 😊
God Bless you all . I get a strong feeling you have another grandson on the way very soon. You are such a Blessed family. I hunt and fish like the mat and your men foke do . Thank you so much! What a beautiful place you live in 😊 I'm so glad you enjoy what we do-sounds like we have much in common!
Blessings,
Jackie🪷
Matt, won the lottery when he found his wife, live it up buddy, hats off from Oklahoma 😁👍💪
Thanks 👍
Y'all not soft. Y'all have gotten older. It will not get easier as the years fly by. You'll be falling out more and as we say "got the vapors". Happy gardening 👩🌾
I'm happy for y'all to have the tractor to help with all the hard work y'all do. Stay hydrated it's supposed to be a hot summer.
25:27 a couple of years the boys will be helping ❤
Back home the old people used to planed Miss. clay peas between the cron. They was so good
Haven’t heard weak trembles before. When I feel like that, I call it feeling jittery.
Your garden s are so beautiful
Im the same as Matt.l can't stand the heat
I fully understand how y’all feel, 40 years ago I’d be outside all day whether it was 10 degrees or 100 degrees and it didn’t bother me. Now when summer comes I can’t hold out like I used to, that heat and humidity does something to me. I tell Brandi all the time that I wished it was October and November year round. I hope you have a wonderful day, God bless you.
Thank you Trey! Hope you have a great week!
Hey there! I have days where I feel puney. The heat really can drain you. Try pine needles around your squash plants to discourage the squash bugs, they don't like pine needles. I put it in my grow bags and around them.
I am just starting may channel if I ever get time to work on it. Love watching you all!
Your cooking is awesome
Thank you so much
We are all soon enough going to have to go back to the old ways it's a great knowledge to have . Love watching y'all it reminds me of my grandparents and my dad garding and working there tail off but the reward is so worth it .
Having a tractor is everything! We live in the middle of 12 acres and it blows my mind how my husband gets creative with the John Deere❤
Poppies are my favorites too...there's just something about them that enchants me!
Another nice visit with you all.
Wishing you and everybody out there a good and smooth week, stay cool 😎
I live in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Love your videos! I planted corn for the first time this year. It's up and doing ok so far. Good luck with yours this year. Cant wait to watch a corn update!
Thank you! I hope it does good for you 😊
Summer is getting here quick. It is warm and muggy out.!
I hope Y'all have a Good Memorial Day and just enjoy family time together.😊❤🙏🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅
thank you Kim! We hope you have a good one too 😊
Y’all work so hard! It’s ok to take breaks 💕
I work out in the heat. In the summertime I carry pickles with me. When I get to feeling that way I eat some pickles and it seems to help.
I agree with Matt. He looks like he is in dire need of a fishing trip. Sounds like a father's day trip in the future. Lol
Oh no 😊
I believe every moment you spend gardening you are celebrating Appalachia
We just had roast potatoes and carrots with onions too! So good 😊!
Sounds great!
Prayers for those in my area in Abingdon, bad storms, trees down
I’m so sorry. I will.
I hate storms, they scare me to death!!
Prayers
@@marylour253 Marylou, Thank you!!!
It’s always nice to watch you at the end of the day I feel like I’m setting there with you winding down ❤
Us vhs tapes take the film out and run it across where you plant your corn, the wind makes it move and crows and animals stay away works for my Dad and he has a great harvest of corn.
Tipper and Matt yall work so hard in the garden yall deserve a delicious popsicle and have a blessed Sunday everyone 🙏
Thank you! You too!
I grew up hearing it as “I’m feeling woosy.”
I've heard that too 😊 thank you for sharing it!
Great tip! Thank you 😊
My uncle and great uncle used to trap every winter. They ate or sold some of the meats. And sold all of the furs.
I am the same about the heat, especially since getting a bit older...I have to be very careful...
Y’all are so real and lovely. I love watching you two together and hearing your stories and how you work together like a well oiled machine. I am so happy I found your channel and your girls.
Thank you so much!!
Poor Matt, it’s easier to go to work then to stay home. I never had so much work in my life till I decided to be a stay at home.😅
Matt's been looking tuckered.. I know planting season has you busier than you'd like but maybe a day or two of R & R for everyone. Getting caught up is rewarding but can take a toil. Love Y'All.
All energizer bunnies need to recharge!!
"A rise in 'Don't want to...' " Classic...
Thank you 😊
I'd like to welcome y'all into the ole timers club -- y'all graduated today -- proud to have y'all
Great video and I always look forward to the popsicles.
Thank you!! We appreciate you 😊
That tractor sure is a big help, I am glad y'all have that. LOL, "have to be like an old dog and go lay in the creek". My mother, and her sister and my Grandma too, would sometimes say she felt "swimmy-headed" but that was when she felt dizzy. Love the story about Granny and the masked critter eating from her scrap pile, that's a funny story!
Thanks 👍
Matt shaved!!!! Looks good with a clean face. :-) You all do such good worK. Love watching you this Sun. evening.
