  • She was the Rihanna of her time. Tamara West made her Randy Wilson debut with the song that made her a star and there was no looking back!
    America loved her. It was a shame what happened to her.

    Tamara was one of the first female artists on Motown in 1962.
    Unfortunatley she didn't get along with label mates Marvin Gaye and Millie Small
    calling them pompous parasites and Berry Gordy, although he didn't know what that meant, thought it sounded bad so he dropped her from the label in 1971. She later signed with Stax and her first single there was " Berry Gordy Is An A-Hole"
    which reached #3 on the charts. Gordy tried to sue her but the judge ruled against him citing "Fishhead vs Numnuts" so Gordy got his revenge by keying her car.

      That’s only part of the story. And most of what IS known has been hidden from the public… until now!
      Tamara was a legend. She was one of the first women from the world of Motown to go commando. She did have a rather nasty drug habit, but was able to kick it, thanks to a mysterious man she never talked about, especially because of his particular set of abilities.
      Just like every musician that found their way into the 70s, Tamara was no different in the fact that she wanted a film career. She was one of the first unknown musician turned actor of color to star in a series of blaxploitation films. She was a superstar!
      When Barry Gordy saw all of this, he regretted his decision to let her go from her contract. He begged her to come back but there was no way, unless he caved to her demands.
      Regardless, fame got the best of her and she chose to retire early in her career. She disappeared from the public eye and has yet to be found. Rumors have it she may be making a comeback as she could be secretly recording new material in private. But it’s all conjecture.

    What a gorgeous woman! No tats, piercings, unkept hair, etc., this is how glamourous women used to look. I've heard of other Motown artists that were turned off by Berry Gordy's BS. I'd take Tamara over Rihana any day.

      She had a purity but at the same time, she was a little difficult to get along with. Her defense mechanism, some say, based on her dealings with Gordy as well as others. Rihanna had nothing on her. Nor did Ms. Whitney Houston. Whitney got her style from Tamara. Her street smarts really helped her become the success she was.

    The B-side to this was called (in a nod to the ice cream brand, she claimed) "Mr. Softee".

      Gordy tried to convince her to release “Mr. Softee but she chose to stand firm and release this track instead. Being her first hit, it was amazing that it shot her into the stratosphere. We all love Tamara West!!

      The lost story was she ORIGINALLY founded the Supremes. Yup. The conflict between the members of this chart topping group was so strong that Tamara was forced out. She threatened to sue but not before she was encouraged to break out on her own and the rest is history!

    these astroturfed comments are ridiculous. at some point you have to STOP the illusion and let the consumer receive the product. we ALl loved Whacky Packages when we in second grade but you're going too far with the comments and also the "dirty blues" theme is only ONE angle and you're stretching it too far.

    • @TheEuphonicEngineer
      @TheEuphonicEngineer  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      You’re absolutely correct! But yet another long forgetten and little shared story about Tamara is she overshadowed Aretha in so many ways and drove a wedge through their already fractured relationship. The real story is some said she was way more talented than Aretha and that stuck in her ass so badly but that’s another story for another time…
