Hardest thing I’ve been through: One night when I was 11 I randomly felt homesick while I was visiting my dad and something between both of my parents must’ve hit a breaking point because they both separately talked about my life and a bunch of random stuff that wasn’t even important. My dad took me home and told me to wait in the car. And both of my parents just unloaded on each other I could hear and see everything through the windshield and I just sat in the passengers seat and cried as they fought like I’ve never seen them fight before. It’s my least favorite memory and that incident still has some lasting effects on me regarding both of my parents.

Well that is a huge problem with our world & society as a whole. There is way too many people that think "Because they do not like something" or because "Something rubs them the wrong way" that they should be able to get what they want. I see it all over on youtube in various ways. One example out of MANY that i can come up with is when someone is doing something completely legal and within their right BY LAW - Then a Karen or Man Karen comes by flipping out because they don't like it, or they don't think it should be okay or that its not legal WHEN IT TRULY IS. Then the karen/man karen starts bugging out about it.
What comes to mind is my favorite quote ever - " My rights DO NOT END were YOUR FEELINGS start"
If someone has a legal right to do something, then people should STFU and deal with it. But they don't. The problem lies with society, people thinking they should be able to get whatever they want.

The jack/john story reminds me of one of my ex coworkers, he was new and he'd always ask me questions like "how was you weekend" or "what's happening after work" and then when I'd answer, he would berate me for not speaking load enough "SPEAK UP!! I CAN'T F***ING HEAR YOU!!". No one else had this problem with me, everyone else could hear me fine. Also, he didn't have a problem hearing anyone else, even someone I have trouble hearing, and he has complained on multiple occasions that my whistling (I'm very talented) is too loud and really hurts his ears.
So instead of answering him anymore, I chose to completely ignore him. (There were multiple reasons for this, he went around and said that I told him I did meth and stuff like that) he hated this. He'd complain to other workers and the managers that I wasn't listening to him and he also claimed it had caused him to hurt his back.
He once made a comment about my intelligence, where I made the dumb mistake of retorting then He followed me to the back of our work shouting "WHAT THE F****S YOUR PROBLEM TOM!? WHAT THE F****S YOUR PROBLEM?!"
this ended in a harry potter moment:
Him "you think you're so tough staring at me?
Me "I don't have to think it mate"
He then went to the managers and accused me of doing all the things he's been doing to me, to him instead. and demanded I be fired immediately, saying he'll get his lawyer and his union involved, that I'm on drugs, and all that stuff.
Luckily my coworkers got behind me and wrote statements contradicting everything he's been doing and saying. I don't know what happened to him, but I still have my job and he's gone.
I still don't know what his problem was, why he was such an ass, and why I was the target. But its over now.

Regarding the Story 4, the Baby named Karen:
He is not the Jerk, quite the opposite. Everyone else is the Jerk for allowing damage to a baby being done by calling the name lovely. He was the only good person in the room, for he stood up and risked being at the receiving end of hostility to help that baby. That is one of the things that for me make the difference between an acquaintance or buddy and a close friend. A true friend is someone who is willing to get into a heated argument with you to protect you from making a big mistake. A true friend values protecting your well being over not ruining the mood.

The narrator said the Karen thing probably won't stick around a long time. That's what I thought when I was pregnant and struggling to find a name my husband and I agreed on. Lol "oooh, it's just an intent fad. It'll blow over in a couple years, DEFINITELY before she's in school..."
I now have a 6 year old who decided she wants to go by her middle name... As far as I know it's just because she likes it (I think it sounds more like a princess name, that's probably why) but it still makes me feel guilty in case she overheard a lot of Karen stuff or something. As far as I know she's never been teased for it, but I still feel bad because who knows...

The girls day story? Or the stolen car? I'm just asking for clarification because that time stamp is at the very end of the car... If it's the girls day shit then, yeah, definitely good for him. I've been excluded from my family events regularly as well. In my case they used the fact that I had children as the reasoning. I want even allowed to get a babysitter in order to attend the events and it was extra painful because, while I was being explicitly excluded, my best friend at the time was being included. These days, my ex friend lives with my mother and I've been told I have no choice but to accept that she's an important part of my moms life and I'm meant to just get over any hurt feelings but also I'm not welcome at her home because she bought the one breed of dog I'm terrified of since I was mauled by one when I was 4 and she doesn't want to have to worry about me feeling uncomfortable or something so I should just send my children out of state to visit with her. I don't feel particularly inclined to do so

It's literally programmed into us. Conversations don't change hormones nor does it change the fact that her main social interaction is a baby. In my opinion, the one that wanted the same gift as the stepbrother is Not A Jerk. The parents should treat the kids equally. I know from experience how hurtful it is to be treated differently like that. When my brother in law got remarried, all three of his wife's kids got a car for their 16th birthday. When my niece (my BIL daughter) turn 16, she got nothing. They were suppose to go on a trip out of state for her, but then the wife decided she wanted to go somewhere else that she liked. She hated that the trip was for my niece, so she decided they would go somewhere else where it would be about her (she likes everything to be focused on her 🙄). Anyways, a few months ago, my niece was able to get a car that she is currently working and paying for herself. We can write a book on all the things this woman does lol

The only jerk there is that nephew who thought it was okay to smash a brand new console which was for baby’s* and then cry about not having one for himself now. He sounds pretty baby to me. If i was that dad i would say to the sister: fine, leave and never come back, it would be a huge relief because i would not have to pay you anymore. She would then maybe realise what the dad does for her and give him a chance of telling his side of the story.

I know so many girls that felt like they lost their fathers when they started developing, people have so sexualized women that they can't keep these vital relationships. What a great dad who can love his daughter and keep that relationship. Her own mother and grandparents have already created a label.

I have an entire school's worth of friends/familiars that I have to be around that are immature, and I'm not kidding, being associated with people that do this. Having to explain to student teachers and subs that my classmates do this is the worst, as I basically have to say "Hey, FYI, my classmates are a bunch of hellspawn/gremlin who do X and Y, and sometimes Z or W" just so they even semi-understand. Hardest thing I went through until now:
My grandma was diagnosed with pancreas cancer a week before her birthday in 2017.
The only reason she told me, was because my cousin was with her when she called me, to ask if I would be coming for her birthday.
She hadn't planned on telling me, but my cousin called out from the background, that she should tell me.
Two years later, I was planning to visit her on her birthday two months later, when I get a call from my mother, telling me that her doctor just left and told them she wouldn't make it longer than 48 hours max.
(I live quite a bit away, so one way with car, I have to drive about 5 hours, nothing I can do whenever I want to, bc money is tight and I don't own a car, one of my partners does.)
We decided to get up early the next day, because I was in no way able to drive there myself, and drive there, so I can at least say my goodbyes.
I have to explain, maybe, that my maternal grandparents have taken me in when I was 12, bc my relationship with my mother and her second husband was highly toxic (for me, not my mother, at least not at that time). I lived with them until I was 20/21, so you can imagine that both of them played very important roles in my life, especially during puberty. What I know of values and healthy relationships, I know from them. It's safe to say I see them as my parents, more than my actual parents.
When we got to my Grans home, I was already informed she was unresponsive, bc of the Morphines she'd been given, but she was still alive...
I almost fell to my knees beside her bed, grabbing her hand and telling her that it was okay, that I was there now and she could let go, that she can go and be with my Gramps (who had died in 2012 bc of colon cancer) and that she should give him a hug and a kiss from me.
She died about five minutes later, while I still held her hand.
I bet you think that that was the hardest thing I've been through until now.
But it was actually only about a week ago, when I suddenly realized, that I have practically lost my parents when my Gramps and, later, my Gran died.
I don't think I've ever heard myself howl like I did then.
When it finally hit me, that I lost my parents, way too late, so now all those wounds are ripped open again.
But this time, I can at least grieve them like I should have done back then...

The hardest thing I’ve ever been through is my parents divorce and right after that we had to move since our house was still being built we had to stay at my dads parents house where of course my grandparents blamed the divorce on my mom and it was very toxic we were always told by them to go with our dad instead of being with our mom and through all of this my mom was the bread winner of the family so to afford the new house she was working around 12 hours every day and by the time we finally had the house built my dad was leasing out the old house so he could make extra money so he was living in the basement (he is still doing this and since he got kicked out of the basement he is now living in a trailer, but as of recently he is now back in his house since he got a summer job(he’s a teacher /camera man at a school )) his new summer job is at our home town triple a baseball team stadium he’s gotten very far up on the latter and it has realy fixed our relationship and now I live at my moms house and go out every day with my dad in the summer to a base ball game it really wasn’t easy though before he got that summer job we had nothing in common and me and I believe him cried many nights because we had both felt like we lost a big part of our life’s its been even harder to try to socialize with him lately because of all of his 5 month relation ships that always leave him broken but since his last relationship where he was brought to church with he has become Christian and it really gives him reassurance about the world and makes him happy ( no I’m not Christian and he dosent push it on me ) he and I are so happy now and and I love him so much (Now we’re right back to after the divorce and this is how my mom went) there isn’t really much to say she never ended up dating and she was always good to us the only thing that I want to talk about is what I did to her and I’m very ashamed of when I was in second grade I was riding back in my moms car when I said that she deserves to be in prison for leaving my dad while my dad deserves to be a king I also said that she shouldn’t take any more of my dads money( yes my grandparents had brainwashed )me my mom was the one who got left and the reason I said that she should stop taking my dads money is because he gave my mom 10 k for the house and my grandparents told me that my mom was taking my dads money to buy a house and that she was going to kick him out( which she let him stay because she was nice even if it was just the basement) and the house ended up costing700k so my dads money basically did nothing but as an 8 year old I had no concept of money so I thought my mom was just stealing my dads money after all of this my mom started crying and I was forced to apologize by my dad I did this one more time in less than a month yea I was a terrible kid but me and my mom have completely recovered and at this point and I love my parents my sisters and my dogs , grandparents not so much but I just pretend like I don’t remember what they said now my dad and my mom hangout all the time with us and are good freinds I just his 7 grade and they are very supportive

On the hardest thing to go through question, mine's the same answer as OP's, but it was my father rather than a sibling. December 10th, 2018, my dad was struggling with his severe sleep apnea and laid down for a nap at about one in the afternoon, an hour later, I'd checked on him to see how things were going for him, having him tell me he was feeling cold, so I tightened the blankets around him and told him to enjoy the rest of his nap. An hour later, my mom checked on him and things had deteriorated significantly as he wasn't responding, even to hard physical slaps. I was called in to find his heart had almost completely stopped and I started CPR at the instruction of the 911 dispatcher. At five in the evening, the local paramedic crew from the fire department called it and a team of morticians was called in for his body. A week later, we lowered Dad into the ground per the Jewish traditions he was so proud of. Even though I was twenty-eight years old and this happened nearly four years ago, seeing the fatal severing of parent/child bonds still hits me like a tank shell, breaking me down into a crying mess.

About the vegan one, she was not the jerk. People don't understand that when you go enough years without eating meat, eating even a piece of it could have serious consequences, as your stomach is not used to it anymore. Meat is one of the hardest meals to digest, and she was really lucky it didn't give her a stomach ache.
I, for example, can't eat meat because it gives me stomach acid in such a way that more than once it ended up burning the inside of my throat. Just imagine the many possibilities and outcomes that prank could have had.

In the story about the mother wanting to see her kids after being imprisoned. I grew up in a similar situation. The OP is absolutely in the right for keeping the children away from the mother. Not because she's a jerk, but because overall it's what is most likely best for the children's welfare. This is my story in a nutshell for example. My father's parents had custody of me at the request of my father. He passed away in a tragic accident when I was 3 years old. My mother was an alcoholic, an addict, and a few other things I'd rather not discuss. When I was younger, my mother had visitation rights, but she was almost never there, (usually drugs, alcohol, or other illegal activities usually were more important apparently) so I usually stayed with her family. I eventually decided at a young age that I didn't want to go on the visitations at all. It very soon became apparent that I must not have been important enough in her life to even acknowledge...
I am now 46 years old and the last time that I spoke with, gotten a phone call from, recieved a birthday card from or even seen my mother was when I was 5 years old,...41 years! I have a sister and a half-sister who were both raised by my mother, and I hardly ever seen them growing up. All 3 live less than 100 miles away, and don't ever bother to call, text, or visit. Fortunately, I work with one of my uncles, my mother's brother, and he tells me all the time, that it's for the best that they aren't in my life.
