did anyone else immediately tear up when the crowd started singing with her?! what a full circle moment 😭
Yes...I'm sobbin
They came in so strong so immediately…sooo many goosebumps. She deserves every moment.
Goosebumps 🩷
Yes omg
I was singing along in my living room! That moment gave me chills ❤
i wasn’t expecting “pink pony club” to be performed tonight, but it makes sense since she is introducing herself to a lot of viewers who probably have never heard of her and this song is a true introduction into who she is as a singer, artist, and person! 💖 way to go chappell!
I thought she’d do Naked In Manhattan!
I love this song
Never knew of her but I love her! What a great voice song band everything! 💋
I thought it was going to be “Good Luck Babe” but was pleasantly surprised
Her voice is flawless so anything she sang would have been good, but I feel like a better introduction would have been Good Luck Babe or Hot to Go, just because they're more like 'commercial' if that makes sense.
I'm almost 60, and damn if this doesn't give me "the kids are alright" feels. My heart is throbbing with pride, bittersweetness for the joy and freedom she represents countered with the sorrow for all the past generations of youths crushed and abused for simply trying to be themselves. This is HOPE.
Beautifully stated.
Honestly, I'm early 30s and still feel crushed... Things are a changin' tho, I can feel it. 💗
Huh? Freak show
literally makes me cry every time like nothing else
WOW - you are really grabbing at straws with your ridiculous analogy. 😒
There is absolutely NO correlation to "the kids are alright". 😒
The message of each song is NOT the same.
I am 68 years old, my first time hearing and seeing the artist, and have to say that everything about this performance is so wonderful that I was crying with joy and admiration and pride by the end.
68 with you. Great song. excellent lyrics and performance.
You’re gonna go down a huge rabbit hole with this music it’s amazing
What a sweet sentiment

I've been watching SNL for 30 years and I don't even think I've seen such a wonderful, put the mike out, live audience singing reaction.
Every person who made it into the audience tonight must be a true fan- I have friends who tried to make it in saying tonight was a one-of-a-kind kind of line.
Got chills seeing that.
I never paid attention to her before good or bad and I love SNL for introducing me to so many popular artists I can't keep up with she's phenomenal

65 year old-time proghead, here, and after reading an article on her I decided to take a wild punt on her album. It's absolutely glorious: such wild fun, so nuanced and filled with so many moods. Today of all days, I need this, I so badly need this.
It’s so incredible isn’t it?! Truly captivating
I'm a 40 year old male metalhead, and I loved this, she killed it, blew my mind. I loved how it was like, Kate Bush mixed with 80's Stevie Nicks, with some David Bowie and Rocky Horror elements mixed in
Have you heard good luck babe? That's my favorite song of hers.
@@epicendergamer8535 I loved her VMA performance
YES!!
I'm a 51 year old metalhead. This SNL was my first time hearing of her. I really like her voice, but as soon as the guitar kicked in, I was hooked.
fantastic description.
This performance is so powerful for at least three reasons:
1. Show me another live performance on SNL where the performer is confident enough to make the audience sing their song before them, and gets this response
2. Chappell Roan is the most culturally relevant example of the American dream come true right now. We haven’t had a “normal person“ shoot to stardom this fast in this manner since Kelly Clarkson
3. The songs she chose for this performance are yet another move of pure confidence. Rather than choosing the obvious route to appeal to the masses with “good luck, babe“ she performs her first ever hit, which is now four years old, along with a brand new song that hasn’t even been released yet, and probably won’t be for months.
She is a powerhouse, bold, talented, and authentic in just about everything she does. In my opinion, she has earned her ability to be a diva because she isn’t trying to make everybody happy, and that’s clear. She knows exactly who she is and will not compromise. What a star.
"The Giver" is also a fantastic song, and the set design for her two numbers were incredible... bursting with color and vibrant fun. She's amazing and her band is too.
I do wanna add that Kelly Clarkson was also an American idol winner while Chappel just rose to stardom on her own!
@@abbycollinsgood point. I think Gaga is a closer match from a rise standpoint.
Wanna point out that Chappelle has been making music since atleast 2017 and this wasn't an over night thing as all.
Where is the other song?
the audience singing part just give me goosebumps. Chappell Roan don’t need us but we need her🥲🥲🥲
Do you see how much she spends on clothes and jewelry? She definitely needs you simpletons.
Exactly! I’m on a 7 hour ride car trip and I have been listening to this song on repeat the whole ride! It’s safe to say I NEED HER to make this car ride feel a bit shorter!
This really came full circle. The music video was probably my first and favorite part of her career and this feels like a culmination of her experiences and making this a powerful reprise of the song that made her career her own. Confident, powerful, unapologetic and owning it for herself. This definitely is a milestone performance.
bruh same. low-key about to shed tear
I could jhst drop a log.
this perfectly explains why i love that she chose to sing this one over one of her more popular ones. i love her so much
@@mazapandust I'll do you one better. Her most recent post has her reference her old tweet which dates back over 10 years. SNL was a goal for her. Her choice was pretty much locked in the moment she was booked for snl.
I love how she sounds just as good live as she does on record. The mark of a great singer and performer. I’m so glad the world is seeing her and appreciating her music, she’s a breath of fresh air for a music lover.
1000 times 🙌 yes!
every time I listen to the song, the "mama every saturday" line never fails to make me emotional, and this time when I can look at her live face and emotions, I even feel my eyes water a little bit and a lump forming in my throat EVEN THOUGH I'M NOT SINGING BUT MOUTHING THE LYRICS ONLY HOLY SHIET

Her stage presence is beyond, her getting the crowd singing gave me chills. So cool to see this persons talent.
Never heard of her before this, wow!!
It’s good she didn’t become famous until after many years of trying, because it takes time and practice to get good
Instant chills when she says “SING IT!” And the chorus comes in. 😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️. She’s a star!🌟

Know why SO Many people like her music? Because its not over-produced pop tracks that hide that the artist isn't a great vocalist. SHE was brilliant with this song- a heartfelt song she wrote that just lands perfectly with us on different levels. And her vocals, her talent-Charisma. Gogirl🎉
Too bad she’s not super likable as a person
@@rb95081that's because you're an anti-intellectualist. You don't have nuanced takes and get mad when other people do
@@rb95081 Valid Opinion 👍
@@rb95081 not super likable bc she asked ppl for privacy be so fr rn
@@rb95081 I really don't get what this means. As far as her personality goes, she's got a stage persona that is fiery, unapologetic and encouraging to her audience. Outside of that, she seems like... you regular ass Midwest girl with an endearingly corny sense of humor. None of this speaks as anything bad. If you are expecting some PC pop star with an always friendly demeanor, that you can Stan, that's a you problem. If there is one takeaway from this, it is that what you see is pretty much what you get. You don't have to like her. But objectively, nothing about what she represents is objectively abhorrent.
I'm an old and I'd heard of her but never heard her music before. She's excellent. Great song, great voice, great band, great song.
Good luck babe is m y favorite song of hers if you want to check out some more of her music.
The fact that this is the song that got her booted from her original label and has become one of her most iconic songs, being performed on SNL, with audience interaction LOUDER than most have ever heard before. Chappell is an undeniable Star and this is her moment! 💜💜💜
damn thats crazy
Atlantic records suck!
She got booted because of Covid not this song Atlantic had to drop any artist who weren’t making them money a lot of artist got dropped during Covid it was a bad time for a lot of people
@@amorelockster1023 - Yes, this is true. Despite the details of the money making. It has been said in multiple interviews that her label didn’t agree with the song choice as a single release. And if COVID was the only issue they could’ve struck up a new deal as things eased up and opened up, so COVID can’t solely be to blame, at the end of the day. But I think it’s great they didn’t because she’s done so much better as an independent artist under Dan Nigro’s label and support, getting to create what she wants to create without question. So it all worked out in the end either way, right?
I have been watching snl performances forever and have never seen an artist do an effective call and response to the crowd during an snl performance. She’s the real deal ❤❤
This exactly makes me feel that part wasn’t live.
@@ChrisEchoesdude, did you SEE the crowd she pulled at ACL? Also, most of the audience members were Chappell fans (& if you don't believe me, check the livestream of the monologue last night- when they say "Chappell Roan," you literally see the audience cheer)

Charisma, Uniqueness, Nerve, & Talent (C.U.N.T.) 😌💅
Lol because you’re paparazzi and she’s not your puppet
Her political takes have been a little cringe… her reluctance to vote Harris is pretty ironic given the episode of SNL she’s on.
@@hithere1528 she's completely right. you can simultaneously vote for a candidate while also criticizing some of their beliefs.
@@hithere1528*iconic, not ironic.
Her political takes are consistent with every human being who has any understanding of our political system and any amount of empathy for oppressed people. If you're happy about your vote in this election, you need to take another look at the world around you.
This song is even more important than ever. We must keep on dancing no matter who is in power.

I’ve never been so proud of someone I’ve never met before. She’s worked hard for this and deserves all the love in return. I’m so happy for her. Watching her go from tiny venues to having the entire audience of SNL screaming the lyrics to Pink Pony Club louder than I’ve ever heard an SNL audience sing has been incredible. Love you so much Chappell!💖

she truly crushed both performances. she’s always a phenomenal live performer but i feel like snl also is usually pretty notorious for being difficult to nail but she did!
This performance will go down in history. I love how much of a connection she makes with her audience and involves them. It sets her apart from the rest
Every Chappell performance makes me cry. Her artistry and love for what she does is infectious. I'm so grateful for her to have such a large platform to encourage and inspire young people to be and express who they are.

The story behind the song and her journey is the lore that makes her iconic
🤣🤣🤣🤣
The song is about a club where mass drugging and sexual aaaults occur but let's romanticize it
@@SematerySyren no it’s not. 😂 It’s literally an allegory for coming out. Don’t just make shit up or believe everything you read by troll comments. 🥴
Just because Chappel says she was inspired after visiting The Abbey (her first experience at a queer club) doesn’t mean she wrote it ABOUT the place. She has explained the meaning behind it and it literally has nothing to do with the club itself.
@@SematerySyren also, let’s not act like there is a single bar/club in literal existence that doesn’t have people experiencing being drugged & assaulted. Straight/queer, big town/small town, it happens everywhere and it’s gross of you to say she is romanticizing abuse.
@@xoxolovechristielynn 😁 you are awesome 👏
She carries so much woman power. The way that she has gained her fans has been different from what we usually see….but i think that’s amazing because she’s proving that she has already been recognized as an artist by the fans before most media even knew about her. And that gives this result …this performance where an audience already knew her songs. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I've just discovered this artist, and I'm pleasantly surprised. The song is very catchy and unique.
I know that she's doing a kind of "Bride of Frankenstein" drag, but her hair, to me, also looks like a tribute to the great female rock pioneer Bonnie Raitt! What a fantastic performance all the way!

Feels like she closed the chapter on RAFOAMP and opened a new one tonight and I am thrilled!
Chappell has such raw talent that even you can feel through the screen. I get goosebumps every time I hear her sing. Pink Pony Club was the perfect song to play on SNL, introducing herself to a whole new range of viewers who even might need to go to the Pink Pony Club themselves iykwim ;)
I just LOVE when a young artist that’s come up quickly, and gotten some backlash because maybe their curated stage image is over the top for some and it’s overshadowing the fact that she’s a REAL talent, hits this major performance milestone and just SLAYS!!! This, to me, was a perfect performance in the tone she chose, the staging, costuming, brilliant vocals… just outstanding!!
I see so many people say she doesn't need all of the extra stuff. Like, you're right she doesn't. But it just takes it that much better!
To have the audience sing with that much conviction has to be such a wonderful experience and I love that for her
