Console Vault in-vehicle gun safe | REVIEW

- Console Vault offers an exact fit safe for many vehicles. I use mine to secure my handgun when I need to go into a non-permissive space. In the video, you see me install the safe in my 2019 Honda Ridgeline. You can check out the full written review at:

Had my vehicle broken into and had guns and valuables in Console Vault. Thieves got into it like butter. They somehow bent up the metal tab near the 4-digit dial pad and were able to open it. After I bent the tab back the Console Vault worked like new--except it didn't work! I have no idea how they got in other than bending that "lift" tab near the dial pad. I reached out (twice) to Console Vault to ask if they had any idea about the defect and they were no help, and actually didn't seem to care. They offered a new one, but as I said before, after I bent the tab back, it seemed to work like new. I don't know what a new one would do because thieves (or at least the ones that broke into my vault) could break in same as before.
I don't keep anything in there anymore (except my beer). You would be better off just hiding your guns and valuables.
Just ordered a a barrel key lock to replace the combination lock it came with. The combination lock is OK if you have good lighting and the time to fiddle with rotating the number wheels. If you use it at night, or want access quickly, the combination locks will be a problem. Also when you install the safe, put masking tape on your console plastic or you will scratch it up inserting the safe. Lastly, the tray in your Honda Ridgeline will only go forward to the pull. Otherwise, I like the safe.
Great product, easy to install, extremely well made, fits to perfection, and because of all of this, peace of mind which is priceless!

Thanks for the video. I installed the same in my Honda Passport. Fantastic product! I've owned numerous Console Vaults dating back to 2004 (they started in 2002) and have never had an issue with them. They've been in everything from my Rams to Fords to Hondas, and have never had an issue. I had one of my trucks broken into once and you could see where they tried to pry open the Console Vault but were unsuccessful. They are sturdy!
Bought one. Instructions show two screws being ran out the sides of the top frame plate. Are they just supposed to tension into the frame of the console?

I have a 2020 Passport (the SUV version of a Ridgeline basically) and I was super curious about how much space it took up in that middle console. That still leaves a ton of space in there for other stuff that I don't really need/want to lock up, I think I'm gonna order one of these for myself
Yes, I have it installed in a 2023 Passport and it leaves plenty of room on top for the tray plus anything you want to put on top of the safe. In fact, IMHO that is one of the key features to how Console Vault built their unit is you have plenty of room on top of it to put stuff which helps hide the safe underneath (in the event some fool breaks into your car and looks in the center console. They may get the stuff on top of the safe and assuming they see/know what it is underneath will NEVER get it out as it is that secure. I've owned numerous Console Vaults (never had any interest at looking at the other brands as Console Vault was and is the original) and have had wonderful experiences. I've had only one break-in while in Detroit with a Ram I previously owned and they attempted to pry open the Console Vault with no luck whatsoever.
suggestion,...set the camera exposure when you start so it doesnt keep changing the light and making it hard to see the video.

Does the Ridgeline have a cigarette plug port in the console in addition to the USB port? Does this block it and only allows access to the USB port?
Only the USB has a passthrough cable that mounts to the the cover in front of the lock. The power port (cig) is accessible inside the safe. It would require a big hole and make the cover easy to break into.
Is the vault a complete "box?" It looked like it might not have sides.
No, the lid sits on the frame...both are bolted to each other. It is not a solid box but once bolted together inside the console is unremovable. The Console Vault is extremely adequate at protecting your valuables but still leaving tons of space on top of the vault so you can still store stuff in your console (on top of the vault). Just stay away from the competing "brand" as I found it to be a cheap knockoff that was junk...and the combo locks were trash (easy to pry off).
I’ve been looking at these but just wonder how easy it is to break through. It seems someone could just cut through the front or back if they have the tools. Just unsure why these saves only protect 3 sides and not all around.
I'm with you on that. I imagine it's cheaper to make and also makes the inside dimensions larger. The goal is usually just to stop that quick smash and grab or to keep the workers at the car wash out of your stuff. I have seen other models that are a complete box

As of April 24, the company must be on its last gasps. Most storage items are “sold out”. That means poor management, which means it will go out of business. Or, it is going out of business and they are not restocking
That knob with the hook is a total security disaster. Easily use wrench and screwdriver to twist and break lock open. (Don’t ask how I know) I do get it, it still beats glove compartment but I have seconds thoughts. That’s me, and you certainly don’t have to follow my views. Keep carrying America!!!
Agree, all of my Console Vault's I'ved owned through the years have been the keyed version...the combo locks are junk.

The lock sucks, get a fingerprint or large buttons. nobody is gettng in that safe in a hurry.
Yeah, and when you're in need of your weapon and the fingerprint module has failed, scream like a girl for your wife to dig her 44 magnum out of her purse to protect ya! ;-) I've found the key to be the barrel lock key to be the best security method.
