  • How does an acoustic guitar work? And how does the bracing affect the sound. Learn more about bracing and the physics of an acoustic guitar. Get an inside view on what I am working on and what method I am using to brace my guitar tops.
    Hi, I am Jakob and I am an industrial designer and guitarmaker from Germany and I am the creator of the Canna Guitars, handcrafted acoustic guitars with a body made of hemp. The guitars are 100% natural, with a truely unique avant-guarde design

    This is one of the most useful videos I have found on guitar bracing, well done. Love the comparison and scientific testing.

    I admire your work and love your thinking about braces. You have my respect.

    The I-beam bracing was all news to me. The testing of various bracing alternatives was also to my liking. I just hope you spend some more time in your future videos to explain (test?) the tonal qualities of various regions of the body top.

      btw. I am not using this technique anymore. It's way too hard to tune. Maybe I'll talk more about the bracing in a future video, but it's a lot about the feeling and not so much hard facts when voicing a top.

    Very useful (only seen it today). One question. And about tone influence of the I--beam VS triangular shape?

      I can't say anything about that in certainty because this was the only time I used this method but I think in a perfect world you should be able to make a lighter top with it. However in hindsight I am not doing it anymore because it's really hard to shape and so much more work for too little benefit. In total you maybe save 5-10 grams of weight. I hope it's still informative and hepls understanding the physics.

    This is super interesting. One question: The I-beam design on the actual soundboard braces that you showcase at 20:44 looks a lot more subtle and less pronounced than on the stand-alone I-beam bracing jigs that you used for the deflection demonstration. How much of the i-beam benefits are you keeping/losing due to the difference?

    • @cannaguitars4593
      @cannaguitars4593  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hard to tell since, in hindsight, the net weight benefit is so low, that I don't do it like that anymore. Just make the braces thin and high, and you get a similar result, and it's much easier to pull off. Hope that helps :)

    Is it possible to brace with arches that only contact the top at the nodes?
