  • Sarah Richardson and the Design inc Team are back to transform this vintage kitchen into a gourmet dream. Tim recently bought his first property and he’s desperate to modernise the kitchen. He wants an open entertainment space, plenty of storage room, and he wants it done as cheaply as possible. Tim’s getting married in a few months so needs to keep this renovation as cost effective as possible. Can Sarah and The Design Inc team help transform Tims Kitchen into a modern dream?

I remember seeing this episode ONCE in spring 2011 on HGTV US!!! I have literally wanted to watch it HUNDREDS of times since. It is everything I remember in terms of Tim being the most adorable and polite homeowner ever! I also LOVE Kate on this one! She had great energy and patience along with good collaboration with Sarah.
So, to save why not go with IKEA cabinetry over Altima Kitchens? Stainless steel or slate instead of Marble for counters? A different kind of big box store flooring instead of custom showroom stone??? Maybe this is me watching way too many FABULOUS Sarah 101 kitchens and even some Design Inc Kitchens where the budget cut into her material choices and were anything but basic or mundane when she customized the look.

Now that I know this is likely Kate's kitchen too I look back at she and Sarah's interactions and I wonder why Kate's opinion wasn't the driving force VS Sarah's. Sarah really is a cut above designer wise in her own office anyway. Interesting. Great kitchen but I am still not so sure the dinning room will meet the needs. Seems smallish.

This is a nice reno with elegant, muted colors. I'd rather see more of the kitchen & skip some b-roll of dog chewing up stuff, lady vacuuming or setting the table & Tim carrying various building materials. Show more close ups of materials used & provide a slower pan of the rooms from different angles. At the end compare the before & after to notice the dramatic improvement. Opening up walls in this 80 yo home gave it modern appeal but blended well with the original vintage character.

Nice Reno and I expected a bit more masculine look for window treatments and he said he wanted to keep the formal dining room …but I thought that meant being able to seat more people at a table vs formal decor. Use of a well made tabletop extender might be an option for him if he needs more table seating.

It´s a nice kitchen, but how is this "on a budget?" The budget went out the window early on. A friendly loan manager, a stressed out client and dog, calacatta marble and 3 months of take-out do not a budget make! Change the title!

Beyond a doubt, Sarah Richardson is the single most over-rated designer on the planet. At best, she is a decorator who has never created anything that can be considered unique, and her manipulation of form and pattern is mundane and stodgy.
