It took me a minute..but this is how I see the video.. This is what I think it symbolizes. The office may symbolize the “rat race.” A way of life in which people are caught up in a fiercely competitive struggle for wealth or power. Or it can symbolize “the business” (or the music business) side of life. When she’s on the chair, it looks like it’s spinning in different directions like a compass. And then finally it stops in one direction and starts pulling..and then it pulls her right off the chair and she’s going through walls standing..her arm/hand is behind her. Like her hand is searching for the hand it’s supposed to hold. But it gets to this wall that she can’t seem to get through. Does it symbolize a metaphorical wall that Billie is putting up that is keeping her from getting to her love? Or maybe a wall someone else is putting up? Preventing Billie from getting to him/her? She gets pulled up the wall..and then dropped..but can’t seem to get through it. But to the right of that wall is a darkened hallway into a darkened room. And in some shots, it’s a darkened doorway. Does that symbolize the fear of falling in love? Finding that person? Fear of the unknown? She can just go around that wall and walk down that hallway or walk through that door..but she doesn’t. Also..the way she sings that second verse? While sitting and standing against that wall? Like she’s aching to get to the person on the other side of it? It’s like she’s desperate to get to this other person.
