I saw this lecture in my first semester of ChemE in 2007... today I am a product development and process engineer for a flexible packaging company 😉 this lecture convinced me I was in the right engineering specialty.. and somehow youtube recommended this to me today.. warms my heart ❤

@@alensabu5484 yes, but your getting ahead of yourself, I'd say make sure you are good at math in general, get your algebra in good shape for what you will face in college courses for chemical engineering, if you could have a good understanding of pre calculus that is a big plus, it's the most important foundation and with that you'll get a good grasp of physics, chemistry, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, etc. again, make sure to have your math and algebra skills in check first

@@joeking3688 I just got a bachelor's degree back then, I don't really know if I have what it takes to pursue a PhD really, especially in chemical engineering, a PhD way more in depth than in an undergraduate degree and I don't know that I wanted to undergo that much stress again. currently I'm thinking of pursuing a masters degree, in materials engineering because that is mostly what applies to my job nowadays, that would help me more understand the characteristics of materials and how they behave under different conditions, specially polimers

علي المعمري you forgot to say its 20$. we had 100-200page scripts that acompanied our lectures and it only cost the cost for the paper+ink. 20$ would be 4-5 of these

yeah 20$ sounds like a lot especially when you know how much tuition fees are, you'd think they could cover that... but as others have said, I'm sure buying books is common practice and they can be way more expensive, and it's the US we're talking about...

It sounds like Professor Robertson is very serious about chemical engineering being a "rough course," as I know it was for even some of THE most capable people in the College of Engineering at my own state school alma mater. But here is the thing that impressed me: he said that probably at least SOME of the TA's did NOT pass his course the first time around, so they just dug right in and took it again and DID pass it! I really admire such persistence. We NEED that in the fields Stanford has!

@@teukurhazes3254 If you're solely doing it for the salary, then I'd suggest you switch majors, as the courses can be quite challenging. If you do well, I had friends who went straight into industry with starting salaries between 50,000 to 80,000 and they are all doing very well. No one from my class struggled to get employment after graduation. Chem'E can also open doors to pursue a PhD, med school, or law school; and the courses overlap with other science majors, so you can easily do a double major in chemistry or physics, or completely switch to those majors early on. Hope that helps! I went on to pursue a PhD in materials science and now work as a research scientist for a chemicals company.
