We need to stop this propaganda about the sims 3 being rough to run "nowadays" in 2024 since the game has a bunch of impactful fixes (Lazy Duchess' smooth patch at least) and for the most part the game doesn't just crash randomly. Also you can turn off all the ads in the settings, there's an auto saver mod that saves the game even in build mode and there's a mod for the grid.
I started playing Sims 3 too. I loved it because you can create your own lots, and place items in the world you want, and the terrain manipulation is a lot easier to use. Although roofing (never my forte) was blocky. I never liked to roof. They made the sounds like that to make it sound realistic, like under construction. And as for me, my favorite plant was the heather. I used that stuff everywhere! I also would repaint the pool and then change the pattern on the wallpaper to make it look funky. I miss having those curved walls for pools, I could make a completely circular pool. And those spiral stairs would work great with curved walls if the Sims 4 has it--I hope! It would be the only saving grace to curved walls in the Sims 4.
For any builders who want to go back to S3, I have found that the easiest way to avoid the "Aw crap, I should have that somewhere else on the lot and now I can't move the building" is to use the floor barriers to plan the first floor's floorplan before building. :) You can also turn off the in-store purchase "suggestions" in the settings and that reduces the lag a _lot._ [Lag is always EA-caused, usually their shoddy monetisation policies]. There are also a swag of things you can do to to stop that laggy crash from happening. Nraas mods FTW but there is also a really good one that stops the cc build/buy lag a _lot._ "ld smoothpatch" [with a version for master controller if you have nraas mods]
The sims 3 was also my first game when I was like 4 so being like basically a toddler I barely knew what I was doing and I did not know that buildmode was a thing. I made my sims have a kid, aged the kid until it was a child, got bored, and made a new save. i watched an episode of QTCinderella’s podcast Wine About It and she mentioned that she would like to be friends with you! i think that would be an amazing collab!
As much as I miss TS3's color wheel, I completely agree that building was a pain. The game in general tended to crash all the time. It was especially bad when I had Windows 98. The game needed more RAM than Win98 could use, so if you didn't save at least once every SimDay while you were playing, and nearly constantly when you were building, it would crash. It was a little better when I was able to upgrade to Windows 7, as it could better use the RAM the computer had. But it still crashed a lot. (And that wasn't counting what it would do if you didn't have NRAAS Overwatch installed. Supposedly the crashing had something to do with the way cars worked in the game. It was as if all the fake cars in the game would get stuck at the edges of the lot. Over a short period of time, the game would get slower and slower and slower, until it finally crashed. And *that* bug couldn't be fixed by saving the game.) I *loved* TS3. I had so much fun with it. I didn't even play TS4 until Discover University came out. But I can't go back to TS3. It's just too frustrating. Even with all the bugs of TS4, I still find TS3 far more frustrating.
@@taepyeoon8245 LOL! When TS3 first came out, that's what the majority of players had! Sure, Windows Millennial and Vista had come out, but most of us were trying to avoid them, just as later we avoided Windows 8 if we could. Windows 7 was at least reasonable in comparison to the others. (Except for the RAM usage problem, many of us really missed Win98 when we switched over.) But then, I played SimCity (the original) on Amiga (1000 and then 2000.) Its graphics were far superior to the version for Windows! If only they could have continued to compete!
@@junerussell6972 So funny remembering all these older windows versions. They don't feel that old, but then I remember that we still had dial-up internet back when we had Windows XP... My main Sims experience back then was playing it at my friend's house, and eventually renting the GameCube releases like The Sims 2 Pets. What a time!
@@blaireshoe8738 Yep. Things have really changed over the years (thankfully.) I still remember when the only way we got "updates" for bugs was on disc. That's how I ended up getting hooked on TS1. I was a big SimCity fan. I had gone to the game store to pre-order SimCity4. The sales clerk suggested TS1, which I had avoided (because the commercials showed a lot of Sims hitting each other, and that's a big turn-off for me.) The sales clerk explained that one didn't have to play that way, so I bought it. When SimCity4 came out, it was unplayable because of bugs (and didn't become playable until SimCity4 Rush Hour came out, since you needed that disc to get rid of the bugs.) So, when I would have been playing SC4, I ended up playing TS1 instead and got "hooked" on it! But I don't miss the days when all bug fixes came on the next DLC! I also remember when they first started sending out updates over the internet. That was quite an experience too, since they were far too large to finish downloading in an uncorrupted form if you were on dialup. So, I had to go to a friend's house who had cable internet, download it onto his computer, burn it to a disc, and take it home (hoping it wasn't corrupted. It actually took a few tries, unfortunately.) I don't miss those days either!
[22:23] Same. I was thinking that earlier when you pulled out one of the phones that hang from the wall. If the Sims 4 gives us old school radios, give us a few landline phones. That would have been an amusing feature in Parenthood. "You are grounded and cannot use your smart phone. If you need to make a call, you will have to use the landline." Grandma and Grandpa don't like recent technology, so they use the landline. This Sim is trying to escape the tech-dependent world and is living off the grid, but for emergencies they do have a landline.
I found a way around the save in build mode, because I have a “save reminder” mod and it reminds me to save my game periodically, since I forget all the time, and if I follow the prompt and save, it lets me save in build mode I mainly play the sims 3, since my special interest has latched onto the sims 3
I really hope for TS5, they bring back some of the features from TS3 in combination with the ease of TS4. Like just the color wheel and custom placing corners would make me so happy.
This is the best April Fool's joke! I love and still play Sims 3. It is laggy and prone to crashing but I think it is worth it. Thank you so much for the video. I'm wishing kitty the best of luck!
That’s why you save your favourites already with favourite swatches. Actually you can also just save your favourite textures-colours and save a lot of loading time by not switching colour wheel tabs a lot.
Whenever I built an attached garage in sims 3, I always had a video tutorial on my tablet next to me! I could never remember how to do it! I hope Snappy's surgery goes well, and the sewer not-so-babies don't forget her! I'm sending you, and your family lots of love, luck, good vibez, and hope. 💜💜🤞🤞
1 thank you for not doing a prank video, 2 a sims 4 home phone would be so cute, like how some families have the "home cellphone" for the kid to use in an emergency or to call grandma without needing to own a cellphone. maybe a funny feature where the kid can "order pizza" or "do a prank call" for personality attributes
I liked the color wheel back in the day but I'm glad the swatches are limited because it can be overwhelming the amount of options and mixes 😂 unpopular opinion i know
with roofing recently I managed to fix a really awkward roof situation by making two half roofs together and make a lop sided roof. Made me feel like a god gamer xD
When I was a kid I used to play and build a lot in the sims 3, then the sims 4 came and I rated the way the building mode was, for me it was more difficult to understand. But now some years later I completely forgot how to build in the sims 3 and I think I would cry if I tried hahaha. Also sending love to Snap
One of my kids keeps asking me to build in Sims 2 lately, and thinking of the evolution of build tools from 1 to 4, there are definitely pros and cons to each of the last 3 games, but overall Sims 4 has the most placement freedom. I miss the colour wheel from Sims 3, and that rounded edge pool tool. From Sims 2, I made walk-out basements in the foundations, you could have so many more floors, and there were also round pool options in Sims 2, I believe. I still hope we can build split level houses sometime in the future.
love watching your builds and indecisiveness/OCD (just like me - lol). But one thing I always wanna do when watching full screen is hit that "G" button to get rid of the grid lines. I do hit it a lot and realize, "oh yeah, *I'm* not playing" LOL

And *that* bug couldn't be fixed by saving the game.)
I *loved* TS3. I had so much fun with it. I didn't even play TS4 until Discover University came out. But I can't go back to TS3. It's just too frustrating. Even with all the bugs of TS4, I still find TS3 far more frustrating.
how tf did you run sims 3 on windows 98 LMAO
@@taepyeoon8245 LOL! When TS3 first came out, that's what the majority of players had! Sure, Windows Millennial and Vista had come out, but most of us were trying to avoid them, just as later we avoided Windows 8 if we could. Windows 7 was at least reasonable in comparison to the others. (Except for the RAM usage problem, many of us really missed Win98 when we switched over.)
But then, I played SimCity (the original) on Amiga (1000 and then 2000.) Its graphics were far superior to the version for Windows!
Good luck, Snap! My kitty & I will be thinking of you!
It’s Tuesday ❤ sending all my prayers and love to you, Snap and Dan🥰🌟
in regards to the sims 3 color wheel, you can also use images from your pc and import them as textures
I regularly miss the kid oven. It would be so nice to get them cooking skill like that again.
GOD I LOVED THE FRIO'S HOUSE
Kayla, using the scalloped roof swatch? Groundbreaking
😂😂 It's my favorite roof too I cannot even blame her
it had never happened to me ! 😮 Sims 3 was my first love 😂😂😂
i love watching you build in sims 3
Best wishes for Snap, hopes everything goes well! ❤
Omg.. now I want to play sims 3 🥰🥰
Simsie had the whole color wheel & still painted the house blue! /j
So fun to experience some Sim 3 nostalgia!!
When I was a kid playing TS3 I literally never used the foundation cause it made me mad if I had to start over 😂😂
I just love sims 3 how you can customize all the individual furniture colors
I found a way around the save in build mode, because I have a “save reminder” mod and it reminds me to save my game periodically, since I forget all the time, and if I follow the prompt and save, it lets me save in build mode
I mainly play the sims 3, since my special interest has latched onto the sims 3
7:21 is the craziest thing I’ve ever heard… TS3 is literally way better than 4 in almost every way
I really hope for TS5, they bring back some of the features from TS3 in combination with the ease of TS4. Like just the color wheel and custom placing corners would make me so happy.
I played the sims 3 so long ago I don't even think I remember how to play it. This video was incredibly nostalgic for me, thank you Kayla ❤
this was fun! what's weird is i never had problems with it lagging
This is the best April Fool's joke! I love and still play Sims 3. It is laggy and prone to crashing but I think it is worth it. Thank you so much for the video. I'm wishing kitty the best of luck!
Maybe you could try to rebuild this in TS4 and upload that build to the sims 4 gallery
STAY LILSIMSIE FAN AHHHH
building in the sims 3 takes 10 times longer just bc you can pick the swatch of everything 😭😭
What mod were you using to get the game to run smooth? This looks unreal considering all the performance issues the game usually has.
This is my kind of April Fools video, not very pranky, but the chance to do something a bit different from the usual.
26:00 you can just press F1, F2 or F3 and it solves it, then save and restart the game :)
I like the window placement sound!😂
THE BURGLAR ALARMS omg I want the burglar mechanic in the sims 4 so bad
I love the shirt today!! 🌼🌸💕☺
What a realistic clear graphics in Sims 3 compared to Sims 4!
I liked the color wheel back in the day but I'm glad the swatches are limited because it can be overwhelming the amount of options and mixes 😂 unpopular opinion i know
I had every single store item from the sims 3. Did I pay for any of it? Of course not! lol Torrents were my best friend.
As someone who exclusively plays Sims 3, hearing you complain about stuff I complain about on the daily was refreshing lol
with roofing recently I managed to fix a really awkward roof situation by making two half roofs together and make a lop sided roof.
Also sending love to Snap
ugh i missed the sims 3 worlds and the little control panel its just so satisfying
Take all the time you need to be with your family
I pray that Snap has a breezy surgery! shes got this. TRUST! 👈👈👈😻💗😺🐱
YESSS I want more Sims 3 Builds/Content!!!
I still hope we can build split level houses sometime in the future.
what is the mod you need to run sims 3 because i neeed!
lazy duchess smooth patch, nraas error trap and overwatch - you should be golden with those!
love watching your builds and indecisiveness/OCD (just like me - lol). But one thing I always wanna do when watching full screen is hit that "G" button to get rid of the grid lines. I do hit it a lot and realize, "oh yeah, *I'm* not playing" LOL
constrain floor elevation is the single greatest thing the sims has ever given to us
When Kayla finally has the opportunity to build with whatever colour she can imagine, because she is not limited by the Sims 4 limited colour and pattern options, and still makes a blue suburban :P
Wow I didn’t know that the sims 3 had a newspaper delivered every day!
