I just don't think it's worth the asking price. Especially here in Australia, where it's about $1,200 just for the console and 1 controller. If you need an extra controller, that's another $120. A plastic stand? $50. Disc drive? $160. Some games? $60, $70, $80, $110 each, depending on how broke you wanna feel afterwards. Can't forget about online services! That will be $21 per month, thank you! You're gonna need a mortgage for this thing.
Your phone costs $800 and didn't even come with a charger. What are we really complaining about? Don't think it's worth $700, don't buy it. All your games still run on PS5.
@thedarkemissary Did you even read my comment? It's not $700 here. It's $1,200, and I'm not some idiot who goes out and buys overpriced phones. I got my Samsung A23 for $300 aud, which, mind you, cames with a charger and cable. I also only bought the thing because my old phone's battery died after 6 years and I couldn't replace it. Also, also. I don't even own a PS5, which means if I did get either one of them, I'd still be draining my bank account just to get them set with some games and accessories anyway. Especially the PS5 pro
@@thedarkemissaryYou’re right, dont buy new phones lol that’s also dumb. But if all you have in defense for this obvious display of anti consumer business practice is “phones are overpriced too” and “then dont buy it”, you’re missing the point.
On a hardware level the PS5 pro is just one extra TB storage and a 60 compute unit GPU instead of 36. The digital PS5 is 450 USD but the pro is somehow 700? 1TB high end SSDs are around 60-70 USD so the bigger GPU absolutely doesn't justify a further 270 USD. Especially when it's 4 years old RDNA 2 architecture.
I’m getting one from EBgames for around $600 because I’m trading in my current PS5. So for me I think it’s worth it. Getting the frame rate boost for half price seems good to me

Flexing a 700 Dollar item for social status ist wild. It's Not expensive or rare enough to impress anyone while being too expensive to showcase your smart choices.
Well they added a bigger GPU and 2 terabytes of storage plus an extra 2gb of memory ram. That alone is a lo t of money. Let’s say you have a PC and want to upgrade it, that alone will cost you a few hundreds. So in reality the PS5 PRO is a decent price.
@@stevencuellarart9495 They did not decrease the price but even increased it for "old hardware". Scummy, remarkable but still kinda scummy. Do not get me started how Europe people gets shafted on the whole price side, reminds me of the good old ps3 era where everyone got a new DS3 controller except Europe, nope our console still got the old one for I believe it was about 2 years later. Price anchorage hey it is just 700 euro. No. It's about 900 with stand and disc drive. The old console should be cheaper by now (just imagine we had a price DECREASE like in the old times). So I believe the price is absolutely unreasonable in any kind of scenario. Ohh and don't forget games like space marines 2 will still get under 30 fps during gameplay, because of "bad programming"/high CPU power need.
The supply of disc drive add-ons seems entirely intentional. No manner of 'we didn't expect the demand' is going to fly here, because they knew people would still need a disc drive for already owned games.
Literally the same character models and environments that look the exact same on ps4 just now 60 fps 😂 then games get mad when people don’t like that their games aren’t 60 fps because now there really isn’t a difference

Nobody but fantards and brain dead Xbots care that there are PC ports of PS5 games...the same brain dead Xbots that don't buy games so MS has to put their games on their literal "competition" consoles to make money. Meanwhile Sony does PC ports to make extra money. Cool story though.....MS has a new Xbox to sell you for $600 with no upgrades, no disc drive and no option to add a disc drive, oh and don't forget to upgrade you WelfarePass or you lose games....OH wait in 4 years MS has released 4 games this gen, especially when you take away them trying to buy up the industry and remove those few third party multplat releases

I saw it with cyberpunk, tlou2 and resident evil village. I played re village on ps5 first and i saw a pretty great difference with the ps4. I honestly couldn’t go back on ps4 at that point but if i would have stayed ok ps4 i would probably feel like it could still hang in there too. Sony learned from Apple and Nintendo. Restrict supply and demand, remove standard accessories you normally include like the stand, change things up ever so slightly so you have to buy a new set of accessories, remaster/“remake” the same games from generations ago and sell at full price, etc. Glad I move over to PC years ago.
@Crashed131963 I said the only reason to ger a console is for the physical games. If I have to go digital I have no reason what so ever not to put the money on my PC. How used games don't really work for PC has always been a weakness.

I have been playing around with the Pro for a day now, installed the drive, stand, got all my PS4/PS5 games loaded and tested, and I absolutely love the Pro, and the added storage. Money is no object and for me, I say money well spent as I am a console only gamer and needed to replace my launch digital PS5 as back in 2020 could not find a disc PS5, and it allows me to retire my PS4 Pro since many of my PS4 games are physical. It probably is not needed for all gamers but I am fine with it.
The only thing I've noticed on PS5 pro is the image is little bit more sharper and maybe a little bit smoother than the regular PS5, I don't know if 700$ (accessories excluded) is the right call for it.
They just slowly preparing to take 1000+ dollars for console, like apple, and companies like NVIDIA don‘t make it easier since they ramp up their prices too
Great coverage as always 👊🏿. I mean i dont even know why a mid generation refresh needs reviews. Coz i think it always ends up being the same thing. I always compare it to yearly phone upgrades. Do you absolutely need it? No Are some people gonna buy it? Yes Are some people not gonna buy it? Yes Coz base consoles will always handle every game that comes out in that generation fine. But for those who want that small incremental boost then for them it makes sense. So i reckon we will probably see similar sales numbers to previous pro consoles where usually once the generation ends they only make up about 10-17% of the total sales to signify that customer base that want the newest and latest ala the yearly phone buyers who buy a new phone every year rather than riding out 3+ years with one device. And also theres a percentage of people in that 10-17% who they dont have a base console so for them it makes sense that they would go in on the pro if available. Personally for me i have never needed a mid generation refresh. All my consoles have survived the generation from PS1 up to now on the PS5 (fingers crossed of course coz i may say this now then my console dies lol so i can only say as of me writing this).
@Crashed131963 Yep 💯 pro versions are basically just a luxury item that's not essential. So it makes sense for those people that held off on the base model but for any of us who already own the base model we can just comfortably wait till the 6 comes round then make the switch.
Luke, I'm sorry, but I think that buying the Pro to play a single timed exclusive before it comes out on PC is a much worse idea than buying it when you already have a PS5 and you don't play on PC. We are talking about paying $700 to play a single game a year earlier, while having a worse experience, vs. spending $700 to improve your experience with a lot of games, but don't get access to any extra titles. At least if you buy don't buy it to play a single year you could play a year later the platform doesn’t become useless after you finish that game. You can give it an actual good use as your main platform, and I'm not saying that the PS5 Pro is useless or anything, but if your PC is better than it, why would you use it?
I think it’s not that people can’t tell the difference between the two, it’s that the difference doesn’t matter. Most games look so good anyway all you need is a good framerate.
I bought a PS5 pro for the sake of just having the best console out there. I like consoles in general, new hardware and design. It could be Nintendo, Xbox, it doesn’t matter which company, I just like to collect the new tech. Do I need it? Not really but to me it’s exciting having to open a box, with a new console that you know it has better hardware/performance. So yes this is a product aiming at a different audience… like myself 🤷🏻♂️
And that is fine. No one should have a say on what you do or do not buy and in your comment, you're honest which most fanboys can't claim. So you do you man and hope you enjoy. And this coming from a guy with no intrest in consoles anymore.
Who needs a stand for vertical? My original didn’t have the stand for 4 years. It stands vertical fine. I can see the difference between 1440p and 4k. It’s the improvement with HDR that pops. I had both hooked to my tv and switched between games on both and it’s night and day.
Very funny Luke. Starts off by commenting on how a 4K game system review should be in 4K. This video is only 1080p. That is one wicked sense of humor you got there Luke. 😂
I was in the PS4 player category, also/because I'm poor. I had been waiting for a $600 PS 5 pro, but instead it's $800 including tax and no disc drive...so I went ahead and bought a used base model PS5 with disc drive for $350 on FB marketplace, saving about $450, which I think is worth not having to use a microscope to spot the graphic "improvements". Another thing Luke didn't mention in the upgrade chart is that...if you don't have a 4k tv (that is large enough), which I don't, you can't take advantage of the graphic or performance improvements anyway
I'll do it ONLY if the people who constantly cry about it or have piss poor jobs are willing to STFU, stop crying that everything should be welfare or coupon day priced and get lazy or I love welfare tattooed on their head. Not everything needs to be made for everyone.
I think resolution thing will be game to game basis. I could immediately tell FF7R performance mode to quality mode. I ended up playing quality mode at 30 fps because I didn’t like the muddy look of the performance mode
I’m in the same boat as your wife as I’m not bothered by inferior visuals. I couldn’t care less about graphical upscaling. Since I own the base PS5, skipping the pro model is an easy no brainer for me!
Let’s see… for $700, you could get a Switch, pro controller for around $350 with $350 left for games. You can get Zelda BOTW with DLC for around $80 and Zelda TOTK for $70. For the remaining $200, there’s plenty to choose from. For example, you could get all the Xenoblade Chronicles games or some Pokémon games or Mario games or 10-20 good eshop games which are always on sale. Personally, I only got into Zelda BOTW this past year after playing TOTK and it still holds up.
And play at 720p on a big screen? No thanks . When the last time a new AA or AAA game played on a switch ? Look at the 2025 game line up , not many play on a Switch.
I wish i could buy a 5090 at retail, BUT mannnn itll be tough to get one with all these scalper bots. It is rough to get a 4090 founders right now at retail. So if you wont spend an insane amount on ebay, you are looking at waiting prob 2 years or more to get one at a good price. It sucks.
The Founders Edition card was a limited production run so Nvidia could say the retail price was $1599. I don't think we know exactly how many they produced, but it's safe to assume the number is relatively small. There were AIB models that sold for $1599 too, but those also dried up quickly. Your best bet for getting a 5090 at launch is probably a Microcenter, if you live near one. If not, I'd suggest you find some sort of inventory tracker and try to order one off of Best Buy's website. There are discords and Twitter users that usually have good info about when and where restocks are going to occur. It took me about 6 weeks of active pursuit to purchase a 4090 at retail in 2022, but by early 2023 they were relatively easy to find in stock (I'm talking about AIBs, not the FE). It may be more difficult this time around due to increased interest in AI applications, but my advice is to be patient and don't pay the scalpers!
You can, i bought my asus tuf gaming rtx4090 OC at retail (1700usd) from bestbuy in February last year around 4 months after launch. You just need patience. I knew i wanted tuf gaming oc or rog strix oc variant and I went into the store and tuf oc was on the shelves among gigabyte and msi variants so i picked it up paid 1699 and came home happy😊. The reason these things sold at black prices because people have no patience and they buy it from scalpers instead of waiting. If people wait instead of buying at the scalping prices then the scalpers wouldn't get any profits and will stop selling these products at high prices. The blame is on people both buyers and scalpers.
@ i have seen them at retail prices, i think you can still get it on amazon. But i wanted the founders because of the size. The variants are HUGE. But you are right about scalpers though. The 5090s will be gone in an instant 😭😭😭
I'm legally blind so I can't tell the difference anyways but I can tell the difference between 400,500 and 700 in my bank account... but since I have two ps5 ima trade one in and pay the difference.. and I wonder if it being the disc vision will make a confidencing trade to someone with a pro that with extra 150 bucks on top if not ima see what game stop will do
My guess is Sony is making a profit off of the pro. It's not like the first edition that needed an install base to buy games so they would sell it at a lose. MOST people buying the pro already have a PS5 so they wouldn't make additional profit on game sales since these people are already in the ecosystem.
The thing about "side by side" tests is people NEED to see it to know the difference as you said. Without that, most people wouldn't notice a difference at all
I just wish there was more incentive like some exclusive games or something. Paying $700 excluding disc drive and stand just isn’t worth it for the average gamer.
I still remember when I bought my first 4k monitor; upgrading from my 1440p monitor. Both were 144hz. And I can clearly remember the first time I booted it up and played Apex Legends, and I was blown away how much of a difference there was. Like I had just gotten laser eye surgery to fix my vision. It was that much clearer. So when people say there isn’t much difference between 1440 and 4k, and you have to really TRY to see the difference, I’m just baffled and can’t believe it.
Yeah I am baffled that Luke says that you can't tell the difference between 1440p and 4K. It is not as clear as going from 1080p to 1440p but damn I can easily see it. However I must say that I play PC games on a big 4K TV. I think playing on a 30 inch monitor, the difference wouldn't be as noticeable. But it it absolutely something you can see with your plain eyes without much examination, and during gameplay too. This just reminds me of the people 10 years ago saying you can't see the difference between 30 and 60 fps. Baffling.
Probably has something to do with viewing distance. Which is the same thing as the graphics improvements with the pro. Unless you are close to the screen you may in fact not be able to tell much of a difference, and lots of people are sadly way farther away than even optimal viewing distances let alone up close.
I 100% agree with you, but keep in mind it's way easier to see the difference in small detail on a 27-32 inch monitor that's maybe 18-24 inches from your face vs a 55-65 inch TV that's 10+ feet away. You have to be surprisingly close to a 65" TV for it to occupy the same percentage of your field of view as a 27" monitor in a normal desktop setup. Off the top of my head, it's like 5 feet. Very few people are sitting that close to their TVs, so consoles can get away with more upscaling/lower base resolution. I'm not saying it's impossible to tell the difference between 4k and 1440p in a couch gaming setup, but it's not nearly as night and day as it is in a desktop setup.
The only time i have noticed resolution differences was in Cyberpunk 2077 with how the lights on the cars would hit the road, but the jittery nature of dropping to 30fps from 60fps made me nauseous.
It looks like an apple shitbox. The marketing talk sounds like apple bs. Cost apple money and delivers almost nothing (60fps should have been standard already) in exchange like apple. Sony really out here thinking their shit doesn't stink.
Didn’t xbox just released a 2tb series x for 600$? This is just 100$ more for a considerable improvement in performance and ai upscaling, this same performance on pc would cost a lot more.

I wannt to add a Citation on what you mentioned about not being able to tell the difference between 1440p and 4k. You absolutly can deppending on your viewing distance. It is Much more noticeable on Monitors at maybe 12 - 24 inches from your monitor. Defiently not so much when your 6 - 8 ft away from your tv but its still there . The biggest difference your gonna see is defiently just a softer blur on a tv at a lower res thats not native to the tv/monitor. With that being said. I would defiently sacrfice 4k for 2k to get better frames If I needed to in the past before upgrading to my rig I have now.
Just buy it, people need cheaper used PS5 OG and Slim consoles. And if more people buy into the Pro hype, more people wil lsell their "older" PS5 for cheap. Perfect
18:36 look how washed and blurry this is. "Dude trust us raytracing and fake resolution is the future, it doesnt matter it destroys all detail in the image and looks less crisp in motion than a ps2 game"
Disc drives are starting to become more avlible. I saw a bunch on the shelf at Walmart earlier today. I could have grabbed one or 7 with no fuss if I had wanted to.
Get the Pro if you really care about having both quality mode and 60fps. If you're fine with the fidelity of performance mode in the base ps5, go with that instead.
If you truly care about frame rate then dont bother, some benchmarks have shown that in quite a few games it tops 50 fps rather than consistently being on 60, ppl should just buy a pc atp
The pro performance mode and pro graphics mode look identical besides the fact that the graphics mode is slightly sharper. Those extra frames might be more important in combat, but in exploration it’s virtually interchangeable.
It makes perfect sense to me to upgrade now. I traded in my old PS5 for half the price of my new PRO(this won't always be the case, better trade it in when it still has a decent value) and I don't need a stand or a disk drive. I have about 15 games I waited to play on the PRO, not to mention the PSVR2 upgrades(that neither you or IGN even mention). The PRO is a solid enthusiast piece of hardware and it makes little sense to wait if you want to play console games at their best, it obviosuly helps to trade in your old PS5 or get the PRO if you don't have one yet. P.S: you actually get 1.1TB of extra storage on the PRO compared to the regular PS5.

Knowing that the Pro still uses the same Ryzen 5 3600 CPU as my 5 year old PC isn't very encouraging, and you can see it with how it STILL battles to reach 60fps. That's the baseline requirement for me - a CPU that can reach 60fps. If you don't have that, then there's no point in a meaty GPU.
I only Play in 60fps mode on my Base Ps5. I never use 30fps fidelity mode . Playing new games at 1440p/60 or 1080p/60 for $500 is a great deal. I would rather play at 1080p/60 without RT than 4k/30fps with Ray Tracing .

The fact that Sony came out with a $700 console to have no compromise when it comes to fidelity vs performance just makes me realize I should never buy another console again. I was sold on this idea back in 2020 when the "mOsT pOwErFuL cOnSolEs" were being released. Once they started making current-gen exclusive games I thought we would finally see returns on that investment. Obviously, I was being naive.
It can also be true that the product actually has a value and they are pricing it accordingly. Oh, and this is probably for a 10% share of the whole PS5 sales, not made for everyone, not made to replace the standard version.
I don’t see a point in getting the PS5 and Xbox Series consoles. The games coming out aren’t that good and the ones that are good are few and far in between. Plus I think it’s obvious that Sony and Microsoft are pushing for a new digital age which for me is a no go. Think I’ll just buy a modded 360 and play all my old games for years to come
No way I'm upgrading to a 50 Series card when they drop. I'm betting Nvidia will continue to price gouge, especially with the 5080 and 5090. I may upgrade to a 4080 if the prices drop enough, but if not I'm perfectly fine with my 3080.
I keep hearing about the disc drives being unavailable everywhere, and while some online locations have them off and on, at just about every Walmart, Target, and Beat Buy I've been into over the past month has had them. At least 5 or more in stock. I know it can be hit and miss in different cities, but I figured they would be few and far between.
You probably live in a "red state" rural area like Indiana or Ohio if I had to guess. Where the people are wiser and need to see value in their purchases.
€800 for a PS5 Pro (most powerful console) is too expensive but €1000 for not even the best GPU is normal? Feels like a double standard tbh, happy with the performance upgrade and its about €450 with selling the regular PS5 which most people will already have who are looking to buy the Pro.
There's really no technical reason a game console couldn't use a 3rd party USB Blu-ray drive to read a disc. If console makers are going to offer hardware without the option to have a disc drive included in the box they really should support that.
@ryans413 The Ps5 pro is a laugh ...they could have just released a PS5 slim upgrade... Noone would complain, more memory n yes an elite controller....base on what Luke is saying Sony is no longer selling products at a lost ...new management
I am in theory a target for this, I have the home theater to take full advantage of it but I have a primarily disc collection and the disc drive standard PS5 and the Pro just smacks a bit of a rip off, like the increment isn't worth the near 800 US I'd need to get it and a disc drive
When I pre ordered mine at gamestop I told them I absolutely need a disc drive and of course the girl said they didn't have any. We'll I said forget it then so she called her manager, and tada! They had 1 for me in the back they saved for me.. stand drive and system was 900$. I bought a car less than 20yrs ago for half of that and a Toyota to boot!
It’s sitting on store shelves for a reason. Most people are speaking with their wallets, and Sony better take notes! Not only does it not have a physical drive, but not including a stand is a blatant slap in the face to everyone who buys this thing. The way Sony is selling this thing and its accessories is just wrong!
The disc drive commentary is pure conspiracy theory. I purchased mine maybe a week and a half ago when I decided I was going to get a Pro from Best Buy. Then when I went to pick up my console today at Gamestop they had another fresh batch of drives ready for sale. They are not extremely high stock, or maybe they're highly in demand, but at least in Canada they aren't being withheld to boost digital sales.
If this allowed me to play a substantial amount of games at 4k 60fps (or upscaled 1440p) on my 4K gaming monitor then I’d buy it. But the only games I’d play on it are Demon Souls and Ragnarok, both of which I’ve played, and one of which is on Steam
Each to their own of course (no judgement) but for me personally when the PS5 Pro costs at least $1200 Australian dollars, buying a PC just makes more sense at that price point.

The fact of the matter is that most people have gone digital. 80% of all games sold on PS5 are digital. People's music, movies, PC gaming & console gaming are most all digital these days. I think Playstation said somewhere that like 1 out 5 people have used their disc drive. I personally have been digital since PS3/360 generation (that's when i started transitioning over to digital). And everyone i know personally is pretty much all digital now. I think if anyone i know does buy any physical anything. It's more or less about having it as a sorry of collector item.

Sony learned from Apple and Nintendo. Great coverage as always 👊🏿. I mean i dont even know why a mid generation refresh needs reviews. Coz i think it always ends up being the same thing. I always compare it to yearly phone upgrades.
Do you absolutely need it? No
Are some people gonna buy it? Yes
Are some people not gonna buy it? Yes
Coz base consoles will always handle every game that comes out in that generation fine.
I always skip the Pros. People holding off buying a Ps5 for 4 years to get the Pro.
in two years the Ps6 will be out . That's when I move on .

Then just wait and don't be a idiot consumer.

@@Crashed131963 Good for you? I don't think you understood my comment though. Mode is irrelevant. The CPU is a bottleneck and prevents the console from reaching a consistent 60 in a number of games, such as Elden Ring.
@@Crashed131963look up how a mid range cpu keeps up with a good high end GPU it’s called bottleneck. If you are running a game at 4K60 and you have maximum graphics set to the highest. If your GPU is at 90% and your cpu is at 30% then you won’t be getting the maximum performance out of the cpu and GPU
Oh you can tell the difference in 4K and 1080p. I have been a 4K gamer since I bought the 1080ti. Now what made the big difference for me in 4K is the advent of HDR10.
I got one and damn. I’m impressed. It really improves the frame rate on older gamers and the newer ones that have pro upgrades are freaking fantastic
I feel like the ps5 pro is not worth getting
I already have a base model Series X and a base model PS5 and can’t say I even remotely feel the need to buy any upgraded models of either.
I'm in the same boat you are Have a series X and a ps5. Bought storage upgrades for each and that's all I've done.
And no one asked you to either
@@brianbiswell7591 same! I do not see the need for a upgrade 4 years later and prob 2 before the ps6, I prefer to invest in a storage expansion and a better controller or headsets.
Where the people are wiser and need to see value in their purchases.
can't even play concord in 4k
€800 for a PS5 Pro (most powerful console) is too expensive but €1000 for not even the best GPU is normal? Feels like a double standard tbh, happy with the performance upgrade and its about €450 with selling the regular PS5 which most people will already have who are looking to buy the Pro.
There's really no technical reason a game console couldn't use a 3rd party USB Blu-ray drive to read a disc. If console makers are going to offer hardware without the option to have a disc drive included in the box they really should support that.
Tbh i dont know why im suprised with the PS5 pro when they release a PS portable
Portal is actually not bad because it didn’t cost 700 dollars
@ryans413 lol what U say....Please stop ...it's a controller with a Kindle tablet....
@@LeonBarnes85 yep and ? The pro is just a PS5 with slightly less blurriness. Should not cost 700 dollars
@ryans413 The Ps5 pro is a laugh ...they could have just released a PS5 slim upgrade... Noone would complain, more memory n yes an elite controller....base on what Luke is saying Sony is no longer selling products at a lost ...new management
I wonder how long will the die hard fans put up with the nickel n dime...
Sony is trying to make their money back from Concord 😂😂
12:19 Luke, as an "average gamer", I have never noticed the difference between 30fps vs. 60fps. I just know my games look good and don't lag.
The normal PS5 pro will not be selling out and the disc drives are being scalped too
The factor no one is talking about here is that all of the tests being done on this console are with games not developed with it in mind.
Disk drives😂😂😂 i walked into Walmart and there were 5 of them just sitting there!!
Each to their own of course (no judgement) but for me personally when the PS5 Pro costs at least $1200 Australian dollars, buying a PC just makes more sense at that price point.
for me having an high-end pc (and even when I didnt had one). I already go with the mentality of "I'm gonn have a worse experience than on my pc" but I can get over it because most of the time I'm playing exclusives on my PS5.
"Available Nobember 7th 2024"... well done IGN (5:35)
The problrm with upgrading pc next year to the 5000 series is gta 6 the years biggest game isnt coming to pc for 2 years.
The advertising for this said it would get rid of the need for choose graphics modes & all I'm hearing are graphics modes for the pro. $700 & still gotta pick a mode.
Bro says wait on the switch 😅😅😅😅🎉🎉😂😂
For that price, at least give us the stand for free, for crying out loud.
I just walked into my country ass Walmart in Northern Alabama and bought a disc drive a SSD, and some games. I ain't know that they're that hard to find. I can get some for some people
Ppl might want to save up for ps6 because thats gonna be expensive. Probably wont have a disc drive, Probably gonna drop at 7 or 800$ and no stand 🤔
I still have a ps4 pro, should i get the 5, the pro, or a seriesx?
Try and play the new Dragon Age and the other 670 games the Ps5 can play that the Ps4 can not . Your late .
I can tell the difference in 1440 and 4k...I also game on a 55 inch 4k tk only 3-4 feet away
