  • I went fishing the tributaries of the salmon river in Pulaski New york. I hooked up on a good amount of fish and was able to land two. I was hoping for a coho salmon but ended up with two beautiful king salmon.

    Tough year in Michigan. There were SO many more last year. Ended up landing 3 in 4 days. Still the best fishing on the entire planet. Not even close to joking.

      @jagfishing836 I haven't fished the river in over 30 years and I've never caught a king yet. I've caught 2 cohosh. 1 in the lake and the other from the Trestle Hole. Back when snagging hooks were legal. My cousin is a guide up there so I can't wait for this trip. It's been in the works for 3 years now.

    Man those were some nice fish Jag looked like fun. Nice to know there is still some stand up people out there that are willing to help out another fellow fisherman. Now days it seems like people are always looking to take advantage of someone. If that would have been my fish left on the bank someone definitely would have taken it lol.. anyways glad to see your doing well jag, how’s that kids giveaway video coming along or did I miss it?😉

    What specific spinning Rod n Reel combination are you using?

    • @jagfishing836
      @jagfishing836  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Fishing the creek i simply use the ugly stick gx2 6.6 rod and kastking sharky 3000 reel. On the main river longer rod is better.

    How do you tell when your hook is in the mouth ?

    • @jagfishing836
      @jagfishing836  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I use bright color lures like orange. I dont like to fish this way "blind" because indont want to foul hook the fish. If the lure is visible and it catches a fin ill give it some slack so it just flows off the fish without any unnecessary and illegal hookup

    • @mattgohlke8216
      @mattgohlke8216 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Cool thanks. I live in Plattsburgh, when I was younger the Saranac River that flows through town was world class landlocked fishing. I could write a book about the attacks from fly fisherman, who back then also came here from all over the country to fish. I dont know what it is about a spinning rod in hand that makes a guy less than. I will say, it was often times outbursts of frustration from watching me catch 9 salmon and 2 browns in front of them in short time and they're on hour 9 of nothing but casting practice 🤷🏻‍♂️. That was all 20+ years ago, I dont hold any grudges 😜

    • @jagfishing836
      @jagfishing836  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I hear ya brother, they are the "experts" so they need to let the spinning guys know we suck at life haha. I personally dont care. I do what i enjoy and that is it. And the ones that are salty...... screw them

    these fish will bite.. to anyone wanting to come to NY, MI, WI, anywhere, they will actively bite many presentations and flossing isn't necessary. just not realistic to cast and immediately hook up, even if its in the mouth. just looks like snagging. still finding skein biting kings here in MI at the moment. tight lines

    please understand that these fish do bite in the river on egg patterns and out of aggression defending beds on stick baits and you do not have to snag them in the stagnant water. That is not the example we want to set for the youth and I have seen them on your channel.

    • @jagfishing836

      So... i dont respond to the hater comments( and i dont see this as one, i see this as potential constructive criticism)but ur post is sincere and i like what you have to say. I dont do this for views or anything like that. I make the videos because i enjoy fishing and editing videos. That being said i love fishing the tribs because when i am out there i love seeing these beautiful amazing fish conquer the smallest of streams and getting through some crazy obstacles (2" of water, beaver dams, down trees etc.) I fish the river quite often actually but i dont like it as much because i dont feel secluded and feel the the peace and tranquility of nature as i do in the tribs..... not to mention some of the people and their behavior on the river make me sick. Moving forward, to the great debate of "they bite." 4 years ago i spend an entire season trying to catch one that will "bite" and failed miserably. Tried plugs, egg sacs, the whole nine yards and could not get a bite. One day i even had a hole with a ton of fish and non would even bother. I know a lot of people say you have to fly fish but essentially they are doing the same thing that i am in this video but instead of using a peice of sponge and berkley trout worm they use flies and "floss" like i do and call them selves real fisherman and for lack of better term shit on me in my videos for "snagging". And i can 100% guarantee by flossing i can get 19/20 salmon in the mouth. Now with this being said and as i said before me finding your comment respectful i will say this, if you truly believe these fish bite on the main river, i would absolutely love to get on the river with you one day and if you were to be okay with being on youtube we can make a video doing this the "right way" and put this ancient myth of do the or do they not bite to rest. I know majority of my following watches these salmon videos and of this is infact true id love to show my viewers that i was wrong and how it is done. Thank ypu for commenting and being reasonable about your opinion.

      My first visit to that salmon river was this year, once in September and last week for steel. The kings I caught were takes, in the mouth on streamers, one on a barbless size 12 trout hook (my first king!) Yes Much less fish than the flossers saying they 'fly fish' your not fly fishing with sinkers IMHO, I used sink tip line and actually tight line euro nymphing to get real takes. Overall I much preferred the steel fishing due to lack of crowds and very aerobic fish. Good video all the same...

      @jagfishing836 go out with someone who really knows what they're doing to get them to bite. Sure, it's slower than snagging but much more rewarding. I've been with people on shore and in boats watching them slam plugs. I've also seen them go after flies/streamers or of aggression. We had three come in and strike flies right at our feet a couple weeks ago.

      Fly guys are so annoying, my God please help me to be as magnificent as they are one day, although I doubt I could ever reach their level of greatness in one lifetime.

  • @scumbub
    @scumbub 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Do these fish bite in the right conditions? Sure.
    Flossing is fine too. However.. It blows my mind that you and other people post videos sight snagging in stagnant water. There's nothing remotely sportsman-like about it. Kind of embarrassing, really.
