@@TBOTSS I agree he wasn’t at his most eloquent in the Craig debate, but he was in no way destroyed, because Craigs case is fundamentally not solid and has been debunked, notably by actual physicists time and again. It’s just not interesting. The default position is the default position and not only has religion not met it’s burden of proof, it also fails to present itself as a plausible hypothesis. Craig is much ado about nothing. Lennox is even more lost in his own presuppositions. It’s super dated stuff at this point.

If you haven't already done so, do yourself the enormous favor of watching Christopher and Stephen Fry oppose the question "The Catholic Church is a Force for Good" in the youtube video which you can search for under that exact title. It is a brilliant deconstruction of Catholic practice and theology showing both men at, what is in my opinion, their very best. While the first watching is an unparalleled joy, I have found that subsequent viewings only deepen my respect for their unalloyed gifts.

That was CRINGE ATHEISM in full effect. Furthermore, the irony and the absurdity is that it’s common knowledge that in the end Christopher Hitchens actually became an apologist for the dirty deeds of the American empire…in Hitchens own words…
“The crucial thing is to be willing and able, if not in fact eager, to
l< I L L them without pity before they get started.” (Christopher Hitchens).
It's that last phrase that's particularly chilling. Reference: ('The Age' 5th September 2002):

It speaks volumes that Christopher Hitchens brother didn’t fall for Christophers rhetoric and straw man attacks on religious expression and was not so easily impressed by Christophers posh British accent as Peter Hitchens was a thoughtful and assertive English educated debater himself.
Moreover, Peter Hitchens eventually totally rejected his decades of atheism as a Godless Trotskyist and despite still being a contrarian he actually became a follower of Christ and has now found a sense of peace he never had before - yes? Which is beyond ironic!!
Moreover, this quote from Christopher Hitchens after being asked about his friendship with the Christian Larry Taunton during a long road trip with him speaks volumes and demonstrates that Christopher Hitchens was teetering on the edge of rejecting the left wing THOUGHT POLICE himself.....
According to Christopher Hitchens assessment of the Christian Larry Taunton…
“If everyone in the United States had the same qualities of loyalty and care and concern for others that Larry Taunton has, we’d be living in a much better society than we do.” (Christopher Hitchens).
Hitchens was actually a FRAUD as he had very positive relationships with Christians behind the scenes - right?
Equally, this quote from Hitchens praising the Christian Doctor, who tried to save his life Dr Francis Collins, actually speaks volumes about Hitchens private persona versus his stage persona that earned him a lot of money...
His cult followers get very triggered when you point out the fact that Hitchens secretly had Christian tendencies and he was even anti abortion!! According to Hitchens…
“Thanks to the wonderful American, Dr. Francis Collins, who's the head of the National Institute of Health, which includes the National Cancer Institute who did the human genome project, this, you know, ahead of time and under budget, a marvelous scientific achievement. He and I have met because we're opposite sides of the religion debate, we became friends that way. He's a very convinced Christian and we've become friendly debaters and he's taken a very kindly interest in my case and has helped me have my genomes sequenced because I'm trying to look for a more perfect identifiable match for an imitation they can find that's peculiar to me.” (Christopher Hitchens).
The brilliant Dr Francis Collins worked relentlessly to try and save Hitchens life and Francis Collins was a Christian and Hitchens friend. Hitchens was a fraud and secretly doubted his atheism and clearly had Christian tendencies and sympathies!! Obviously being a contrarian he would have struggled to admit this publicly!!

The fact is that after 9/11 and Bosnia and after the threats to Rushdie Christopher Hitchens main conclusions were that religion, and specifically Islam, was an underestimated force for dominance and evil in world affairs. He also concluded that the US empire could be a countervailing force for good, but that the left had become so detached from any international working-class movement it was incapable of challenging capitalism and Islam, and was on the wrong side of history - right?

Something that has been demonstrated at speakers corner where it is actually Christians that are working like Trojans and actually risking their lives to turn Muslims away from backwards thinking sharia law, Arabisation and Islamic religious apartheid!! I came to realise that a lot of people on the planet need religion because they lack the intellectual capacity to deal with life in another way. Thinking for yourself is no easy task and believing is so much easier.
    1) Some-thing can only come into existence out of a state of no-thing. Otherwise some-thing couldn’t be anything else than every-thing. The state of no-thing on the other hand has the potential to manifest every-thing. Therefore, some-thing and no-thing are of equal value. Not surprisingly the same result is obtained in mathematics but I prefer my own thought via a philosophical approach. Thinking for yourself has proven to be a great way to keep devils, angels, goblins, leprechauns and god(s) at a distance, but that aside.
    2) There are good reasons to compare the coming into existence of universes with something we all enjoyably know: ejaculations. Most spermatozoa are destined for the drain and only one amongst the million losses viable. We are living in one of the universes viable for life, probably amongst many failed or disabled universes; hence the absolutely not miraculous fine tuning of our cosmic surroundings. We’re lucky and we are translating our luck, a very common human characteristic, into pride, prejudice and the preposterous idea that a super being is overseeing each of us and sad or happy depending on the position of our hands above or below the sheets.
    3) So, the absolute beginning from the very first universe must have started from a very fine tilting point in a state where there was no difference between some- and no-thing. Quantum mechanics has learned us that energy can be borrowed for such a short time that the balance between the two states isn’t affected. Unimaginable stretches of time and evolution have done the rest in a trial, error and rarely, but in view of the incredible time lapses, unavoidable success way. We perceive the end result like a magic trick. Conclude that the pigeon out of the head is pure wizardry until the magician explains every step of the astonishing experience.
    4) if an all powerful god existed, why in the name of the one no one should believe in, would that being make the billion of years detour instead of just creating a made and ready universe? Unless you reject the fact, no, no longer the theory, but the fact of evolution. If that’s the case, then you are worshipping a god created or accepted out of pure and maybe even wilful ignorance.
    5) if god existed there would be no need to prove his existence because he / she / it would be perceived or at the very least be experienced by believers and non believers alike and since that’s clearly not the case it’s safe to say that god(s) are man made and not the other way around. That’s also why there are approximately, at present, 4.300 religions with matching super bff to suit different cultures, regions and tribes.
    6) Seneca, ancient Roman philosopher: ‘for common people religion is true, for wise men false and useful for rulers’.
The story of Jesus, his miracles and resurrection
Ask 1000 followers of Kenneth Copeland if he can heal the sick, paralysed and disabled. Well, you know the answer.
Ask 1000 followers of Copeland if he could resurrect someone from the dead. You know the answer
Ask 1000 followers of Copeland if they witnessed a resurrection performed by Copeland and at least 100 will testify on their life and the life of their children that they witnessed a resurrection done by one of the biggest spiritual con men in our day and age.
Should give you some idea about the value of testimonials in Jesus time.
People turn their wishes into beliefs and from that principle all religions are born.
Let's also not forget that resurrections where far from exceptional in the days of the Jesus. I wouldn't go as far as to say: 'one resurrection a day kept the gravedigger away', but still.
Jesus was a mediocre prophet and so delusional that he convinced himself to be the son of a non existing being. And it’s because of his mediocrity and the fact that his ‘teachings’ serve the rich, rulers and common people alike that he became so popular.

      Logic is an illusion (Nietzsche)
“Truths are illusions which we have forgotten are illusions.”
      - (Nietzsche, Reference from: On Truth and Lies in a Nonmoral Sense).
“Should I kill myself?” is the essential philosophical question.” (Albert Camus).
Merry chap but at least he’s “logically” consistent with his strictly reductive materialism, atheism or philosophical naturalism - right?
Life is an “horror” and “truth” is “illusory”. (Nietzsche)
Moreover, according to the prominent atheist Foucault…
“Storytellers continue their narratives late into the night to forestall death and to delay the inevitable moment when everyone must fall silent.” (Foucault).

Beauty is a mark of eternity, that is the eternal logos, the word!!
Reality and existence and in particular the qualities of experience such as language, that is meaning, purpose and love, that is inexplicable and intangible values such as Truth and goodness are not made of “matter” they are made of what [matters].
Furthermore, “we actually have a domain of deep language. When we fall into the domain of the deep language we are in the domain of the sacred”
We have this innate sense of literary depth and meaningfulness. Some stories are shallow and meaningless, some stories are incredibly deep, poignant and meaningful, and everyone feels that and knows it with every ounce of their being!!
And everyone pretty much appreciates and accepts that. You experience it with music. You experience it when observing the beauty in nature and more so when you observe inner beauty in others!! Any art form or experience there’s shallow aspects and there’s deep aspects!! And deep aspects move you and they move you so deeply they have emotional resonance!! And they call to you and challenge you to listen as well! They call you to a better version of your self!!

The fact is that Jesus of Nazareth using deeply beautiful and meaningful language, spread a universal message of love, without money, weapons, armies or political power, called to more people and conquered more millions than Alexander the Great, Caesar, Mohammed, and Napoleon; without modern biology, chemistry, physics or cosmology, Jesus Christ using deeply beautiful language called to more people, shed more light on things more human, more poignant, more divine and more beautiful than all philosophers and scholars combined!!
Jesus Christ using the art of language produced effects which lie beyond the reach of orator or poet; he called to more people and set more pens in motion, and furnished themes for more sermons, orations, discussions, learned volumes, works of art, and songs of praise than the whole army of great men of ancient and modern times!! This is just an historical fact!!
If you took the best qualities of all the greatest people that you have ever known share, and boiled those qualities down into one person that would be your archetypal hero. Furthermore, if you took the courage, bravery, self sacrifice, altruism, empathy and compassion of all the greatest archetypal heroes that ever lived, and boiled them down to one central figure that’s Christ [The One/The Logos/The Word].

The Greatest person in History... Jesus had no slaves or servants, yet they called Him Master. Had no degrees, yet they called Him Teacher. Had no drugs or medicines, yet they called Him Healer. He had no army, yet kings feared Him and wanted his followers dead. He won no great military battles, yet He conquered the world by bringing light into the world. He did not live in a palace, a castle or own vast lands and property and servants and yet they called Him Lord and king,
He ruled no nations, he did not seek to conquer all the world through force like the ancient Roman emperor’s or Islam or like Stalin’s atheist regime that was defined by atheism through its anti religious policies and death camps did. Jesus never carried out any of these depraved war monger like behaviours and yet they called Him Mightiest of Kings, Jesus committed no crime, yet they tortured and crucified Him. He was buried in a tomb and his followers despaired as they could not grasp the TRUTH he brought into the world and thought it could be completely extinguished by DEATH, Jesus still lives today.
“There is in the world only one figure of absolute beauty: Christ. That infinitely lovely figure is, as a matter of course, an infinite marvel.” (Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Letter to niece Sofia Alexandrovna)
According to one of the greatest authors that ever lived Fyodor Dostoyevsky…
“Even those who have renounced Christianity and attack it, in their inmost being still follow the Christian ideal, for hitherto neither their subtlety nor the ardour of their hearts has been able to create a higher ideal of man and of virtue than the ideal given by Christ of old” (Dostoyevsky).

All the people who wrote it claimed to be divinely inspired and that one book is the most sold book in all of human history. That name Jesus stands above all names. And that book will be here until the very end. Us Catholics not only have a book from Heaven but we have supernatural miracles here on earth that not even NASA nor top Nobel piece prize winner in science could explain. Supernatural miracles that defy the laws of nature, of time and space. Miracles that should not exist yet they stand strong in beautiful Catholic churches all around the globe. Those miracles are not there to pursade the unbeliever. Because we understand to a non believer even if one were to rise from the dead he would not believe. Even if God himself appeared to you , the non believer would think it was a dream. Those supernatural miracles that science cannot explain are there to further strengthen the church and God's people to show us that the things of God are from another dimension and no scientist, scholar or laboratory can deny what we know to be true to the depth of our core. We all must face death and judgement for our sins. But on that day I will have the blood of Christ and Jesus by my side. Hope he has mercy on us all.

When I hear christians talk on some of the atheist shows I often think it would be advisable for the hosts to ask, do you want to believe what you believe? If the christian is being honest 99.9% would say yes. Wanting to believe something indicates a confirmation bias. Many atheists like myself grew up with religion and wanted to believe it but the facts got in the way of continuing that belief. Maybe some atheists have a confirmation bias against religion but I think atheists generally stand on much firmer ground in limiting confirmation bias compared to christians (and theists in general). In order for atheists to arrive at their position on god they had to be willing to be objective and skeptical--whereas the vast majority of christians can't be honestly skeptical of their religion.

It declares humanity is totally depraved; that is, all of us have a sinful nature that affects all parts of our being (Isaiah 53.6; Romans 7.14). The New Testament tells us only through rebirth will humans see the Kingdom of God. It further tells us through rebirth our past sins will be washed away and we will never sin again as we will be one of God. Now I have trouble with all this. Why does God allow babies full of sin to be born? God created the Devil and created all sin so why does s/he perpetuated it. And you can't tell me a Serial Killer who is reborn will never kill again.
